Not soon after the race was underway. Gray and the rest of the team shot off well and slung attacks at the opponents who managed to get ahead for now. Gray slowly shook his head and focused on trying to slow them down somehow. They couldn’t do the same mistakes like last time, else they’d face another year of embarrassment to the great Slytherin house

Usually the beginning of the race brought on a euphoric feeling—a few moments where Della was flying without a care in the world, a few moments before she thought about the other racers and what they were doing. But today, she was instantly bombarded by a stream of flowing green sparks, before plunging into a cool fog. It took a few moments for her vision to return—but she was still going the right way at least. That was a good sign.

----Oh! Swimming again! And the water's cold just like her last match. Vale coughed up some water and hurried to drain the water from her braids. And very much like last time, she felt the urge to just start bathing herself. But Vale knew better, the last thing she wanted was to explain to her captains why she decided to just go swimming for the rest of the race. Now, where was her broom?

Wyatt saw various lights and projectiles pass him and Percival as they flew up, and was extremely grateful for this bit of the plan. He was a little nervous, being so high up, but he was glad his and Percival's height kept them from getting hit with those spells. Wyatt heard a splash and turned his head to find Vale doggy paddling under the waterfall. He briefly thought that if it was allowed, Vale would have them all incendio'd and aflame. If only the rules allowed for arson...

Looking to return the favor of Percival and Wyatt, Xailah readied her own wand, slipping it out of the hilt sleeping at her waist with one fluid swoop. Percival was the first to fall in her crosshairs as she slowed her broom to a steady hover. With chestnut wood aimed and steadied, she'd command a successful jinx- only to witness it fizzle out into the passing horizon as her target was sent flying upwards by a teammate. The metamorph smirked, a cattish curl taking one side of her mouth. A clever move from the Slytherins, she had to admit, but they were taking a gamble.

A gamble they could not afford to lose.

Unfortunately (or, well, fortunately), this point in the race was only a taste of what was to come; as the snakes succumbed to the curse of having slippery hands beneath waterfalls, and not heeding the outcomes of races long past. They were determined to blind Hugh, and it was this persistence that made Xailah release a long rumbling chuckle, reminiscent of a slumbering dragon. They hadn't learned had they? A blindfold was nothing to a boy like Hugh. The efforts they were making were futile. However, their adamancy was admirable. It was nice to go against a team that was willing to fight for their spot on the leaderboard. But could they keep their willpower up for the duration of the race? Only time would tell.

Keith didn't look back as he knocked a Slytherin off their broom. He continued to fly as fast as he could, he would use what he could to win. He would try this again, this time the his friend Colin, he began to slowly fly closer to the Slytherin, doing what he needed to to win.

"VALE!!! THIS IS NO TIME FOR A SWIM!!!" Colin just caught sight of his fiery mate plunging into the watery depths below as their captain was dislodged by a rocketing lion! Whoa, now this race is ace! he thought. It was like a duel on brooms happening during a quidditch match in an obstacle course! Colin's heart thundered as he zoomed through the fog and the waterfall!

"WOOOOOOOOOO!!! If only I had some soap!" he cried merrily as he was drenched by the cool and refreshing water! One thing Colin never got tired of was a good dunk in chilly and invigorating water! He snatched a quick look over his shoulder --- and up! --- it was cool to see the teams older sneks out for a high altitude flight!

Colin smiled through the spray. On to the next challenge!

The race came to a standstill outside the fog. Up ahead Della could see a large tentacle waving from the water. While most of her was filled with excitement at the sight of giant squid and she wished nothing more than to make contact, the strategic captain part of her knew that flying toward its monstrous arm would put any racer dangerously behind. So putting her love of the squid to the back of her mind, she aimed at the Slytherin, noticing the rest of her team was doing the same. Good. But the snakes had beat them to it—her disarming spelled missed Wyatt as he soared in the air—a position from which he could easily fly over the squid. Not good. Her team would all need to concentrate on their next move if they wanted to win.
