Closed Fall Ball 2023 Lanterns and Boat Rides

Daniel walked down the stairs towards the Great Lake alongside Lorelai. While he was unsuccessful (how bizarre) in scoring her as his date, he was still glad to have someone familiar to go with. Arriving on the grounds just yesterday was jarring and it didn't help that his English was excessively poor. He did, however, enjoy the professor's tunes on the way to the cabin. What was his name again? Browne?

Nonetheless, they caught sight of the ball with all the hanging lanterns and small crowds starting to gather. He patted down his red suit again. Perhaps they had arrived too early and people were still getting ready. Oh well, it meant more food to enjoy while it still lasted.

When he arrived, he saw a student already there making and releasing their lantern. Daniel raised an eyebrow. Shouldn't they have waited for everyone else to arrive? It would've looked much cooler.

He paced around the place and looked at the materials on hand. Paintbrushes, paints, and pre-made lanterns. Well, the committee certainly accommodated for the whole student body. He didn't even know how to make one.

Again, it was too early to start making and releasing the lanterns, so Daniel stood and looked out to the lake. He hoped people would arrive soon or he might just go have a look at the food.

Another Ball on a Friday night. AngelFyre would have been somewhat annoyed by this but she had a secret weapon she had not had last time, and that was her Comb of Vanity she had been awarded by Sir Merlin III during summer camp. Sir Merlin was a niffler, but not just any niffler, no siree. He was the cat burglar of nifflers; the niffler equivalent of those pigs trained in France who sniff out spectacularly pricey truffles. He was, in short, fast with his five finger (or however many digits nifflers have on a front paw) discount.

AngelFyre smiled as she remembered how quick he had been searching her person before searching the lots on the field of treasure. As she remembered, she was thankful to have had the foresight, and the schooling to know, to take ALL of her jewelry off... including her love locket from Simon and her claddagh ring. But while she was standing near the staging area for the evening's festivities, somewhat near the entrance to the banquet, but way off to the left, in an area more easily accessible to the Lantern Making and Boat Rides, she anxiously waited for Simon. Just thinking about her claddagh ring seconds before had her subconsciously turning it round and round on her finger. Hogwarts' Balls held a special place in her heart, especially the spring balls, because it was the night of the Mid-Spring Celebration Ball a year and a half ago that the two became a 'them'.

But for this evening's Fall Ball, AngelFyre wanted Simon to first see her in her dress outside and not in the Common Room. Out here it would stand out to its best advantage in the the sunset. In the Hufflepuff Common Room, it would simply blend in with all the yellows and warm hues. Yes, out here, it would be a sight to behold. And he deserved nothing less.

She smiled and greeted friends and acquaintances as they passed her and made their way toward the banquet area and out towards the dance floor near the Great Lake. Everyone looked fabulous, but none of them were her dapper dhampir. Where was he? She knew she was very early and Simon was not late, but, honestly, she just wanted to be with him. It was going to be a spectacular evening. There was starting to be a good deal of chatter coming from the direction of the Great Lake and she could hear the music. There would be dancing. There would be food and drink, likely to be ignored for obvious reasons by the two of them, but best of all, there would be her soulmate.

She looked down at her wrist and saw her 'Thinking of You Right Now' bracelet. Hers was brown and was patterned after the sun. Simon's bracelet was black and the crystal was patterned after the moon. She knew very well even as she stood there pressing hers, it was not going to light up on his wrist because of the magic interference, but more than anxious to see him, she kept pressing away anyway.

Maybe he would just feel her thinking of him.

Mari was very excited for the ball, it was the first event she had attended at Hogwarts, and it took her days to choose the clothes to go to, and the accessories, she was wearing a long green dress that when she saw it, it would have been love at first sight. , She also wore a necklace inside her dress with a treble clef, a silver bracelet, and a ring with purple details, and moon and sun earrings, her shoes had a slight height, were green, and her hairstyle was probably the easiest part of deciding!

She was heading to the big lake, slowly appreciating the people and what they wore, they were stunning too, Mari had not yet seen her best friend Aries Scythe, who was going to the dance with her and was also eager to see how she was doing. . , it was late afternoon, almost night, the sunset was beautiful, Mari had arrived about 2 minutes early, as it took a while to get ready but she didn't want to be late for her first dance.

Mari had already arrived, there were already some people in the lighting section, which was where Mari and Aries had agreed to meet, she sat on a bench there, and confirmed that she had everything she had brought in her bag, she had brought a little something for her best friend, and she didn't want to lose it at all, because it was the first thing she bought, well before buying everything for herself and for the prom, the accessory dresses...she really thought Aries would like it, but she was still a little worried that it wouldn't happen.

She was talking to some people who were friends of Mari and were also waiting for the meeting, until Mari decided to get up and go for a walk, see how the dance itself was going, and it was incredible, they were already preparing things. even writing on the lamp and the boat trips, everything was beautiful, and Mari continued waiting for her best friend, while lifting her dress a little so as not to trip in the middle of things, wouldn't it be pretty if that happened!

Mari began to see her dress in the light of the sunset, it was surprisingly even more beautiful, and Mari twirled once in it giving a smile to herself.

Estelle had had so much fun preparing for the ball. The beautiful atmosphere and Disney-like theme had really made the event special and Es, never being one to turn down an opportunity to help out, was so glad that she was a part of making the ball happen. Estelle had decided to enjoy the lantern making and boat rides as she was a huge Disney fan and didn't want to miss those moments where the lanterns were released, not to mention the excitement of sharing this with one of her very best friends, Delilah. Although they had only known each other for a month, they were already thick as thieves. But first, Es needed to get ready. The moment the preparations were finished, Estelle rushed upstairs to do her hair and makeup. She had bought a beautiful pink tulle dress with off the shoulder puffy sleeves that made her feel like an actual princess as well as some adorable pale pink heels with little bows on. She put them on then added extensions to her hair, in a wavy blonde style. In her hair she loosely braided a few strands around her head to hide the attachments for the extensions, then added a pink leaf pin. Finally, she finished the look with a soft gold autumn leaf necklace with auburn beads and gorgeous dangly earrings with glass beads that looked like teardrops. Estelle looked at herself in the mirror and squealed. She was so excited. She made her way down the stairs to wait for Delilah by the entrance to the Great Hall. She hoped they could make their entrance together.

ARIES WAS DELIGHTED to have arrived here, with her tight fit bold red dress. her best friend mari was waiting on a bench, as reese had appeared quite late. oh! im so sorry, i had a quick interaction with a young girl who wouldnt come. i did convince her however, but "no partner. no fun." she had said. she'll come next time i hope. but really, in the meantime aries and mari had to get in a boat and watch lanterns. she ran off to go find two bright golden ones, and came back. here! she muttered gasping for air. i brought a paintbrush. im dedicating this to our friendship., she said while writing down a short poem about liv and rie's relationship. she loved every moment together, and this could be the best of them all. while waiting for creative ideas to flow, she decided to enjoy the scenery and her surroundings. on their wooden boat which crackled and swayed through the lake. everything glimmered with the sunlight, even her shiny silver purse, and her glossy modern nails. but her hair was the best part, two thick loose french braids, that wouldn't listen to aries, with her style of a choppy haircut. mari wore a long green one, that looked just a as gorgeous. aint it perfect? but still, what else is there to do at such a wonderful breezy night? rie wondered to herself sighing at the beauty. a close friend estelle had planned this, so aries made a quick mental note to thank her. here. she spoke calmly and dreamily. let it go, alright? in three. two. one! she let the lantern go, like mari did as well. the pretty lights fluttered in the sky like fireflies. reese was grateful mari forced her here. she smiled and went back to talking with mari. that was drop-dead gorgeous! we have ti do it again. but really, in the meantime we might as well converse while this peaceful boat rocks us. its more than amazing out here!

Valentin Schnell returned to the Great Lake – the most magical place on Earth for him – hoping to find again the only one who’d been fast enough to capture the white lightning, let alone right enough to keep him. Gazing into the moonlight reflecting off the shifting dark water, Valentin’s mind wasn’t on the ball etiquette that had been drilled into him for years on end. All those lessons others had tried to school the boy on in conducting romance “properly”… well, Val could have thrown them all down into the farthest reaches of the lake bottom. Nay, tonight was far too sacred to breathe the same air as such formulaic scripts that might contaminate even a second with his first ever boyfriend. Everything had to come genuinely of his own will now, courteous or not. For this reason, Valentin hadn’t offered to pick his date up by broom as he’d done for his friend Maila last time. Indeed, contrary to his lifelong habit of going everywhere accompanied by a Silver Arrow, Valentin’s famous lightning-scarred broom was nowhere to be found. All he did was stand at the water’s edge as if he was listening for something.

Valentin came wearing a white and dark burgundy set of Tatar ethnic attire adorned with wheat sprig florettes, paired with fragrant leather boots worn atop black pant legs as per tradition (although strangely lacking a hat). Still, Durmstrang’s champion had not intentionally come with the hope of expressing his heritage at the ball tonight. Rather, he’d made the decision on an impulse, deep down wanting to dress as if he were bringing his home with him when, in reality, he knew he was the one coming home regardless of the foreign soil beneath him.
