Lanterns and Boat Rides
making lanterns, hopping in a boat with Botan and traveling over to the commotion.
The two students made their way over to the the lanterns and boat rides. Charlie walked slower than usual, with her arm intertwined with Botan's arm. They entered the area that had a few empty boats and tables with lantern making supplies. Charlie felt like Botan wanted to make one, mostly because he seemed to aim himself at the tables with the supplies. Charlie let him go, and walked with him over the table. "Want to make some lanterns?" She asked, even though she knew exactly what he was going to say. Yes.
Charlie picked up on of the pre- made lanterns and looked over the supplies. There was practically every art supply you could imagine in every shade of the rainbow. Charlie decided on some paints and markers. She began designing her lantern by sketching out her design in pencil. The she began filling them in with paints and markers. She added a few of her favorite quotes and some fun doodles before declaring it finished. "Lovely. I think it's decent." She announced to no one in particular. Charlie waited a few moments, and when Botan was done they made their way over to the boat dock.

Charlie picked out a boat and began climbing in it, purposefully not sitting in the spot that the rower would sit in. She looked off in the water as Botan was climbing in, and saw it. Grindylows. Attacking and drowning students. Great. "Botan!! Look! We must go and help!" Charlie exclaimed while Botan gripped the oars. Charlie found her wand in her pocket and raised it at the commontion. She didn't cast anything, as she didn't want to hit anybody who might have a better chance at casting a more effective spell. She just needed to get closer.

"That it is." she agreed, again pushing the thoughts of past dangers and what this ball could bring, honestly why did students keep attending the balls? why were they even allowed to run them? Why did she keep attending them? She shook off the question and decided to instead attempt to enjoy the night without adding another reason to not attend the next ball.
Clair grinned when Colin fixed a hair, if there was even one there, she thought it was cute that he paid such attention to detail. "At the mirror? and it worked in some way? Hmm interesting..." She was getting pretty used to the fact that Colin seemed to get into trouble no matter what he did, really it only made him cuter. She poked his side playfully, "I see that, it suits you."
She liked how it complemented his eyes and how it made his face look.
Clair ran after her boyfriend, it seemed that this was what he liked to do, run. Maybe it was the wolf in him, but Clair found herself often running after the boy in an attempt to keep up. When they got to the boats, the prefect took a moment to catch her breath, huffing a bit as she sucked air into her lungs.
"Aye!" she half dove half flopped into a boat, causing the boat to make a splash and move around a bunch. The move was about as graceful as Clair herself and She had managed to get herself wet. She was unsure if the splash had hit Colin as well, but her own skirt was now soaked pretty well. "Hello, My name Clair Fernandez. What house are you hoping to get sorted into?" She pretended to be a first year who was unsorted, a smile crept onto her lips and she tried hard to hold in a laugh at the act.

Clair asked about his spellwork. "Yeah. It was a bit of a fiasco! I could feel the magic and everything alright. I did the right incantation and the wand motion." Colin ticked each step off on his fingers. "Just like I'd practiced! I rechecked my book and everything! Only --- Maybe it bounced off the mirror or something? Can magic do that even? Remind me not to cast incendio in front of a mirror! Ma will kill me for sure if I burn up another shirt! I mean --- YEEEEEEP!!"
Clair poked his side and Colin shrieked, nearly doubling over from the tickle force! "Clair! Ye know I'm super ticklish!" Colin laughed enthusiastically.
Colin loved running with Clair! It wasn't too far down to the waterside, though, so the run was really short. She surprised Colin by making a graceful leap for the nearest boat! He felt bad for laughing at Clair, but really, the way she flopped around and grasped at the sides of the boat was really quite comical! Fortunately the water splashing around missed Colin this time, but a disgruntled sounding growl from Greebo told Colin that the poor kitty did not fare so well!
"Hello, My name Clair Fernandez. What house are you hoping to get sorted into?" Clair said, imitating her first year self. Colin laughed. He'd play along!
Colin did his best bow before Miss Clair Fernandez, just as he'd done for Don and Shia and Charlie when they first saw the boats. For a moment, Colin's face seemed troubled. Clair's game had brought up old memories and old sorrows for Colin. He knew in his heart those sorrows would only deepen into the future.
Then the moment passed. What mattered at this moment was here and now. Here and now were Clair and Colin. His heart became light again! He would hang on to Clair for ever. Or die trying!
And then Colin reckoned he'd probably become a ghost and wander Hogwarts forever howling for Clair! He laughed as he lightly hopped into the boat, Greebo following, making it a point to steer clear of water girl. "My name is Colin! Er. McCoire!" He sat down opposite Clair. "And me and me brother Liam, well, we're destined for Ravenclaw! What about you Clair? Sorry about yer dress lassie! I'd dry it off with magic, but I'm just a ickle firstie!"
Colin winked at Clair and got out his wand from its sheath up his right sleeve. "Do ye trust me, Clair?" Colin deftly whirled his wand in a tight swirl, saying "Aer Calidus." He thought back to everything his girlfriend had done for him. The least he could do was dry off her ridiculously soaked dress!

Colin's got his wand in its sheath strapped to his right arm. He's also got a variety of useful things in his pockets: a hagstone, some choco, a length of thick string with an old brass ring tied to it, a bit of parchment and pencil, and a few other curiosities.

Bad decisions made in the spur of passion. Both of them wanted to help out, which is such a noble thing to do. But there are problems.
One, she couldn't swim and here they are, on the lake, on a boat and two, this is Zach's first time rowing a boat which could make this trip even more dangerous. She didn't really fight him earlier when he said he wanted to row the boat. His enthusiasm to try it was blinding and Raizel can relate to that feeling. Trying new things and such so she just let him be. She would be lying if she said she wasn't worried when she heard him say this was his first time rowing. "Ahahaha, lovely but okay. This will turn out to be such an experience." She responded with a nervous grin on her face, holding on both sides of the boat with her wand still in her hand of course. Rest assured he says… oh well.
It was rather dark and she is surprised to see that Zach at least knows where they are going through the darkness. "Would you like some light?" She asked as Zach wouldn't be able to cast anything as he rows. Lumos should do the trick but… what about a stronger version of it? Right, she knows that spell and while it would be a lot better to use a spell that she's used to, she wants to try something out as well and whenever she finds the opportunity to do so then she will.
Steady, she made the gesture to attempt to cast Lumos Duo and try to give some light around them. Who knows, perhaps that'll help them see what is happening in those waters. Then again, it might just attract danger to them. Fun.

Lanterns and Boat Rides
Interacting with @Eun-ji Lee Hunt, @Piérre Marchonné. and @Marietta Griffis
As his spell successfully split, Pericles allowed himself a momentary sense of achievement. His thoughts wandered somewhere kinder as he tried to ignore the biting cold and immense danger: the first time this particular spell had been used on him. He remembered diving with his father, albeit blurrily, many wears ago in the English channel. He wasn't afraid of anything at the time, not while hand-in-hand with dad. His breathing was measured though his pace was quick, and as they neared the boat, he gestured towards the rising bubbles with a barked "There." Down they dove, soon subjected to the eerie sight of two bodies sinking into the aptly named Black Lake.
Piérre and his companion were illuminated by the moon and abundance of floating lanterns, light trickling through the water, but the light only reached so far. If they didn't act quickly, they would be swallowed up by the dark depths. Here, he could finally get a good look at their attackers, too. "Grindylows," he hissed in grim realization. Eun-ji's sound advice was a welcome reminder. When Pericles had dealt with fishing students from the lake back in his prefect days, they were usually already unconscious, or could swim to shore and only needed to be dried off. It was better to hear how to save a drowning person, than to learn how to go about it the hard way. He answered with a tense albeit grateful "Right," their voices sounding strange underwater. Seeing the Jester simply float, even once freed from the grindylow, he quickly came to the same chilling realization as her: Pi couldn't swim.
Here they were facing harsh elements, murderous monsters, and an imminent threat to student lives. But he had survived many similar disasters like these over the course of his time at Hogwarts. This past year in particular had focused heavily on duelling, and why had he invested in the sport in the first place, if not to prepare himself for the future? Whether that was a future as an auror was unclear these days. But he had taught himself to battle under pressure, and with Eun-Ji nearby, he had the priceless perk of fighting alongside a teammate. Duellists were known for their unspoken synergy on the stage, and as they split their targets to tackle the situation strategically, Pericles could feel familiar instincts kicking in. In fact, with a partner here, he wouldn't have to take on all the pressure. He could afford to take a risk, and decided another spell-spread was worth trying. It would be a chancy maneuver to strain his will so soon after the first split. Still, if he pulled it off, it would be well worth it. The eagle did his best to breathe and hone his willpower, incanting again: "Aspira!"

Diving into the water thereafter, I began to dolphin kick and used a broad breast-stroking pattern with my arms to obtain depth. My eyes were peeled for anything in the murky deep, any sign of life or struggles that were causing the natural flora of the Great Lake to become so stirred and confused.
It didn’t take long to sense water currents and observe the way that said currents were stirring to discover that there was movement not far away from where I was. Indeed as I pushed through the worst of the topical growths and algae, there was movement sinking down and deep; uncontrolled movement.
”Great… just great…” I growled through my wand as I kicked harder, trying to gain speed and to both follow and match depth. I had to gather speed; a sudden and surprise attack would be able to serve my purposes extremely well in this instance and I had to strike when the iron was hot.
The nearer I drew, the more I realized the situation that was unfolding before me. A young girl had been snatched by something dragging her down… down too deep, so deep that my ears were already popping due to the pressure we were already under [4 meters converted to feet is close to 13 feet or so, which is a bit deeper than a safety standard diving pool’s deep end]. If we went down too far things could get complicated between the pressure and the fact that while I was a swimmer I was not a diver. Still I was catching up. I had to gain on them before I could act.
And gain on them I did, and with a final kick I was ready to at least try my hand at giving the entrapped girl a chance at freedom. She was boldly fighting against the creature, but it had truly gotten a good grip on her it seemed. Well… we would see how long it would last against two people fighting it at once, wouldn’t we?
With a lashing out of my broad hand that knifed through the water, I snatched for the weedy creature and then grimaced as I realized I was looking into the eyes of a distasteful looking grindylow; the uglier cousins to a merperson indeed. Narrowing my eyes I growled to it in the only language I could commune with it in. I was not a linguist. “What do you think you’re trying to do to her!?” I demanded, a corner of my lip pinning itself into a decided snarl. “This isn’t Hexwizard, and she most certainly isn’t a snack for the likes of you!”
My voice was slightly garbled between being in the water and trying to talk through the wand gripped in my teeth, but I tried to speak as clearly as possible to explain my intentions. I made direct eye contact with the girl as I maneuvered for the best place to strike in the surroundings. No errors could be made here, as it was before. I had so little time, and I had to make sure I made the most of the time I did have. “When you get loose, get to the surface and swim as hard as you can to the shore; people are waiting there and there are older years above that may be able to cast the bubblehead charm on you. Don’t come back for me, don’t make yourself a person I have to save again. I can handle myself.” All of this was said with an edge of teeth to it, a deep and rumbling growl deep in my chest as I began to feel the heat of battle even in the frigid depths. Smears of red began to fog the edges of my sight and were distorted by the sheen of the magic separating my respiration from the rest of the hostile environment around me, the sound of blood pounded in my ears and my muscles tightened with what felt like liquid steel.
“Act with me on three. One. Two…” My mettle increased as I found the opening that I was going to take in an attempt to batter this creature off of the girl with the swimming force of a rampaging bull. My eyes flashed with blue fire as I announced the final number. “THREE!”
In a twinkling, I dove for the sea-weedy creature and went for the largest target that I could latch onto–head, body, arms, tentacles–in order to bodyslam and fix my hands upon its form in such a way to allow me to wrenched as hard as I could, to twist my body into a corkscrew away from its captive’s body so as to rip the grindylow’s arms away from the girl with a violence unprecedented. I didn’t care if I could dislocate the being’s arms with the action. Truth be told, this was part of the goal. I would have my way with this creature whether it liked it or not. This was only the start. Dividing her from it was the first step in the sequence of my incoming wrath. My teeth left slight indents in the white and black-grained wood of my wand with the force of my pressure there and the tension everywhere else in my body. This creature wanted a piece of me? Wanted a piece of an innocent?
They would quickly have their karma for attempting such a thing with myself on guard. There was the noise of clashing in my head, of fog that carried upon it scents of rust and blood and bone; of steel tempered and gangrene… and I in the center of it all, meting out and accepting into myself these vices, the brilliance of violence in its terrible splendor all.

Landon kept flailing as he felt himself being tugged deeper and deeper into the water. He was frantic, kicking and squirming as much as he was able to do. He kept using his free leg to kick down at the Grindylow that was gripping his ankle, but it wasn't working. He wasn't going to get away. Landon felt a massive spike of fear, sending shivers down his spine. What if he couldn't get away? What if he drowned here, at only twelve years old? He was terrified. In a moment like this, he could understand why his twin sister was petrified of water. She couldn't swim. Right now, Landon was wishing he had never gotten on that stupid boat.
His chest tightened as he started to struggle to hold his breath any longer. He felt lightheaded, not a good feeling when one was underneath the water and only going to sink deeper. He helplessly kept kicking, though he was starting to feel weak. Landon couldn't keep his mouth closed any longer and let out a helpless sound as he struggled to keep himself from drowning. Water filled his mouth and he started to flail more as he realized he was going to drown and nothing was going to stop it. He was helpless and he couldn't hold his breath any longer.

The ghostly hand passed through Piérre’s own and the boy found himself choking on his own bubbles again as a pain rippled through the left side of his mind again; a sensation like that of having a pick driven through the brain, a pounding that was repetitive and consistently tempoed so as to allow the recipient of the blow to predict when the next flash of pain would manifest itself. Throwing both hands through the apparition, he willed himself to force the thing to make itself physical for him, to make it able to respond to his pain and to do something to end it for him in that moment. ‘ Per favore, portami via di qui, chiunque tu sia. Perche ' mi stai facendo questo? Perché stai causando queste cose? Stai causando queste cose? Please get me out of here, whoever you are. Why are you doing this to me? Why are you causing these things? Are you causing these things?’ As if he were some sort of Legilimens that would be able to project these thoughts onto the mind of this thing… if it had a mind to begin with.
Still it shimmered through another two streaks of red light that pierced through the glimmering depths, with the shadows of it so pronounced and crimson when compared to the flesh-pink highlights of the inscrutable white of its form. Its hand did not waver from where it was, just a finger’s stretch away from the place that Piérre currently found himself. With a kick of his foot he managed to bash whatever it was that had once held him captive, simply hovering in the place where he had freed himself with only a slight drift to his momentum. At least he wasn’t being dragged down any farther, at least not by his own control… and yet this thing was still here, reaching for him just as much as he was reaching for it. The cold of winter pierced through his skin, pricked into his veins and sank deep into his bones, turning calcifications to frost and warmth to numbness as it no longer hurt to be without air. The lightness that came with the feeling of dark closing in about, the silvery beacon’s hand always extended and never wavering. So familiar, so gentle, and yet so… trapped.
It hurt, the hollowness… the lack of breath in him, the dwindling ability to even so much as float as his jade eyes glanced about in the cold and the swirling tides. There was movement all around. There was the deep sounds of movement, of the creaking and the sonic sounds travelling through water medium that were amplified by nature of the state of matter it transferred itself by. So many movements, either of bodies or of things. How many were like him in this moment? And did others witness this phantasm or only he in this state of delusion?
And there was another blur of white, but this one had a more defined human shape compared to this. Another phantasm? Were there this many coming for him at this time? All at once. The cloak grew heavy about his throat in tandem with satchel about shoulders, though he was fighting it enough to stay where he was for the time being. Squinting, forcing himself to recognize what it was that was drawing close, turning towards it sluggishly and extending an arm to it in turn as if perhaps it would save him instead of this being that Watched but did not or perhaps could not do anything to help him in this place and time.
Perhaps for it was not the right time.
No, there were bubbles from the one drawing close: breath. Someone living.
Piérre’s lips parted as he dared to hope, that the name in his mind would become manifest as he wordlessly and airlessly (for indeed there was none left for him to give by this time) mouthed the name; ‘Pericles?’
His head turned, trying to find the girl that he had been drug down with, only to find that her silhouette had vanished from where it had formerly been. No longer there, though that silver being still seemed to remain close. Was she further down? Down below and further than he could see?
He had to get to her. He had to get to her right away. Did Pericles see what it was he was trying to do? Did this thing realize what he was trying to do? And what of the girl's cat?! Oh my goodness, Piérre had not even given mind to the fact that she had brought a cat with them on the boat!
Floundering as best he could, the boy actually wanted to try and sink himself lower into the depths, to find the girl (or her cat), and to at least make sure that she was in his sights. Maybe if he could get close enough he would be able to get one or both of them to the surface with a desperate push or something... He tried to make slow eye contact with Peri in the thrashing: 'Please trust me, I'm trying...' Indeed, in those moments as his muscles began to cease aerobic respiration and turned instead to anaerobic. 'trying to do... something...'
If he could get himself close enough to the girl, close enough to reach with an arm, Piérre would try to grab onto her and lock down with his lactic-acidly tightening limbs. Not really sure what he was going to do as soon as he did that much, but maybe Peri or the other girl nearby did... hopefully. If they didn't...
The silvery silhouette of the Watcher seemed ever present and only boldening in his mind's eye as the world was growing darker around him. Piérre's eye couldn't help but drift back to it, seemingly unfocused and staring into nowhere as his gaze pierced it. 'Perche ' sei qui?.. Why are you here...?'

Lanterns and Boat Rides

Alicia looked around the ball, where the lanterns and boat rides were. It was very nice and beautiful. A lot of people were all ready there and Alicia decided to ask a random person to go on a boat ride with her . But first, she wanted to make a lantern. She walked over and looked at the supplies. There was a boy standing close making one and Alicia thought he was quite cute. Getting back to her work, she made the lantern and made it quite slowly because she didn’t want to leave. She was quite nervous around boys (she didn’t know why they just made her nervous) but for some reason with everyone around her she didn’t feel as nervous as she did . Taking a breath, Alicia smiled at a couple people close to her and finished her lantern. She walked a few paces away and lit the lantern watching it float away with the others. It was beautiful, the lights against the deep dark sky. It was absolutely breathtaking and amazing. She didn’t see it very often at Durmstrang because not a lot of people have balls there at all. Which sucked. Alicia pushed her blonde hair behind her ear and kept watching

Lanterns and Boat Rides
Making lanterns, hopping in a boat with Charlie and traveling over to the commotion.
The two went right on in to the second part of the ball and Botan's eye was stuck on the lantern making station. He usually wasn't in to that sort of thing, but today he just wanted to check it out. He must have been staring at it long enough, that Charlie noticed, and asked it he wanted to make one. "Uh, Yes. Yes I would." He replied as they made their way over to the station.
botan selected a cylinder lantern, and began decorating it. He used ink but quickly switched to acrylic paint because it looked much easier to control. Botan immediately regretted that and went for the markers that were sitting on the table. he did a light background and wrote one of his favorite quotes on it- kindness is more important than you think. The quote didn't seem like something he might like, especially because of his dark vibe, but he did. He woul.d have kept adding more little dots and splotches, but Charlie was done, so they made there way over to the boats.

Botan followed Charlie into the boat she had chosen, and he placed the two lanterns down at his feet. He had been forced to sit in the rowers seat, so he quickly and quietly rolled up his sleeves. Just before he was about to ask Charlie where she wanted to go, she spoke. She had seen something not good happening and wanted to help. Botan didn't blame her. He rowed as fast as he could, but was disappointed in the the slow speed they were going at. Botan noticed the tight grip Charlie had on her wand, so he rowed and rowed faster, trying to get her there sooner, so she could maybe, just maybe help.
