Camp 2023 Summer Duels, Game 1: Ravenclaw vs Slytherin

"Can you find a better pick up line than an insult to my cat?"

“ I’ll tell you another one when it comes to mind “ he insisted with a tease, quite surprised he’d even indulge in his little jokes. Did he not remember that Hanako poured pumpkin juice all over him when they were younger? Well, whatever, as long as Hanako had his fun.

Unbeknownst to him, that would’ve been the last for now. Bad luck another another, perhaps a bit too distracted at how ALL THE RAVENCLAWS SENT ABOUT TWO SPELLS TO EACH OF THE SLYTHERINS. Already he was conducting the more puke-inducing cliche pick up lines to use on the Ravenclaws. For he was unable to hit them with any spells for now.

"Looking good down there, Hanako," He sent her a subtle quizzical look. Down? Oh, thank goodness he wasn’t hit with whatever spell that hit both her and Winters. (Hanako is somewhat unaware of the limbo spell since it's a 6th year spell). He would’ve brushed his hair back if the winds around him weren’t already doing a good job at that. Even if she was jesting, Hanako always welcomed anything to boost his ego. “ I always knew I looked good in every angle. Glad you finally acknowledge the fact, Captain.” He managed to say through the pink feathers that almost got in his mouth. With all his might, he took the hot pink boa and wrapped it around his shoulders loosely instead. He half thought the boa was going to fly straight into a spectators face. Oh- oh no now he was kinda tempted.

Winters seemed less than happy about her situation and Hanako almost felt bad for her. Well, almost.

"What, you nervous?” he heard Vanes asked. Hanako let out a mock snicker. “ Ah well, that happens when I have attractive guys like you watching my every move. Maybe close your eyes for a second or two, hm?” Y,k so he can tackle a few Ravenclaws or trip them with a hot pink feather boa when Vanes isn’t looking.

In the tiny break after all of the spells hit, Delilah cracked her knuckles with a smirk and looked to her teammates. 6 spells in a few seconds, boy Delilah loved this format already, 3v3 was chaos and amazing, she hoped she would have more chances to experience this in the future. She didn't know how she didn't notice it before but the slytherins had....feather boas? What was that about?

"Ventus!"
The spell was among his favorites for duelling. Flipendo was an informal, punchy burst of magic, but conjuring a gale of wind took more finesse. Pericles could feel the spell split at the end of his wand, watching the twin gusts rocket across the piste and join the mad cacophony of his teammates' casts. Their own evasions were swift, their aim precise, a promising way to kick off the match.

While her teammates relied on the tried and true Ventus, her contribution came as a novel mist that enveloped the opposing side in golden haze. Its outward beauty contrast with its disconcerting effects; a trait which Phaedra had become well-acquainted and held in considerable esteem. It took tremendous effort to remain deadpan at the conversation between moderator and the male Slytherin, but a quick check on her team's status otherwise denoted a near-perfect opening. They just had to keep the pressure.

The next round commenced and the duellists had to adapt to their new situations, some of them more difficult to wrap their mind around then others. Something else that continued was Hanako's idea to continue flirting with Alan. At least he had learned to leave Tiger out of this wish would already give him better chances in Alan's book. "Well, I wouldn't wanna miss watching you succeed now, would I?" he shot back with a grin and see there, Hanako actually succeeded in Phaedra's way, which Bridget paired well with a successful water spell. Pei instead chose a different approach and bodybound Delilah, who should feel her muscles locking up painfully just after she sent the Blasting curse towards the vipers. And blast them it did, it wouldn't surprise Alan if bits of shrapnel actually damaged the surrounding area with how intense the explosions across the ground were. Phaedra was able to aid her trio by tripping both Pei and Bridget (magically of course), which Pericles like Del had made use of by sending Flipendos at the Slytherin students. A whole lot of damage to be sent around and Alan was once more reminded how terrifying the spreading of spells could be if utilized to the best capabilities. Perhaps this duel would end sooner rather than later, which was a shame with how much fun his conversation with Hanako seemed to be right now.

[Spectator Thread: Morning]

Four spells, four hits, all in the first few moments of the match. Pericles pulled no punches in an effort to keep up with his seventh-year peers, driven by loyalty to his team, honed by the pressure of a massive audience. That Flipendo split and cracked the air like a pair of whips. On impact, an expression of intense concentration faded for contentment. It was gone just as quickly once Del struck the stage. In the same instant, the other opposing casters turned their aim on Phae. Either it was his turn next, or they were steadily working to single him out, and Pericles couldn't say which approach he liked less. The worried side-eyes he'd cast towards his allies resumed squinting across the piste in preparation, wand raised and legs tense.

When Vanes said he wished to see Hanako suceed a spell instead, perhaps it did manage to boost his confidence a tad bit. Although his luck was not that great with dodging he surprisingly managed to hit someone. His spell paired nicelt with bridget’s nice aim. He didnt have time to celebrate, sadly. Not with the flipendos that was aimed at him. “ Really?” He groaned as he directed his attention towards the Ravenclaws that aimed at him. Though sadly not having much energy for anything more than that

Trying to wrap her head around the mechanics of feeling like she was upside-down, but not really being upside-down, was enough of a trip. And then she had to contend with, well, actually being tripped, and if she was sure she was going to have a headache before it was actually happening now. She was still struggling to regain a sense of direction when she was hit by the force of an explosion, heat and force disrupting her own little bubble. Ow.

As bad as it was for her, it would only be worse for Hanako, who was hit with the same explosion, as well as a Flipendo, and was generally starting to look awful. He was saying incredibly little after that, which was maybe the biggest red flag, and it was a well-known fact that many harsh hits was going to wear down anyone. "Hang in there," she said, but the corners of her mouth were pulling into a frown.

It didn't happen often, but every now and then, there were moments of certainty that had nothing to do with confidence. Opeila cast a spell in the direction of Delilah and didn't need to look to know that it had hit, which was confirmed when the seventh year fell over, arms and legs locked firmly together.

The next moment something knocked her clean off her feet, as if she had tripped without actually walking anywhere, and finally a knockback jinx threw her backwards to the ground.
Cursing silently, Opeila would get back to her feet, already regretting the darn feather boa that kept getting in the way. Silly, impractical accessory...

Del hated being petrificus totalus-ed but maybe it was a good thing, she did need a bit of a break mentally after kicking the slytherins butts with 2 spell spread spells on the bounce. This did feel a little bit like an unfair duel but Delilah couldn't complain in the moment, there would be more to discuss on balancing with the captains another time, for now Del could just enjoy the spoils in her currently paralysed form.
