Broom racing was… harder than expected. To the casual observer, it appeared as simple as zooming and dodging. Hell, Aurora knew that it was a tough job but not this tough. Maybe she had overestimated her ability. Sure, she evaded stuff, but her strength was the equivalent of a biscuit dunked in a tea for too long. Soggy and feeble.

As her teammates and opposing team members steadily came back into view Adlai gripped her wand a second time. This time she knew she would successfully hit her target. Taking a deep breathe she looked at Ari and uttered the words of a spell, swinging her wand in the motions necessary to cast it. However, despite her confidence the spell did not reach its mark. Sighing she simply continued on to her best ability.

Sometimes, things just didn't work out. But messing up a simple ascension charm? Yeah, that stung pretty severely. George blamed that girl on the other team - Bloom - for being a distraction. There was something about her smug aura that just made her infuriating - so much so that it was difficult to concentrate on his other targets in the race. How could he mess up such a basic spell?! Grrr... George gritted his teeth and actually, physically growled. He'd show them what he was made of, one way or another...

This. Was. Bad.
As if getting caught in the fog (physically and mentally) wasn't damning enough, Ari was now locked within the grasp of a very aggressive giant squid. It took his breath away at first, but he was able to squirm some air back into his lungs after a struggle. But this struggle was nowhere near close to freedom. He would just have to keep fighting the squid until it had no choice but to let go of him. Which would be....soon? Hopefully soon.

She had to do at least something. Flying wasn't an option, since she would just enter squid territory and get caught. Maybe she could help her fellow badgers somehow. Or maybe not. It was better than flying into the squid though, since the odds of her evading or escaping it were kind of low. She glanced at the squid, now holding four racers on each of its arms or whatever those were. Sophie doubted the squid could hold more. Maybe she could just fly past the squid without worry.

The squid had no choice but to leave the squirming teenage boy be, and he carried on his way before the possibility of getting plucked out of the air struck again. And it did strike again, but Ari was ready this time. He managed to evade the squid and save himself from a second unfortunate encounter, a small victory that made him whoop for joy. He and Simon, a Hufflepuff he'd grown to know over time, were leading the pack. Would this lead last?

How embarrassing was this to be grabbed by the same giant squid in the same unit. She looked forward and saw that she wasn't alone. She saw in the unit ahead that Bubba was also caught by the squid. "This is ridiculous!" she screamed in his direction, hating the fact that two of their players were stuck with the squid. "Any bright ideas?" she asked, trying to get out of the creature's grasp.

A Hufflepuff win or a Hufflepuff loss - this particular race was going to be one of the most memorable races of his career. Crazy how he had spent all those many hours of oh so many days just to see Herman, the giant Squid, and there he was face to face with him - er, tenacle to body. It was close enough!

Still, Simon would have to soak in that feeling a little later because right now it was the broom race that had his focus. Eyes on the prize and show those birds that they knew little when it came to flying!
