Closed Fall Ball 2023 Candle-Lit Banquet

Esme noticed the boy's tone of voice. She understood it, in a way, it would have been her if she hadn't decided to be the best her she could be. She frowned a little but shrugged and paused. She was wondering if she should shut up, maybe so.

After maybe a bit of silence, she pathetically said: "I'm sorry, I simply came by myself and I felt out of place, but it's not my place to pull you into my sorrow." She shook her head earnestly. It could be taken incorrectly, but she meant to be kind, to avoid making any enemies unnecessarily. "Perhaps you'd like to relax then, I can lead you to a spot where you don't have to stand, if you don't mind?"

If someone's gonna hide, they shouldn't have to stand and hide, she offered to take him to a place where he could chill while he waited, maybe he'd like it if he could take in the Ball unbothered, she'd see soon enough if he appreciated that idea. "I can't say I really know how you feel, but then, that's none of my business, right?" She chuckled to attempt to lighten the mood, maybe he was just unhappy about the tone, she didn't know really.

"Good idea! I'll be waiting for it." EmmaLee said brightly to Bailey as the pair started to walk away and over to the food laid out scrumptiously before them. She chuckled as Stephen joked about his voracious appetite and grabbed bowls for the both of them.

"Thank you very much." EmmaLee said, taking the bowl he offered her and letting him spoon some stew into it. She grabbed a couple of pieces of bread with butter and a goblet of water to go with it and followed him to a free table as he asked about what she had said to Hanako. Taking a bite of the bread, she tipped her head sideways curiously at his as she chewed and listened to him speak.

"Oh... um" She started as she swallowed, then covered her mouth and talked behind it to not expose any possibly remaining bread in her mouth. "It seems pretty clear to me that 'Anako is yellow with jealousy and in a bad mood because 'e is not the person Bailey was 'oping to run into tonight. My Maman used to tell me that I was behaving like a yellow eyed monster when I acted that way." EmmaLee explained, turning to look at the other pair for a moment before turning back to Stephen with a small frown. "Bailey is almost constantly with another boy named Kim, but their relationship seems to be more one sided than I thought." EmmaLee furrowed her brow and put one knuckle to her lip in thought for a moment.

It troubled her to think that bubbly Bailey was in this kind of predicament. EmmaLee didn't like to think of her friends troubled or sad for any reason, but it didn't seem to be a situation she herself could or should get involved in. She could give comfort and sympathy, but not much more than that, as she had no experience in this area. She resolved to keep an eye on the situation and if Bailey looked like she needed a friend, EmmaLee would be there.

The Hufflepuff gave herself a self assured little nod and then shook her head a little to clear the worry. Tonight was for fun with her good friend, not for dwelling on other people's seeming love triangles. She looked back up at Stephen and took a bite of stew. "I don't mean to gossip or anything, but it is odd to see Bailey in any kind of low spirits, even for a moment. So I am a bit worried about her, admittedly." She crinkled her nose and waved the comment away from the front of it with her hand.

"But that is neither here nor there at the moment." She said, regaining her cheerfulness and beaming brightly at him once again. "It occurred to me this morning that we never really got around to talking about Selene Wartnaby's broom last night. Do you think it would be possible to find her notes somewhere? Or do you think they are long gone?" She mused, continuing to eat her stew as she gave him time to ponder and speak.

Cloak of Hyumming
An initial glance around him didn't yield anything of particular interest, but then again his attention-span tended to be extremely short and he often had a tendency to overlook things that should usually be right in the middle of eyesight. He wouldn't have been surprised if it had been a full moon out and he had somehow missed the fact that a werewolf was charging right for him at this very moment! Well... perhaps he shouldn't try to press his luck, knowing for sure that a certain Scotch werewolf would have certainly taken the opportunity if it was presented to him.

Still, his ears piqued, and he continued to find himself distracted even as he was supposed to be politely waiting for the other girl to reply to his fired-off questions. Humming for a second before letting out a low whistle, the boy felt cool night wind on his face carried from the Great Lake. Say, there were supposed to be, like, lantern floating or something over there, right? Wouldn't that be fun? Besides, it wasn't like he had anything else better to do. Figaro could keep an eye out over here while Piérre himself was away, and of course the feline was well trained enough that if there was something that tipped sensitive senses off the cat would come rushing over to Piérre in order to save his own skin (at the least). Hanging around large crowds that didn't need an overstimulation of entertainment was boring; he couldn't perform for anyone or turn anyone's heads short of being a nuisance (which admittedly it was a stretch to say that he wasn't typically a nuisance to most of the people that he ran across on a daily basis as it was).

Well, he had wanted to go to begin with... but running into this young student had complicated things a little bit. He couldn't very well just abandon her, especially not so soon after they had just met! Besides... if there was something weird going on around here, he wouldn't have been able to forgive himself if something happened to her the very moment that he had thought it was safest for him to move on. He had had a similar instance of this sort of thing before, when someone had trusted him and had gotten very, very hurt because of it. Memories that dredged up bad feelings and dark emotions, and times that the Jester wished that he could not only forget about but could have acted differently during. He had not seen any of these parties after meeting them this one time... but their actions had seared themselves into his mind. Perhaps, if he did see them again there could be a flash of recognition to be had, but the boy was rather oblivious to the conditions of most of these parties other than Victor.

No. He couldn't let something like that happen again on his watch. Chivalry? Was that what was suiting him at this moment? Or perhaps was it simply a need to cause an issue for this particular young lady that he refused to let alone; noble perhaps to the point of being awkward to explain if seen at the wrong moment.

Bouncing ever so slightly on his feet as his pointed ears continued to alternately pique and unpique with the lifting and lowering of his brows, Piérre squinted out towards the lanterns in particular. He was starting to get bored, and boredom meant--

"Hey let's go to the boats." He blurted out suddenly, most likely interrupting the girl mid-sentence. His eyes flashed to her quickly with a newfound sparkle in them, his face a mixture of seriousness and yet youthful energy. "We could fly some lanterns over there and recreate what it was like to be firstie coming to Hogwarts for the very first time. Man, I wish I could take the boats all the time. It should really be an option for graduating seventh years or something..." He began to tangent a little, lightly testing a nail with a light chew of internal intrigue. "It would be like maybe going around and seeing all the places with good memories or something maybe perhaps... I remember the boat ride like it was just this last September... nearly jumped into the lake because I wanted to see what was in it. I can't swim, though, so that probably would have been a really bad idea."

He continued to consider it before making up his mind. "Yep, nope! We're going to go on a boat ride and send some lanterns into the skies! Come on, you!" With a grin and a sudden movement, the boy attempted to take the girl by the hand and tug her after him with a respectably firm amount of strength. "Bring your date too, he can join in the fun as well if he wants to watch from the shore or something!" He chirped at the cat. "I promise I won't steal her from you, I know you're more dear to her than I'll ever be." He sang as he pulled and pulled, the feathers from his cloak fluttering ever so slightly behind him. If Marietta's eyes were keen, perhaps she would notice that the feathers--particularly the white collar feathers around his shoulders and neck--seemed to alternatively melt and flutter away from the boy's skin in a strange, almost morphic, fashion; it was as if they were trying to melt into and become one with his skin. In the same moment, his footsteps became much lighter, almost as if he was running on air for certain steps and strides before 'grounding' once again.

All the while the boy was rambling incoherently, ignoring Marietta's complaints or cries. "It's gonna be so much fun! We could maybe even go swimming in the Lake! I know the bubblehead charm, so if we want to go diving I could give us a way to breath if needed. It would help considering I don't swim very well... I never have, I almost drowned twice before! That wasn't fun, don't do it because I really don't suggest it... But then we get all wet... but I know the hot-air spell! Easy peasy, everything has a solution if you just brainstorm hard enough! OH! I COULD BE A GONDOLIER!" This last part was shouted slightly louder with a distinctly foreign trill to the end of his words. "Ah yes, the call of-a my Venetian people!" His accent was starting to slip through his English again, not that it hadn't been unnoticable before. "Aw man! I should have brought my striped shirt and then I could cast engorgio on a big stick and used it as a steer... maybe I can still do the stick thing, actually... hmmmmm... Oh this is going to be so much fun! You're going to have such a great time! Come on, you! To fun and joyful memories that shall last for as long as we live!"

As if it were ripped directly out of a physical comedy Piérre make his way towards the boats and lanterns, preferably with the young girl that he had assigned himself to being the guardian of for the night. Silver bengal Figaro watched from the comfort of a part of the decorations stable enough to be laid upon, the black tips of his ears and tails twitching as with a slow mint-green blink he watched Master-Brother frolic away. Not that the feline was too worried, however. Master-Brother was usually pretty good at getting himself out of most of the things he got himself into. And, well, if he didn't... of course the feline would be right there the moment he was called.

Rhys hadn't asked Qrow- or anyone else- to the Fall Ball. They hadn't even wanted to go, considering their last ball experience (much like their first, the one before it) had ended in disaster. They luck, when it came to these events, was nonexistent.

So why were they here tonight, then? Their father, Sebastian Read. The man relied heavily on his (and his family's) reputation, and since that reputation had been slightly soured with Rhys nearly getting in a fight with that Mornstern brat in Slytherin - which would have been self-defense, since he provoked them without any reason- it fell on them to help repair it.

Perhaps Rhys' prior unruliness wouldn't have mattered if they'd been pureblooded, but since their mother was a muggle, they were left to wonder. Fortunately for Sebastian, though, their pureblood relatives approved of his efforts to bring his children up in a respectable manner. He dragged Rhys and the twins to nearly every gala and event his family hosted over the summer, and Rhys' cousins and aunts took it upon themselves to teach them how to act more "ladylike." So, they learned to walk with their chin up, to maintain elegance they certainly didn't always feel. Their posture had significantly improved from the year prior, which was one of many differences that made them nearly unrecognizable.

Rhys arrived with Rhain and Rhun, their hair plaited back in dual french braids. They wore a long, sage green dress that hugged their waist and flowed down around their legs. They had matching green eyeshadow, with gold eyeliner that matched their flower earrings and high heels. Rhun disappeared soon enough, and Rhys let out a sigh as they looked to Rhain.

"I hate everything about this." They grumbled, looking around. They were looking for Qrow, but they didn't realize it. They looked back at Rhain. "We're supposed to, what, act stuck up and try to fit in with the people who hate us?" They were thinking of Lucian, and their blood boiled as they thought of the run-in they'd had with the pureblooded Slytherin. Or even that girl, Duvessa, another Slytherin that had chastised Rhys on their unkempt appearance the year prior. Rhys had said something about how they couldn't all be perfect, and yet, here they were, all prim and proper. The irony.

Rhain didn't have time to answer, as one of their older cousins, Rowena, swooped in like a hawk, insisting they get a dance in, and oh, did she introduce him to her recently single friend yet? She took him by the arm, guiding him away, and Rhys was left along with their thoughts.

Have to step carefully in these heels. I hate this dress. These earrings are the worst..

But negativity wouldn't do, and Rhys forced those thoughts aside as they lifted their chin and started towards the refreshments for a bite to eat. They already had half a mind to check out the lanterns and the boat rides, so they stopped momentarily to grab something to eat before moving on. They didn't really feel like socializing or dancing.

Helena listened to Madi quietly. The golden haired girl gazed around the ball ever so curiously wondering what to do next. The young girl noticing that the rest of their group seemed to be heading down towards the lake. Helena looked over at Madi smiling softly at the young girl.

Seeing her speak about quidditch with a passion made the young girl feel excited even curious about the sport. Listening to Madison speak more the more Helena seemed intrigued to know the girl better.

Even as Madi was speaking about her family being semi similar to hers made the young girl feel slightly relieved in a way. Helena never thought she would find someone that had something similar in common with her. Smiling softly at Madison Helena continued to listen quietly.

Madison mentioned finding their friends. Helena smiled softly glancing downwards. Before returning her soft blue gaze towards the older girl.

“I believe I saw them heading down towards the Lake maybe we should head down that way?”

Helena spoke softly in her quiet tone. Still eyeing the many students that were arriving towards the ball. Slowly Helena started to walk down towards the lake. Taking in the sights surrounding the younger girl quietly. Though she waited for Madi to follow her to take the trek down towards the lake. Her golden haired girl smiled softly.

Madi saw Alyssea, Landon and Rodney head down to the lake out of the corner of her eye, however before she could mention it, Helena mentioned it. Maybe she doesn't want to hear anymore about Quidditch, fair enough too, we have talked for a while now anyway and it's getting kinda crowded Madison thought to herself.

When Helena suggested moving down to the lake, Madison nodded and smiled, "yeah that sounds good, besides, all of our group are down there anyway" Madi said, taking two more Pasties before following Helena down to the lake. As they were walking down, Madison was thinking about how much fun she was having, even though she didn't have her boyfriend here with her, which would have made it even more special. But there'll be other balls that we can go to together anyway Madison thought to herself, as she caught up to Helena and walked down to the lake with her.

Madi held her dress up a little so that it didn't get dirty and she'd worn her shoes in already so they weren't rubbing against her feet. The calm sounds of the lake soon replaced the noise of the banquet as the two girls got closer to the Lantern making area.

Interacting with @Howard White
It felt like ages waiting for the two to come, but it seemed that perhaps it was just one pair going to the dance floor. Bloom was beginning to feel a little free, and perhaps it was the "liquid luck" that was helping her. Here she was years ago, completely by herself and now she was dancing with a man who she could see herself with for the rest of her life. When he grabbed her hand and began to swing dance, Bloom couldn't help but the laugh. She went along with it.

Granted, the Ravenclaw had no idea how to swing dance, but she let Howard lead as much as possible, perhaps stepping on his feet a few times. Bloom could feel the heat of the dancing race up her back and behind her neck as her breathing got heavier, but it did not stop her from continuing. This was her last fall dance and she was going to make the most of it.

When the music finally slowed down, she couldn't help but to let out a soft cough and breathe slightly heavy. She was slightly sweaty, and hoped that calming down her dancing would dry her skin back to normal. If he would allow it, she would turn around and lean against Howard, having him behind her and bring his arms to wrap around her. The two would be dancing by swaying back and forth.

Bloom looked up at Howard's crimson eyes and then looked down at his claws. For some reason, none of that bothered her like it would for someone else. She was in love with someone who was not human, and yet, that made her remember: her father. Still her parents do not know what he is, other than his name and how much Bloom adores him. The minute her father finds out would be the minute it is all over. Though, she knew she had to be brave about it at some point.

"Howard, I'm ready for you to meet my family," she said, looking back up at him. She wasn't sure how he would take it-- would he be excited? Worried? It was another big step of their relationship other than the one they experienced together over the summer. "And I'm with you no matter what," she added, making sure he knew that no matter what her father would say, she was in it for the long haul.

I would if you’re not ready to be wholly obsessed with me for the rest of the night” he retorted with a shrug, “ I’m a rather jealous person. All this pretty-ness would go away the second I see my date focused on some other pretty boys”. He gave her a lighthearted knowing smile, knowing she absolutely understood what he meant. While he admits he had some fun times with Glade (minus the day she annihilated with martial arts after he kissed her crush), he wouldn’t be able to handle a date with her. Knowing she had her eyes on someone else already. He was not one to come in between something clearly too cherished for his taste. Whatever Kim and Bailey had was inseparable, and he certainly wanted a clear way from that. The only problem is that Bailey let her feelings run too deep. But that was one thing they could never seem to agree on.

Bailey was a romantic. He was not. Would he despise her for it? No. Would he feel a small sense of sympathy, as if she was a kicked puppy? Yes. And he was allowed to feel that while also enjoying their time together.

Soon enough they were able to be alone after she said friendly goodbyes. She then turned to him and joked back about his jest on how fond her friends were of him. “ Oh yes, truly lucky. You’re going to have to get used to this if you want to be friends with me, Glade. I’m simply irresistible, and unforgettable”, he retorted back playfully with a wink.

At her mention of her plans for the ball, he subtly raised his eyebrow. No mention of kim at all. Perhaps his facial expression was enough to express something along the lines of, ‘Really now? Where's the boy you’re obsessed with?’. To him, it felt like it was incredibly easy to find Kim everywhere. The boy was just simply…everywhere. To know his absence at a ball, it was almost astonishing.

Me?” he questioned when she mentioned she enjoyed his company. He liked hearing it, of course. But she really ought to pick better friends. And he kept telling her that so it was useless to bring it up again, honestly. In the end she was going to do whatever she wanted. In a way, that was one of her charms. “ I did say I’m physically incapable of being boring” he played along.

Then she asked his plans for the night and he gave her a cocky grin. “ Me? No, Glade. I’m pretty sure I’m that special someone plenty of people hope for. I- on the other hand, am just leading it up to the night. Striking up unforgettable conversations with good looking strangers. And with luck, the night ends with a little bit of fun” he responded somewhat vague about what ‘fun’ meant. But with the mischievous glint in his eyes, perhaps Bailey could get a good guess.

But alas, it seemed the night led me to you. Not that you're not good looking, course. Just uh...unavailable?” he mentioned, in a more lighthearted tone this time. “ Question is, what would you like to do?”. The question was short and simple, but he was confident Bailey understood what he was offering. If she wanted a distraction, he was the right person to call.

As soon as the last class of the day ended, Ying ran to her dorm to get ready for the ball. She didn't want to be late and make her friend wait too long for her. She had been looking like a mess tho, her hair had been all entangled and it took her some time to be able to comb it properly. A good hour later, the young Gryffindor walked merrily through the halls of the castle with quick steps, leaving behind the sound of her heels clicking on the floor and the rustle of her golden dress on the old stones.

A spectacle of lights welcomed her as soon as she reached near the Great Lake. The decorations were beautiful, Ying felt like entering an enchanted forest, she kinda hoped to see bright little fairies flying around, over the heads of the dancing couples. The girl's brown eyes, that sparkled like two dark gems in the night, searched for her friend. A little sting of insecurity suddenly caught her heart, what if Beatrice had regretted at the last minute and decided to not show up? But this feeling vanished as fast as it had appeared, when Ying finally saw Miss Dupont making her way through the crowd. "Bea!" She called out, making a few heads turn in her direction, but she paid them no attention, starting to head towards her friendly-date. "Wait!" She said getting closer to Bea.

As soon as she reached her friend, Ying greeted her with a bright smile, she was genuinely happy to be there and see her. "You look so beautiful tonight! I love your dress!" Ying said to her friend looking at the golden and blue details in Beatrice's dress. "What do you say about all of this?" She asked gesturing towards all the decorations, "They did an amazing job don't you think?"

The young Gryffindor was feeling more energetic than what she usually shows. But she was so excited to be there that she forgot completely about the "proper lady behaviors" that her parents would instill and expect of her, and was simply being herself. Her dress made her feel like a princess and her skirt practically begged her to twirl and dance at the sound of the beautiful melody they were hearing, "Miss Dupont," She started making a small bow and reaching out her small hand towards the raven haired girl, "Will you bring me the kindness of a dance?" She asked between sounds of soft amusement.

Despite initially not wanting to be included in the unnecessary festivity that is the Fall Ball, Annabelle has decided to go. Why? Simply because she had nothing better to do and her only 2 friends are planning on going. She searched through her trunk to find something to wear, fortunately she found a black and layered tulle dress with sheer sleeves that will be rather fitting.

It all went by so fast and she found herself at the entrance to hell, the music prompts ger to enter and be overwhelmed with so many colors. After a few minutes, she found herself standing alone in a random spot after feeling socially disconnected. Her movements weren't her own and she felt as if she was floating, standing still is helping her get used to her surroundings.

After she collected herself, she finally feels eyes on her. She refused to turn in the direction of the person and chooses the oblivious approach, trying to keep herself from glaring at whoever is staring at her. She was so preoccupied with her thoughts she barely noticed the girl until she said, "Excuse me. Are you waiting for someone?" The girl's tone of voice was genuine. That made Annabelle look at the girl and make immediate eye contact with her.

Grey and Light Blue meet Medium Grey, She's quite pretty. Annabelle own Grey/Light Blue eyes are a result of heterochromia but the girl's eyes have a slight blue tint, one would think they were blue.

Annabelle stops staring at the girl, finally deciding to speak and not stare. "No, I came alone as a show of independence. Is there a reason for a pretty girl like you to be here alone?

In her eyes that wasn't flirting, it was just an observation. Annabelle would be lying if she says that the mystery girl didn't give her hope that this show of festivity won't be a horrible nightmare.
