CL BROOM RACING - HUFFLEPUFF vs RAVENCLAW - SPRING 2023

The last race of the school year was today, a closing statement on another chapter of Ravenclaw's already complicated story of broom racing. It was also Ari's first race after stepping down from his captain role. He had passed the torch on to Foster, a fellow racer he was honored to fly with. Aurora, the old captain, had also returned as a racer today. It would be her first time flying on the field as a Badass Broom Bird (as Clair dubbed the team).

There was a slight twinge of sadness at not being a captain anymore, but all would work out. He trusted his new captains as well as his teammates. Nothing changed concerning how he viewed them or the sport itself. He was still as happy as ever to be flying with them and finishing up another year at Hogwarts.

"Welcome back, Aurora!" Ari waved back happily with a bright smile. It was good to see her again in all her colorful glory. "I trust you'll serve the team on the flying end just as well as you did on the commanding end."

With that, he fist bumped Bubba, the one-race captain turned racer, flashed a smile to everyone, and mounted his broom to float it over to the starting line. Today would be a good day.

Confusion was the word for it. None of the Ravenclaws had even bothered moving from the starting line, was this some kind of new strategy? She ignored this, and did what she usually did at least once in every race. And she missed. It was quite disappointing she didn't get to see her opponents fall off her broom, but at least she got the satisfaction from the sight of two blindfolded ravens.

Oh the thrill of a broom race never disappointed. The race began and immediately he took off at full speed. Simon could barely remember a time when he didn't go full speed, as that now had been what he practiced on, hour after hour in his free time at Hogwarts. He had become quite proficient at it.

He hoped his fellow badgers were close by. They needed this win and he knew they could do it!

He kept his eyes ahead and when the waterfall came into clear view, he gripped the handle of his broom tightly and braced for impact - but it just wasn't his shining moment. Maybe he was caught under a rather strong rapid but the water toppled him under for a short reprieve from the bright sunshine from above.

Simon got up from underwater and brushed his hand through his hair quickly before retrieving his broom. There was still a race to attend to!

Bubba was... confused. Very confused indeed. He had been on his broom and waiting for the race to start when his thoughts drifted off to Sam. Her long brown hair, her deep, beautiful blue eyes that he'd been lost in so many times. She must be so proud of him, finally starting his first broom race. Clearly, she'd made his mind wander because when he came to his senses the race had already started. Except... he clearly wasn't the only person whose mind had wandered. No one else on his team had moved either. Did everyone get distracted by the thought of their own beautiful significant others?

This was quite a dilly of a pickle they'd gotten themselves into.

From the corner of her eye, she caught the familiar sight of @Bloom Silverton. She sighed softly, wondering if she should say something but... there was nothing to say. Every time she spoke, she found that she was the one getting hurt. The silence was probably safer here. At least, for her own heart.

Oh well. It was not time to think about how her heart had been broken. It was time to fly. Serena waved her wand from the 'go', "Obscuro!" She had her target. Unfortunately, it was not Bloom but targets had been preassigned by the badger captain in this race. She was just doing her job at this point.

With that, she quickly started to speed up, easily navigating through some fog. It was go time, after all. She frowned as she spotted Simon falling not too far away. Could she catch him if she was faster? Maybe...

Perhaps she was not paying attention, or maybe she was but her mind and body connection wasn't there. When the race had started, she did not realize that she was not moving at the time. While her body moved forward, it seemed that her large trunk of a broom did not listen and move with her. Bloom felt slightly frustrated and hit the trunk once more with the calves of her legs and moving forward. She was going to catch up to the Hufflepuff team one way or another.

Showing up and taking off were the only two easy parts of this sport. Anyone could do it if they had the gall. But unlike anyone Adlai had the drive to win. A win would mean anything and everything for her.
And so in an attempt to win Adlai took her right hand off of her broom handle and reached for her wand. As she pulled it out of her pocket her left hand gripped the broom handle firmly.

They had discussed and practiced several spells of which the athletes were allowed to use on one another in an attempt to obscure their opponents path. And she remembered them all quite well.
Casting one of these spells with great reluctance and haste Adlai yelled out the word “Obscuro!” aiming her wand to a figure within her line of sight, Bloom Silverton.

However, to her dismay nothing seemed to happen.

The funny thing was, she went from being all set to someone slapping a blindfold on her face just in a blink of an eye. Aurora was no Satoru Gojo effortlessly strutting around and scaring the living daylights out of folks while blindfolded like a lunatic, not that she knew who that was since she was not in her anime era yet. Perhaps she was not terrifying and fast enough today. Maybe she needed to step up her racing game, maybe add some rocket on her broom. The secondhand embarrassment, considering she was once the captain of the team. Talk about a fall from grace, not that she was graceful to begin with.

"AHHHHH!!!!" She screamed, as if she were in a haunted house. Revenge was definitely on her mind. She was about to unleash a wrath worse than an army of geese on the opposing team.
