How quickly the days passed without her notice.
Lea refused to recognize it as November, let alone the second days of duels and the last batch at that. She also denied how her throat tightened, brown eyes scanning the population that currently resided in the room, huddled as they anticipated the two duels soon to take place. They were here for the same reason she was, Lea reminded herself, and that wasn't for her. All eyes would be on the 6 duelists, a chance to show off one's skill or represent their house in a display of wands, strategies, and a bit of luck.
It was nice to have some familiar faces among the duelists, the others more a curiosity at the moment as she wondered how they might fare. Pondering that proved enough distraction for the girl to step forth onto the piste without worry, extending her arms out to the audience as she grabbed their attention. "Welcome one and all- to the first stage of the year." She let the silence spill into the crowd before continuing the speech. "Today we have the battle between birds and snakes- which house will emerge victorious?" The girl smirked slightly as she shrugged, turning to one side of the piste.
"From Ravenclaw we have- Zach Zaphiere, Beatrice Langstreth, and Samantha Salwis!" Samantha seemed a little out of place, the same age as Lea while the rest were younger, but the Hufflepuff was mostly unfamiliar with the Slytherin team. Perhaps they had a trick up their sleeve that she didn't know about. Regardless, she swiftly pivoted to announce their team. "And from Slytherin- Mahlioz Evethisawe, Avery Leveret, and Pea Elena Fowl!" The two champions of last year standing versus one another yet again- would either of them keep their streak?
"You should all hopefully know the rules, but I'll quickly go over them..." She wouldn't ramble too long, glancing up as her memorized spiel caught a few hitches but all the information made it through, stepping back as the duel hovered on the starting line. The anticipation and nerves lingered, an edge Lea now was in charge of as she glanced between the two teams. Hold onto it a little longer and... "Alright! Wands at the ready and- Begin!"

The pale boy walked to the piste. It was his second official duel after the last Summer Games. Was he nervous? Yes. But he wasn't as nervous as his first official duel. Not to mention, he also had a chance to practice in the last three months.
This time, he was on a team with his seniors, Sam and Bea. Zach was happy, but on the other hand, he knew that it also meant he must do his best to not disappoint them. Beatrice was there, and that gave rise to a competitive smirk as he recalled how close he had been to besting her in their ‘friendly’ battle. It had been over a year since then, and both had undoubtedly improved. He reigned in his excitement to test just how far they had come as he met up with his teammates.
“Miss Fowl.” He gave with a respectful nod, with the deference that he usually greeted her with, “Miss Evethisawe.”, he greeted similarly.
“Let’s try and avoid a repeat of the summer game, mh? - Are you up to the task, Miss Evethisawe?” He said idly, as if expecting her to have heard about the shocking performance of their school year peer, Duvessa. Slender fingers withdrew his equally slender wand from the leather duffle he had set onto one of the spectating bleachers, preparing to take to the piste. Avery wore the usual school uniform, though with the school sanctioned Slytherin sweater, whose sleeves he was now rolling up as his dark eyes flitted through the faces of their opponents, assessing them indiscriminately.
Measured and poised were his usual descriptors, and that wasn’t different as he climbed the steps to the piste, nodding his head to Lea in polite greeting as he listened to her recite the rules; his mind already ablaze with tactics and counter-tactics he had learned from Beatrice.┗ ┛

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 7
Coming into the Duelling Club for not the first time this year, Bea smiled. It really was one of her favourite aspects of school. The challenge and competiveness singed within. She always relished a good game, and the new Ravenclas captain was sure this was going to be a good one. For one, she was versing Slytherin. Two of her opponents she had versed before, Pea and Avery. Her duel with Avery was more recent, only at the beginning of the year and she was glad she could finally verse him officially. Wipe the floor with him. Officially. The other slytherin, Mahlioz, she knew absolutely nothing about, and because of that was a complete wildcard to her. When she had heard about the match-up, Bea had poured her heart into trying to find information about the unknown little snake.
Thankfully, her own team wasn't unknown to her. She'd played with Zach in her most recent Summer Game, and even though he'd been knocked out, they'd ended up winning. She knew him to be good stock.
Sam. Sam, Sam, Sam. Bea grinned at the thought of being in a team with her. One of her best Ravenclaw friends, her former captain and a former prefect. Really Bea felt she was just following in her footsteps. Much like she was with Dee. She'd never been in match with the other girl, but considering Dee and Sam were two of the reasons for Bea wanting to be a duellist and staying for so long even on waitlist, Bea was buzzing with energy for this duel.
Excitement danced in her belly, filling it with a swarm of busy butterflies. Coming up to the piste when called, she first grinned at her teammates, and then specifically at Leveret. Keeping her eyes on him, she aimed her sickly sweet talk at her teammates. "Ready to keep our winning streak Eagles? I heard the Vipers didn't do all that well in Summer." She paused, a faux pout making its way onto her lips. "Must have been the heat, poor things."

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 7
After winning her summer duel, Samantha was overconfident and super excited to show the other teams who was the best again. This time she was paired with Beatrice, who took over her role as dueling captain, and Zach who was two years below her. The young girl didn't know him that well, but he seemed kind and she was excited to duel with him. The Slytherin team wasn't too familiar to Samantha either. She remembered having a not-so-friendly chat with Pea a long time ago, when she had spotted the other with Cash, one of Samantha's least favorite people on the planet. That was a long time ago. But still, it made it extra fun to beat Pea in this duel. Losing was no option. It had never been an option for her.
After Bea's remarks, a wide grin appeared on the brunette's face. "Don't feel bad for them just yet," Samantha replied. "You can feel bad for them after we wiped the floors with them." As she raised her wand and got ready to fire spells, the fourth year looked over at her two teammates. "I would say good luck, but I don't think we need that. Let's just go with: have fun!"

Look what we have here. Another day, another pathetic birds to swallow. She did not know what to feel, or perhaps to care about. Other than her previous dueling partner Leveret, the other student is not that familiar to her, or she just could not be bother to remember them. Oh, on second thought, she certainly remembers Langstreth. That ghastly curly red hair, she would never forget that. That other Ravenclaw girl does seems familiar too but she just could not place her face anywhere in her brain. Well, if she could not remember her, that means she must not be that memorable.
Pea walk up to the piste as she confidently greeting her partners this dueling season. ”Leveret, good to see you’re still here. Not traumatized are you?”Pea put her fingers to her lips, covering her smile, remembering what happened on their last duel. “Anyway~” the white haired says teasingly, “look at us being paired with another newbie.” Her gaze move to the new girl replacing Ember from last duel. Of course she quits, she barely handled summer game. “Let’s hope this one is not a let down too.” She pierced the new girl irises with her bright blue. But seconds later, the part veela relaxes her expression, and replace it with a small giggles, “Did we scare her already?” Pea walks off with her casual sneer into her position.

Mahlioz was standing in the duelling club for the first time in her life. She couldn't decide whether to be terrified or in awe of everything that was going to happen. Her first duel, and here she was, standing with... two people she didn't know too well. She'd heard Qrow complain about one of them, a certain Avery Leveret, and her other partner was an older year named Pea Elena Fowl. They were both slightly terrifying - but then again, Mahlioz was sort of scared of everything.

Thoughts
Today was not the right day for that, though. It was her first duel, and she might as well make it count. She nodded when Leveret said her name, though she was slightly confused at his next words. She'd spent the last few weeks researching everything she could about duels, but she'd never thought to check the most recent ones. Well, she'd find out someday what had happened in that fateful duel.
Meanwhile, Fowl said something about hoping Mahlioz wasn't a let down too, and to be honest, the second year was hoping the same thing. She'd see where the day took her. For now, she nodded again at her teammates, not sure what to say, and got into position. Maybe her actions would make up for her lack of words. Four wands immediately found one target as the round began- wait, four? Mahlioz would receive no mercy as the entirety of the Ravenclaw team directed their attention, Pea getting distracted and unintentionally shifting her wand from Samantha to her fellow duelling partner. Her wand could only shrill before the spells flew and Mahlioz would have to find space somewhere between the magical projectiles.
Beatrice's Incendio Duo cast would fire first, splitting off to aim towards Pea as well. The noise was warning enough as the younger Slytherin moved in time to watch the spell fly past. Pea, either distracted or unaware, would only barely escape its path, feeling the heat by her face as the fire continued its trajectory and dissipated. Back to targeting Mahlioz, Samantha's Ventus would never make it to the other side of the duelling piste, only a faint breeze whispering through the room that Lea might have imagined. One less spell to worry about-
Zach's Flipendo and Pea's Expelliarmus flew at the same time, the different angles pinning Mahlioz in place. Forced to make a decision, the Slytherin opted to take a hit instead of risk losing her wand, still able to move enough so as to keep the strike to a graze. Painful, but at least she could continue to cast spells. A chance to get some revenge as Avery joined in to keep Zach in place with the Wind Jinx while Mahlioz looked to remove Beatrice's vision. A good plan... had it been properly executed.
The advanced spell Avery cast would turn against him, pushing him against him until moving alone became a chore. It almost seemed as though he cast too well with how it seemed as though the wind had no intention of leaving soon. Mahlioz fired his blindfold at the Ravenclaws but it would find no purchase as Beatrice easily dodged. Perhaps she was still recovering from the rather intense beginning- had the Slytherin dueled in the past? Lea didn't think so but- well, welcome to duelling.

Bea raised her eyebrows at Sams remark, a grin forming on her lips in reply. "You're right Sam. Only when we eviserate them, will I be sorry." She let a thoughtful expression take over her face. "Or maybe not." She wanted this win. Wanted to continue the streak she had started in her first official match last year. At least now she was older, wiser. More experienced. She had this locked down. Clenching her free hand, she fired off a spell. Her favourite if anyone asked. And watched it split, something she'd been proud of learning over the Summer.
Bea watched as both parts of her split spell sailed past her opponents, one by what looked like mere millimetres. She scowled. It seemed more concentration and not arrogance would be needed for this. The snakes weren't going to win this one. She was just glad that one of her team would find their mark. She turned slightly to Zach, her body angled in a way that allowed her to watch the other side of the piste if anything happened. "Good one! Let's keep it going!"
