The result from his spell wasn't as great as he expected, but it was better than nothing. The reason he couldn't do the targeting well was he suddenly felt nervous. Zach took a deep breath as he saw other duelists. He was relieved there was no spell hit his team, especially himself since he hated pain, really hated it.

Zach turned his head to Bea and nodded at her. He kept reminding himself to do the best as he could. Hope he will see some fun.

	----- “Ventus!” he called. The twist of his wand unleashed a blast of wind that he had hoped would sweep the opposing trio off their feet, but immediately he knew something was wrong. Once again, the wand that had betrayed him oh-so-many times had struck again; determined to mar his reputation and ruin his dreams of exceeding; keeping the thrill of having power over others just out of reach. He was in a world of trouble, and everything was happening so fast.

Mahlioz hadn't even had time to cast a spell before all three members of the other team sent spells at her. Or rather, tried. One of them couldn't manage to get their spell to leave their wand (or at least, it looked that way), and another's was easily dodged. But before Mahlioz could even stop to take a breath, one of her own teammates turned their wand towards her.

Okay, so this was Mahlioz's first duel, but she was pretty positive that turning on your teammates wasn't exactly a great idea. Confused, she managed to dodge Pea's attack, only to get hit by the fourth person attacking her's flipendo. Everything was happening so quickly, who could blame her? She was even slightly proud for being able to dodge so many spells in such little time. Still... "What was that for?" she asked Pea, not too judgmental but still a little confused.

She tried to send an obscuro at one of the other team's members - a certain Beatrice Langstreth, if she remembered correctly - but they dodged it somehow even better than Mahlioz had been able to dodge their incendio. Things weren't looking too great... but at least they weren't looking awful, either. They still had a chance, right?

Nightmare. Nightmare. She really begins to wonder whether her wand rather hates her or her other teammates. Or perhaps it just doesn't like the presence of other people, much like herself. Her Expelliarmus just went off with a stride unto her new teammate Evethisawe, who appears to handle it quite well. She dodged her misfire. Did not know whether she should be pleased or pissed at the fact that even the newbie could evade her oncoming attack. "Oops~" She said lazily as if she didn't really care. Although, soon after a spell fired at Evethisawe from the other side, and this time she wasn't as lucky. But Pea didn't have time to react to her teammates as something blazing blasted past the white-haired, almost grazing her pale skin. A tiny sigh of relief filled her chest. It would be absolutely exasperating if that spell would hit her, especially not on her perfectly new robe.

Despite failing her spell, Samantha was still confident. It was just the start of the duel. She didn't even try that hard. As the young girl was making up excuses for her own failure, she noticed that Bea's spells had missed. It must have been something in the air caused both of them to fail. It didn't have anything to do with her, no way. The other team wasn't as lucky either. It seemed like Avery's spell had backfired.

Samantha just wanted to forgot her failure. She wanted to forget this round.

The previous round had been rather unfortunate for both teams, Lea a little curious to see if that would shift or continue as they continued further into the duel and became reacquainted with the block. An easy solution for Beatrice to center her concentration was switching her target from two to one as she focused the younger of the Slytherins from her previous attempt, Mahlioz. The Slytherin's wand however seemed rather in tune with Beatrice's actions as it sent out another shrill tone, offering the wand owner enough time to keep out of reach of the Flipendo sent her way.

Zach would also attempt to attack Mahlioz but the spell never even existed to be dodged. Lea frowned as this was the second spell failed, glancing towards Pea as she wondered how the girl managed to grab her attention despite not having yet cast. It would be the two Slytherin girls that would retaliate against Zach, Mahlioz with a Flipendo of her own as Pea went with the Wind Jinx to keep the boy from dodging next round. While the intent was there, the aim of both was shaky, leaving the Ravenclaw with plenty of time to keep his distance from both.

Mahlioz wasn't the only second year Slytherin on the piste, though. Avery, perhaps not wanting to be held down by his previous mistake, opted to focus on any spells coming towards him rather than casting one of his own. Samantha also hoped to forget her previous failure and set her sights on the somewhat stuck Slytherin. Her hope would certainly be granted as she put her all into the Incendio Duo spell, a great blaze as it rushed towards Avery. Despite his focus on keeping out of reach of spells, he would stand no chance against this one as it hit him squarely in the chest with its full power. Lea winced slightly from the sidelines but kept silent- everyone was still up and moving so the duel continued.

He was distracted. "It's just a simple Knock Back Jinx, but you can't get it done?" he blamed himself. He looked at his seniors and saw both of them managed to cast their spell. Even though Mahlioz could evade it, but Avery was successfully hit by the great flame from Sam. No one from his team was injured and was very glad about it. "I have to focus again," the boy barely whispered. He took a deep breath, trying to gather his focus. He pointed his wand at his target and was ready to cast his spell. Hopefully.

Mahlioz was immensely thankful to her wand. She'd known since she first got it that it would come in handy, but she hadn't known exactly how handy until now. Her first duel, and already her wand had warned her just in time to dodge not one but two different spells coming her way. Sure, maybe that meant her stroke of luck was over and she would now be doomed, but she couldn't help being grateful nonetheless.

Leveret, on the other hand, seemed not to have been as lucky. The other team sent an Incendio Duo towards him, and he didn't manage to dodge, even though that seemed to have been his idea from the start. He was now on fire.
Things were going great. Right now, all Mahlioz could do was focus and hope for the best.

	----- A roiling blast was sent his way, and it spelled pain and hurt across his sternum; the focal point of this cacophonous blast. The flames eviscerated a hole through his robes, and singed straight through his uniform beneath; burrowing until it breached skin; burning. His agony wasn’t enough, and he turned it to fuel. His fingers tightened around the wand again, it would bend to his will. The look that flew across the piste, even amidst his burning, was one that threatened the other side beyond friendly sport. Losing wasn’t an option.
