A kerfuffle drew Valentin’s eye to Piérre down below as the jester blew up a garroting gas potion on himself. Quietly, Valya thought: what the hell are you doing? Can’t you see your brother is in mortal peril?

“Piérre!” yelled Valentin, omitting the for Stribog’s sake, screwing around while... part. “Help us. Help your brother!” For all of the younger Marchonné’s obliviousness, though, it seemed that her majesty Ileen Knight, queen of all Candyland, had seen the younger students' periculum and was joining the fray with a wind jinx cast at their enemy.

“Highness! Please, heal our ally next,” called the knight of Sweet Secrets, pointing to Romeo with his left hand as Valentin kept his wand locked on the doll.

Speaking of Romeo, the Real Girl didn’t take long to break free of Valentin’s curse and begin shredding the beater’s arm. Valentin grimaced from his co-captain’s agony as well as the ineffectiveness of his own work. The sound of Rome’s tearing flesh alone struck Valya vividly enough to make his own skin crawl as if it, too, were under siege.

“ROMEO!”

As the Italian’s blood gushed everywhere, the frost captain knew the boy had sustained a grievous wound that would pour out all his life energy if nothing stopped it soon. He wanted to be the one to heal Romeo’s wound firsthand, but the captain’s strategic mind would not permit such selfishness. He had to take on the more challenging choice of magic that he knew he was the best suited for. Hoping his team mate would come through, Valentin put Romeo’s life on the line by depending on Johannes.

“Hanya, bandage Romeo! Please! Hang in there, fiddler! Keep the pressure coming.” The frost captain was trying to keep his cool, but his voice growled with stress. Val couldn’t risk Romeo dying by bleeding out like Valentin had died. No, Valya had decided to try granting the boy immortality to repay him for saving his life. To lose him to such a needy daddy-complex excuse for a hag doll was utterly unacceptable.

“I will bind you to the end, you сука! (Russian: bitch) Petrificus totalus! The sand in the hourglass was already quickly running out. “Romeva, I’m sorry. Please keep her busy while we keep you in the fight.”

If Johannes hadn't already heard about the practically infamous danger of Hogwarts social functions, perhaps his reaction would have been more dramatic at the turn of events. But alas, he had exchanged too many lost galleons for local newspapers to fool himself into a false sense of security.

Though style points were achieved, Johannes was dismayed to find that his accuracy was just slightly off-mark as Real Girl dodged with all the inconveniently slipperiness of the good-for-nothing(but-harm) insect as she was. The entitled audacity of jilted B-film horror extras! Who was she to waltz on in and attack his own? Most importantly, where were the adults in this situation? Johannes had thought this was a school-approved dance, yet there wasn't a chaperone to be seen amidst the screaming crowds of legitimate children - many of whom were about the same age as some of his younger Hounds.

Relatively low-flying though he was, mobility and speed was where a broom prevailed over the chaotic courtyard. If he couldn't attack, he needed to act as support - and quickly, judging from the airborne wrestling his fellow Horntail was engaging in. Scarcely wasting momentum to skid around Romeo, it took but a tap on the arm and a speeding-ticket-worthy cast of the bandaging charm before Johannes found himself (not for the first time) glad he wasn't the target of their increasingly incensed beater.

If successful, any observers would only be able to catch a glimpse of newly conjured bandages wrapped thickly over Romeo's injury as #4's martial arts experience revealed itself. Johannes couldn't yet erase Romeo's injury - not until they had more breathing time to heal without being attacked - but at least the pressure and presence of the bandages would prevent their resident Italian from passing out mid-air. That's all they could ask for right now bar the complete annihilation of Real Girl's threat.

(And if, between the sterile white and crimson red, there was a flash of presently unreadable text [I'll beat thee, but I would infect my hands". Shakespeare's Timon, 4:3] on a pharmacy bandage slapped on top, it wasn't Johannes' fault. Call it an unintentional act of adding insult to injury, but he coped with aggressive humour. It seemed that his magic was no better.)

The Courtyard had, from the start, seemed the only logical place to hold a ball such as the likes of the theme Faerietale Endings. What sort of Faerietale did not in some way incorporate the beauty of a twilit sky, or the delicate sparklings of the silvery stars overhead? The usually drab grey stones of the courtyard appeared almost silver in the almost entirely full light of the waxing moon, just one night away, and every tree and shadow appeared to have a slightly more angular and harsh edge because of Luna's soft yet intense glow. Soft birdsong, difficult to tell if magically or mundanely made, cooed in the black and whispering branches, and a soft, brisk, and rather chilly wind (11 degree Celsius/52 degree Fahrenheit) rattled branches and encouraged the older among the trees to groan in their own eerie melodies. A better evening could not have been asked for save the Highland cold, and tonight in particular seemed to gleam with a mysterious magic of a non-wizard origin.

Sprinkled about the environment lay trademarks of several better-known Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm Brothers fables. Within the courtyard fountain was a small recreation of Thumbelina being introduced to a repulsive toad groom. Opposing it on the far side a single large frog with a golden crown sitting on a lilypad sat with one of his "arms" extended as if to reach out and take a lady (or lad) by the hand for a tender kiss. Both of these floated freely in the water, bobbing here and there and guided by the current of the fountain water. Tangled upon the walls of the courtyard were thousands of blooming flowers mixed with sharp, prickly black thorns. Any self-respecting wandmaker would recognize a collection of well-trimmed blackthorn bushes off in one corner, though these appeared to have been grafted with a rose bush, for there was one red-blooming bush and one white-blooming bush. Not too far away from these was a pile of shoes, mostly leather and rough in make, but both a single "glass" shoe for a young woman barely glittered underneath its mundane fellows and a pair of bright red shoes stuck out like sore thumbs. High up in the tallest tree sat a stuffed plush golden goose in a nest that was angled so that all could see large golden eggs, the prize of most any kleptomaniac to be sure. Underneath a willow tree sat poised a collection of plaster swans, one of which was a small, downy, ugly grey fellow being embraced by one of the larger, more magnificent ones while a family of ducks watched on. Similarly, faux ravens looked down at both the scene below them and outwards towards the main congregation of the celebration with quiet eyes. If a student brushed close enough, it would magically animate, extend charcoal black wings, and have its eyes glow red with an accompanying "Caw, caw, caw!" emanating from it.

Fairy lights (glowing by the bioluminescent light of glow bugs) would offer an almost unnoticeable glow when compared to the light of the moon, their only purpose being to highlight the already bright and colorful bursts of spectrum that were found in the flowers and the leaves of the fall-blossoming plants. Tiny, real fairies, likely drawn in by the color and the ethereal nature of the environment fluttered about here and there, playing with the plush animals or perusing the nearby feast that was laid out. They giggled in a lightly buzzing tone, gesticulating and teasing with one another by pointing out the students that they thought to be less-dressed or less than impressive in their attire than themselves. Other fairies were more content to sit by the water fountain and meddle with the frogs thereon, whereas others flittered in the trees and danced in a way that caused loosened flower petals to be whisked into the air and produce a waltz of their own design.

The warm orange glow of the setting sun cast upon the vicinity had set the courtyard in a picturesque far back in time. As if reliving an old painting from the renaissance or within one's imagination of fairytales brought to life. With the sun disappearing into the horizon and giving way to the shadows of Autumn's early evening, the bronze candelabras on tables and strings of starry fairy lights that hung across the walls of the courtyard would shed light throughout the event, albeit with an almost eerily flickers.

The tables around were dressed in dark linens, with a neat display of silver goblets and silverware set upon. At the further end of the courtyard stood a rather coniferous juniper tree with claw-like branches that cast its shadow on a long rustic mahogany table displaying a delicious array that was to be feasted on. A large brass pot of simmering savoury stew, an impressive platter of pudding and pies of the sort, and a deep bowl of a rich burgundy red beverage to serve with the many intricate goblets that cluttered the table. By the table was a wooden bucket swirling with apples bobbing on the surface, green, pink, red and yellow. Any hungry souls could help themselves to a share of food while it lasted.
By Aurelia Notresvace
Light, mystical music drifted through the air; not sourced by a band or instrument easily visible, but as if by ghostly, phantasmal, omnipresent nature, encouraging couples to dance freely in the central, clearing of the courtyard set aside for a dance floor. Already there were a few of the native ghosts of Hogwarts finding themselves at home in the company of the antique surroundings, as they whispered to one another about their lives and their deaths alike, with especial couples somberly drifting to and fro in a silent waltz among the living and evoking an accidental chill if one came too close to one with still-living flesh.

An eye drifting to the right of the celebration would observe a collection of ill-sprinkled Bernie Bott's Every Flavored Beans, which would lead to but one of the activities of the night...

On the left, a collection of pumpkins of all sizes, faux rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other small woodland creatures would guide anybody who was curious enough to investigate their trail to sights and experiences of the most magical degree...

The night was young, the moon was nearly full, the food and beverages were set. Mystery and trickery hung thick in the skies as an air of excitement, grandeur, and the remotest tingling of trepidation laid eerily present in the vicinity. The 2022 Fall Ball was now begun.

@Edme Achillian and @Avery McCall would finally get over their shared awkwardness and choose to leave together for the biggest activity of the night; the 'Save Your Date' event. Honestly, of the three locations of the celebration... this one was most likely the safest. Perhaps it would be for the best that they chose to leave when they did. Things were about to get rather bloody and gruesome.
Apples & Goblets
All that remained of those affected by potions were Nick, Serena, Amelia, and Illusia. Two were unconscious, one was only three feet tall, and the last one was not in a good mood due to a mental potion that flavored most everything going on around her in a dangerous light.
Nick Iris: Shrinking Solution (+3 Evasion; disadvantage on Strength Checks) Endures until nullified
@Serena Towers: Befuddlement Draught (Animosity towards everyone) Endures until nullified
@Amelia Miller: Sleeping Draught (d2: 2 [-3 Wisdom]) Amelia Miller is now Unconcsious
It was more than likely by now that the party was starting to break up for good... nights had been ruined, as they usually were... nobody wanted to stick around and clean up the mess left behind. That was the job of the people who had been responsible for attempting to run the event after all, wasn't it?

By the luck of the fates perhaps, all the attackers of this horrific Real Girl were able to rally their forces for a powerful push against their opposer; each and every person had their part to play, and truth be told what happened next could have never happened if they had all not done exactly what they had chosen to do in that moment.

With a continual 'stun-lock' on the real girl, Valentin Schnell elected to keep up the petrification curse [Wisdom 24; Auto-Hit] on the bloody and (saggy?) creature. Petrified already, it was child's play to make his strike count, causing the beastie's muscles to lock up even tighter, inflicting more damage upon it and keeping it down [50 damage, -3 Eva for 1 Round] for another round. Such an action would make it exceptionally easy for @Colin McCoire to swoop in and attempt to quote 'take its breath' from it so that it could no longer have the ability to take the breath of others that he loved. Easily enough he fixed his fingers [CP8TP2; Auto-hit due to Petrification] about this girl's throat, feeling the tips of his fingers tenderly press down upon her windpipe as best he could.

If anyone else on the outside, particularly an adult, happened to look in, it would not be a pleasant or easily explained sight; this younger boy straddling as well as simultaneously strangling a girl that looked only barely shorter than himself who was covered in blood and severely damaged-looking.

Good thing that there were no adults in the immediate vicinity; the children would have to take care of the children, naturally.

However, Colin was not truly a Martial Artist in any sense; the way that his hands were located on the girl was at best brutish and at worst rather unsecure. Indeed, just as Romeo had discovered but moments earlier, this girl was not easily held in a position of helpless chokeholding. If anything, such danger only increased her ability to fight back. If she wanted to, she would be able to eventually break away from Colin's grasp as easily as a wolf rent flesh with its powerful and pressured jaws.

Poor coordinator of the event @Piérre Marchonné after taking yet another dose of his nasty brewing [-60 damage, -20 damage Figaro] decided it would be best if he cleared out from the noxious fumes; which he subsequently did. After doing so, he would try his best to angle his weapon of choice-- magic-- towards this ugly creature, doing his best to try and douse it in incredibly pressured water per the use of Aqua Eructo. While not a very successful duelist (yet), it couldn't be said that he wasn't at least a little bit good at the trade of his choice, and with an easily summoned conjuring of arcane force [WDC15, 27 Wisdom; CP10 (Trigger) TP9] and an almost chilling sense of sudden calm that he felt from somewhere on the battlefield that wasn't his own, the spell leapt true and easily squared itself right beneath Colin's restraining arm and struck the girl directly in the ribs. Part of the stream managed to get into her eyes as well [-117, 1d3(1) -4 Accuracy 1 round], which would cause her attacks to be at an even more noticeable disadvantage (at least for the immediate time being).

Support at the Jester's side came from barefooted @Ileen Knight, the watcher of shadows and the ghostly lady whose mind was filled with the past regrets and sorrows. The name of a deceased, nay-- twice deceased-- boy was gently scrawled into the ground in the blood of the fallen @Lily Brown, who continued to falter in her ability [Death Save 2, Failure] to cling on to life. She would be rushed into the Hospital Wing by now, most likely, in an incredibly critical condition; indeed, only a few inches away from death. But this was not the action of Ileen to worry over; instead thinking of what had to be done now, starting with this immediate threat that simply must somehow be connected. Somehow it was all connected, everything came back to Victor Moore, the boy whose death(s) had only produced more questions than answers. By the use of the wind jinx, Ileen would push the foul smelling cloud of Garroting Gas towards the main fray with [WDC13, Wisdom 26] minimal effort, causing Colin [-60], Johannes Saur [-100], Romeo Marchonné [-90], Valentin Schnell [-80], and the Real Girl [-???] to suffer in the miasma of stench that had previously unaffected them. What goes around comes around, one supposes.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again. This appeared to be the mantra that @Taizu Miyashiro was intently following as this was the fourth time that he successfully [WDC11, 22 Wisdom] released a small ball of fire in the form of incendio towards the surprisingly virile Carrie girl. This time, unlike his predecessors, however, a wave of calm would overtake him just as it had with Piérre, and with a small blast of fire (though damped by the previous strike of water that Piérre himself had laid upon the adversary), the girl would be singed [-91] on her right ribcage.

As Romeo wheeled about, seemingly ready for blood in revenge for the blood that had been shed by himself, Johannes made sure to ensure that he wasn't going to bleed out much more with a hastily conjured Ferula spell [WDC12, Wisdom 28] that quickly bound itself around their beater's forearm with a clever little quip. Of course, no action performed by Johannes could be done without some sort of clever little shred of sarcasm or the like. A defensive mechanism, perhaps, but certainly nobody could argue with the effectiveness that came along with it. Romeo was not longer bleeding, and perhaps the pain of the strike was only slightly less painful than it would be if the injury was left untreated.

Colin was beginning to get on the nerves of the Real Girl, who was still petrified and was enraged at the condition that she was currently suffering in. With yet another force of will, burned and scalded at the same time, the Girl [SDC 10, 13 Strength Check Critical Failure] though immensely weakened by the constant barrage upon her fleshy form, still managed to free herself from the arcane of Valentin Schnell, clenching the cherry and dragon heartstring wand in her right hand and trying to flick it towards Colin's chest with the obvious intent to cause harm upon him as well... or at least to distract him for long enough for her to escape the childish clutches of the boy. Her 'pretty' features turned ugly as a snarl edged on either side of her mouth, now painfully clear that her teeth were not blunted like that of a human's but rather inhumanly jagged like that of a faerietale goblin. With a hiss, the girl whispered out the name of a spell. "How... DARE you, you little~! Flipendo!" She shrilly exclaimed, conjuring a burst of white light from the tip [WDC11, Wisdom 22; TP1 (Trigger), Redirect Johannes] of the wand, exploding outwards and instead of striking the target over her instead streaked towards Johannes Sauer once more (this poor kid couldn't seem to catch a break from these accidental targetings, could he?). However, just as before, stray strikes rarely made good, and with only a small maneuver that was just a tad too close for comfort, Johannes escaped the ire of a powerful Flipendo [Accuarcy 16 v. EM7 Evasion 18] (mostly by the assistance of his loyal silver arrow) and continued to fly for another day.

With a snap, the Girl lunged towards Colin herself, shaking the boy off of her with minimal effort as she ripped his hands away from her windpipe. "Filthy, nasty JEALOUS child!" She hissed, her tongue curling inside of her mouth in a serpentine way. With indigitation, she got to her feet until she was able to stand over Colin, angling her newfound cherry and dragon heartstring wand down at him. He had gotten in her way; someone always wanted to get in her way between her and her parents. Between her and the paternal figure that she wanted the blood of and nothing more. "I'll teach you to keep me away from my FaMiLy!" She snarled, turning the wand in her fingers despite the water dripping from her reddish hair and the greenish, foul-smelling smoke acridly swirling about the entire fray. "I DON'T NEED YOU! DIE!"

Last to the fray, Romeo Marconné would not be left out of this most incredibly violent fray. It seemed that it took quite a bit to get him upset, indeed, perhaps he did not like showing off his more aggressive side in front of his friends if he could help it... but it seemed that that half of him had been quashed in favor of lashing out with the intent to settle the scores permanently. Performing an (arguably) unnecessary maneuver, the hefty boy would find himself incredibly spry as he tapped into his physical capabilities, using the axis of the gleaming antique Firebolt to swing his considerable bulk about and into making devastating contact right in the side of the Carrie-girl's head [Martial Artist Kick (-2 Accuracy, 1.1 Damage Multiplier) TP6, 37 Accuracy Critical Hit v. 18 Evasion; -673] right before she could incant another spell down at Colin. "AVADA-"

Iron-toed leather boot would connect with the Girl's head from behind with an unavoidably vicious attack that could not have been avoided if she had done her very very best. As others looked on, they would watch as the Real Girl's head would suddenly cave in from the right side to the left in the course of the muscular Durmstrang's strike; her skull crushing inwards with a palpable and sickeningly audible crunch. But the strike did not stop there; no, the momentum was much too strong for that. No, no; the teenage boy's foot would continue to carry on all the way through the girl's head, dislocating and severing spinal cord as the neck itself snapped and flesh about the throat tore away like tissue paper in a geyser of vermillion. The girl's entire head would fly off of her body, soaring meters away from where she had once stood just like an American football player scoring an extra point kick. Too much damage had been sustained by this creature for any sort of black magic that had reanimated it to keep it held together. Just like the doll that it had begun as, it now returned to its former inanimate state.

The body seized up as the head left it, standing completely frozen in the position that it had been interrupted in the middle of casting its final spell. The fingers twitched for a few seconds, the wand slipping from cold fingers and onto the ground. Vermillion pooled about its feet and around Colin himself, the scent of it only just barely being drowned out by the scent of the foul potion gas. The head finally rolled to a stop a ways away after having struck the back of one of the female partygoers. After a brief start, the girl glanced backwards (likely prepared to tell off the person who had dared to bump into her), only to observe the severed head on the ground rolling at her feet. Those nearby also stopped to look at the sight, unsure what to make of this potential decoration. Its red hair was matted, its blue eye (as one had been kicked out of its socket and had been flung a few meters past the head into a different part of the celebration) glassy and frozen open...

Until it blinked and snapped its gaze to meet the eyes of the one it had been kicked into."DIEEEEEE!" It gargled out a hiss, baring sharpened teeth as its eyes lit with reanimated life. "ALLL OF YOU!" Gnashing its teeth, there was not much it could do except feebly roll about. With a scream from the first girl, general pandemonium began to erupt among the (NPC) partygoers, causing them to immediately scramble and come to their senses as the most fleet of them ran for the exits to get away from this horrific bloodbath. At their heels would come the gurgled, hissing laughter of this red-haired, blue-eyed, lifelike head of this seemingly Real Girl whose body by now had collapsed to the ground completely lifeless now that it was without its commanding member.

The threat was indeed quashed... but the foul magic that kept it animate seemed unwilling to leave this one part of the once horrible object... something so desperate and so stubborn refused to accept its end; a mission so necessary to it that not even the throes of mortal death could hold it down.

The need for love; the need for the love of a mother and a father.

Taking advantage of the brand new hubbub of people trying to leave as quickly as possible, the little furry thieves continued to wreak havoc upon the partygoers who dared to stay behind to watch the ongoing garbage show that was going on just across the way.

An especially gorgeous and sparkly person caught the eye of a pure white fella [KE2, Wisdom 29]; Illowy Magnard. With scampering feet that seemed cause its paws to move faster than its body, the small niffler tried its best to leap up upon the body of the Slytherin girl, only to suddenly hear the crunch sound that was the foot of Romeo crushing the head of the Real Girl. Such a terrible sound caused the poor Niffler to shrink in fear, throwing off its aim most terribly [TP1 (Trigger)] and reducing it to a small and shivering state for but a moment before running off in plain sight.

The chocolate niffler, who had up to this point had exceptional luck in the realm of shinies seemed to have reached the end of its good luck, as it was unable to spot anything particularly interesting at the moment [KE9, Wisdom 14]. Instead of trying to snatch anything away, it instead tried to sneak back into the shadows so that it could make good on an invisible strike. While most people would not be actively looking for it, it would not be hard to miss if people wanted [Stealth 12] to try and spy it (particularly those who it had stolen from).

The more aged niffler, spry despite its grey whiskers, decided to go after a more stationary [KE5, Wisdom 18] target; Colin McCoire despite the stench in the area and the subsequent suffocating damage [-20] that it would take. With a slow and almost gentle waddle, Colin would become aware of a small tugging in his coat pockets; the niffer removed its paw from his clothes [TP2, Accuracy 15 v EM6 Evasion 12] with a handful of the bits and bobs that the Scottish werewolf liked to keep in his pockets. With almost a slow, meticulous sort of movement, the niffler put the items into its pouch with something that sounded almost like a sigh. After performing its work, it would look directly into Colin's eyes as if to say 'please don't make me give it back' and then slowly turning around and then plodding back into the crowd.

The biggest stinker of the bunch, this pitch Niffler seemed to be on a roll. Not only had it found a rather impressive shiny [KE4, Wisdom 24], but had also managed to snatch it away from Koldovstorez student Kamila Yavlinsky without her noticing [Stealth 18 v. Perception 8] and without her being any the wiser. As Kamila would probably note in a few minutes... the bracelets that had once been on her wrists (you know, the sparkly ones) had suddenly vanished! What in the world?!

Lastly, Samantha Salwis (having returned from the event) finally noticed that her jewelry was missing. Oh goodness gracious there the thief was now! In plain sight! It was that old grey niffler that was milling about the crowd! Get that niffler! Give her back her jewelry, you rogue!

Niffler: A magical beast with a long snout and a coat of black, fluffy fur. They are attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating treasure, but it also means that they can wreak havoc if kept (or let loose) indoors. Nifflers in general are usually harmless.

OOC Guidelines:
Reducio
Welcome to the 2022 Fall Ball Faerietale Endings. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just a few reminders and guidelines so that we can all enjoy our happy and/or tragic endings!
  1. Make sure your ducks are in a row when trying to perform an action! State when you are using an action and or an ability (so I can keep track of limits on the use of ability), name allies/enemies if required by an ability, state in your roleplay if you bring certain potions and items (organizing these as well as statistics and abilities in a reducio at the bottom of your post is helpful so that I can note them for ease of moderation, but you are not obligated to do so).
    - To perform statistically related actions, you have to be registered in the Index and must have a Trunk with statistics and abilities.

    - To cast spells, you have to have them in your trunk and must use the EXACT INCANTATION; failure to do so will result in an automatic critical failure on casting and a subsequent backfire!

    - To use a potion, you must have the potion on your person (stated in IC roleplay) and have the potion on hand in your trunk (OOC). When using a potion as an action, you must send me the potion (so I can affirm in moderation that you have used it), and I in turn forward it to the Game Master account (as a papertrail).

    - Any attempt made to perform more than one Action in a round (cast a spell, perform a statistical check, make an attack, imbibe a potion, etc.) results in an automatic failure of the second action and may be accompanied by a backfire/adverse effect.
  2. In your post, state a performed action (so I can moderate you properly). If you change locations, state that you do so in your post as your action. Yes, it does take an action to leave the ball and move to another location.
  3. IC, this area is being watched over by @Piérre Marchonné & @Aurelia Notresvace.
  4. Follow rules of the site; no godmodding me, other players, etc. Keep it PG-13. Be polite. Etc.
  5. If you have any questions on actions or disputes on moderation rolls (I am human), feel free to contact me via owl or Discord (check Piérre's encyclopedia for the username).

    Do try to enjoy yourselves...

Well. Wasn't that unexpected.

Taizu had been half expecting his attack to miss again, as his flame had been missing constantly through this fight that he had simply thrown himself into. It seemed that all he well and truly needed to have in order to be more prepared was control his emotions. And that was what he did. It did come as a great relief of course when the attack finally did land home, even if it was dampened by the water just summoned.

And thus it was still quite a horror when the Demon child's face began to warp and shift into that of it's true self, looking less and less human as time went on. Or at least, that was what it looked like to Taizu. He really only saw the jagged teeth that were clearly not human, and he made his assumption just from that. And the way it snapped at Colin... Taizu felt his anger start rising again, and prepared to cast another Fire-Making Spell, when suddenly, the creature had lost it's head.

Taizu blinked uncertainly, not knowing what he had seen. It looked like the girls head had vanished, but upon second glance, it was revealed that it had instead been kicked off by an incredibly powerful blow to the temple. His eyes followed the still rolling head, and instinctively his body began to move towards it, not sure what had happened.

And then the head started screaming in rage. Now that was what had been unexpected. Taizu saw the crimson blood pouring out of it's head, and felt disgust, unease, and fear for but a flash, before his face returned to it's calm state. Squatting down next to the screaming head, Taizu Tapped his wand on the puddle of blood pooling around the head and said, "Scourgify." With his spare hand, he reached down to try and grab the head and hold it in place until a teacher could come and get rid of it.

It was strange. He hadn't felt this calm ever before. It was almost like fighting made him more in control of himself, at least slightly. Glancing at the head, Taizu said, "Peace, restless spirit. You waste your dying breath screaming death threats at those you cannot harm."

For some strange reason, pity began to grow inside of Taizu. Why he wasn't certain, but the poor creature had lost it's head, and was... Maybe dying? He couldn't tell. It looked as if it had plenty of anger to keep it around still. Looking at it uncertainly, he said in English, "If you want, I'll be your friend while we wait." What drove him to such words, he didn't know. Maybe that pity lurking inside of him made him do it. Maybe he just wanted to comfort himself by thinking that he could be a better person if he did this.

As the barefoot knight and Queen of all Candyland, Ileen, ran into the fray, she brought a gift courtesy of Piérre: a curtain of garotting gas. Valentin, among others on the battlefield, began to choke from the biological weapon. Valya’s eyes watered as his left hand reached for his throat, his right still clutching his smoking wand. Such reaching did nothing to alleviate his suffering in being unable to breathe, as he had to maintain his aim at the hag doll locked under his body-binding. After choking out the words to recast the spell again for good measure, Valentin allowed himself a moment to twist his pain into concentration. What an aptly named potion, “garrotting gas”, he thought – indeed, it felt like strangulation with a garrote. Deciding that the sensation of choking was quite a preferable flavor of agony compared to others he endured on a regular basis at his militaristic home academy, Valentin smiled as he choked. He was so used to being the captain of the skies and shaping himself to the flow of Stribog’s winds, suddenly being removed from control of his natural proclivities felt refreshing and novel. Strangely, was the gas adding to the perilous moment’s fun?

With appreciation at Johannes’s cast of the bandaging charm at Romeo, Valentin nodded as the actions of others sank into his hyperfocused mind. Valya could feel it, the adrenaline. The captain never wanted any harm to come to Romeo, yet, Valya couldn’t deny a certain excitement in fighting for someone so dear to him. What other mission could be even half as important as this? The attacks of allies around him worked in concert with Val’s binding, combining with a strange peace to unravel the threat to Romeo’s life: for Valentin, this was true music. The music beyond melody and rhythm, the battle of Life for survival – this was what called to the white seeker. Was it all because of how Durmstrang and his comrades at the school of dark wizardry shaped Valentin? Or was it, rather, due to his neo-gladitorial perfomances as a star quidditch seeker, performing with his team before audiences in the modern magical colosseum? Perhaps both. One way or another, battle stirred something in Valentin more grippingly than his everyday hours of methodical, repetitive dedication… especially when it was his co-captain on the line.

“Hold tight, fiddler!” yelled Valentin to Colin as he saw the great muscular architecture of Beater #4 descend upon his bloodthirsty attacker. The blur of Romeo’s Firebolt, blacker than black, shimmered like a mirage as he shot at full speed with a kick directly into the Real Girl’s head [crit success]. Iron-toed boot separating the girl’s head cleanly from its body, the accumulated power of all of Romeo’s years of training showed their true magnitude. The co-captain of the quidditch team was indeed one of the strongest at Durmstrang, and not only due to his gigantic size. As Valentin watched with fascination, he knew the dedication that went behind creating such beautiful strength. Yes, Romeo was magnificent in this moment. Valentin needed only to sit back and watch the battle end as the entire team enabled the conclusion granted by their powerhouse.

When it was clear the hag doll no longer presented any threat, Valentin swept alongside #4 on his Silver Arrow and threw his arms around him. It hadn’t been a long engagement, but lives tended to end within minutes of a fight. This was one of the reasons that spurred Valentin to train his speed harder than anyone else: the knowledge that in only a short moment, the entire world could fall away from someone he loved. The White Immortal squeezed Romeo close, thanking Stribog above through laughing tears through the burning in his throat.

“You were SO AWESOME!” Valentin had a good sense for how much Romeo could take, compared to others especially. The frost captain knew him not only firsthand from martial sparring, from Quidditch, from Horntail, but also from years of particularly close observation. “I know how you fight, Romushka, and that was just beautiful. Really. It’s amazing how you not only have reached such a height in your training, but how you clutch so hard under pressure.” Laughing with joy at Romeo living to see another day and with gratitude for the symphony of the team’s contributions, Valentin squeezed #4’s shoulder with his smaller frame and couldn't hold back the joy of his smile.

You're being selfish, Valik, the seeker chided himself. Not wanting to make Romeo wait a moment longer, the white immortal pointed his wand at the wounds bound by Johannes’s ferula (sliding the wand under the dressings if necessary).

A suppressed curse left Ileen's lips only seconds after she had wafted the poisonous gas from the innocent crowd to the dangerous creature. It really was a choice between healing and attacking. Even when she was defending people, she was still hurting them.
The studendts around it did not run or fly away from the creature, but towards it. And the girl, who was actually just trying to help, sent the poisonous cloud directly at the fighting heroes.
Frustration and despair threatened to overwhelm her, as when she had dragged her lifeless classmates up from the dungeons and only made things worse. But this time she wouldn't let that happen. There was no time for self-pitty or remorse. She had to act.
Gritting her teeth, she raised her wand again, ready to send the cloud outside into the night for real. "Ventus!"

Hopefully she did well this time.
As soon as she had completed her task (hopefully) she whirled around to face the Gryffindor who had leapt out of the cloud beside her (Pierre). The shouts and screams that rang out to her made her blood run cold, but first she had to get help.
"Did you inhale that stuff?" He was still standing, so it couldn't be too bad. "Wash your eyes and mouth out with clear water and then go get some more. we have to help them!" She was in do mode and became very bossy.

But she would not wait to see if her classmate followed her instructions. Instead, she grabbed her wand and ran to the group that was gathering not far from her. The screams had grown louder, but she saw no one fighting. Was it over? But someone had left a puddle of blood on the ground and she would not let her classmates bleed to death. Running barefoot over the stones with her bloody feet, she probably resembled the creepy creature more than a human.
Her brown hair had come loose in unorganized curls that bobbed around her head. She headed straight toward the next figure (probably Colin). "What happened? Does anyone need help?"

Gahhhhhhhhh... the smell was just... In. His. Nose! Trying his best not to gag too much (again, at least it was a marker that he had done well in his brewing), the boy felt the magic leave him in a brilliant arc of pressurized salt water (as the hardest pressure of water that the boy could think of was indeed that of his homeland of Italy and its high saline content) that evoked a shiver of confidence through the Britalian's entire body and encouraged his aim to shiver just a few inches; a small gesture that caused his aim to perfectly impact the foul creature without harming Colin (funny enough yet another boy he had actually kissed, so haha!) in any way. With a self-satisfied nod as he finally caught his breath outside of the foul-smelling mist, Piérre pet Figaro gently and encouragingly; the poor little munchkin had experienced more than his fair share of trauma already. Piérre didn't want to make the kitten suffer any more than he already had.

There was the scream of the beginning of the Unforgivable Killing Curse that was cut off by the sound of tearing flesh and crunching bone. Piérre's head snapped towards the source... but between his watering eyes and the thick fog, the poor kid could not longer see much of what was going on in that specific area of the party. Well, that had sounded the opposite of good. He didn't want to guess what had just happened there... either that thing had gotten its comeuppance, or perhaps Romeo had gotten messed up... Truthfully, Piérre didn't want to consider the second option, but he knew his brother well enough to know that it was likely that his brother was not fragile. Even if the source of the sound had been his brother, Piérre highly doubted that it would have caused his brother to go down.

The girl in front of him spun on a dime to confront the boy, which elicited a small jump from the unprepared Britalian. Wide green eyes were fixed with curiosity at the suggestions that were being given to him, and when the orders had been given the boy blinked slowly once. Had they... had they even met before? Well, she certainly looked about his age... but she possessed an extremely mature persona for her young age. "Uhhhh..." Piérre started with a small edge of confusion in his voice. Before he could continue, however, the girl breezed off as if she were a breath of wind that carried on wherever it wanted. "Wh-okay... good talk?"

Piérre made eye contact with Figaro. "What do you think that was all about, buddy?" He asked curiously to his familiar. Figaro fixed him with weary eyes that had collecting mucus and tears and then sneezed.

"Ohhhhhh poor baby..." Piérre coddled his little familiar, taking his cat into both arms and cradling the poor creature. "Did you get the nasty stuff as well? Here, come on, come down. I'll get you all fixed up." He put his familiar on the ground, who promptly sat down and lowered his head, sneezing again. Piérre began to trace a pattern in the air again, another water spell. "She said that we need to wash ourselves with pure water... I know a water making spell..." Piérre fixed his gaze on Figaro again. "So I think we have to reschedule your bath for right now, I guess..."

Mind racing still at what could possibly be transpiring behind the veil of green gas, Piérre instead focused on trying to call his magic to himself and produce a stream of clean water with an incantation of ""Aguamenti!"

With a small, almost sad, meow, Figaro stood still and lowered his head, no doubt ready to get doused off just like any soldier who had ever gone through a tear gas chamber. Piérre cooed towards his familiar sympathetically, but he knew that he had to take care of his creature more than his creature wanted to stay dry.

Italian cussing, don't click the revelio unless you wanna see it <3
"Andate all'Inferno e salutate il Diavolo! Go to Hell and give the Devil my regards!" I roared as my foot struck true. I was now totally convinced that this was not a student as I heard the incantation of a Killing Curse. This convinced me that this was not even a human but rather some level of dark creature of multiple X classification with a dangerous knowledge of spells. As such, I wasn't taking risks on letting it live for much longer than it had to. I intended to knock it out, knock it down, make sure that it was containable whenever an adult felt like coming by and collecting its pieces.

What happened instead shocked me even as a burst of disgusting offal-smelling gas rolled into the area and caused me to choke for a second after I followed through with my strike... or rather, I should say that my foot continued to tear through the place of my impact. Looking on in horror in my front row seat of violence, I watched as my foot continued its path with around the same resistance as a knife cutting through soft butter. With hardly a complaint of resistance, I observed the head suddenly fly away like a bat out of Hell and strike a young women in the back. Face paling, I find my seat and grasp the handle of the Firebolt with an iron grip as my eyes widen in absolute shock. Oh my God, I had killed someone...! I had just decapitated someone. "Hhhhh-hhholy Sh-shiiiiit..." I breathed as little as I could so as to not inhale more of the toxic gas, coughing once and then trying to wave the air around me to clear the immediate vicinity.

The sound of screaming and panicking as many of the partygoers began to freak out over the fact that this head however caused me to listen and hear a very familiar shriek. The voice of the thing I had just decapitated, the body was still here, but the head that had flown off.... was still alive?! What the Hell? What in God's name was this thing?

I couldn't- I couldn't deal with this right now... I can't, I just I can't.

A pair of noodly arms, arms that I would have recognized anywhere at any time as I had myself taken hold of them to practice Alley Ooping our Seeker, wrapped around me from behind, causing me to go absolutely still as Valentin praised me for my role in this sudden scuffle. I could barely hear him, hear the endearing name that he called me by, over the sound of the shouting and the screaming of the voice of the thing that had bitten me; a bite that was causing my forearm to throb with the pain of being staunched by a tight bandage just tight enough to stop the bleeding but loose enough to let blood continue to circulate. Truth be told, I was still trying to focus most on trying to lower the amount of pain that I was feeling, that I was trying to ignore the sneaking sensation that I was going to get an infection if it wasn't treated soon. The feeling of those arms around me, though; not holding me back or trying to pull me away, merely present and affirming. A signal that the fight was done.

"Ho appena preso a calci la testa di quel cazzo di coso... Sta ancora parlando... Che cazzo.I just kicked that fucking thing's head off... It's still talking... What the fuck." I murmured, eyes still wide open and fixed on the location of that thing's landing. I didn't even have enough energy to speak English, let alone Russian. It had seemed so surreal... I had been bitten by some thing, a student who was a guest here at this foreign school. What in the world would this do to the relationships between Durmstrang and Hogwarts? Could I say anything, or rather, should I say anything about this? "E ' ancora vivo. Che cazzo... com'è ancora vivo? It's still alive. What the fuck... how is it still alive?" My voice was dancing on the edge between disbelief and absolute abhorrence. If things had not been handled this quickly, if I had not been swift enough on the wings of this Firebolt... "Non è umano. Cosa sarebbe successo... se quella cosa fosse davvero riuscita... No. Non sarebbe successo. Ach!It's not human. What would have happened... if that thing had really managed to... No. That wouldn't have happened."

I notice that Valentin's wand is drawing close and I can hear the incantation of a Healing Spell. Quickly, I unbuckle the vambrace from my right arm and gingerly grimace as I offer the bloodstained bandaged mess to my pale seeker. Already, the injury felt as tender as a severe bruise; it hurt to even extend my arm to have it slightly healed. What I would have given for some hydrogen peroxide and some Neosporin right at the moment so that I could peel back the bandages and take care of this the old and reliable Muggle way. Admittedly I did not like this sort of treatment, but in an emergency I supposed that it would suffice. "Thank you... Val." I finally manage with hesitation. "Thank you for being there... keeping it stunned."

I shouldn't have had to be taken care of... I should have been able to handle myself, and I probably could have taken care of myself after the fight had been finished by the rest of my comrades. Take care of the others first... I should be able to handle on my own... "Val, if you could, please go check up on Jojo; he had some pressure put on him back there as well." I focus on the head once more. "I've got one more piece of business to take care of." I speak to him calmly, thankful at least for Valentin's attempts. Before I think, I lightly grasp his forearm before he draws away. "I'll be alright; as you said, you've seen me fight." I try to muster a smile of confidence. "I'm not one to go down like a sack of potatoes, and I don't plan on starting today."

With a small, reassuring squeeze, I finally let Val go and instead fly over to where the head had been felled. A boy (Taizu) was already there crouched by it. Speaking loudly, but not accusingly, I pipe up as I dismount from the shiny black Firebolt. "Stay away from it." I state plainly, approaching it carefully. "Don't get too close to it; it could bite you too." I found myself impressed that the boy was not scared of this bloody head. In fact... was he... speaking to it? "We don't want more injuries if we can handle it... I highly doubt it wants to have a friend, as admirable as your optimism is. It's not a human, and it doesn't seem like any magical creature or being that I've ever seen or heard of. We are dealing with something bigger than what we can handle ourselves; something we shouldn't have had to handle to begin with."

So saying, I tried to edge towards the head in a way that allowed me to stay mostly in its blind spot. My fingertips edged towards the sword that was threaded at my hip. Nonfunctional though it was, peacetied so that I could not draw it, there was still a hefty pommel on the end of it, and a sturdy leather scabbard that I could quite easily handle with a bare hand if I had to. This I did intend to do, and as I loosed the entire sword from my side I tested its perfect weight in my hand, how the sword's blade was balanced and the pommel heavy enough to give it a defined torque that would be devestating if swung at high velocity.

With a hum, my brow creases in a mixture of concentration and consideration. Yes, it would have to be collected later... but it would not hurt to ensure that it was in a position of total helplessness so that it didn't dare to affect any professor or adult who dared to handle it. "Perhaps it's better to put it out of its misery..." With a bit of a look of disgust on my face, I spin the sword once so that the pommel was facing downwards like a sort of reversed stab (more like a crushing poise), and then bring it down as hard as I can upon the already partially dented skull. If I didn't manage to split the head open, this would at least stun it for a short time. If it still remained alive, I would plan on continuing to bash it in, just to ensure once and for all that it could not attack; that it could not hurt anyone else.

It was the least I could do for everyone else who still had the courage to linger at this damnable festival.

In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

The Banquet table was on fire.

The ground was covered in mingled blood.

Children of all ages between ten and eighteen were screaming as they almost trampled over one another in their throes to exit from the grasps of this doomed ball. Even those who didn't know what the source of the panic was were choosing to take to their heels and escape from whatever it was that was panicking the others. Only a spare few who dared to keep their heads were lingering behind and attempting to pick up the pieces left behind after the fact; after everything continued to burn and char into oblivion. This would likely continue until there was nothing left behind unless something was done about it, as the enchanted gramophone began to distort from the heat of the flames in the vicinity and thereby created dissonant quarter-tones instead of the former pleasantries of a moonlit waltz and the nighttime serenades.

@Piérre Marchonné, proctor of the party, would attempt to cast a laughably simple water-producing charm to clean out the eyes and bodies of himself and his familiar Figaro. Well, it seemed that he had wasted all his luck on his gambit to assist Romeo, and instead of producing a steady stream of water from his wand (perhaps it was because of his desire to sustain the stream as opposed to simply create a small burst of it as would be typical in the realm of dueling), a hyper-pressurized blast of water not terribly unlike the Aqua Eructo [WDC13, Wisdom 12 Critical Failure] would explode from the end of his yew and snallygaster heartstring wand and almost send him across the entire Courtyard were it not for the one mercy that it decided to first almost wrench the boy's arm from his shoulder before subsequently blasting the kid into the ground and into a position where he was being forced to wrangle with this almost living water dragon of a 'wand-hose' with both hands (if he wanted to keep hold of the wand to begin with, that was).

Then again, the kid claimed to be a Jester. Surely not too much pride was harmed in the course of this action. Such an action would betray pride, and notoriously those with pride could never truly claim to be a proper jester; it would produce a singularity and would tarnish the reputation of the one claiming to be such a jester. Enjoy your pressurized garden hose, I suppose...?

By the side of this potentially demon creature, young Gryffindor @Taizu Miyashiro revealed a strangely compassionate side of himself as he approached it fearlessly and appeared to respect the plight of the creature by casting an almost flawless cleaning charm with a simplistic twist [WDC9, 27 Wisdom] of his beech and dragon heartstring wand and speaking to it in a soft Japanese voice. Peace, he wished to it, peace to this most vile demon and tormented soul. Peace to the thing that had never lived, and eternal painlessness to it in the midst of its suffering. Such a valiant soul, bold and peaceful in the same turn, calm and yet assertive. The makings of a great leader laid deep in the heart of this young boy, if such wisdom only grew and was properly nurtured... if encouraged. If affirmed itself. But such a future was still a ways away, and the boy still had much to learn; the true question was if somewhere along the path of his life such a pinnacle of leadership would be shaken, if that tower would fall. Who could say except for Fate herself, and those bold enough to take into their hands and alter the strings that She wove.

Alas, the head and the dark magics that it contained was not as interested in such words of mercy, and after fixing Taizu with blazing blue eye and gnashing goblinoid teeth, would attempt to bite that hand that 'fed' it despite its limited reach. However, such attacks would be futile, as Taizu would easily step away from it [TP1 (Trigger), 5, Accuracy 21 v. Evasion 26] and its still bleeding extremity as it quite pathetically rolled about. It still wanted blood, it still wanted to live and move and devour and drink. "I want to be REAL!" It snarled, raging at the fading of the enchantments. Already, its face was gaining cracks once more, as if the skin was reverting back into the porcelain that it had once been made out of. "I will be REAL! I WILL BE REAL!" Such rage, such lack of inhibition, such desperation that came from a thing that should not be real, that should not be alive... as if over the course of its bloody rampage it had somehow gained but a modicum of the human condition that it had desired, that it had lusted after for so long. Such conviction, if there had been any more human emotion or soul in it perhaps there would have been tears, perhaps there would have been wailing.

But for one such as this, there could be no tears, no sorrow, no regret. All that there was was greed and lust and rage. The only peace that this creature could have would be in the throes of death or destruction; a mere puppet being pulled by invisible strings at the hand of its creator, a creator of many of these dolls, a creator who used them without empathy for their fates. But a pawn. Only a pseudo-hand.

Hell-chaser Valentin Schnell began damage control in the form of healing the one among them that had sustained the most damage. With an incantation of the healing spell, the injuries beneath Romeo Marchonné's bandage began to close... but they did not just close with the natural healing energy of a normal spell; no, [WDC13, 38 Wisdom Critical Success, Romeo heals 70] Valentin had tapped into some deeper wellspring of magic within, a magic that went beyond a simple incantation and instead found its roots in empathy and the tumultuous waves of deep human emotion that extended through his finicky wand and into the process of restoring one of the ones that Valentin's heart beat for even as the Garroting Gas continued to wreak havoc upon him [-80hp].

Lady of the Moors @Ileen Knight took it into her hands after advising Piérre to spray himself down with pure water (which had obviously gone well and nothing bad had happen in the slightest), focused now upon trying to get rid of the remnants of the foul smog by casting a wind jinx once more. This was easily done [WDC13, Wisdom 18], and with this new, fresh blast of air, the Garroting Gas blew into the skies and was lost as a green mist among the stars. Now but one of the hazards located about the Courtyard had finally been dealt with.

Romeo Marchonné intended to extinguish another; the head of the Real Girl that was wailing and snarling at Taizu. Arcing the pommel of the peacetied Italian longsword that he had just been gifted that night by Valentin Schnell after giving out a short warning and monologue about how this thing was better off dead, a bone-crushing swing was brought down upon the helpless head [TP3, 30 Accuracy v. 17 Evasion] with disastrous results for the target. Prone, slowly reverting back into its former glass-like state, the Real Girl was helpless as the full strength [Strength Check 34] of the Italian Durmstrangian completed his total blow. With an earsplitting scream "I AM REAAAAAAAAL!" and the Real Girl's eye widening in the first trace of fear, both were horrifically cut off as the pommel smashed her head open with the sound of shattering glass as if it were nothing but a crystal watermelon.

Perhaps the most disturbing part of this was that there was to be found nothing within the 'cranium'. Indeed, though it had been flesh, blood, bone... there had been no 'mind' within it... only the shards that it had been contained within. All that remained were the messy red fragments in sizes ranging from a pinkie finger's pad to something around the size of a fragment of a cantaloupe shell. Certainly enough to be picked up and analyzed (preferably by a staff member), but free and open for the taking. Crimson smeared the ground as the last scream finally petered into the skies after the mist of Garroting gas and Piérre's little 'hose party'. It would be heard all the way in the Hospital wing where @Lily Brown was finally being rapidly treated... [Death Save 15, Success]

... She would pull through, thankfully.

As ghosts tittered among themselves and whispered that it would probably be better for them to take their leaves; drifting through the walls leading back to the castle or into the ground so as to reach the dungeons easier. Some others looked on at the spectacle with some pity in their eyes, sighing among themselves at the impressive strength and fortitude of the children remaining there. They would have gossip for a while, this was for certain... and other ghosts who bore armor and weapons sharply turned about and returned to their posts about the enormous Scots castle, thoroughly entertained by the happenings of the attempted Joust and then the impromptu fisticuffs that had occurred thereafter.

Yes, this place was now totally abandoned, even by the ghosts.

However, the little mischief-makers were still at work, and many of them had managed to spot something right out of the corners of their eyes [KE 10(Trigger), 5, 5, 10(Trigger)], while the other two had mixed results [Wisdom 28, 14]. It seemed that with most of the general hubbub from the other disinteresting members of the party, the ones with the most precious sparkling metals or metalloids became more easily visible and therefor much easier to target.

For the single one that had been unable to spot anything of interest, that aged grey niffler sighed as it retreated into the darkness, trying to ensure that nothing it had stolen for the night was going to get taken stolen back. The little furry mass vanished [Wisdom 14, Stealth 15], evidently to resurface some other day... or whenever it spotted something of particular interest to it.

On the other hand, the other three nifflers were off to make their own trouble, starting with the snowball of a fellow who had found a very pretty-looking silver ring on the finger of @Thomas Lestrange. It would have no way of knowing that that little piece of jewelry was responsible for maintaining the beard that was on the face of the barely (pre-)pubescent boy's face, for it was more interested in the way that the light caught that artifact. Despite a valiant attempt for it [TP10, Accuracy 26], it was almost as if Thomas had sensed the incoming attack before the niffler could make good on it, just barely jerking his hand out of the way [EM2 9 (Trigger)] of the pure white creature before it could bite the Much Mustachio Ring from his finger.

The brown niffler, unfortunately, had decided to bite off more than it could possibly chew by finding its target to be the metamorph @Alan Vanes to be the most delectable target thanks to that large and shiny golden clasp that held the Gryffindor's tunic together. Though it gave all of its heart and soul in the pursuit of getting its webbed paws on the gilt treasure, the willowy metamorph was too quick [TP5, 23 Accuracy v. 37 Evasion] for it. He twisted gracefully out of its reach and caused the poor creature to tumble across the ground. When it came to a stop, the furry animal shook its head in shock once, getting to its feet and shaking its entire body, and then ran away, no doubt in an attempt to find another target who happened to be less nimble than this one.

Aiming (perhaps) to outdo its fellows, the jet black niffler struck where the iron was hot; or rather, where it had been hot, as it targeted Part-Goblin @Serena Towers' beloved pet Pizza Rat's beautifully crafted armor. Unprepared for the assault, the rat would squeak in surprise as a shadow seemed to become animate and leap upon it with paws extended and bill open wide so as to strip the poor creature of its adorable couture [TP8, 27 Accuracy v. 3 Evasion], skidding away and leaving the little animal possibly quite traumatized from the potentially near-death experience. With a small noise of excitement, the Niffler contentedly stuffed the armor into its pouch alongside the other goodies it had nabbed from others that it had successfully targeted before gaily leaping off to do more trouble elsewhere. Moonlight glistened on its shiny fur almost as brightly as the moon's near-full light upon the fountain, and the party it left behind was left to fall to pieces as it took its leave.

So... this was The End of the ball.
Or at least, this was the end of this part of the Faerietale.

How unfortunate that it came to an End such as this,
But to be honest, did you really expect anything else?

Niffler: A magical beast with a long snout and a coat of black, fluffy fur. They are attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating treasure, but it also means that they can wreak havoc if kept (or let loose) indoors. Nifflers in general are usually harmless.

"Hhhhh-hhholy Sh-shiiiiit..." stammered Romeo in shock at what he had done. Before he could take another breath, Valentin pulled up behind and wrapped his arms around him, praising his fine action. Romeo’s bewildered Italian began pouring into Valentin, and although Val understood less than half of the words, it was enough to convey the beater’s state of mind. Valya felt it all, took it all in, and made the emotions his own. He drew his wand then, his mouth softening into a smile as Romeo unbuckled his vambrace. With a clean shot at the bloody carnage beneath the peeled-back bandages, Valentin laid his wand’s black-smoking tip to the wound and opened his lips, only to stop. A strain of dissonant quarter-tones from a warped gramophone, distorting in the heat of flames, was weaving repeatedly through Valentin’s favorite note – the very same as he’d heard that day in the Hexiwizard pre-game when laying eyes upon Romeo. He could almost hear that melody from the night he gave away his most cherished possession, below the stars and falling ash of exploded fireworks. That gunpowder smell still seemed to tickle his nose, or was it the burning of the scene around them now? Looking up into Romeo’s cerulean eyes, the melody returned to him again.

Valya’s stomach clenched as colors spiralled through his head, circling into the end of the musical phrase that should turn on its way to the next passage, but… it never quite completed whenever Val tried to summon the missing notes. Pieces of his past, a melody from his mother’s haunting siren voice, and pieces of… couldn’t be, his future? Val closed his eyes, Mediterranean blue burned in like an afterimage. The melting gramophone’s quarter-tone, the sound of the flames, the feel of a knot in his back, as if a boot were pressing down. How did the song go? What was the note?

Reparifors. The spell came out of Val’s throat, spilled from his wand, without his intending to. Like in his peak moments in quidditch, he was not in control of himself. He was but a tool of something higher, and opening himself to the sounds and smells and sensations, a current of energy flowed like hot electricity out of Valya’s wand. Here was Romeo, and he was hurt, but he couldn’t stay hurt. Valentin wanted him to stay here, with him, forever... safe, happy. So happy. If only he could…

Valentin opened his eyes and watched the healing magic curling through the ribbons of Romeo’s flesh, pulling the boy back together. The seeker wanted to be that arcane power, the very magic holding the other boy together when the world tore him apart. Closing his eyes with a sigh, Valentin’s wand began to glow white hot as he listened to the sound of the gramophone.

Per sempre, Forever, whispered Valentin in a trance. Nei secoli dei secoli. Forever and ever. With a ruby red glow inside his arm, Romeo felt the healing intensifying beyond any Valentin had managed before [critical success]. Per…” drowsed off the seeker’s silver voice. He wasn’t sure how much time passed before hearing his co-captain’s voice.

"Val, if you could, please…"

Awakening with a start, Valentin shot his eyes around him in a rapid scan. Piérre was dancing with a water jet. Safe. He's okay. Valentin wasn’t sure why he was even worried, but… Then, as Romeo’s words finally registered in his head, Valentin turned to look at Johannes. Their keeper had dodged an attack and suffered only minor choking from the garroting gas. Val’s head was only turned away for a moment, but it was long enough to feel a much-more-damaged Romeo pull away to swoop after the hag doll’s still-talking head. The frost captain pushed his broom to hurry after him, only to catch a gasp of suffocating gas in his throat. It was either the poison, or to not breathe at all. Which would it be? The pain made his eyes water and the sensation of being unable to expand his lungs accelerated his heartbeat with an influx of adrenaline, but nothing could stop Valentin from remaining at Romeo’s side now. Onward he flew, breathless, towards the remains of one that tried to kill whom he loved most. He was not about to stop the beater from putting the wretched doll out of its misery... real girl or not. With time, choking gasps returned to Valya as his eyes drank it all in.

Romeo took his historical longsword, sheathed and peace-tied as it was, and proceeded to pommel strike what remained of the homicidal effigy into oblivion. Valentin hovered nearby, blood splattering on his snow-white face from the close proximity, watching with a gaze of pure ice. Undeniably, the arcing of the blade under Romeo’s grip made for a lovely demonstration of physics. After all, even the frost captain had a type. [8] Why shouldn’t the blood-soaked white knight fit the augury? There was just something about Romeo’s internal crisis paired with the beauty of his violence that left Valentin spellbound. The beater’s armor only made the scene all the more picturesque to Durmstrang's star seeker, and Valya couldn’t help but remember how #4 looked that thundering day in London.

Still, even with the dark puppet's screams, Valentin felt her pain reverberating inside himself in full force. At last Romeo silenced her, shattering the skull with the sound of breaking glass, but her message played on repeat within the seeker. She was real. Real enough for Valya. He wouldn't deny her that. Yet, he would let the real girl die now without remorse. Romeo's life was beyond negotiation. For whatever moral complexity usually haunted the captain, the black and white of Valya's unconditional guardianship underlay everything he did, as untouchable as another plane of existence. Romeo's life was his own, alone.

With a solemn nod to the broken girl, Valya wrapped his arm around his co-captain’s shoulders. It was over. Leaning his duckfluff-haloed head against one large bicep, Val brushed a spatter of blood from his eyelid and sighed. So much for the tournament. Now neither of them could grant the other’s wish. The first round had even ended with a tie.

Let her majesty keep the jacket if she wants, thought Valentin with a glance towards Ileen, hoping she would get warmed up soon. What good was her date after all this? Ugh, I’ll never forget his smarmy face.  Whatever. Guess I'll have to get these rabbit ears professionally cleaned.  So much for only helping from the shadows. It's just so hard to let Romeo go… I just... how could I ever? I just... I just want him to be happy.

“Let’s go get the blood off you, Romeva,” soothed Valentin as he stared into the mess that remained of the hag doll. She could no longer pose a threat to anyone like this. Valentin buried his face in Romeo’s arm to stifle his sadness. I believe her. She was real... Just, why can't I believe that I'm real? What, of everything I feel for Romeo, can ever be real like this. Buried inside, stifled, impossible to burn away like a weed that longs for the fire. Rome was innocent. Is innocent. He deserved a nice, pleasant ball. I wish I could have given it to him. I wish I could be real to him, but for now I... don't really think I exist. Like this, I'm not really me. It's like Charles said long ago, we are like illusions flickering within a darkened looking glass... I will never become real, like this, Rome and I alone together... I can't take the pain, alone. It hurts...

“Let’s go home.”

Valentin's eyes began to stream, but he covered his face with his hand and looked away. Shunting down the gasps burning in his garrotted throat, the seeker wept as silently as he could through the lingering constriction of his chest.
