Faerietale Endings Fall Ball 2022 Locked

This was one of those moments that lasted an eternity. Although the two boys had just approached her, it felt as if she had been standing here for a very long time, still holding the blue jacket in the air in front of her.
Her head was spinning, but when Percival had grinned at her, she had automatically returned the smile. Now his mood seemed to have changed. She hadn't had time to answer his request to dance, because they had been directly interrupted. He simply grabbed her arm and pulled her between the people.
Ileen flinched involuntarily when his warm hand met her ice-cold skin. At the same time, the blue eyes moved away and averted their gaze. With her contact with Percival, he disappeared back into the darkness.
Stumbling next to her date, she looked over the shoulder once, desperately trying to pull him along with her, but he remained in the shadows, looking at her from a distance. A lump formed in her throat and for a second she was about to break away and run back. But the hand on her arm resolutely led her forward.

And so the memory remained at the edge. At least for the moment. The warmth of the boy's hand sinking into her skin made her realize for the first time that evening how frozen she was. She could almost no longer feel her feet.
Her eyes searched for the white knight, but she could no longer see him. If Percival would stop, Ileen would carefully put on the blue jacket and then lay her hand in Percival's and her other on his shoulder.
Her dark eyes searched his gaze - looking for confirmation. For security. Escape. Help? They had already been through so much. Would he stand by her? He could be her rock, interrupt the maelstrom. Ileen swallowed hard to get rid of the lump and goose bumps ran up her arms. Something would happen today that would change everything.
The young Slytherin tilted her head, just in her right mind and completely in this world - she felt as if she was watching the spectacle from the outside. "Is everything all right?"
Funny she would ask that. As someone who came to the ball barefoot and was more in another world than this one.

Her gaze jerked back through the crowd, searching once more for the blonde girl he had been defending. Perhaps she would address her later.
Looking for the blonde her attention was caught by something else. Red sparks were casted into the sky nearby and another shiver ran down her spine as she looked over there. How did she miss that? There was fighting, screaming, casting... and blood.
Ileen landed back on planet earth with a boom. All her confusion was pushed back as the natural healer instinct kicked in and took over. Her grip around Percivals hand tightended and she pointed over to the chaos. Suddenly there was an urgency in her voice and her mannerism. "Do you see that? Quickly, we have to help!" If he allowed it Ileen would drag Percival though the crowd to the fight.

Percival was not too sure what exactly was going on with Ileen. It seemed as if she was far away from him. As if she was not really there, and he was about to dance with a mirage. The boy swallowed thickly unsure how to proceed. He was no stranger to what balls at this school meant. Something always went wrong, and something always seemed to be set on fire. He himself had crawled out of the burning tent only a few years ago. He could not lie that that last part did not bother him as much. It had thrilled him to see the fire push the boundaries of safety and death. The way it crackled and roared was mesmerizing. It drew him in as if he was nothing more than a dog on a leash. How badly he wanted to be surrounded by it. To let it consume everything it ever wanted.

The boy licked his lips slightly a smile pulling to his face at his thoughts. Maybe it was not too late for a little bit of fire. Besides, people's screams were always funny to hear. Percival would glance back towards Ileen with a slightly worried look. He would pause his walking, and he found his heart skipping a beat as she placed a hand upon his shoulder. Oh right...he had almost forgotten she was here. A conflict brewed beneath his skin as he debated. Mulling over the idea. Weighing the pros and cons. Which side had more? At this point, he was struggling to truly see. Want was starting to outweigh the reason.

Percival blinked slowly at his date's question his brows furrowing slightly before nodding at her. "Of course. I am here with you, am I not?" he offered in a slightly playful tone. A more genuine smile would overcome him as he took in her soft features. Though, his smile would be wiped away from his facial features as she looked away in a quick jerky motion. The boy blinked in confusion as he too looked towards whereher gaze had been whisked away from him.

Oh...

It seemed like today's ball would be like any other ball. A determined frown overcame his face as his gaze focused on the blood that had been spilled onto the ground. He was not too sure how he had not noticed. Though, in his defense, he had been preoccupied with the fantasies that had overtaken his mind. A part of him could not help but feel bad that he had led Ileen into this. Despite the small twinge of guilt, he found himself feeling giddy. As his arm was grabbed and he was pulled forward he could not help the smile cross his features. Sure he had wanted to dance with Ileen and be a proper gentleman, but he would be lying if he said this wasn't more fun. Pulling out his wand he would hold it tightly within his fingers. His shirt flipped in the rush of air as he willingly followed after Ileen. Between the two of them, they had two different goals for tonight. One was innocent and the other not so much. It shouldn't really matter as long as they are obtaining the same goal.

Percival would slow down slightly as they approached the fight. A disgusted look would cross his features as he looked at a girl who appeared to be covered in blood. Despite being almost surrounded, she seemed to be holding her own with ease. Casting spell after spell, and dancing about the other people. It seemed that she was causing problems, and everyone was being too slow to actually stop her. Percival readied his wand taking a small glance toward Ileen.

The Courtyard had, from the start, seemed the only logical place to hold a ball such as the likes of the theme Faerietale Endings. What sort of Faerietale did not in some way incorporate the beauty of a twilit sky, or the delicate sparklings of the silvery stars overhead? The usually drab grey stones of the courtyard appeared almost silver in the almost entirely full light of the waxing moon, just one night away, and every tree and shadow appeared to have a slightly more angular and harsh edge because of Luna's soft yet intense glow. Soft birdsong, difficult to tell if magically or mundanely made, cooed in the black and whispering branches, and a soft, brisk, and rather chilly wind (11 degree Celsius/52 degree Fahrenheit) rattled branches and encouraged the older among the trees to groan in their own eerie melodies. A better evening could not have been asked for save the Highland cold, and tonight in particular seemed to gleam with a mysterious magic of a non-wizard origin.

Sprinkled about the environment lay trademarks of several better-known Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm Brothers fables. Within the courtyard fountain was a small recreation of Thumbelina being introduced to a repulsive toad groom. Opposing it on the far side a single large frog with a golden crown sitting on a lilypad sat with one of his "arms" extended as if to reach out and take a lady (or lad) by the hand for a tender kiss. Both of these floated freely in the water, bobbing here and there and guided by the current of the fountain water. Tangled upon the walls of the courtyard were thousands of blooming flowers mixed with sharp, prickly black thorns. Any self-respecting wandmaker would recognize a collection of well-trimmed blackthorn bushes off in one corner, though these appeared to have been grafted with a rose bush, for there was one red-blooming bush and one white-blooming bush. Not too far away from these was a pile of shoes, mostly leather and rough in make, but both a single "glass" shoe for a young woman barely glittered underneath its mundane fellows and a pair of bright red shoes stuck out like sore thumbs. High up in the tallest tree sat a stuffed plush golden goose in a nest that was angled so that all could see large golden eggs, the prize of most any kleptomaniac to be sure. Underneath a willow tree sat poised a collection of plaster swans, one of which was a small, downy, ugly grey fellow being embraced by one of the larger, more magnificent ones while a family of ducks watched on. Similarly, faux ravens looked down at both the scene below them and outwards towards the main congregation of the celebration with quiet eyes. If a student brushed close enough, it would magically animate, extend charcoal black wings, and have its eyes glow red with an accompanying "Caw, caw, caw!" emanating from it.

Fairy lights (glowing by the bioluminescent light of glow bugs) would offer an almost unnoticeable glow when compared to the light of the moon, their only purpose being to highlight the already bright and colorful bursts of spectrum that were found in the flowers and the leaves of the fall-blossoming plants. Tiny, real fairies, likely drawn in by the color and the ethereal nature of the environment fluttered about here and there, playing with the plush animals or perusing the nearby feast that was laid out. They giggled in a lightly buzzing tone, gesticulating and teasing with one another by pointing out the students that they thought to be less-dressed or less than impressive in their attire than themselves. Other fairies were more content to sit by the water fountain and meddle with the frogs thereon, whereas others flittered in the trees and danced in a way that caused loosened flower petals to be whisked into the air and produce a waltz of their own design.

The warm orange glow of the setting sun cast upon the vicinity had set the courtyard in a picturesque far back in time. As if reliving an old painting from the renaissance or within one's imagination of fairytales brought to life. With the sun disappearing into the horizon and giving way to the shadows of Autumn's early evening, the bronze candelabras on tables and strings of starry fairy lights that hung across the walls of the courtyard would shed light throughout the event, albeit with an almost eerily flickers.

The tables around were dressed in dark linens, with a neat display of silver goblets and silverware set upon. At the further end of the courtyard stood a rather coniferous juniper tree with claw-like branches that cast its shadow on a long rustic mahogany table displaying a delicious array that was to be feasted on. A large brass pot of simmering savoury stew, an impressive platter of pudding and pies of the sort, and a deep bowl of a rich burgundy red beverage to serve with the many intricate goblets that cluttered the table. By the table was a wooden bucket swirling with apples bobbing on the surface, green, pink, red and yellow. Any hungry souls could help themselves to a share of food while it lasted.
By Aurelia Notresvace
Light, mystical music drifted through the air; not sourced by a band or instrument easily visible, but as if by ghostly, phantasmal, omnipresent nature, encouraging couples to dance freely in the central, clearing of the courtyard set aside for a dance floor. Already there were a few of the native ghosts of Hogwarts finding themselves at home in the company of the antique surroundings, as they whispered to one another about their lives and their deaths alike, with especial couples somberly drifting to and fro in a silent waltz among the living and evoking an accidental chill if one came too close to one with still-living flesh.

An eye drifting to the right of the celebration would observe a collection of ill-sprinkled Bernie Bott's Every Flavored Beans, which would lead to but one of the activities of the night...

On the left, a collection of pumpkins of all sizes, faux rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other small woodland creatures would guide anybody who was curious enough to investigate their trail to sights and experiences of the most magical degree...

The night was young, the moon was nearly full, the food and beverages were set. Mystery and trickery hung thick in the skies as an air of excitement, grandeur, and the remotest tingling of trepidation laid eerily present in the vicinity. The 2022 Fall Ball was now begun.

Dancers, Entrances/Exits, & Interactions
Sensing (for an admittedly righteous reason) that this party had essentially gone south, @Beatrice Dupont felt that now was her time to bid adieu to the doomed festival and to take her compatriot @Rani Adler with her. Thinking only a moment for another friend or at least acquaintance of hers (@Irena Sousa), Beatrice would take her leave from the celebration and make her way back to the most definitely safe and not dangerous as all Slytherin dormitories. It wasn't as if that house had a reputation for being the epicenter of most of the dark curse outbreaks that had plagued Hogwarts in recent years. It certainly wasn't as if anything worse could happen there than what had happened tonight.

But I digress, good night to you two. Try to sleep well and don't let the hags bite, if you would forgive my turn of phrase.
Unless there is complaint from Rani, both Beatrice and Rani EXIT the Ball

On the other hand, @Edme Achillian and @Avery McCall were still enjoying each others' company, and yes Edme, you do look like a splendid princess. Avery suggested that the two of them explore, indicating to (one) of the paths leading away from the Courtyard. One would take them to the Grounds and the Petting Zoo now in chaos, and the other would take them to the Owlery and the little party game that had been set up for the students there. Which one were they intending to go to? Well, time could only tell, but until someone explicitly stated that they wanted to go there as their action, this moderator can't make any assumptions because I do love watching all of you having a good time together and would never wish to see any of you leave.

That being said, fire is slowly spreading from the Banquet table and it might start to get out of hand if you're not careful? Just mind yourselves and don't get burned too badly, okay?
Apples & Goblets
Were the worst of the potions coming to a close? Yes? Ah, excellent. Besides those that would need a direct countering by a Restoration Draught (or the like), it seemed that the potion effects were all dying down... for now.
Nick Iris: Shrinking Solution (+3 Evasion; disadvantage on Strength Checks) Endures until nullified
@Serena Towers: Befuddlement Draught (Animosity towards everyone) Endures until nullified
@Amelia Miller: Sleeping Draught (d2: 2 [-3 Wisdom]) Amelia Miller is now Unconcsious
Quentin Gagné: Laugh Inducing Potion (d6: 1 [-25HP, -2 Accuracy]) Potion Effect Fades
By and by the laughter would die off for Quentin, leaving his sides sore. Whoever said that laughter was the best medicine wasn't really lying. It must have certainly felt good to just let loose and let out those wildly enthused emotions, especially if Quentin happened to be one of those edgy and stoic types.

Poor poor Amelia Miller would end up joining Illusia Bobich on the floor of the Courtyard as the Sleeping Draught finally hit her full force and made it so that she was no longer able to keep her eyes open. Darkness would surround and cocoon her like a warm blanket and Morpheus would begin to revel in her mind as sleep became the only thing that she was capable of. Good night, sweet princess. Hopefully someone will wake you up before the party ends so that you don't have to spend the night in the cold Courtyard or something.
Ileen's Shadows
@Ileen Knight would find herself distracted and unable to focus on much other than her own thoughts, much to the displeasure of @Percival Rainwood, who seemed to have his own vendetta against Valentin Schnell giving his date something to keep herself warm with. A respectable and commendable feeling, the sense of a young man to take care of his girlfriend and to protect her from the sentiments of others that he felt undeserving of her, though he would begin to notice the brawl that was brewing, and the subsequent shedding of blood that came from it. Driven to both settle it and perhaps interested in discovering the source of the commotion, Percival Rainwood would take matters into his own hands and enter the fray.
Percival Rainwood is in combat with the Real Girl

Meanwhile, Ileen would search the shadows for something; an elusive ghost that had left her far too soon. Alas, if only the moderator could permit her closure on such things, but that is unfortunately not meant to be between the will of the dice [Perception Check (Wisdom & Sixth Sense) 16 Critical Failure] and the ability of the moderator to expand upon the Grand Story that their higher-ups have in mind. All this moderator can do is say that Ileen may have felt that she saw something there in the darkness... but the extent of that apparition's powers in her subconscious mind would be limited only to gut feelings or to whatever it was that she wanted to see most... perhaps it would be better if she didn't see anything at all...

The madness of the Real Girl would continue without cease, and indeed it seemed as if nothing, not even a temporary petrification, could stop her deadly onslaught. While @Shiawise Mamori held her action with the intent to rescue Scotsboy @Colin McCoire in the occasion that the girl elected to go for him instead of her original target, Colin himself had other plans. With a show of werewolf bestiality, the boy would pierce the Real Girl's flesh with human teeth, tasting blood as he managed to wrangle but a fraction of his true wolf's power into dealing harm [CP5, TP8; Auto-Hit due to Petrification, [50 + (10 x 4)]/2 = 45 damage) to this evil creature. Such a show of violence seemed to similarly ignite something in the Girl herself, as she shattered the feeble Petrification Curse restraint put on her by Valentin Schnell in a show of pure willpower [Strength DC 10; Real Girl Strength 24, -3 Evasion for this round] in exchange for finding herself a tad more sluggish and unable to as easily evade. With an unearthly scream that became partially a gargle due to the unwanted blood in her trachea, the girl clasped a hand to her throat as her blue eyes wildly flicked about for her target.

And there he was, already barreling towards her on a broom instead of flying away on it, the damn fool. Taking advantage of this situation, the Girl twisted away from Colin with a feral snarl that allowed her to bare blood-stained teeth, and instead leaned into Romeo's attack as well, allowing her to slip past the stiffly-built boy and gain access to the very arm that would try to come in to choke her. With a flash of teeth, she sunk deeply into his forearm [TP7, Accuracy 22 v. Evasion 18, 270 damage & 100 bleed on Romeo's turn until bandaged], leaving a brilliant red crescent now dripping with sanguine where her ivories dug into. It tasted marvelous to her. More. She wanted more. MORE!

The Real Girl would be helpless to evade as Romeo snatched her up just as easily as a highly trained Chaser snapping up a Quaffle [TP9, Accuracy 32 v. Evasion 13], but it would be in the holding of her in a way that permitted the boy to choke the life out of this (arguably lifeless) creature that would prove the more daunting task. Despite her size, the Girl was arguably one of Romeo's equals in strength, and it was a general rule of thumb that if someone could ensure that they WEREN'T in a position of strangulation, they would take any means necessary NOT to be in that position. Romeo wasn't counting on this thing to be stronger than his twin, apparently. With almost laughable ease between her natural strength and perhaps the added factor of Romeo's new arm injury [Chokehold Escape 71%; 19, Success], the Girl slipped from his hold and made a three point landing on the ground just a few feet below. With a snarl, she licked her fingertips of Romeo's remaining blood before being affronted with her next flying terror; Valentin Schnell.

Sensing perhaps that if he could keep this menace under control by constantly keeping her slowed (regardless of if she stayed petrified by his sub-par magic), the albino elected to cast the Petrification Charm again, just to make sure that she stayed down. Not affected by the fears which surrounded the area due to more than a few reasons of his own, Valentin would strike the Girl just as easily as she had bitten his heartthrob co-captain [WDC16, Wisdom 32 Accuracy 33 v. Evasion 23, 50 damage & Petrified for (1d3: 3) 2 Rounds], paying blood for blood as once more the girl let a small shriek escape her as she tumbled to the ground completely incapacitated by such a simple spell.

After being completely disappointed in the thanks he received for what he felt was a splendid party that he had put on for the enjoyment of the school, the unfortunate Romeo's brother Piérre took matters into his own hands by the use of a rather potent potion; a Garroting Gas. While he had the obvious intent to throw the said potion over towards the location of the fight, it seemed that the Mistress of Misfortune wished to pay him a visit instead of lovely Lady Luck. Instead of managing to land his throw (a laughably simple endeavor) anywhere near the fray that he had intended the green skull-corked bottle for [TP7, CP6 Accuracy 16 Critical Failure, Piérre takes 10% his HP (60) at the end of his turn while in the Gas], Piérre instead somehow managed to magnificently jumble it up and had only managed to shatter the vial near where he stood himself, cloaking his own form as well as several others in the most noxious gas imaginable. Sulphur mixed with the rotten eggs that a raccoon had eaten shortly before passing away and rotting for 2 weeks under the full sun on a walk of hot pavement covered in pig's waste had nothing on this bad boy. Piérre would be overwhelmed by the scent, and both he and the immediate crowd around him would REALLY feel the effects unless they cleared out right quick.

Well, at least we have crowd control going for us, huh?

Bilingualism is a beautiful thing, especially when you are highly emotional and are struggling to remember which words and which sayings belong to which language. @Taizu Miyashiro would indulge in this same most amazing sensation as rage filled his tiny body and exploded from him in the form of yet another (and you know what they say about the third time being the charm and all) Incendio being screeched from him among a damnation of Japanese towards the horrific monster that was this Real Girl. Yet, even as the Girl fell and found her limbs being reduced to uselessness because of Valentin's spell, it seemed that she had just enough control to ensure that the spell [WDC11, Wisdom 25, CP3, TP5; Accuracy 24 v. Evasion 27] barely missed her before she crashed to the ground. What a frustrating circumstance... though Taizu may soon discover that the lion house dislikes being mocked, and that their pride can be as equally a gift as a shortcoming. Tease a Gryffindor? You'll find a spell with twice the gusto coming for you head on.

@Lily Brown, the first victim of this Girl, though being taken to the Hospital Wing as swiftly as Simon Kincaid could manage, was beginning to show signs of slipping away from the realm of the living now that her adrenaline was wearing away and her blood was dripping out of her. She would fail her first [Death Save 4, Failure] death saving throw, leaving her at 1-1 no bias... Just a little longer, little one. You will pull through...

Probably.

Some of these furry platypus creatures were having a better time at finding pretty things than some of the others. Still, that didn't prevent any of them from causing a bit of trouble as it was.

The little white-furred fella, though taking care to steer clear of the flames, found that the crowds of screaming people made a perfect environment to poke around [KE6, Wisdom 18] and just pick up easily accessible shinies from the ground without a fight. Looking up every now and again just to make sure that nobody was going to try and hurt it, it was more than satisfied with picking up pieces of jewelry that had accidentally been thrown from small wrists or fingers in the hubbub.

Its brown-furred friend, however, seemed more apt to start trouble, having spotted [KE5, Wisdom 27; Targets Regina Miller's Diamond Crown] a gorgeous diamond crown upon the head of @Regina Miller. Though it had had the advantage of stealth, the critter was noticed just a tad too soon [TP9, Accuracy 22 v. Evasion 26] for it to make good on its scrabbling shiny attack, and its poor little webbed feet would tangle briefly in Regina's hair, pulling it a bit and alerting the terrifying Gryffindor girl to its presence. For the time being, the crown was safe... and Regina would witness a brown Niffler taking to its heels and trying to flee back into the crowd.

Though it was difficult to tell if this niffler was naturally colored this way or if it was simply older than its much spryer counterparts, a grey niffler certainly proved its mettle not only in being able to spot [KE7, Wisdom 26] a gorgeous set of sapphire jewelry on the throat and the ears of @Samantha Salwis. Clearly visible though it was, that did nothing to deter it from its intent to snatch away those prettily cut gemstones. With surprising ease, the little fella managed to make a very successful snatch [TP3, Accuracy 17 v. Evasion 15] with its bill and claws in tandem. Snap went the necklace and gone were the earrings from the body of the Ravenclaw girl. Into the pouch they went along with the pearl necklace it had nabbed earlier from Soraia and then the niffler ran pell-mell back into the comforting chaos that rippled all about them.

Last but certainly not least, the black niffler tried its best to blend back into the crowd, having had no luck in finding anything of particular interest [KE6, 13 Wisdom] during its brief look about. In lieu of trying to search for more treasure, it seemed to decide that the best idea in this situation would be to try to melt back into the shadows and to remain small and unassuming. With ease in the chaos that was the rapidly deteriorating and quickly conflagrating Faerietale Endings, the black niffler [Stealth 23] became one with the night to put it simply.

Alas, it seemed that this celebration was not much longer for the world... another Hogwarts party, I suppose.

Niffler: A magical beast with a long snout and a coat of black, fluffy fur. They are attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating treasure, but it also means that they can wreak havoc if kept (or let loose) indoors. Nifflers in general are usually harmless.

OOC Guidelines:
Reducio
Welcome to the 2022 Fall Ball Faerietale Endings. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just a few reminders and guidelines so that we can all enjoy our happy and/or tragic endings!
  1. Make sure your ducks are in a row when trying to perform an action! State when you are using an action and or an ability (so I can keep track of limits on the use of ability), name allies/enemies if required by an ability, state in your roleplay if you bring certain potions and items (organizing these as well as statistics and abilities in a reducio at the bottom of your post is helpful so that I can note them for ease of moderation, but you are not obligated to do so).
    - To perform statistically related actions, you have to be registered in the Index and must have a Trunk with statistics and abilities.

    - To cast spells, you have to have them in your trunk and must use the EXACT INCANTATION; failure to do so will result in an automatic critical failure on casting and a subsequent backfire!

    - To use a potion, you must have the potion on your person (stated in IC roleplay) and have the potion on hand in your trunk (OOC). When using a potion as an action, you must send me the potion (so I can affirm in moderation that you have used it), and I in turn forward it to the Game Master account (as a papertrail).

    - Any attempt made to perform more than one Action in a round (cast a spell, perform a statistical check, make an attack, imbibe a potion, etc.) results in an automatic failure of the second action and may be accompanied by a backfire/adverse effect.
  2. In your post, state a performed action (so I can moderate you properly). If you change locations, state that you do so in your post as your action. Yes, it does take an action to leave the ball and move to another location.
  3. IC, this area is being watched over by @Piérre Marchonné & @Aurelia Notresvace.
  4. Follow rules of the site; no godmodding me, other players, etc. Keep it PG-13. Be polite. Etc.
  5. If you have any questions on actions or disputes on moderation rolls (I am human), feel free to contact me via owl or Discord (check Piérre's encyclopedia for the username).

    Do try to enjoy yourselves...

Ileen's steps became faster and faster until she finally ran. She floated across the floor like a ghost, not touching any of the guests, her eyes firmly fixed on the crowd. Cries for help and screams spurred her on.
She didn't just run to help. She ran to her task. She ran to her destiny. She felt no resistance from Percival and that filled her with warmth and confidence. He was always here. Always by her side.
And maybe in all the pain and chaos she would find someone else? Maybe he was there? Was he the center of pain? Did he guide her here?

Fragile hope filled her heart, yet with despair. And then she saw something out of the corner of her eye, a little aside from the hustle and bustle, over which she had not yet gained an overview. A figure in the shadows. A movement...
As if in slow motion, she felt Percival's hand separate from hers as she turned her head and stopped. Staying in the shadows as he stormed towards the light, leaving her alone on the edge of darkness to fight a fight she wasn’t ready for.
Helplessly, she tried to grasp what she had just thought she saw. Her dark eyes tried to pull aside the curtain of shadows with sheer force of will. She must have looked like a ghost in her white dress, her hair falling tangled down her back and she was clearly detached, peering into the darkness as if in a trance. A figure far from reality, on the verge of slipping over. Wanted to slip over.

Her bare feet were by now covered in natural dirt from the outdoor floor and blood. Someone left quite a puddle (probably Lily), but Ileen didn’t feel the moisture she stopped in. Everything around her was blurred out. Her right foot shifted slightly over the pavement, as if she had to finish a movement she had already begun. Damp with blood, her toe slipped over the stone.
And then an inhuman scream tore her from her usual unconsciousness and her head jerked around like a marionette that had been pulled too tightly.
She saw the flying knights, the one with a blood-drenched arm on which a human-like creature was hanging. Just at that moment it broke free and landed on the ground, blood on its little fingers.
Although they were still a good distance away, Ileen thought she could hear blood dripping from the larger figure onto the ground as it flew through the air, and the eerie figure stood out razor-sharp from the crowd.
The sudden smell of metal, blood, stung her nose and breathed life back into her. People needed her help! She remembered seeing this figure lying at the edge as a doll, but had not paid it any further attention.

Moved by the desire to help and finally pay her debt, the young Slytherin began to move. Everything had fallen away from her. Her task was crystal clear. Percival had perhaps understood it earlier than she had.

An attentive observer would spot something strange as the girl left the spot where she had been standing. Not only did bloody footprints now lead in the direction she had run. A single word was written above the puddle of blood. Written there fleetingly with a toe, using the spilled blood as ink. V I C T O R.
She herself did not turn around again.

While she was still feverishly considering how to help the flying wounded, she was suddenly enveloped by a fetid cloud of smoke.
"Percival! Slow that creature down!" she shouted, hoping he would hear her. That seemed to be their best chance.
Quickly, Ileen tore off the jacket and covered her mouth and nose with it. The gas smelled terrible and burned her eyes. Hastily she jumped a few steps to the side, until she was outside the stinking cloud. Her wand was already in her hand. It was not an active decision. This gas had to go. Terrible memories bubbled out of the darkness and tried to take over her consciousness, but Ileen forced them down. She would not allow this to happen again.
Concentrating, she assessed angle and distance, then raised her wand, ready to send the cloud on its way. "Ventus!"

Well that didn't go as planned.

Really he should have noticed something was of the second the potion grenade had left his fingertips, having lingered too long on the rotation of his wrist as he had tried to launch it towards the fray. At the last possible moment, though, something had gone wrong and had caused him to shiver a bit as the phial entered the skyward zone. The tiniest misplaced spin on the vial was enough to send it headed straight up instead of forward where he had wanted the potion to actually go, causing the crystal bottle to appear almost serene in its ascending arc directly overhead; catching the light of the moon and the appearing stars before gravity finally claimed it and sent it falling to the ground a measly three feet away from its thrower. And, just as by design, that potion smashed open the second it hit the ground and released the potent gas in a way that almost immediately caused Piérre to retch as the smell coated his tongue and throat. God, his eyes and his nose were burning! It felt like it was in his lungs. Holy cats!

Oh and poor Figaro, the little creature had managed to hack up a bit of something or other, cleaning out its stomach graciously onto the ground yet somehow managing to spare his master's clothing. Despite the God-awful smell, Piérre coughed and tried his best to pull the Beetlejuice jacket over his mouth and nose in an attempt to create an impromptu filter. Waving his hand, he focused his attention on his ailing familiar, and tried his best to stumble out of the gas. It seemed to have gathered mostly by the banquet table and a bit towards the fountain, so if he maneuvered himself skirting the edges of the party he would hopefully get out of the worst of it, right?

Through tear-filled eyes due to the sourness of that stench, Piérre hacked and coughed, and shoved by the now even more panicked group of partygoers so that he could get out of this horrible smelling area. Well, at least this was confirmation that he had brewed the stuff right. Potent, it really was. Maybe he had deserved it, the Jester. Rightful payback for all the silly nonsense he had pulled in the past at the expense of others; perhaps this was the karma for the FraGR he had invented last year.

Regardless, no matter if he had to run through ghosts or people, he was OUT of there. No way was he sticking around in the skunk stink cloud that he had left behind for the delight of others.

A loud roar of pain caused Piérre's head to snap back to the fight. He knew that cry, knew it by heart whenever he had wrestled and somehow managed to get the upper hand. That was the sound of his brother whenever Piérre had gone a bit too far with a punch or a scratch. Something had really hurt him, something had managed to break through Romeo's usual composure and pain compartmentalization when it came to taking punches or getting stunned from a well-placed blow. When he got clear, Piérre saw it; vermillion dripping down Romeo's arm and from his elbow onto the ground at a rate that looked not indicative for his continued good health.

Something, preferably the something that had done this to his twin, was about to get really hurt.

Ah, and there it was, on the ground and surrounded in close quarters. It almost didn't look human from the distance that Piérre was standing at.

Looks like someone needed a crackshot, as he heard someone casting Ventus nearby (Ileen). Fortunately, Piérre trusted his ability to cast spells and make them land more than he trusted his ability to handle potions. Hopefully nothing too bad would happen if he cast this spell to the best of his ability. Besides, if this really was a student, they would get the help of the hospital wing if they really needed it. The boy doubted that his weak magic could do much against it for long. "Dooooon't worry brother, Piérre's gotcha. Aqua Eructo!" He whisper-shouted, tracing the sigil of the spell in the air. If all went well, if his concentration was on point, perhaps he could just manage to make it a little harder for that thing to try and bite his brother again.

Green eyes glittering, he tried his best to stay out of his brother's sight. He didn't want to be seen, particularly not by whatever had just taken a chunk out of his brother's arm.

Mockery. That was all he could feel. He could almost see the mockery flowing off the doll-demon-human-thing, and it truly made Taizu angry. Angrier than he had ever been. So angry in fact, that he couldn't control his spells at all. The thing always somehow seemed to be able to avoid the attacks he threw, and nothing he could do seemed able to hit it.

As his third spell went awry once more, Taizu started trying to pull in the reigns on his anger, and started taking several deep breaths in and out and began chanting over and over, "Peace in mind and soul, peace in mind and soul..." Looking at his wand in hand for a moment, he sighed and stared back at the hated doll creature, his eyes now filled with a resolute and controlled anger.

Lifting his wand arm slowly, trying to make sure that he would hit the blood soaked monster, he felt his hand shake slightly in fear, but not of the monster. No, he was much more afraid that he would miss again and be known as a failure of a wizard. Taking one final breath, Taizu opened his eyes and looked directly at the Doll, and said calmly, "Incendio."

Dipping to evade the wave of motion converging on my assailant, I lined up my best chance at succeeding my initial grab. Thrown off her balance no doubt by having to shatter the effect of a bodybind curse, she was practically a sitting duck for me and my trusty white 'steed' of a Firebolt, the crook of my elbow easily hooking her around the neck and taking her a few feet into the air with me.

What I was not expecting, though, was for her to take advantage of the proximity between us and suddenly jerk her head in a way that exposed my forearm to her. In a second of realization, my eyes widen as a sudden simultaneous burning and slicing registers all the way up and down my arm. Clenching my right hand into a fist in reaction, I throw my head back with a roar of pain. Though nothing compared to the feeling of a million volts of electricity that had run through me last year when I had tried to fly both Valentin and myself back to Durmstrang in the midst of a lightning storm, the difference between these two sensations was that for one of them my nerves had been fried beyond comprehension and in this situation I was more than aware of my surroundings. A shrill squeal rang in my head for a moment as I tried to compartmentalize; feeling the teeth dig deeply past surface skin and deep into the tissue and muscle beneath. If I was lucky, it had somehow missed a major artery; if I wasn't... I was going to start bleeding out at a rate I was not comfortable with.

Sucking air between my teeth, my grip loosens just enough for whatever this thing was to fall from my grasp and back onto the ground. Gripping my right arm tightly with my left, as if by holding the injury beneath the source of the bleeding I could somehow cause the exsanguination to slow in any degree, I grit my teeth and growl under my breath, forcing a whimper out of my voice in favor of an enraged complaint and Italian damnation. "Figlio di puttana! Son of a bitch!" I hiss, watching the blood trickle at a steady rate down my arm, over my other hand's fingers, and then down my elbow and onto the ground below. I squeeze my eyes shut as I tighten both grips. "Porca miseria...! Dammit!" I complain.

But... this wasn't the worst that I'd been through. I still had more than enough piss and vinegar left in me to see this fight through; bleeding or not. Turning the broom on a dime, I glare down at the femme fatale with nothing but pure rage in my eyes. Quite a different Romeo was present in this moment, I'm afraid. The one that tended to see red, the one that shattered knuckles on brick and only afterwards cleaned his wounds. The one that was terrifying if crossed. The one that had lessons to teach in the form of blows and bruises.

This bitch was going to die, mark my words. She was stunned once again by Valentin's cunning bodybind curse. This was my moment.

With the rage of a thousand suns at my side, I closed the gap between us without missing a beat. As I came into rage, I suddenly turned the nose of the broom perfectly vertical and came to a complete stop, intending to use the momentum to spin me by a grip made with my still-working hand on the axis of the pole-like broom. With this motion, I intended to throw out my left foot, engaging in a sort of terrifying mid-air roundhouse kick aimed at this thing's head the second it got to its feet after breaking the bodybind curse.

In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Edme swayed around lightly in her dress, only really so that she could feel the way it went back and forth. Their mood had changed drastically since meeting up with Avery, and now all they could think about was what to do next. It was also so exciting, living in your own fairytale world for just a night.

The Ravenclaw nodded along to Avery's remark, still unable to take everything in even as the Hufflepuff waved around at it all. It was unreal in the sort of magical way Hogwarts always constructed their events. Even Avery seemed like a dream in this light, the way her hair looked alongside the dark red dress and tangled about in her crown of roses. The Second Year felt the flow of warmth and joy mix in with her still unsettled surprise.

"I can't seem to recall what we had done last year. In fact, I don't believe I even attended last year's Fall Ball. Being so new it was... frightening." Edme felt a small drip of worry touch their joy. Avery wasn't too overwhelmed, was she? This wasn't all too much? Avery had only been at this school for so long. "Uh, but, we could just take it slow." Their eyes scanned over the two paths, seeing which one would be the least hectic.

"We shall." She decided, grabbing Avery's hand and leading her off down one of the paths. Unbeknownst to her, this path was the one that led off to the Owlery, where a game would be commencing any moment now.

Returning from the game and trying to find the grey niffler that just stole her jewelry
She looked away quickly, a bit afraid of Bubba's reaction to the word boyfriend. There was an awkward silence for a few moments, while the brunette stared at the ground, waiting for her date's reaction. When she felt his lips on her cheek, her heart skipped a beat. DID BUBBA JUST GIVE HER A KISS ON HER CHEEK?! A dreamy smile appeared on her face as the blood rushed to her cheeks. Her hand quickly covered the place Bubba's lips had just touched like she wanted to check if it had really happened. The flustered girl turned her head to look into her date's perfect brown eyes. This was the best night ever!

"Yeah, I don't see how a doll could hurt anybody," she replied. It seemed a silly thing, afterall dolls were just toys. "Some people are just weird," she shrugged. "I once was on the Hogwarts Express with a boy who licked the window!" Only the memory of the other student was enough to make her disgusted. "Stephen sounds like fun," she agreed. The brunette listened carefully as Bubba talked about his time at summer camp. "Why did it remind you of home?" she asked curiously.

When the two prefects returned from the game, Samantha was glad to have found her date again. It had been awful being apart from Bubba for so long! It was way more fun to talk to him than to be running through a dark and scary maze in order to save him. On top of that, she hadn't even seen Elsian since the mischievous he had given her. She really wanted to know what he was up to.

As she just returned from the game and was distracted by her date's beautiful eyes, the brunette hadn't noticed any of the chaos that was going on in the courtyard. Only when she felt her necklace being ripped off her neck, did she notice the grey niffler. Her expensive jewelry disappeared before she could even register what was happening. Her necklace wasn't the only thing stolen from the young girl, her ears were also left empty. "HEY!" she yelled. "Give that back! That's mine!" she screamed as she tried to run after the grey creature.

She couldn't lose her jewelry! It had been a gift from her grandmother, who had made it very clear it had been quite expensive and she shouldn't lose it. "Where is that little thief?" Her eyes scanned the chaotic courtyard in hopes to find the little grey thief. Meanwhile, she quickly opened her bag and got her wand out of it. She would get her stuff back, one way or another.

NOTICE: This episode does involve quite a bit of blood and maybe some ancient magic?
Not Tonight Love, I Have a Headache
XII

Drat. The stupid monster broke free of the body bind after Colin bit into her neck. It wriggled violently in Colin's grasp and he found himself tossed about like a tiny boat on the deep ocean. He tried to grasp at anything he could --- hair, legs, arms, tattered dress, but the Real Girl managed to break free! She screamed as she got up onto her feet and Colin groaned as he smacked into stone paved courtyard yet again!

She bared her teeth at Colin and snarled before turning away to press her own attack. Her mouth was bloody, which made Colin smirk. He'd gotten a good hit on her, made her bleed the way she made Lily bleed. As he got himself up, he spat as much of her blood as he could from his mouth and wiped the rest with his bare arm. He returned the monstrous thing's snarl with one of his own, showing off his own proper fangs. Colin was not going to let this thing get away with hurting Lily.

The boy had never thought about actually killing an actual person before. But Real Girl was no person. She was a creature --- no, even people were living creatures --- Real Girl was a monster. A hideous counterfeit of a living being. Something dark and evil that had stolen life from his kin. Hunting this thing down was no different than hunting a hare. If it hadn't been for watching it try to murder Lily, he would have enjoyed this as much as any other hunting expedition!

No. This was different. No mere hunt. Even if this thing had flesh, he would not eat it. Her blood tasted bad. Metallic. Acrid. Chemically like a weird potion gone wrong. No, this would be Colin's first monster hunt. And its ending would either be his own death or the death of the Real Girl. Colin smirked as he took off after her again. It was not in his plans to be the one dying this star spangled evening!

"ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!" Colin roared as some boy caught the Real Girl up and began to take her away on his broom! "Come back here you wee red headed samhanach! (1)" He wished he could fly the way they said old Riddle could fly, without a broom, but even as he watched the other boy gain altitude, all thoughts of broomless flight fled his mind and he concentrated on the Real Girl --- falling back to the stones of the courtyard! "OWOOOOOOOOOOOO!" he called out with excitement! Somehow she'd managed to escape!

The chase was on again! He sprinted after the Real Girl even as she landed solidly --- but she sure didn't get far! The binding hex that held her before slammed into her again! Colin turned his head. He saw Valentin Schnell, the very Knight of Sweet Treats himself, had cast it with ease.

Colin turned back towards the Real Girl, maybe twenty feet from him. Time slowed. His breathing came deep and regular. Colin leapt. His target was lying flat out on the stone pavements. He pinned her to the ground, all sound and all sight of the goings on around him faded and his vision focused on the monster under him. Its red hair like Lily's. Its eyes like Lily's. Colin stared into the eyes of the monster. His face would be the last thing this monster, this horrible dark creature would ever see while she yet breathed.

And in her eyes he could just make out his own reflection in the moonlight. His nostrils flared and his face was drawn. He had no idea if the Real Girl actually felt fear or joy. Or was it just a manifestation of some evil kind of magic that had taken life? Nor did he care. The wolf and the boy balanced in his mind. Many people would say the same thing about him, that he was a monster. That he should be killed on sight. He had heard talk of werewolf hunts among his own clan members, and was pretty sure that being a relative wouldn't stop them from killing him. But he knew that werewolves were not monsters, not really. It was a magical condition. He stared into eyes of a thing was animated by magic. He thought it a shame that the Real Girl was evil to the core. That it could not be reasoned with the way a person might be. It's only desires were to harm and consume. To kill its victim and nourish its magic.

...while she yet breathed...

Colin smirked at the Real Girl again. He decided what he must do. Without a word, he flipped her over onto her front, and slid his arms around her neck, front and back. He spread his legs a bit for stability and rested his weight on the Real Girl's horribly warm body. He tightened his arms around her throat and waited. He prayed that this would end.
