Dori seemed to be holding their breath. Surely this was going too well. They healed Logan successfully thank goodness. No one else was hit except Ivy, who was really feeling the pain this round. They kind of felt bad for targeting her, but someone had to be hit in the duel. This was the part of duelling that was never fun, inflicting pain on others.

Where the last round belonged to the badgers, this round belonged almost completely to the Gryffindors.

It all started with a small enough slip, with Dorion’s knockback spell missing Ivy by inches. Where the smallest hesitation had had the newest duelist hit last round, it was the smallest margins that kept her safe now. Skill, luck, or something else entirely; the balance of the duel was shifting.

Miss Baird also cast a knockback jinx at Bellamy, but a last-second jerk of her wrist sent her spell wildly off target at Miss Bennet instead. And here the Ruby house truly showed its dueling mettle. Miss Bennet practically floated out of the way of spell (nat 20) with effortless grace, before casting a perfect full-body-bind curse (second nat 20) at Dorion, leaving them restrained.

Miss Bellamy also struck back at her opponents with amazing ardor; casting a modified incendio as Miss Baird with devastating accuracy, and re-igniting the dying embers on the Badger’s clothes. It was a brutal choice, burns were never a pleasant choice. But it appeared to be working for the Gryffindors.

And suddenly, and without warning, it appeared that the Gryffindors were the ones in the driving seat of the duel, and the Hufflepuffs were the ones on the ropes. Would the lions capitalize on their momentary advantage, or would the tides of battle turn once more?

Nicky was finally satisfied with the way she dodged a spell and cast another one. Finally, the execution was flawless. It was more like what she had been working on all summer and less like the disaster the duel had been before this moment. They still had a long way to go until their team would be out of the woods but she knew they had to focus on the goal and win.

Ugh, the hot streak was over with a singular missed spell. Still, Hufflepuff was in better shape than Gryffindor, even just barely. Logan's spell missed, whipping at a different target than intended but Dori was just happy it didn't target them. Their joy of avoidance was short-lived as they felt their body stiffen. "Ah!" Like a tree, they fell over. Knocking their head on the ground with a groan.

Ivy's spell landed beautifully, instantly lifting her spirits. She smiled at Elsa, already feeling much better than she had ten seconds ago, before turning her attention back onto her opponents. It was important that she didn't let it go to her head, she had to stay alert and not celebrate too soon!

Logan yelped at the sudden appearance of more flames than before. Not only did her spell completely miss and go for a new target, but she was now on fire even more than she had been before. Glancing over at her partner, she groaned in slight frustration as she watched them hit the ground from a full body-bind curse. They still had a chance, Dorian just needed to get free and Logan needed to not be on fire.

Logan Baird seemed to predict the incoming volley of spells from the Gryffindors, and stood ready to dodge the incoming attacks. Indeed, the badger managed to sidestep both the incoming Knockback jinxes with relative ease. To Hui-Ming, both those spells were aimed poorly, relative to the skill displayed by the Gryffindors only the round prior. Tiredness, perhaps, was taking its toll on them as the consistent level of focus need to cast and dodge was quite taxing.

Still, the round concluded relatively peacefully, with more violent happening than Dorion managing to break out of their body bind, and Logan's clothes continuing to burn merrily with little heed being paid by the girl being actually roasted by the flames. The Slytherin moderator could not be sure if he should respect the Badger for their dedication, or be mildly disturbed at the nonchalant manner in which such violence was being treated.

One thing he could say was that it was half-way through the duel, and both parties had done about the same amount of damage to each other. Quite the achievement on the part of the Gryffindors, who could not spread their spells like the Hufflepuffs could. But then, could the Lions hold on to their focus and their performance long enough to snatch a victory, or would the Badgers be able to force a victory through sheer force of magical strength?

With a mighty struggle, Dori was luckily able to snap themselves out of the body-binding spell. This left a lingering stiffness and soreness, making them a little less limber for dodging but that didn't matter. At least they weren't on the ground anymore. Logan seemed to take a defensive action, which made sense. Luckily it resulted in both spells missing. Dori narrowed their eyes at the clouds, one hit? That was it. These clouds needed to step up their lightning game.

Logan's best bet at making it through this round alive was to dodge these next few spells if possible. She was still aflame and was getting rather uncomfortable from the heat and burns caused by the previously well aimed incendio. Luck was slightly on the Hufflepuff's side for the time being though as she easily managed to get away from the two spells aimed at her. Maybe she was going to be okay.

Nicky was a bit disappointed when they didn't hit Logan, although she was happy that the girl didn't have to suffer. It wasn't like she enjoyed torturing other people, but she didn't want to lose the duel either because she was still very competitive. She focused on her opponents and on the next move she was going to make because her and Ivy had to win that one for the team.
