Spring Dresses
Valarie had recently received a package from her parents back home in Glasgow. The package was a pale green dress that reminded her of the color of springtime grass. The dress was for the upcoming spring ball, the ball which she would be going with Ciel Saskia, the Hufflepuff first year she had a major crush on. In fact, Valarie had invited Ciel to meet her in the girl’s lavatory to show her the dress she would wear. She had arrived a lot earlier than she told Ciel to expect her but she didn’t mind. She wanted to make sure she didn’t make Ciel wait too long for her to show so she decided to beat her there. She stood in front of the mirror, gazing at her reflection. Her curly hair had been piled up on top of her head, exactly how she planned to wear it for the ball. The pale green dress was a perfect fit and Valarie couldn’t help smile at the sight of herself. She kept listening for a sound to alert her that Ciel was there. While she waited, she brushed loose strands of hair out of her face and pinned them up with the other hairs. Valarie had decided to keep her face clear of any trace of makeup, keeping herself dressed rather plain. Valarie was very excited to see Ciel- Seal, as Valarie called her- to show her how excited she was for their date to the Sprint Ball. She turned to face the door to wait for her.

Spring Dresses
Upon returning to Hogwarts after the two week long break, Ciel was more than excited for the upcoming months. She had the ball to go to, and she also had gone and gotten her ears pierced! Of course they were still healing, but the small studs she had chosen as her earrings for now complimented her blonde hair quite a bit. With the upcoming ball, Ciel knew it was time to go out on a limb and get pierced!
Once Charms had let out, Ciel practically sprinted to her dormitory. Today was a special day, because she was finally going to meet up with Val and show off the outfits they were going to wear to the ball. She had decided to bring a dress and a tuxedo- one her mother had made and the other she borrowed from Will, her older brother.
While the outfits had different vibes, Ciel still wondered which one Val would prefer. Would she want Ciel to wear a more formal tuxedo, or the more casual dress? The dress was pretty much just a white and yellow sun dress, but Ciel thought it suited her well- and the tuxedo was one her brother had worn at some valedictorian ceremony he attended a year ago. He was so smart, Ciel wondered if he had a million of those titles to choose from.
Her feet carried her to the girl's lavatory, and she peeked inside. There, she saw Val, wearing an adorable green dress. The sight stunned Ciel for a moment, before she fully walked into the lavatory, and announced herself.
"Yoohoo, hi Valentine's Day!" She cheered, holding the bags with her outfits in one hand and waving to Val with the other. At first, Ciel contemplated hugging Val, but she thought it might've been too much, and settled for a simple wave instead.
"You look really pretty! That's the dress you're wearing, right?" Ciel motioned to what Val was wearing. "I brought two things; my mom made this dress," she held up one bag, "and my brother let me borrow this tux." Ciel held up the other bag. "Do you have a preference which one I wear? I'll try on both but if you'd prefer me to wear the tux or dress or whatever, I don't mind."

Spring Dresses
Valarie heard the door creak and a wide smile took over her face when Ciel’s face appeared.
“Hi, Seal! It’s good to see you! How are you?” Her words fumbled a bit with the excitement she felt from seeing Ciel. She noticed a glint of something shiny by Ciel’s face.
“Oh did you get your ears pierced? They look awesome!” Valarie still had yet to stop smiling at Ciel. Ciel then motioned to the dress she wore.
“Yes, it is! You like it?” She asked the lovely Hufflepuff. She twirled the fabrics of her dress and grinned even wider than she had been previously. Ciel held up the two bags that she had brought with her into the lavatory. She explained one was a tuxedo of her brother’s and and the other was a dress made by her mother.
“I think they would both be beautiful, especially on you. You should wear whatever you like best!” Valarie’s face turned bright red. She hoped Ciel didn’t find her odd. She stopped to clear her throat before continuing.
“If you want to try them on feel free! I’d love to see them on you but I don’t have a preference on what you wear.” Her face wasn’t as red as it had been but it was still quite pink.

Luckily, Val noticed her earrings. Though it wasn't difficult to spot the small shiny studs, in the waft of Ciel's already bright hair, she was a bit concerned that they would be overshadowed. Maybe she should've chosen a different pair?
"Oh! Yeah! My brother took me over the break. I actually met a girl who's a Hogwarts student there!" Ciel giggled as she remembered her Dion's slightly sour face as he realized he would have to be the one to take her. "My big brother took me; it was kind of nerve-wracking but I'm really happy with the results!"
As Val spoke about the outfits Ciel had brought, she noticed the pink tinge on her cheeks. At first, she wanted to tell Val about it, but she figured she should save the girl some embarrassment. Though, Ciel found it rather cute.
"Okay, I'll go try on the dress first." Ciel slipped into one of the bathroom stalls and changed into the white dress accordingly. Since it was custom made by her mother, the dress fit Ciel very well, making her body look exactly like it did normally- but she was kind of saddened by the lack of muscles on her arms. She should be so much stronger!
Stepping out of the stall, Ciel spun around for Val. "What do you think?" Ciel asked, stopping before she got dizzy. If she got really dizzy and fell- well that'd be super-duper embarrassing! And no way did Ciel want to become an embarrassment before she even got to the dance!

Valarie listen to Ciel explain that her brother had taken her to pierce her ears. She disappeared into a stall to change into the dress. Valarie quickly turned to the mirror and made sure she still looked alright. She looked…happier since Ciel had arrived, which she was. Ciel popped back out of the stall and Valarie flipped around to look at her. She looked absolutely adorable in the dress and Valarie smiled wildly at her when she spun around in a circle.
“It looks amazing, but so knew it would!” The dress went perfectly with Ciel’s blonde hair and bright eyes. There was an awkward beat of silence made Valarie fumble for words, just something to talk about.
“U-uh do you want to change into the suit or are you going to stick with the dress? Whatever you want is fine with me.” She smiled at Ciel, hopeful she was able to get rid of the silence. Her hands fussed with the skirt of her dress, picked up the skirt and letting it drop back down to her feet. Suddenly she looked up and Ciel.
I got an owl from my mum recently.” She wasn’t sure why she mentioned the letter but she couldn’t stop now. “She said my family took in a little girl that was my mother’s friend’s daughter, Haley. Sorry…I don’t know why I mentioned that.”

As she looked at herself in the mirror once more, a different thought popped into her mind. Did it really matter what the dressed look like on her? She wanted the outfit she wore to look good with what Valarie wore, but would the dress or the tux look better? She'd just have to try them on and see.
"Yeah, I'll put on the tux and then I'll decide!" Ciel walked over to the bag with the tux in it and fiddled with it, pulling on the zippers. She half-listened to what Val said- it was like her voice was enough to distract Ciel- still, she was struggling with the zippers catching onto the bag. Damn, why was she having so much trouble?
Finally, finally, she pulled open the bag. The tuxedo was still in the same quality it had been when Will put it in the bag. "So, your mom adopted a little girl? I want a little sister." Ciel paused before she spoke again. "I mean, do you want to have a little sister? I know those kinds of changes can be really difficult to cope with. My mom said that when my uncle- my dad's brother- died, it was like everything changed around the family. I bet it's the same when you bring someone into your life, too."
She hung up the tuxedo and then faced Val, and the mirror once more. Her hands hesitated for a moment, but she wrapped an arm around Val's shoulder and Ciel pressed her body to Val's side. She looked over the two dresses together- would they look better if she had the suit on? Ugh! She'd have to put on the suit to make any kind of guess.

Spring Dresses
Valarie watched Ciel look in the mirror before heading over to the other bag with the tux. Ciel told her that she wanted a little sister but then asked her opinion on the matter.
“Well… I’m not really sure. I’ve hardly ever met her. I’m nervous how my sister will feel about her sense she’s a half blood instead of a pure blood. I’m also worried that if she isn’t a witch Adeline, my sister, will be really mean to her. I’m not sure it’s just… odd. I’m sorry about to hear about your uncle. That must have been sad.” Valarie looked down and when she looked back up, Ciel was walking over to hear. She was absolutely frozen when Ciel wrapped her arm around Val. Valarie put her arm around Ciel’s shoulders like she had done and smiled, unfreezing. She looked over and Ciel, still with a huge grin on her face. She gave Ciel a small hug and felt calmer about the situation with Haley. Valarie’s mind went blank and she had no idea what to say or do. She stayed in the hug position with Ciel, not wanting to break away. She hesitated for a moment before telling Ciel,
“I know I already said this but… I’m just super excited about going to the ball with you. I’m glad you said yes.” She didn’t run out like she wanted to nor did she faint like she thought she would if she said that. She kept grinning at Ciel, happily.

"Your sister would be mean to someone based on whether or not they're a pureblood?" The thought of being so close-minded shocked Ciel. Especially considering how the cowboy herself wasn't a pureblood, and definitely not a half-blood. So weird.
"Also, my uncle dying didn't really affect me, 'cause y'know..." Ciel trailed off, she didn't even know her uncle! With him dying before she was born, the entire family had to help out with baby Ciel that the time they had for mourning was short-lived. "I wasn't even born yet, haha." Her laugh was awkward, but she didn't really have any other way to put it. How else could you say someone died before you were born?
Ciel patted Val's head when the latter went for a hug. It was the same thing her brothers did to her when she ever went in for a hug, and if the action comforted Ciel, then surely it would have the same effect on Val. Her mind trailed, though, and Ciel wondered when the last time she had actually hugged any of her brothers. She had latched onto Dion when he took her to get her ears pierced, but besides that? The thought worried her.
"I'm also excited to go with you!" Ciel cheered. "I was afraid I'd have to go by myself... which is totally lame."

Ciel seemed shocked about her sister. Valarie nodded sadly.
“Yeah… she’s not the best older sister but I’m sure there is worse than her.” The topic of her sister was a sore subject for Val and she liked to avoid it at all costs. Ciel explained that her uncle’s death hadn’t affected her because she had yet to be born.
“It’s still sad though. I would be sad if my uncle died.” There was a moment of silence before Ciel said how excited she was about the ball. Gently, Valarie removed her arm from around Ciel. She most definitely would have kept it there if her arm hadn’t begun to hurt from holding it up. That’s when Valarie froze. April seventeenth! She thought. Today was Valarie’s birthday! She had completely forgotten about the party she was having later. She had yet to invite Ciel. She walked over the pile of her other clothes and fished around in one of the pockets and withdrew a small card. She went back over to Ciel and held it out to her.
“I completely forgot to tell you! Today is actually my birthday!” Valarie laughed.
“I completely forgot to invite you but I totally meant too! Here is the invite for you to read. I would really love for you to be there.” Valarie smiled at Ciel and hoped the wonderful Hufflepuff would want to come to celebrate with her.

After wearing the white and yellow dress for a few moments longer, Ciel had made up her mind. Though Will had a nice suit, the dress seemed to fit her better. It looked nicer on her and it made her... happy? Does clothing do that? Had Ciel ever felt happy wearing a certain outfit before-? well, excluding the hat her father had given her. That always made her happy.
"Yeah, I think I'm gonna wear this dress." Ciel mumbled to herself, before looking over at Val. "Anyway, your sister seems kind of like a jerk. I have three older brothers and they aren't like that to anyone! My brothers are actually really nice- well, to everyone 'cept me- I think you'd like them alot." Ciel ranted about her brothers for another moment or two before noticing Val freeze up. She was about to ask if everything was okay, but then Valarie mentioned that it was her birthday? What a way to drop a bombshell!
How was Ciel supposed to prepare and get a present in time for a birthday that was like an hour away? Panic dawned on her face as she came to a horrible realization- she was going to have to act fast if she wanted to get both a card and a present ready! Going to Hogsmeade wouldn't even be a viable action!
"Wah! Val! You can't drop that on me so suddenly! I've got to go get a present for you!!"
