The most interesting about the duel was that it featured powerful duellists. The tide could turn at any moment.

Bridget, with seemingly slowing down manner, decided to dispel the impediment on Astrea and save her ally from the imminent doom of being slowed down to complete zero. A small sacrifice for the brighter future of the duel.

This allowed Astrea in her turn to mirror the spell that hit her several moments ago. It seemed that the wand struggle for another eye wink, but managed to produce the tricky spell. Delilah would be getting slower and slower in the upcoming seconds.

But not right now. A nicely cast Flipendo made its way clearly towards Astrea and hit her directly into the chest, although it seemed slightly not as hard as it could — knowing Delilah personally. Meenauh wondered why not Confringo like she did them.

But speaking of fiery spells, the more silvery side of Ravenclaw produced pure fire that instantly sparked on Astrea's outfit, leaving no space for evasion. But what was even more surprising — another Fire-Making Spell left Aida's wand in succession, to Meenauh's awe, but unfortunately it went completely off into the duelling field's defences. If it'd have hit the planned target, the effects would be devastating for Slytherin.

It felt ironic to be hit by the exact same spell Delilah had just sent to both of them, but it was entirely fair and called for. It was good to see Aida's wand send off another spell, even if it missed, that wand really was useful, hopefully it would continue to be in the future.

If Bridget were to compose a list of things she feared, it would go something like this: whatever the heck had just come out of Aida's wand. This was a very serious list and definitely wasn't missing a few fears.

Seriously, though, Aida's wand had spit out a second jet of fire and Bridget's eyes had widened at the sight of it, because this wasn't like a spell spread. It wasn't one spell bifurcating into two, it was like a second firing in rapid succession. So while scary wasn't exactly the word she was looking for, Bridget was certainly awed, and more than a little glad that second spit had come nowhere near Astrea.

Astrea, who was taking enough as it was. Both Delilah's solid Flipendo and Aida's first fire made their mark, combining into something any duellist knew had to be painful. The best Bridget could do for her teammate at the moment was shower her in the counterspell, at least bringing her back up to full speed. As for Bridget, she was still slowed, and it was getting worse, so that was fun. This was where she wished she'd figured out how to spread her spells.

Willpower drawn taut enough to terrify and the line of her spine temporarily burning cold, Astrea could feel her magic physically threatening to rebel. Seeking always to humble her for her imitative hubris, it seemed to roil in electric agitation. Her many months of study-filled estrangement - nearly no different than her usual brand of isolation except for the subject material covered - could not result in such public humiliation so early on. She would not permit it.

The burst of green flame greedily making kindle out of her duel robes was an unappreciated, wholly unsurprising blow, yet that perhaps was the only normal feature about the white-haired wix's strategy. Not quite the work of familiar spell spreading - for Astrea could identify that as if her own magic - but instead two separate bolts of flame. Endlessly impressive, if not seemingly inconsistent in accuracy... Was it a conscious decision on the Ravenclaw's part? No matter the intentions, Astrea would need to take some notes. Attempting to regain her placement upon the duelling piste after its temporary knockback-induced loss, she could pay no further mind to the flame steadily climbing the sleeve of her other arm. The show must go on, no matter the tumultuous circumstances.

The whole Impediments parade was over it seemed as Bridget dispelled hers, while Aida dispelled Delilah's. A pity. Meenauh always wanted to see to which extent the spell could go if not stopped. Maybe to the place where all the boring duels were resting. So, on the second thought, she was glad all the effects were dispelled. Just in time when the fire on Astrea stopped its burning. Astrea didn't even flinch.

Astrea didn't flinch because she needed to raise a shield right away before another fire could hit her. And, indeed, Delilah chose to double Aida's spell and sent a spark of bright fire towards the Slytherin girl. The shield popped up and ate the entire fire in an instant. For a few seconds, nothing was happening as the duellists seemed to work out what to do next. And Meenauh could take a breath as well.

Aida’s finite incantatem went off without a hitch, but it seemed Delilah found resistance in her efforts. From the far corner of the room, Aida’s desert tawny owl hooted with encouragement. The firey-eyed bird made for a permanent source of moral support for Aida, attending every duel – quite the lucky pairing for the duelling-obsessed beast master that Aida was.

“Hear that, Delilah? ZaZa wants us to keep going strong!” Aida chirped with warmth.

It was a shame to see Delilahs spell get knocked into nothingness from a classic Protego move, but considering the onslaught of the Ravenclaws abilities, it was understandable. Hearing Aida speak from beside her, Delilah turned with a smile, still making sure to pay attention to the opponents side as surely there would be something coming from them soon. "Ah, good to hear it, thank you ZaZa!" She smiled at the bird, the small interaction making her question whether it was time she got herself a pet.

Skilfully conjuring a shield charm, Astrea wasted not a single spare moment to admire the invisible barrier shimmering into existence about her before it fell, unceremoniously absorbing a burst of brilliant green flame in its short existence. As if in empathetic pain at the mere sight of hijacked backup, the present fire licking at her sleeve cuffs took the cue to burn itself out with all the petulant dejection of a spoilt child.

Amusingly, such a comparison was not too far off from (if one were to be as generously distracted by the Ravenclaw team's tame owls) her dear Orpheus' demeanour at times.

Undaunted and ever unfettered though Astrea remained, this instance would mark one of her first proper uses of protego bar regular training and study sessions. Granted, there was little to be surprised about when it came to such a straightforward spell but this author believes the rarity deserves some amount of acknowledgement. How peculiar it was to see an already cast spell simply disappear without striking anything in particular, abruptly extinguished upon proximity's entry...

The slowing effect was at this point so bad that she would be thoroughly useless doing anything besides getting rid of it immediately. So that was what Bridget did, copying the movements she'd made a minute ago for Astrea, and they were a little harder to push out but still accurate enough to work.

The rush of magic eliminated the jinx, and she could move again. It was a nice feeling, to be in full control of her limbs. And Astrea had thrown up a shield, so things had not gotten too much worse in the past few seconds, which meant her mind wasn't racing with so many concerns that she missed the cute exchange on Ravenclaw's side with Aida's owl. Maybe someday she should have a friend bring Sherlock, he'd probably enjoy all the excitement.
