2023/24 Stage 1 Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 8

Okay, so, she was expecting a great start but unfortunately, luck isn't exactly on their side this round.

As soon as the duel started, spells went flying from each of the duellists' wand, aiming at their respective opponents. A fire-making spell from Lily and a knockback jinx from Estelle. However, none of those spells reached their mark, both of them missing their intended target. To make things worse, both were hit by the spells of their opponents.

It wasn't all too bad I guess, for Raizel's disarming charm had at least hit Axyen, his wand being sent flying into who knows where. That should give them 1 less person to worry about for a while. Too bad that she too was hit by a spell and was left petrified.

So this is what being hit by that spell feels like, she thought and immediately realizes that this isn't exactly the right time to be thinking about that. What to do, what to do. They are in a pickle at the moment but it's still too early to give up right? This is just the beginning after all.

Estelle felt her heart begin to beat faster in her chest. The duel had begun. Spells were shot in all directions, mostly hitting her team. Someone shot a beam of light towards her. She tried to dodge, to evade the spell but it hit her with full force. She doubled over, laughing, as some unknown force tickled her stomach. She tried to focus on a spell but it was so difficult - her eyes were filled with tears from crying. She hoped the spell would wear off soon - she felt helpless.

Where the Gryffindors seemed to be overrun in the first few seconds, they caught up in no time (even if it wasn't all their own doing). In fact, maybe it was more that the Hufflepuffs got too excited? Lily didn't attack, maybe processing the shock of being hit by the tickling charm- Opeila couldn't blame her, that was indeed a vicious one. Raizel was trapped still, petrified on the ground. If one looked closely, one could see the struggle in the young Gryffindor's eyes, but Axyen's spell had been strong- there was no getting out.

And Axyen wouldn't be held back by the temporary loss of his wand for long. The Hufflepuff would find it in a matter of seconds only a few meters away and get it back.
EmmaLee however seemed to have been abandoned by luck. First Estelle managed to hit her with a well aimed Flipendo and then her own spell casting did not go that well either... Having a few more years of duelling and spell casting on her back, Opeila noticed something was wrong before the girl even finished casting- What was that extra flourish of the wand and... didn't she emphasize the wrong syllable there?- and only flinched a little when the spell backfired, making the young girl's legs spasm wildly.

Alyssea's attempt at revenge on Estelle also went semi-well. Better than EmmaLee's spell for sure, but her spell only clipped the Gryffindor. It would likely slow the girl down, but she was clearly less affected than EmmaLee.

This round didn't go quite as Alyssea hoped. Of course, she remembered to count her blessings as Raizel remained petrified on the floor, Axyen got a chance to retrieve his wand without being bombarded with spells, and Lily stood with a blank stare. Was she okay?

Seeing EmmaLee take quite a hit with her own spell failing and Estelle's Flipendo making its mark, Alyssea winced. At least she was still in the game; being down a player was not exactly the best situation to be in.

What is she doing? No really, what is she doing?

Raizel shouldn't be here on the ground, lying around and doing nothing. She should be helping out her teammates, casting spells yet all she could is to struggle and try to break free out of this petrification. Her efforts were in vain, the spell was too strong for her and she isn't even that strong to begin with. Still, she needed to try. She couldn't just wait until the effect wears off.

Damn it!

Was all she could think of as she watched helplessly at what was going on, getting a bit impatient. Her teammates seems to be doing fine for now with Estelle successfully hitting EmmaLee with her Flipendo this time and the Hufflepuff's spell had backfired too. This was a good opportunity for a comeback yet she couldn't even help out. Looks like Lily was still in some sort of shock after getting hit by a spell and was just standing there. That is not good at all.

Well, things can't always go your way in duels but at least that helped in closing the distance between their team and their opponents.

Axyen was absolutely terrified without his wand, that meant he missed out on all of the action as he looked around trying to figure out where his wand could've possibly went. That was another thing Axyen wondered, how on earth people lost their wands, and now Axyen knew. Thankfully Axyen didn't have to worry about evading any spells as nobody seemed to be targeting Axyen. This gave Axyen the opportunity to find his wand and pick it up, which Axyen did as quickly as he could. Axyen looked up in time to see his teammate EmmaLee attempt to dodge a spell cast by Estelle, EmmaLee tried to fire back but it ended up backfiring. Axyen flinched, that didn't look like it was fun, which told Axyen to focus up.

Axyen was scared, and it felt impossible to tell what was happening, Axyen continued to focus, his communication completely failing him. Well only up until Axyen needed to say the name of a spell, which for some reason he could then speak. Axyen knew that this duel would be no cakewalk, or maybe it would be, but Axyen couldn't complain, he couldn't drop out. This was for Hufflepuff, and Axyen wanted to try and win for as long as he could stand. Axyen prepared himself, a mixture of determination, nervousness, and perhaps even fear in his eyes as he prepared his next move.

Axyen was nervous and he could only hope his teammates could find a way to pull through and turn this duel right around. From what Axyen could see, it looked like this duel would be in a pattern, Hufflepuff is doing terrible, then Gryffindor is doing terrible and repeat. That could be changed by the unpredictable and fast-paced nature of dueling though, so it was impossible to tell. Axyen would have to keep trying to do his best for his teammates to win this match.

Axyen felt worries and concerns appear again, and at the worst time possible, Axyen remembered there was a bunch of Hogwarts students watching the duel. Focus, focus! I need to not mess this up, I cannot risk messing up and taking damage, I must help win this duel! Axyen told himself, and then he played those same thoughts on loop. Axyen liked to imagine that the repetitiveness of those repeating words would provide comfort and help Axyen not mess up, but only time could tell.

Axyen look at the other team, Raizel was still on the ground, struck down from Axyen's Petrificus Totalus. Axyen noticed that Estelle and Lily were both under the effect of some spell, but Axyen didn't have time to figure out what exactly hit them as seconds ticked by, time didn't allow Axyen to have much more time to study the duel to come up with what to do next.

Opeila's respect for the Hufflepuff team only grew when she watched another one of them use a spell that was advanced to them. The Slytherin hadn't known the Healing Spell before her third year and it certainly came in handy for the Hufflepuffs now, EmmaLee immediately looked a bit better.
Raizel finally managed to break free from her petrification- which could be a nice little break at times- and re-entered the duel, just in time to replace the one that dropped.

Estelle seemed a little overwhelmed all of a sudden. The young girl didn't cast spells anymore, but instead stood quite still, a perfect target for two Flipendo's that knocked her clean out. "Stop! Pause the duel!", Opeila would call, maybe a second or two late, as she remembered her job. They would wait for the unconscious girl to be carried off the stage before she gave permission to continue.

Lily however seemed to have caught herself again and cast an Incendio that set Alyssea's clothes on fire.
