It seemed like that fierce duel against the Ravenclaws was just yesterday. The one that followed by the butterbeer talk in the Three Broomsticks. That was good time.
And now she was a referee for Delilah, it was a nice opportunity to study the girl from aside, not facing her. Another round for Astrea, the same awkward strange feeling around her like the last time.
She knew everyone who was about to enter the stage, she knew their style, she knew how many times they won or lost. It was all known, but they kept improving, so besides making sure the duel would be fair, she decided to watch their strengths and weaknesses as well.
"I greet you again on Match 12 between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. The fiercest duellists will face each other in this duel. Let it be exhausting and devastating, but let the strongest side win!"
She smiled at the choice of words, and honestly considered that a nice joke. A lot of duels had happened already, so everyone might have already be tired. But she knew, she was definitely sure this one would be spectacular.
"Please, welcome, Bridget Collins and Astrea Soleil Neptune from Slytherin," she clapped and let the clapping from the audience calm down, "and then Delilah Stewart and Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood from Ravenclaw," she continued and, again, allowed the crowd to go quieter after a round of applause.
"Don't kill each other," she said in a queit tone to the duellists alone, and stepped down from the stage.
"Let the fun... begin!" she exclaimed and shot the red sparks to the ceiling.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 12

There was something unnerving about that lovely Slytherin, Astrea. Wrinkling their nose, Aida looked over to Bridget and then to Delilah. Was anyone else feeling a bit funny about this match already? Still, Aida thought Astrea wasn't necessarily a horrible person. After all, dhampirs could give off all kinds of bad vibes but still be nice to hang out with. Sniffing the air like an animal, Aida tried to understand what this Neptune creature was but didn't have much to go off yet. Waving hello, the white wix decided to observe Astrea's response.

@Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood | @Astrea Neptune | @Bridget CollinsDelilah spun her wand around between her fingers, she had been on a bit of a winning streak for a while now, hopefully that would continue. This was not only her first duel with Aida, but also her first duel as the new Co-Captain for Ravenclaw, she had a reputation to uphold. She looked over to Aida and grinned, they could do this.

Another stage, another duel. It was the same thing Bridget had been doing for years, except it wasn't, because now she was Slytherin Captain. Not just a Co-Captain, important but secondary in the team hierarchy, she was the definitive lead in their practices and strategizing.
That brought pressure. Which was nothing new, but it was worse than before, and it didn't help that she was loathe to let a single drop of that stress show. Being the calm, cool, collected, competent captain? Easy enough, yep.
It didn't exactly help the nerves that she was with Astrea, her fellow fifth year had a certain vibe that didn't seem to sit well with most people, though Bridget couldn't figure out quite what it was. Maybe it was just that she was practically the poster child of "beware the quiet ones," typically silent and yet highly skilled. Bridget knew her, though, knew she was reliable, and though that did nothing for the fickle things that were emotions, it did appease her logical side.
Delilah and Aida were both formidable opponents, not to mention Delilah had a year on her, but Bridget wasn't necessarily walking into this thinking she would lose, so that was something. Or maybe she actually had a much more inflated ego than she thought she did, after so many wins? But Dmitri never seemed anywhere near as stressed...
Whatever the case, she was taking to the duelling stage now, wand in hand and Astrea at her side. Going through those ritual motions of waving to the moderator, nodding to her opponents, wishing a quick good luck to her teammate, even though she didn't really believe in luck. Getting into position, and pushing the racing thoughts away, and waiting for the signal to start. Another stage, another duel.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 12
With the turn of the new year came two key aspects to the Viridian Vipers, both of which in direct relevance to our good Astrea's extracurricular activities. The first and least surprising factor was the introduction of the winter duelling season onto Hogwarts' grounds. The second - one of the first major administrative development they have had recently - was the transference of titles and normalisation of their former Captain, Dmitri Jones.
Astrea, ever one to handle her superiors with some unvoiced modicum of natural loyalty despite their estrangement, had taken the exchange of power and subsequent team assignments with only gracious, uncritical acceptance. From one partner assignment and opponent team to the next, only potential and skill ruled her brief opinions over the culmination of each duel's action. She needn't dwell on the past much longer except to criticise and correct her previous poor choices, but this phase of duelling doubled as a vague first impression to one of her newest captains.
A person of scarce words and scarcer human interaction, Astrea had taken her position upon the piste with little more than a respectful head dip at each new greeting deflecting off of her unshakable shield of detached preparedness. It had not changed since her first venture into amateur duelling - today would not mark demeanour difference either, especially considering the extra reputational element of two opposing duel leads upon their duelling piste.
The prospect of a new challenge loomed over the horizon. It promised but the lure of experience and stable competition.

It all started as soon as the last word dropped from Meenauh's tongue or lips, or wherever the words usually drop. The spells in spreads started to be flung around.
Bridget sent a huge current of water towards Delilah, but she managed to dodge, leaving a puddle behind herself. This small feat allowed Astrea, who managed to produce two strong gusts of wind, to direct it to the dodging Delilah and right on target. The girl got pushed a bit and almost slipped on the puddle behind her.
The other gust of wind was quickly travelling towards Aida, who managed to produce fire of such powerful intensity that Meenauh was worried of the whole stage getting caught in it. But because of the wind in the face, the fire missed the intended target for Astrea's luck. It would be really difficult to get rid of.
Despite the wind, blowing in her face, Delilah produced a split version of the Impediment Jinx, both laid nicely on the two Slytherin girls. Bridge was a toe away from dodging it, but no luck this time. The effect didn't seem to be visible right away, but it was a matter of the next several seconds, so they'd all would see.

It seemed the prettier of the two vipers was the quiet type, not responding to Aida’s wave. No matter, decided the wix. They could all speak the language of battle, which was perhaps a more honest tongue than those of most humans. Aida wanted to send a nice big incendio to Astrea, but even after all their training, the snow white Ravenclaw’s aim was just a hair off target.
With a short apology to Delilah, Aida grumbled and braced for an oncoming gale.

@Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood | @Astrea Neptune | @Bridget CollinsFor Delilah, that round had went about as well as it could have, yes they both got hit by a wind jinx, but worse things had happened, Del shook her head at Aidas apology, there was no need for apologies in a duel, you absolutely demolish your opponents with no more than a 'Good duel, I owe you a drink' or something, Del didn't often speak to her duelling opponents again, she should probably change that at some point. Honestly it was just a lack of crossover again.

A first round miss was never particularly fun. It happened, it was to be expected at times, but it was certainly nicer to get that bit of momentum right away. Bridget just barely missed Delilah, at least, the water splashing down inches past her, so she had nothing to beat herself up about.
Astrea's spread Ventus was very successful, they had that going for them, and her partner dodged the absolutely blistering bout of fire sent by Aida. Not being on fire was also nice. Also, if memory served correctly, Astrea had had her hair set on fire on a... fun night a few years ago. And, yeah. Not being on fire was optimal!
What was less optimal was the effects of Delilah's spell. Bridget almost avoided it, but it was just a little too fast to twist away from, and immediately she could feel her movements start to slow, like she was pushing through water. And being slowed really took down her ability to efficiently do anything, which was of course exactly what you wanted in a duel.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 12
It seemed that the start of the duel was marked by a balancing act between feats of magical prowess, wholly expected from experienced casters, and individualised elemental clashing. The juxtaposition of simultaneously threatened fire and water found ready targets only in close absence, two spells that would have no doubt grown in severity regardless of their placement had they hit at the same time as Astrea's wind jinx.
Increasingly slowed as she was, she could not help but recognise the peculiarity of such accidentally similar strategies shared between two teams that had so incessantly prepared in private. How interesting it was, to know that they had individually practised and prepared for as many scenarios as they could think of and yet this was the first situation to occur. 'Great minds thought alike' was gaining yet another kernel of truth to it, yet Astrea had a feeling that adaptability would soon shift their coincidences.
