BROOM RACING SLYTHERIN VS GRYFFINDOR SPRING 2023
Hugh eventually looked up from his broom. He had been absent-mindedly listening along the familiar burned in voices mixing in with the shinier ones on the team. Mop had left the band and now two firsties, lil' ones, had crawled into the gap he left behind. Hugh did not pretend he liked it one bit. It wasn't that he was mean or ill-willed towards them. He just had to wait and see how things evolved. Same with the game, he supposed. For a game without balls, it certainly kept rolling fast-forward. It seemed like only yesterday since they had won their last race. And here they were at it again. He continued to mind his own business and chose to focus on scratching dirt from under his fingernails instead. Why did it have to rain so often on racing days? He growled an unimpressed sigh from under his breath as he anticipated soggy socks again. The walk back to the common room was going to be a long one...

It was already proving to be an interesting race. The team of Slytherin choosing not to hesitate when it came to casting spells right off the bat. But Gryffindor seemed to know the spells were coming. Most of them were able to successfully evade the coming spells from Slytherin.
The fog was proving to be a nasty obstacle. An insane amount of racers seemed to be effected by it. A hefty 7 racers, got effected by the fog. This was shocking because it was an easy fog, obviously the rain wasn't helping the vision of the racers as they were trying to maneuver through the dense fog cloud.
As each Slytherin racer came up to the fog, they seemed to be filled with confidence. They would soon have their confidence crushed when they had clouded vision to the fog. It would be a rough couple of round of spell casting for Slytherin racers.UNIT 2 - Easy Fog

Wyatt and Vale did not successfully make it through the fog so for the next round their evasion and accuracy will be halved. Percy and Colin seemed to have suffered the same fate however, it seemed to have effected them more. They will have halved evasion and accuracy for the next 2 rounds.
Gryffindor seems to have suffered a similar fate to Slytherin, the fog proving to be a much more difficult passage than anyone thought. Hugh, Della, and Marina will also have halved evasion and accuracy for 1 round and poor Keith suffers the same fate but for 2 rounds instead.
Though Gryffindor racers didn't cast any spells this round, it would make the next couple of rounds hard for the to do so as well. However, they do have a bit of a lead on the snakes.

It seems that most of the Gryffindor students got the hang of the fog. The only student who seemed to fall victim to it was Marina this time around.
The roaring waterfall seemed be a successful venture for all of the Gryffindor students. Hopefully Slytherin would have a similar fate. Gryffindor ends this round at unit 5, I can't help but be excited to see what will happen next.UNIT 4 - Waterfall

BROOM RACING SLYTHERIN VS GRYFFINDOR SPRING 2023
He noticed things were wrong, right off the bat. His body didn't kick into gear, his broom didn't burst forward with a cloud of leaves in its wake. Hugh had to physically pull himself together, his hand tugging at his collar. Well, that was bad. Generally, in a race, people were supposed to sprint forward and try and one-up one another to be the first to cross a pretty little line at the end of a death course. And here he was staring at nine dots growing smaller and smaller, very fast.
Maybe he was getting old? He could feel the ancient wisdom of a sixteen-year-old bearing down on him every day. Or maybe it had just been Mop's departure from the group? They did sort of start out on this together. Though, he considered the extent of their friendship to be that of 'that one decent person you pick whenever you're forced to be in a group project'. A solid choice at that. And on the topic of solid, Hugh's feet left the ground behind and opted for the air. He was back in the race.

With a focused gaze, June set off. As soon as her broom began to inch forward, she pulled out her wand and aimed it at the silvery-haired Gryffindor racer. "Verdimillious!"
A stream of green sparks (green, how fitting) launched from the tip of her wand and into her opponent's eyes. Satisfied, June sped through the first bit of fog, ready to conquer the rest of the course.

Keith was super nervous for his first game. He barely knew the team, and his broom wasn't the best, but it was cleaned up nice and stuff. He lined up beside his teammates and took a deep breath. Someone asked him something, "Yeah, just a little bit." Keith shook his head and put on a brave face. He took off into the air, not prepared at all, he barely knew any spells, so hopefully he would get through this.

Wyatt was upset his spell didn't hit, but more upset that he couldn't see really anything. At the very least, Percival's spell got Xailah, so the Slytherins were able to mess with the Gryffindors even if only a little bit. Wyatt pressed on, not wanting to shut down in response to the fog, but not exactly confident about continuing either. It would definitely be embarrassing if, of all the things that could happen in a broom race, Wyatt was knocked out by flying headfirst into a tree.

----Vale struggled to see once she came into contact with a dense fog. She could barely register the obstacles that were surrounding her, but Vale knew she had to keep going. She just hoped she was still heading towards the finish line. There was things she is used to be shouted at by her captains, but flying in the opposite direction of where she was supposed to would definetely have her thrown into a patch of chomping cabbages.

"VERDIMILLIOUS!!!" Colin aimed his wand at one of the Gryffindork racers and shouted his spell at the same time June did! "Sparky twins, June! Hopefully one of us at least will hit!"
Colin didn't wait around to find out what the result was. As soon as he fired off his spell, he turned back to the course ahead, and flew straight into the thickest fog ever! As soon as he was swallowed by the mist, the sounds from the cheering students faded somewhat and Colin could only rely on his sense of balance to determine where up and down were.
"I sure hope there're no trees in here!" Memories of smacking into trees the last two races came to mind. "What am I saying!? There are always trees!" Oh well! There was nothing for it but to blast ahead as best he could! "To the finish line or the hospital!!"

This didn’t started…that well! Okay let’s be honest…that didn’t started as glorious as Ying would like to have seen it happening!
The sneks went “spell free” all the way down the road. Such as snakely way of doing things! Why weren’t the lions already waiting for that kind of action? Of course it was natural and kind of obvious.
Ying bit her lip and sent deadly looks at the green flying team, she wished she was able to cast some spells of her own in that moment! Sadly…she had to keep watching her team giving their best with most of them flying ahead the race! “What You tried!! But are still eating our dust!!” She yelled with a cheeky smile. Whatever happens during the race, she would always love that sport.

Keith's response was met with a low chuckle. "It will go away once you are in the air. Just stick with us and you'll do just fine." This was said with some assurance. There was nothing quite like flying fast, and Xailah was certain the cub's nerves would rocket into excitement once he was off the ground. If this kid was nervous, she could only imagine how their new co-captain felt. So small, and already stepping up to fill bigger boots just like her predecessor had; it was clear Fang Hui-Ying had some spunk and plenty of promise.
This generation of first years were certainly something else.
Through the grey drizzle of rain, Xailah nodded along with the new co-captain's pep talk. With Ying's final declaration, that the lions would ring victorious, the metamorph let out a low chuckle, charmed by the younger girl's spark. "Consider it done, Kapitänin*."
Whether or not it was a noteworthy observation, Xailah noticed that only two of the Slytherins took care to acknowledge their opponents (in a way that didn't involve howling and nicknames). Looks were exchanged, but only Wyatt and the blonde Slytherin (hello Wyatt, hello Juju) had returned the same firm nod issued to them by the eldest Gryffindor. The snakes certainly had an interesting mix of personalities on their team. But to be fair, all of the racing teams did.
The race would start well enough. Something would keep Hugh and Keith behind' presumably they had gotten distracted by something. One of the many rainclouds overhead, perhaps. There were a lot of interestingly shaped ones. Xailah didn't think of it as anything to worry about, at the moment. She, Della, and Marina would lead the race, passing through dense fog and chilly downpour of a waterfall. The trio would pass through each with some ease- that was until, Slytherin began enacting their plan.
It took far longer than it should have for Xailah to realize not a single Slytherin was nearby. The section of the track the lioness' flew on was completely void of them. As she noticed, she felt a tingle race down her spine. This was déjà vu. Hufflepuff had done something similar last race- holding back and attacking while their opponents raced onwards. With the snakes absence, she could anticipate what was to come. In an instant, Xailah was animate. She'd veer wildly to the side; evading one spell, only to be directed into the path of another.
She groaned inwardly at the feeling of a sharp pop!, as her kneecaps grated together like chalk on cement, inversing themselves. Shit. She inhaled sharply. Her knuckles bled white beneath her gloves, as she gripped the shaft of her broom for security. A sharp steer to the left would jolt her, her footing on Delta's stirrups thrown-off by the successful attack. She whipped around, and caught glimpse of Percival and Wyatt with their wands extended in her direction. She wasn't sure which one had hit her, but she hoped this wasn't going to be a consistent theme with todays race, like it had been during the last one with Hufflepuff. George Henry hadn't given her a break for well over half the race then. It had been awful. "Let's not make this a habit boys, as I do loathe monotony! I'd hate to have to give you both a piece of my mind later, in the hospital wing." Was that a warning? A threat?
It was very much both of those things. Maybe the snakelets would hear it, maybe they wouldn't.
