It was still dark in the afternoon after the first match, with clouds still visible above. There were a few, but enough sunlight to see how the race would start. It wasn't nice weather for outdoor activities, but it gave a spooky feeling that matched the vibe of the last days of October, "Halloween."Link to Broom Racing System: viewtopic.php?t=12981
That day was also Zach’s first task as the announcer of the match. He actually felt anxious, not only because it was his first time doing it, but also because of the height of the place he had to stand to see all the racers clearly. However, he also felt excited. When the race was ready to start, Zach lifted the microphone and said some opening words. “Welcome to the second match of the Broom Racing Championship! Today we will see a race between Gryffindor and Slytherin.”
Zach looked at the racers at the starting line and continued, “Show your support for the Gryffindor team! They have Della Barfield as the captain, Fang Hui Ying as the Co-Captain, and Xailah Alptraum, Hugh Lowe, and Maverick Castle.” Zach heard the crowds cheering for the Gryffindor team. Then he continued, “And now let’s show our support for the Slytherin team! They have June Selwyn as the captain, Vale Ashwood as the co-captain, and Wyatt Starkey, Colin McCoire and last but not least, Ava Winchect!”
Zach waited for a few seconds until the conditions were conducive for him to speak again. “Racers, line up on your marks! Remember not to break any rules,” he said, emphasizing the last words. “Are you ready? Go!”

June's hands shook ever so slightly as she mounted her broom.
It was impossible to not think of how the last race turned out, which also happened to be against Gryffindor to boot. She wasn't scared of flying and racing again, that wasn't it. If anything, June should have feared her new co-captain @Vale Ashwood and her... unconventional approach to the sport. It was good, June kept telling herself, that it was healthy to have new perspectives. No, she wasn't afraid, she felt pressure. Pressure to win this grudge match. She gripped the handle of her broom tightly. Hopefully that pressure would prove productive today.

She shouldn't have been here.
No, really, she shouldn't have. Only a few hours prior, Xailah Alptraum had ran a race of her own: a race against life and death. She had challenged time himself, and evidently pulled through as a successor; spitting in his face. But at what cost? What had it cost to come out on top? To come out victorious?
A little blood.
Okay. A lot of blood.
A life lost. A new one gained.
A trade.
Such minute things to anyone who hadn't been present at the wrong place at the wrong time. Which, right now, was... everyone mostly. Yet, even through the morbid and utterly taxing trial, Xailah still found the will to press on. That was how she found her way to this race, on this broom, at this starting line, with this team. If one thing was absolutely certain about miss Alptraum: she was a lady of sheer fucking will. And she'd be damned if anything- death, fire, or even potential blood curses- was going to keep her away from a broom race.
She may not have been in the most sound of mind. She may not have been qualified to participate in this race at all- in fact there was a high chance she was not only a liability, but a danger. But she was here now, and that was all that mattered. Others were less fortunate. Howard, Opeila, Jack... Clark, (even if his demise was pretty much his own fault). They were probably in the hospital wing still. Maybe. She didn't really know. She'd have to go and check after the results of this race. But in the meantime, she needed to keep her focus grounded in the moment. Her fellow lions needed her at her sharpest.
Xailah would look to the Slytherin team- they had gone through some changes since she had last seen them. Opeila was no longer captain (a fortunate change, considering earlier events), and in her place now perched a familiar little imp: Vale Ashwood; Slytherin's most unconventional racer. The lioness would greet each opponent one by one, going down the line with a silent but acknowledging nod. Once she got to Vale, she would pause her standard greeting to offer the snakelet a more personal one. "Congratulations on your new rank, miss Ashwood." Xailah would offer the younger girl a courteous bow of her head. "I trust that you will keep things interesting for us, yes?" A puckish smirk crept across her face, certain that Slytherin had plenty of fun tricks up their sleeve for this evenings flight.
Turning, she'd return to the lineup among her beloved Gryffindors; a ragtag little team that she had grown increasingly fond of over the years. They had gone through some changes of their own, and today would be the first race with their new cub. Maverick Castle was a interesting little fellow. Kept to himself, mostly; but he displayed little sparks of passion (or maybe it was solely interest) in the racing scene. He had the makings to be a very successful racer, really. "Ready?" Xailah would ask the newest recruit. "Chin up and eyes ahead." As she spoke she would turn her attention from him and onto the grey horizon spread before both teams, like a boundless sea. "You will blow them away." Silence would capture her after that, anticipating the signal that would start the race.

ReducioCats Grace: Xailah has always had a stealthy and cat-like aura about her. She is essentially a master of stealth in the making. Xailah can enter threads hidden from other users. There is a 25% chance of this being successful. This can be countered by those with Sixth Sense where if she enters the topic successfully hidden, they get a roll to see if they detect her anyways. She would no longer be considered hidden if she attempts to communicate or interact with the environment in any ways (such as trying to steal something or hit someone). On any stealth checks, she has a +2 to her stealth.
Blindvision: A life lived in the dark has given Xailah the ability to see without her eyes. She has learned to thrive in places untouched by light. Xailah can see in magical and in non-magical darkness. Illusionary, non-corporeal effects do not have an effect on her. This does not replace her visual sight.

Antidote to Common Poisons: The Antidote to Common Poisons is a potion which counteracts ordinary poisons, such as creature bites and stings.
Antidote to Uncommon Poisons: This potion cures minor magical, or uncommon poisons such as doxy bites, which are highly venomous.

GRYFFINDOR vs SLYTHERIN - FALL 2023
A shiver ran down Ying's spine as soon as she reached the starting line for the race. It would be her first time racing and she was feeling the weigh of all her responsibility to the team. She was so nervous that her hands sweated even in the autumn chilly weather. The sky was dark and even if it gave them a break, it still promised rain and some bad temper alongside it. The young girl's brown eyes hovered over the spectator stands searching for familiar faces and it was then that she saw Raizel, her best friend was there to support her and their team, dressed in black and red and with a Gryffindor scarf and all! A wide smile spread across her face in an instant and she waved at her best friend enthusiastically.
If Ying was herself a brewing potion it was certainly about to explode. The mix of feelings she was experiencing was overwhelming. She was excited and anxious to finally prove herself and her skills but at the same time she wasn't ready to accept a failure. To be fair, that is something that will never be easy for her, she would always be a sore looser and never able to deal with her own disappointment, that was what scared her the most.
Looking at their opponents, it was inevitable to remember the last time they faced each other and how it ended. Ying hoped that wouldn't happen again. Visions of what she had seen invaded her mind and she had to shake her head to banish them so as not to let the fear consume her at that moment. It wasn't the right time to think about it. Her eyes found the green ones of her friend, Colin, and if she was nervous before now she was afraid her heart would start the race ahead of her with the way it threatened to leave her chest. She timidly smiled at him feeling her cheeks getting warmer and immediately avoided his gaze. "Exactly what I needed" She thought with sarcasm.
The young girl looked down to her feet and closed her eyes in a brief meditation. "You can do this, you're finally part of the team as a racer, this is all you ever wanted. You're ready, you're awesome." She thought encouragingly as she breathed in and out, feeling the anxiety leave her shoulders, but her heartbeat was still feeling like a frenetic hammer.
When she finally look up, she stared at the challenge in front of her with daring eyes, she would conquer that race, she had faith in her and mostly importantly in her team. Looking at them she felt eager to start the race, they were such an amazing team! Della, Xailah and Hugh were already veterans, they had so much experience in broom racing that to her they felt like solid ground beneath her feet, even on a speeding broom, she trusted and admired them. As for Maverick, she knew how good he was in his broom, even if they were in the same boat this race, being the first time for both, she couldn't have asked for a better companion. "You will blow them away." Xailah said and Ying heard it like a command. A smirk appeared in her rosy lips, "Yes we will!" She replied in an assertive tone.

This is it: Maverick Castle's first broom race. All right, he might be entering this unready, at least not in terms of knowledge. Mentally he was, and the preteen was sure he was born ready and born to win.
He looked at all fellow racers, both the Gryffindors and the Slytherins alike. But being a little (or not a little) reckless, Maverick quickly and simply formed in his mind that no one was his ally; everyone his rivals. If Della Barfield or Fang Hui-Ying told him to give way to other Gryffindors, goodness forbids them from doing so, he would consider it a "team order" and ignore it, that was for sure. His glory was his glory, his loss was his loss.
As he waited on the grid, he envisioned there were red lights and an orange-and-blue-uniformed marshal in front of him. The marshal moved quickly to one side and the red lights were on...
"Go!" The lights are off!

GRYFFINDOR vs SLYTHERIN - FALL 2023
Whooping and hollering, Colin and Liam skipped and ran down to the outdoor club area as fast as they could! Colin wore his racing robes and kilt; Liam his drab blue kilt. Their voices rang out with laughter as they approached! Liam had been carrying Colin's broom, sometimes giving it a shove through the air and catching it again, sometimes balancing it on his hand! At last they got the turning in the path that would divide them: Colin down to the starting area and Liam up into the spectator stands.
"Here, tak yer besom laddie! And try not to die!"
"Awa wi ye, Liam! It's not me who'll die the day!"
"Is Clair, do chridhe1 going to watch you impale yerself on a tree the day?"
"Don't be a wank, Liam!" Colin said laughing as he shoved his twin up the path towards the stands and himself ran down to where the teams would be gathering. "OWOOOOOOOOO!!!" When he got down to the starting place, several kids were already there. June and Vale of course! He hopped around June and gave her a hug. He was hyped and he hoped she was too! He put his hands on Vale's shoulders, saying: "Let's set em all on fire Valeeeee!!! WOO!"
He greeted Wyatt, the Basilisk veteran, with a grin; but the other racer, one of two or three people in all the world he hated with all his strength, he ignored her. Winchect. She was on the team, and though it made Colin sick and anxious that she was even allowed to be in the school, he would tolerate her existence for the sake of the team.
As for the Gryffindorks, veteran flyer Xailah came over to greet them in her customarily gracious fashion! It wasn't Colin's style, but he liked how she did that. Class! As always, she greeted each of them, and Colin returned her grave nod with a flashing smile, showing off all his fangs, and a graceful bow with a sweep of his cloak. As she went to speak with June and Vale, one particular lion caught his eye.
She looked him in the eye.
Colin stared.
He smirked.
He loped over towards Ying with a smile. He stopped right in front of her! He lowered his voice: "Ayo Ying!" Ever since they'd spent the entire day on the train from Kings Cross, Colin decided that he could feel comfortable around the cute lion. He wondered why shy seemed flustered. "Ye'll be fine, lass! Just don't run into any trees! Or squids!" He gave her shoulder a friendly cuff. "See ye in hospital after the race?"
Colin winked at Ying before turning back to stand ready with the Basilisks!

GRYFFINDOR vs SLYTHERIN - FALL 2023
Hugh arrived to the usual sounds of his own grumbling and stomping feet. He took his place next to his teammates and sighed deeply. "I was expecting us to have to race in the rain again." He explained with the same disgruntled Scottish voice he always had rolling out of his chest. "But maybe our luck is turning already." He smiled, looking over to the now-racing captain. Ying had been on a bench for the last race, it must've been annoying not to be able to race with a team you're supposed to lead. Lucky for her, it had been the shortest race any of them had ever had.
He eyed the young upstart that had recently joined the team. They seemed eager to go, too eager to go. The giant rolled his eyes. Slow and steady would maybe not win this race, but steady could at least get you to the end. Hugh was fine to break through anything in his path, this guy was squishy. So, he'd better be a damn good flyer. His eyes glanced towards Ying after Xailah exclaimed something about Maverick blowing them all away. "If he won't, I'll at least make sure they're all blown up." He winked before mounting his new tree.
His new pinechopper felt like he was flying a huge lance that cut through the air. He always liked his Autumn Cruise. It was sturdy and quite bulky, but it could take a few hits and felt reliable. This thing could go faster, but the dangly point of the slender pine tree wobbled near the tip. It needed more coercion than all the other he'd had before. Lucky for him, he had the required strength to bring the 'broom' back in line whenever it decided to have a fit.

GRYFFINDOR vs SLYTHERIN - FALL 2023
----This race was slightly different from the usual ones Vale dealt with. This time, she was a captain, and not just a racer. How that came to be, was to anyone's guess. She's been with the team since she could barely pass the height of her broom. Now she couldn't just offer her simple opinions of just setting things on fire and kidnap their opponents before the start of a race. She had to be more 'professional', take a more 'mature' approach to the sport. But what isn't professional or mature about figuring out how to guarantee a win? And a easy win at that!

Vale could barely hear a voice greeting her as she regrets not taking someone hostage beforehand. Her amber eyes jumped up to stare at a taller girl, and one that was familiar. Her congratulations were heard, and it made the young Ashwood crackle in glee. "Xailah Alptraum! May the world weep as you bring its destined misfortune!"
In preparing, Vale was actually surprised by hands grabbing her shoulders, but a familiar voice shouting made her do her signature smile. "Oh Colin! You shouldn't give away our plans! June wouldn't like that." Vale may be a captain now, but she was still an arsonist at heart.
And oh horror, shall she live up to the Ashwood legacy.

Ava fidgeted with her broom as she carried it over to her team, switching it from hand to hand. She hung on the fringes of the small group of students, acutely aware of her age in comparison to the others and her…reputation (not the Taylor Swift album kind). She scanned the course, or what she could see of it and pasted an excited smile on her face. She was sort of excited, but not as much as she should be. It was her first game, nervous-ness was inevitable. At the very least she could look excited.
Ava made sure to stand as far as was possible from Colin and not look in his direction. Not once.
