First round started in a flash! Or perhaps a flare. The three snakes shared the same target, at least as far as Monica could tell. So focused on her own spell, she was glad that she at least got some level of hit on Julian, it was truly Guinevere's flame that sealed the deal. But when Monica looked over to see how Hui-Ming was faring, it seems that he was made the target of those Badgers, at first Monica could feel herself ease when two spells missed but he was nailed by a blast of wind, and the culprit was Julian. "You alright?" She called back to her teammate, not letting her glare break from Julian. It seemed like Hui-Ming was well enough to still fight, which was a relief to say the least.

Seems that this was some what fairly even.... Monica gathered herself, ready for another wave of casted spells.

THE ESCALATION

Image posted by the member

And so it happened. Each side decided on a target and focused them down. For the Slytherins it was Julian: captain and the most experienced duellist that Hufflepuff had on the field. For Hufflepuff, if was...him?

In a way, it was flattering, if it weren't so gosh darned annoying. Hui-Ming sidestepped one spell, dodged another; only to be pinged with a third; the unexpected force of the gale making his own spell go awry.

The Chinese boy narrowed his eyes, flicking his wand as if it were a sword and attempting to clear his head, and simply nodded when Miss Evans asked after him.

"Never better." He said primly, as if this were some elaborate teatime event. "Just a little preoccupied"

The curtains fell. And the silence was deafening

At their moderator's call for the duel to start, Guinevere didn't waste a moment in thinking. "Incendio Duo," she said loudly, casting the fire spell at one of her opponents. She remembered the Hufflepuff overseeing one of her duels last year.
Her spell struck true, which was quite a sight to see, since a Ventus cast by her teammate Monica also hit him. The duel was off to start, and both teams seemed pretty even right now, but based on the first round alone, Guinevere knew it was going to be a tough duel.

The incantation that the curly-haired boy tried to perform was the Mucus ad Nauseam to Ming, but he was rather hesitant about his luck. And so it was. He could see how he performed the spell but was not certain enough to hit the target properly. From his lips, a slight tense smile formed, a little uncomfortable. What a bad first entry!

Something momentarily distracted him and was the voice of Damion, who was always there to support him. A small smile formed and focused on Slytherin’s team, evaluating people and comparing them to those of his team. It was clear that Slytherin had a small advantage, but there was much to do. Decided, he raised the wand being ready.

Maybe Emma had overestimated her confidence or perhaps the better way to look at things was she should have been more focused on well….her focus rather than her knowledge. She went to cast the Tickling Charm and was successful, a grin having came to her lips only for it to quickly fall when the spell missed completely. Only Julian had been successful in hitting their target. Emma wanted to groan in frustration but instead decided to try to be more positive. She had vowed she would be more positive this year.

Shooting a thumbs up Julian’s way, she called out, “Good job Julian. Hades, good spell casting, next time we’ll hit the target!” Her voice sounded almost too cheery to her ears but she was also biased as she was not a fan of how her voice sounded to others. Anytime she watched herself in a video she would cringe.

Julian was on fire again. This was becoming a habit. He didn't exactly begrudge the Slytherins for having narrowed their focus to targetting just him, since the strategy mirrored his own team's, but he couldn't help but feel a smidge resentful that they'd chosen to mix wind and fire, making Julian flounder in a panic to put out the flame that had sprouted on his sleeve at the same time he fought to keep his balance. "Bloody--" he bit off the swear as he took patted his robes with his other hand, over which he'd pulled up the sleeve for protection.

"Uh... thanks," he said, in response to Emma's praise, a little too preocuppied to add the encouragement he normally would've directed at his teammates.

4th November 2023- Afternoon

This round was a doozy for the Snakes. The Badgers, it seemed, were content to focus on Hui-Ming. All three fired away simultaneously with the same spell. Flipendo. One would end up getting an impaired hit, Hui-Ming too quick to end up getting hit fully. The other two spells coming his way. Sadly not. Emmas' and Julians' spell would hit the third year Slytherin squarely in the chest, and Bea watched as he crumpled under the force of the spells.

What was even worse for the Slytherins was there own spells would not be of much use. Both Hui-Ming, with the pressure of evading the opponents spells, and Monica would fail. Well only one of Hui-Mings, and only in the sense if you counted missing a target a fail. His spell would would cast and that magical ability to split spells would come in handy. One target would be hit with a strong gust of wind, Hades the fifth year Bea didn't know much about. Emma, her fellow prefect would be able to evade once again. Guinevere would be luckier. But that was where said luck would end. The spell would sail right past its intended, the girls own flipendo hitting the wall beyond.

As the magic settled, Bea called time, allowing poor Hui-Ming to be carried from the piste for healing. Once she was sure that everything was good to go again, she signalled for the duellists to begin.

Hufflepuff VS Slytherin

The plan he had had with his teammates had been quite successful although he was not lucky enough to make his spell strike his target. But at least they had managed to get one of the dueling rivals to end up completely gone.

At least now the Hufflepuff had a pretty good lead...

Before Ming ended up completely gone, he was able to manage to get Hades hit, something he didn’t like very much. He grunted violently and pulled himself together, ready for the next round. You could see on his face that he was a little upset. But not as much as it might seem. Because Hades was seeing that they were clearly at an advantage for the moment.

Before he returned to focus and went into duel mode, he stared curiously at how Ming was being retired. He shrugged, turning his attention back to the remaining rivals. He bit his lower lip thoughtfully, with the wand ready and his mind running full.

Before she could react, three identical spells flew to their side of the piste, two of them hitting Hui-Ming and one of them being an impaired hit, resulting in knocking the boy out. The duel was paused to send him to the Hospital Wing, and Guinevere's side eye never left the opposing team.
"We got this," she briefly said to Monica. It was just a mental game. If they kept their focus, it would all work out.
