Elias loved Ruby's energy as she talked about the languages she knew. That's very impressive! he signed. I'm trying to learn BSL quickly. I only started a week or so ago. This whole magic thing was a bit of a surprise, and so was coming to the U.K. He was unaware of any prejudices against Muggleborns, but he also felt comfortable with Ruby. Perhaps it was her similarity to Cara, but Elias had a feeling it was something... different.

Elias grinned when she accepted his offer to dance. She took his hand and led him onto the floor. He could feel the music better here. I know a little. I've only danced with a partner a few times. Not something no-majs really learn in school.

Still, he found the beat of the music. Are you ok dancing more towards the speakers? So I can keep the beat? he asked before getting into position after Ruby's answer, with one hand lightly on her waist and the other grasping her hand.

Elias would then dance for the first time in his short life with a girl that actually wanted to dance with him and didn't pick him as her partner out of pity. He found himself smiling slightly as the two danced, spinning Ruby at one point. It was a wonderful feeling, this sort of freedom he currently felt. Like the world was his oyster.

Marietta would smile at the boy as he fired off his own questions and comments, feeling more at ease knowing she wasn't the only chatterbox in the conversation. She would laugh at the appropriate times and wait, making sure he was down talking before she began responding. "Well for what its worth you don't look geriatric to me! What are you a fourth year?" she would ask trying to be flattering.

Marietta saw that the boy's attention was elsewhere though which didn't bother her, but she wondered if she should keep talking, or just sit in wait in silence. She decided to stop for a moment and look around the ball. It was really in swing now. There was plenty of people about chatting, eating, even dancing. There was even a gentle breeze that seemed to tickle her face, carrying the smell of the lake and the small fires that burned all around them. After that moment she shook her head and continued; Completely unaware that the elder boy was now excited about something. "Oh I actually didn't buy the dress I made i-"

She was cut off by his sudden exclamation. Startled Marietta stumbled verbally for a moment. This hesitation allowed the boy to continue rambling on about the boats. Thankfully Marietta managed to grab her date, Fengel, before she was entirely tugged away. Fen would make a noise frustration because he had been moved. Marietta choose to believe it was because somebody was stealing her away. Mareitta even laughed a little as the boy promised he wasn't stealing her from Fen.

"You talk like somebody who also has a cat. Do you have a cat?" Marietta asked as she relaxed again trying, and failing to keep up as the cloaked boy tugged her along. Marietta, eventually, dearly wanted to ask him to let go, but she felt that might offend him, because she did want to go to the boats. so she allowed herself to continue to be pulled and tugged along. she'd gasp when he mentioned they could go diving though. "Yes!! We could see Herman!" She said with joy, agian trying to pick up the pace. "Oh that would be amazing!!" she said daydreaming of meeting the giant squid and only catching bits and pieces of humming-birded boy's Gondolier rant. Eventually she'd catch up though,

"Oh your italian?" Marietta would ask fascinated, she'd never met somebody from Italy before. Though a man who claimed to be italian, had once tried to kiss my mom in payment for his aroma therapy session [instead of actually paying her]. Marietta would narrow her eyes, was he honestly not trying to steal her? Marietta! Don't assume! She reprimanded herself for even thinking such a thing. So wrapped up in her own mind she wouldn't notice the odd way the boy's cloak seemed to act.

This time it was Zophyr's turn to blush, all of their previous mysterious indifference falling away, and though they were quick to regain their original composure, the white haired boy noticed his falter.
It was quickly forgotten however, as they kneeled to kiss the back of Ren's hand, before saying, "I would be honoured to dance with you."

He led them to the dance floor - or maybe they led him? Ren wasn’t so sure as the entire world began to blur around the two and the fluttering noise of the other students on the dance floor turned into a pleasant buzzing in the background. The only thing the boy could hear was the music and the drumming beat of his own heart as he and Zophyr danced, twirled and swayed in harmony.
Zophyr’s eyes were so golden; the colour of warm caramel or glitter. He had never been one for eye contact, but Ren could see himself getting lost in the other students' eyes.
They were so pretty up-close.
Honestly, how had Ren not noticed them sooner?

Is this what falling in love felt like? He had never really understood all of the fuss about love and relationships before; of course, Ren was an avid enjoyer of the arts like music and poetry; he could understand the concept of love, and of being in love. To him, love was having somebody become your muse or your inspiration, but until that very moment, he had never thought himself the type of person to fall under the quiet spell of romance or attraction.
All this time had Ren been nothing but a beautifully unfinished symphony? Half of a whole concept, desperately and impatiently waiting for the rest of his story to be written?

They were a mystery to him, an entirely new and wonderful idea and had they been anything other than real, Ren would have thought them to be the greatest thing that he had ever imagined.
All of this was new and unknown and the boy found himself so full of questions he wished that he had something in him so he could write them all down. What lay under the surface of this handsome stranger by the name if Zophyr Qethnis?
Your eyes drew me in, and I am lost,
like the Sun in the east and the Moon in the west,
o’er still waters at noon.

gold, not of this world, but of some other world
radiant like the Sun, shimmering as wheat in the field
the eyes of Zophyr shone!
The person before him was nothing but a stranger, and yet, in that moment as they swayed together on the dancefloor, Ren felt as if he had known them for an eternity.
Could Zophyr Qethnis be his muse?

@Bloom Silverton
The pair of underclassmen seemed to be lost in the fray as Bloom whisked Howard away to the dance floor. Not that he barely noticed as his crimson eyes remained locked on the young woman he was in love with. No offense to the youngsters, but the liquor in his belly and her aroma that filled his nostrils left him with a one tracked mind. The silly smile that had come to his face threatened to stick for life as his heart and soul filled to the point of bursting. To think that the two of them had once looked to these balls as dreadful moment of solitude. Howard once lost to his dark tendencies and Bloom unable to connect. A far cry compared to the two of them now as they were fully in love and surrounded by friends. A part of Howard would lament that he had ignored such connections earlier in his schooling career, but if it all led to this, he would quickly lose any regret.

The lovebirds would quickly get lost in dance as an upbeat tune filled the air. Howard had seen people swing dancing in old films before and as fun as it was to try, he was far from a professional. But looks be damned! Bloom and he gave it their all. His feet would take a few stomps, his long limbs knocked into her, but nothing would stop the joy they felt as they danced together. When the music finally slowed they would both be left a little out of breath and with sweat on their brow. Fortunately the next song had a slow tempo.

Howard let Bloom take the lead as she turned her back to his and guided his arms around her. His long, clawed finger clasped together before her as he wrapped her up and held her close. He would stand a good head taller than hers and soon enough she would lean her head back to look up to him. The urge to spin her around and plant a juicy one on her was quite powerful, but her next words proved strong enough to root him in place.

“Meet my family.” The words echoed in his mind, his body flinching against hers as she said them. The mix of trepidation and elation that flowed through his chest caused the visible skip in his body’s function. In one hand he feared what they would think of him. His blood red eyes and deadened complexion. The fangs that grew from his gum line and deadly claws from his fingertips. There was no hiding the fact that Howard was not human and who amongst the Wizarding world would accept him? Who would ever approve of such a union for their daughter? Yet the fact that she was ready to take that step also filled him with joy. Perhaps she too envisioned a future after Hogwarts where they were still together? Maybe she believed their love could endure whatever came next for them? The thought of it all brought a lump to his throat and wetness to his eyes.

“Are you sure?” He asked after letting the emotion subside. Howard did not mean to doubt her, but this was a huge step into their future. One that could end in strained relations, especially with her father. He knew all too well how hard that could be, but with her next words she would reassure him that they were in it together, no matter what. “I’m with you too, Bloom.” Howard pledged as well. No matter how hard it got he would not abandon her or their love. Her family may reject him at first, but in that moment he vowed to himself to prove to them that he was right for their daughter. He would work hard, he would provide and care for her and support her with whatever she chose to do. His arms tightened around her in a silent gesture to emphasize his promise.

“Where should we meet them? At your home? Invite them here?” Howard’s mind began to race. How would it be best? How could he make it go as well as possible? “Perhaps your sisters could help? Do you think they’d like me?” Bloom may realize the tendency Howard had when he got excited. The words and thoughts were coming fast.

After staring at her for a while, the girl finally spoke. "No, I came alone as a show of independence. Is there a reason for a pretty girl like you to be here alone?"

Lyrra narrowed her eyes. What did she mean by that? "I'm not really planning to stay here," The girl shrugged in an attempt to appear indifferent. "I just wanted to come and see what it's like. You know, because everyone's always talking about how amazing it is. The ball." She tried her best to speak without thinking her words over too much, but couldn't help her slightly trembling voice. Her nerves were starting to get to her, and the staring girl wasn't quite helping. Although she appeared to have stopped staring for a while now.

Lyrra looked around the area, and saw that it had gotten pretty crowded now. She realized that, if she hadn't walked up to this girl, she would have probably already left by now. She could still leave, but surprisingly she didn't wish to. She looked at the girl again, and first noticed her eyes. They were two different colours, one was grey and the other a mix of light and dark blue. It was something that, while she had read about it in books, she'd never seen in real life before. When Lyrra realized she was staring, she quickly broke eye contact. She hoped that hadn't come across as weird.

"What's your name?"
She asked suddenly. If she was going to hang around here, she thought she might as well get to know this girl. Your eyes are pretty, was what she wished to say, but that would surely be weird.

Zophyr couldn't place what they were feeling. Well, one thing had changed suddenly, and that was that he felt a lot more masculine all of a sudden, so they were glad they hadn't told Ren their pronouns yet. He'd have to do that at some point.
But that wasn't important. What was important was that he was used to being in control, knowing what was going on, inside their head at the very least. And all of that had shattered now, as they danced with a boy they had only just met and was already giving him butterflies.

What had changed? He thought romance came slowly, once you had gotten to know someone. Just seeing someone, thinking they were beautiful... that was aesthetic attraction, it lead to basically nothing. But what they were feeling was different, and they wondered how that could be. They'd only just met Ren, they didn't know anything about them. As the two twirled around each other, though, Zophyr realized that he wanted to. He wanted to get to know the Japanese boy dancing with him, they wanted to be part of his life and for his to be part of theirs.

How had this happened? A pretty boy who Zophyr had just decided to flirt with had now become an enigma they wanted to find out about. He didn't like it. But at the same time, they felt like they could soar through the skies with this feeling he gave them.
He wanted... they didn't know what they wanted. Was this a crush? Things would be so much simpler if the feeling just went away - they'd dance a little, end it there, and then Zophyr could go back to his regular life. Flirting for the fun of it, causing chaos, without anyone in their mind.

As his eyes met Ren's, though, they found that they could not take them away again, and he knew it wouldn't end so easily. They knew for a fact this white-haired boy would be stuck in their head and that this feeling would not go away, for a while at least... so why not take advantage of it? Let go of all his thoughts for tonight, and dance with Ren Willow-Saito. Give the universe their worries, let them seep away as they spun with a boy he was relatively sure they had a crush on. It would all be fine - he could figure it all out tomorrow. For now, they would dance the night away.

Reuben noticed someone coming towards him. The girl looked really really pretty. Without realizing it, Reuben was staring at her. She was Lorelai. She was definitely Lorelai. She had also, evidently not noticed him. Reuben was so lost in staring at her, he realized at the very last moment that she was going to crash into him. He tried to move out of the way, but it was too late.

"Reuben!", the girl said looking up at him. The boy finally got to his senses. What was wrong with him? Why the hell had he been staring at her? Reuben shook his head slowly to clear his thoughts and smiled at her. "Hey Lorelai!", he said.

She proceeded to give him a compliment, telling him that he looked ravishing and that she felt underdressed in front of him. Reuben blushed without realizing it. It anyone was underdressed today, it was him. "You... You look so beautiful... I'm the one who should feel underdressed", he said. He wondered what they would do. He would love to try out dancing, but he wasn't a very good dancer, and he didn't want anything to go wrong today.

Reuben looked down at the girl. Should he ask her what she would want to do? After not much thinking, he decided that that would be the right idea. "So uh... what would you like to do?", he asked. Maybe they could go to the boats too. That would be fun!

Atlas had woken up with so much excitement today, solely because of the event that was going to happen later on. A Fall Ball, what was that? The Slytherin boy was unfamiliar with ball events and did not know what Fall Ball was. In the muggle community, people do organize big gatherings, perhaps lavish gatherings similar to the ball, that have been held, but the boy never went to one.

Having said that, the youngster was never unaccompanied. He was always with his parents during birthday celebrations, concerts, or other occasions involving a lot of people since they believed he was too young to attend them alone.  Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry resembled a boarding school with a dash of magic, it was unique and Atlas had to be all by himself without anyone looking after him. So far, he hasn't made many friends to hang around with all the time,  and if anything could go wrong at the Hogwarts Ball—they were undoubtedly protected and guarded, right?.

Anyways, the time had arrived and upon making his entrance at the great lake, he stood by as was mesmerized by the decoration and the meticulous planning of the entire place. "Excellent!" he raved with a smile and a lot of excitement. He took off to look at the area as he walked around, hoping to run into someone he knew. He could have even interacted with a random stranger at this point. Students appeared to be more gorgeous than ever and were dressed very beautifully.

A few minutes later, the boy accidentally bumped into a stranger and momentarily got anxious. His heart began to beat more quickly than regular, and he apologized. Considering that he has no fear of adventures, he looked very intimidated. But given that the person he bumped into appeared to be older than him that makes sense. "I am sorry, I got confused for a second and nearly fell." he admitted while deeply hoping that the older student was not one of those typical mean girls. "Again, Sorry! Hello, my name is Atlas," the Slytherin boy introduced himself. He must have given the worst and oddest introduction in history, but he chose to go with the flow and truly hoped that the other individuals have not noticed the weirdness of his behaviour.

@Fang Yun-Xin
"A date..." Pyxis began, "You're beginning to sound just like my dormmates. I think I ended up being the only one without a date. I guess... I just didn't think I was supposed to have one. My parents always told me I was too young for that sort of thing... even though they're always talking about marrying me off to someone reputable one day," he muttered the last bit, suddenly exasperated after his thoughts shifted back to his mother and father. But when Yun-Xin pointed out a blushing couple, his mind was overtaken with embarrassment.

"Wow, okay. Maybe I'm okay without a date," he whispered to her, giggling with an expression that clearly spelt out eww. The immature boy cringed as he looked on and then turned to Yun-Xin. "What about you? Don't you have one?" If the girl confirmed that she didn't, Pyxis would chuckle and say, "Maybe for the better. I wouldn't be caught dead doing that in public." Yes, the Slytherin would show his age with that comment.

Despite his aversion to coupley antics, Pyxis took Yun-Xin's comment with some blushing of his own. He pulled on the front of his brown coat, adjusting it and thanking her. "I think gentleman is exactly the look my par- er, I was going for. Autumn gentleman, specifically. But I fear I may blend in too much to the decor," he joked. "You on the other hand... I think the colors you chose are perfect for tonight. And hanfu! I was guessing that's what it's called, but I didn't want to assume. It really is beautiful," he went on, complimenting the girl.

He wondered if owling his parents for some traditional clothes of his own for the next ball was a good idea, but decided against it. The two of them were always against proudly showcasing their culture, typically dressed in classic English formal looks whenever they had to go out. Pyxis hadn't the faintest idea why, but he knew they would never send him any clothes if he asked for that.

Realizing the silence that followed his words, he looked up from his focus on the ground and found Yun-Xin watching skyward. Her gaze seemed to be directed to the myriad of lanterns already floating overhead. Pyxis had to admit that the sight was gorgeous and really fit the theme of the ball. He was expecting diyas because Festival of Lights meant Divali to him, but the lanterns were just as lovely.

"Do you want to go release some lanterns?" he asked. "I think a lot of the boats have already set off, but it's possible that not all of them have."

[quote][quote]
Oct. 6th, 2023

Laughter escaped Stephen's lips as he listened to EmmaLee's explanation about the meaning behind 'yellow eyes'." "No kidding? Back home jealousy is equated to a green-eyed monster. The things an American fella learns from a French girl at a Scottish school - simply fascinating!"

Stephen took another few spoonfuls of his stew and listened, as intently as he could, to EmmaLee's worry about her friend, Bailey. "Admittedly, I don't know any of them, but I think your friend is safe enough with Hanako. The guy, though not particularly friendly, didn't give me a vibe of being dangerous. I think she's in little danger from his direction. Besides, she's surrounded by hundreds of students. Help would be at her side before she could say, "Boo!" if need be. Don't let's worry about things we don't need to, tonight of all nights," and he stammered a bit over that last part, feeling the tell tale sign of a blush coming on.

He turned quickly, wiping his mouth with the cloth napkin and set his bowl down, hoping she had not caught sight of his moment of embarrassed awkwardness. He turned back to her and continued in a more self-assured manner than he'd have ever believed possible. "What I mean to say, EmmaLee, is that neither one of us has had the the Ball experience that I think we've wished for, and I don't want this one to be spoiled for either one of us due to outside influences. Tonight is our night to have fun. Okay?" And he looked at her and anxiously smiled widely as she seemed to be soberly considering his proposition.

When she quietly turned the conversation to Selene Wartnaby and mention of her notes, his heart did about three backflips in his chest. Enthusiastically, he said to her, "Funny you should mention that. I spent a good part of last night wondering the same thing. Perhaps there might be something in the Library here on that subject," and before he went too deep into this particular rabbit hole, he stopped himself like he had stopped her earlier. It was easy to do because he was aware of the music and the dancing just off to their left, but off to his right, he caught sight of a few orange and yellowish lanterns floating off into the sky.

"EmmaLee," he said in a soft whisper as he pointed up to the sky, "that is the second most beautiful thing I'll see this evening." Forgetting his hunger and half-eaten bowl of stew, he turned his gaze back to his date. "C'mon," and he reached over and took her own bowl from her hand without so much as an 'if you please' escaping his lips. Grasping her now empty hand in his own, he excitedly pulled her gently in the direction of the rising lanterns. As they made their way over, he noticed, for the first time, the rowboats on the lake.

"This is going to be epic, EmmaLee. Absolutely epic."
