It was that ever-so-exciting time of year when the official dueling season began at Hogwarts. With students settled in to the new semester, and classes in full swing there needed to be an outlet for all that new knowledge to escape. And this was the perfect place. Battles of wit and wonder - strategy and strength (the magical kind) - dominate the dueling club this weekend. Despite the fact that it was the second day of the new season, the energy today matched, if not topped, yesterday's.

The club was rife with activity. The stands that had been setup besides the pistes were quickly filling up with students ready to cheer on their friends, housemates or classmates. Chatter and wishes of 'good luck' mixed with fierce discussion about yesterdays matches. Mediwizards could be seen making last minute checks at their aid stations or taking their places piste-side. Duelists would also be making their way to their places, as the moderators began calling out their matches. Anywhere your eyes fell in the room you’d a find someone doing something.

Any confusion of the timetables or team rosters could quickly be cleared up by a glance at the leader-board that had been setup by the entrance. There was also a snacks and refreshments table that had been setup besides the board. Students curious about the sport and how to join would find recruitment pamphlets for each team on said table.

No matter who you were here to support, or what match you meant to watch, it would be hard not to get caught up in the energy of the club. Everyone was excited to find out who would take the lead as the first stage of this year's dueling season came to a close.

─────Landon was a little nervous. He had never taken the time to go observe a duel before, but he really wanted to be there to support his friend, Alyssea. He was scared that people would get hurt, but he still wanted to be there. Landon didn't like violence so much, but this was magic and there wasn't really any physical contact with the dueling students. He hoped that Alyssea would be safe either way.

Landon walked to the dueling area and looked around with wide eyes. There were definite teams standing around and preparing to duel and Landon was a little surprised at the fact that they would be dueling all at the same time. He soon found the area near where Alyssea was and waved at her. He didn't want to interrupt or break her concentration while she prepared for her duel.

Landon found a spot in the stands and sat down. He started to watch the matches as they began, focused on Match 8 because Alyssea was a part of it. He didn't fully know what was going on, but it looked like she was doing quite well! Landon was a bit overwhelmed by all the action, but he had a smile on his face as he felt like it looked like Alyssea's team was winning. He cheered them on, not too loudly because he was not a loud sort of person, but he wanted to make sure they knew that someone was cheering for them.

Despite the demands of her Quidditch practice, Daphne had purposefully carved out time in her busy day to fulfill a promise she had made to her friend, Axyen. She made her way to the morning duel, a contagious grin lighting up her face as she approached the area where Axyen was set to duel.

"Go Axyen!" Daphne's voice carried a wave of encouragement as she cheered, eager to show unwavering support for Axyen, especially since this was his first duel. Her dedication to cheering on her fellow Hufflepuff was tangible as she retrieved a vibrant banner she had prepared for the occasion. With the bold words 'Go Axyen Dragonclaw' proudly displayed in Hufflepuff colors, it added a burst of color to the scene while she jumped up a few times.

As Axyen dueled, Daphne lifted the banner high, beaming happily as she rallied the Hufflepuff spirit. "Go Hufflepuffs!" she declared, her voice echoing with pride for her house and the friend she was cheering on. Ever mindful not to distract Axyen, she maintained a supportive silence, her eyes unwaveringly focused on him, the banner waving gently in the air. Even if Hufflepuff didn't win, she was happy regardless that Axyen was playing now.

Watching Match 8, Cheering on the Lions!

"WOOOOOOOOOOO!!" Colin and Liam cheered as the lower years Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff match got underway. Colin's own house mate, Opeila Winters, was serving as umpire to oversee the little ones as they hurled spells at each other. Mostly, though, the twins were here to cheer on their little sister Lily as she fought in her first duel of the season. And the action did not disappoint!

The first volley of spells --- three on three, Colin noted --- were flung, and Lily's was fiery! "Set em on fire, Lils!" shouted Liam. "I smell fried badger for lunch!" called Colin. "AAGGHHHH!!!" the both moaned in unison as the volley went to Hufflepuff! "Rotten luck Lils!" The badger girl that Colin knew as Aly was just able to duck Lily's indendio! "Brilliant cast sis!" Estelle's spell missed too, and only Rai was able to smack down her badger oppo with a well timed disarm! "Nice one Rai!" Colin called out.

"Oh, lad! First volley is solidly Hufflepuff," Liam said to Colin, shaking his head.

"That's rough, innit," Colin said in reply. Unhappily, Rai was petrified! "That put the Gryffs down three to two! --- Oh wait! That badger's wandless!"

"A wandless wizard is no wizard at all, right Cail?" said Liam with a wicked smile.

"Aye! We're even again!"

The twins moaned again as the second volley turned into an utter fiasco! For some reason Lily just stood there on the piste! "LILY!! WAKE UP AND POINT YER WAND AT SOMEONE!!" Colin shouted. Fortunately for her, the girl that shot the dancing feet hex had it backfire!

And as fast as Gryff seemed to be down, the young lions shot up again! Lily flung fire at her badger oppo! "That's what I'm talking about Lils! Light them all on fire! OWOOOOOOOOO!!" the two boys howled at Lily together! And just as Rai broke free from being petrified, poor Estelle got double whacked and dropped unconscious to the piste! "Drat. Deffo three on two now!" Liam said.

Whoa. This was intense! Opeila stopped the duel until the dead girl could be dragged off. Colin wondered if Lily and Rai would be able to withstand the punishment from the Hufflepuff team!

Frickle frackle snip snap aw crap dangit I'm so stupid how could I be so late? Astra practically ran from the Great Hall to the Dueling Club, leaping up the steps like a very short and somewhat clumsy baby deer, bumping into someone on her way inside. "Sorry!" she called over her shoulder, narrowly missing yet another person. She caught sight of the schedule, noticing Axyen's duel had been earlier that morning. Double drat! She would have to congratulate him later.

Based on the time, Astra reckoned they were probably about halfway done with the duel, as her only standard for duel length was one vs one duels. She was still shocked she had won that with only two offensive spells in her mind. She wondered how she would fare now.

She recognized Zach down on the Piste. Hadn't realized he was a duelist as well as everything else. He must be so busy! No one else on team Birdbrain was familiar to her, nor was the Puff moderator. She did recognize Leveret.

He's a real duellist? Oh God help us. His performance in the dungeons had been less than inspiring, that's certain. Lo, he was already aflame- oh, wait, Mahlioz had just put out the dratted fire. "Go Mahl!" she whispered as she sat, proud of her friend's smart decision. Leveret dodged the spell Zach threw, while the third viper hit the Ravenclaw with a blast of wind. And another bird's spell backfired on her. To Astra, it looked like the snakes were in the lead.

Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive today
