2023/24, Stage 1 Hufflepuff vs Slytherin: Match 6

Sorry for the mix up folks! I am currently typing this moderation on my phone in a hotel room and mixed up two different Hufflepuff teams. It should all be fixed now! Any questions or concerns owl or dm me on discord.

A new year, and a new duel to be in. You could say that in a way, Hades was excited to continue with the duels, but worried that at some point he would have to face his boyfriend Damion. But he had to keep his head clear. He walked gracefully to the set place and looked at his rivals, furrowing his eyebrows. He had adopted a more indifferent and mature attitude.

He observed that in his team was one of the boys who had fought with him in the previous year, he greeted him with a slight bow of the head. Following the indications of the referee, he positioned himself in the indicated place and was waiting, showing indifference until the time came to start the fun. Hades needed to make amends for last year.

Emma was ready. Another year older, another year smarter, and she had more spells under her belt now. Admittedly the final duel of the year last year had not gone well but the other matches had gone their way so she and her teammate must have done something right. This year was going to be a bit different with three teammates instead of two but it would be another learning experience. She felt at least a bit more confident, especially seeing as she was paired with a fourth and fifth year. Plus she had a year of duelling under her belt.

She also felt determined especially for this match since she had been defeated by two of the Gryffindor duellists last year in the final match. Emma felt like she needed to prove herself against the other house. And maybe no one else cared, but she still did.

Taking a deep breath, she nodded at Bea, a fellow prefect before stepping onto the piste, gripping her wand tightly as she waited for the match to begin.

Deep breath.

The sounds of feet shuffling along the spectating benches. Chatter filling the chamber as more students filed in.

Don't forget to exhale.

Twirling her wand in her hand, noticing the weight of it. The smooth surface of the wood, the power flowing within it.

Monica entered the piste with her team, she was poised and focused. The first match of the year. Another chance to bring victory to the Slytherin House. Her heart was steady, barely a jump or skip, she was relaxed. Of course there was the hint of nerves, but this moment, the seconds before the duel began, Monica found a sense of peace, more so than she had ever found outside of the duelling ring. It was like the calm before the storm. The soft tranquil ocean before producing a crushing wave.

She smiled at her friend Bea, who was the moderator for this match. Being so close Monica had a sense that Bea might be a little nervous, so Monica looked in her direction, giving her a smile and a thumbs up, she would do amazing!

The time had come for the match to begin, Monica glared across the piste to the opposing team, the badgers. Alright.... time to make some waves. She smirked as she readied to throw spells.

And just like that, the duelling season was starting again, and just like that the bespectacled Slytherin was in the midst of it.

Oddly, he felt nothing but a sense of detached curiosity.

Perhaps because this time, he was not a captain or a newcomer, with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Rather, he was just another duellist, here to wreak havoc upon the pitiful weaklings show off what he had learnt in and out of class over the course of his time at this school.

His opponents were familiar to him, having faced all three and beaten two of the three in previous duels. Of course, he was selling in a larger context this time, with more people. But Hui-Ming was older, more skilled, and perhaps a bit more mature than last year.

A raised eyebrow, a tilt of his neck.

And, it was finally time to begin.

After a long summer, Guinevere was back on the duelling piste for stage 1. She had already been in multiple duels before, but had never duelled anyone above her year, and had been quite nervous when the matchups for stage 1 were revealed. This would be interesting duel to take part in, she was sure. She took a deep breath and cracked her back.
Rule 1; don't get hit. Rule 2; hit the opposition. That was the game. The Slytherin would do her best to follow through.

It seemed both teams were out for blood. Or well the closest they could get. Severe, intricate damage. And what better way then a fire tornado. It was rumoured that the Puffs had a thing with fire, and it seemed now was a good time as any for the Slytherins to try and prove it. Unfortunately, it wouldn't fully come to fruition. Hui-Ming would miss both of his targets, whilst Monica would get a glancing blow on Julian. Guinevere would be the only one of the three to actually fully hit her target, flames engulfing poor Julian who had been targeted by all three snakes.

It would be a similar story for the badgers. Only one of their trio would actually hit a target. At least their snot stream, Bea winced, would miss. Gross. Just thinking about it made her shudder. Hades and Emma would both miss, but a steady jolt of wind would hit Hui-Ming squarely in the chest. No impaired hits there. Bea surveyed both teams with a slight upwards tilt of her lips. This was going to be a fun match. Nodding to each team, she signalled for them to continue on.
