You cannot just claim to have destroyed the common room, that would imply that no one stopped you, when simply no one had the chance when it happened off screen. Mass destruction would also be pretty difficult to hide, so that would make the prefects and profs pretty incompetent for not having stopped you. So no, you cannot just claim that.
