CL BROOM RACING - HUFFLEPUFF vs. SLYTHERIN - FALL 2022

Aaaaand what was surely to come was exactly what Colin didn't want to happen!

Colin was zooming along and came at last into a patch of fresh air! Thankfully Percy scourgified himself --- Colin's nose shall be eternally grateful for that! The boy practically sparkled he was so clean! He was about to shout something to Percy, when he heard the Badgers shout out several spells all at once! What was going on! Colin heard thumps from behind, the sickening crunch of something hard smashing into a team mate's body. His thoughts instantly turned towards Vale, who was not afraid of anything that hurt and to June as this was her first race.

Colin turned his head slightly to sneak a quick peek, and instantly felt a sneaky and slithery slip of cloth bind itself around his upper face! One of those spells was obscuro! Suddenly the entire track was veiled in darkness, and Colin could only hope that he wouldn't smash headlong into something like a rock wall or a tree!

As Colin charged onwards, he began to feel warm wet drops pelting him! Is it raining, I wonder? Colin thought --- but "AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!! CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!" It wasn't rain at all! Blobs of hot, liquidy, stinky pigeon poop began to pelt the poor boy from every side! Ugh! Disgusting!

The stuff got into his nose! It got into his ears! It stuck to Colin's hair and embedded itself in Colin's clothing! One particularly punctual pigeon managed to poop right into Colin's mouth! Colin wanted to barf --- the hot slimey poop landed right on his tongue and he accidentally swallowed it! Colin gagged, but there was no way he was going to let a flock of angry birds or the stanky stench of Eau de Ravenclaw deter him!

Colin had no idea what was coming next, as he couldn't see anything and couldn't smell anything but perfectly putrid pigeon poop. He could hear the snapping of twigs ahead though, and before he could say as much as 'look out for that tree!' Colin smashed headlong into the dense thicket himself! All around him was the sound of racers and tree limbs colliding, and by the sound of it, the trees were winning!

"OOF!" CRAAACK! SMAAACK! Colin walloped himself on a huge limb and it smashed into his left shoulder! His head smacked into another limb! "UNGHGH!" Jagged branches tore at Colin's robes and shirt! They caught in his hair and scratched his face! Colin huddled down close to his broom, and good thing too! RRRRRRRRRRIPPPPPPP!!! Colin felt something sharp tearing across his back from his right shoulder all the way down to his left hip. He knew that drew blood! He could feel the warmth on his back. The tree also ripped away part of his racing robes!

Colin knew he needed to get this horrible blindfold off somehow, or else he'd end up impaled and dying on one of these trees! As he cleared the benighted forest at last, Colin heard a thumping sound behind him! Someone collided with something! Maybe a racer crashed? He thought he could hear June's voice from down near the ground. That's one, maybe two Basilisks out of the race! Colin thought. At least she was talking, and so wasn't dead or knocked out!

And just when things couldn't get any worse, Colin began to feel cool moisture on his face and body. Rain? Maybe --- no, drops aren't big enough. Tis much finer. A nice cool mizzle or maybe a fog to blind those not already blindfolded! The only problem, Colin soon discovered, was that all the hard and crusty pigeon poop that had dried into a solid cake on Colin's clothing was now softened by the moisture and turned into a damp sludge!

"AW! GROOOSSSSS!" More of the slimey poop got into Colin's nose and renewed its malodorous assault on his delicate sense of olfaction! The last thing Colin could remember seeing was Wyatt pulling ahead, but that was before the forest and the barrage of warrior pigeons and their weaponised poop! He could only hope that his fellow Snake was still somewhere up ahead!

A wicked grin lit up on George's face as he saw the plan coming to fruition. Jack's glee at knocking Vale off of her broom was somewhat unsettling, knowing as he did that at least some part of his sadism wasn't natural... but it served its purpose today. Serena once again showed that her spell casting prowess was best put to use on stationary targets. Nonetheless, it was satisfactory. There was, however, the issue that several snakes remained on their brooms and were currently getting the advantage in terms of distance. Hm...

This would take some improvisation to pull ahead. George was sure to take a break frmo thinking to blow a raspberry at the falling June, however. Nyehehehe!

Like a Javelin made of stone, Jack could feel the weight of his projectile as it flew through the air. The throw was off, but the luck of evil intent was on his side! The smallest tingles pressed against his ear's backside, and a malicious grin spread across his face as the crack of his thrown weapon hit its mark.

Submitted Plays

The game was certainly afoot. Violence was everywhere: spells firing without hesitation, makeshift projectiles being thrown and obstacles trying to knock them off. Serena was not shying away from the whole thing either. She was, however, struggling to actually cast today and fly through the obstacles properly. For some reason, everything she was doing was just failing. Exhaling slowly, Serena slowed her broom down a little to try and regain some control of herself and her surroundings.

Right, what did George say the strategy was? Okay, focus. "Immobulus!" She muttered with a wave of her wand, as she pointed towards the furthest Slytherin she could see. Her spell went zooming ahead but narrowly missed him. A sigh escaped her. Though she was glad that she could cast, at the very least. It seemed like slowing down improved her ability to think, which was nice.

Grabbing her broom, she managed to navigate through the fog and even managed to fly through the waterfall, without letting go. Okay, she was mildly impressed with herself at managing that. Her hair was now soaked but it was fine, at least she did fly through it without letting go. The pressure of the water had knocked her off before. It was a pretty annoying obstacle to try and pass but she was pleased that she managed to stay on. All of the broom racing practice was clearly helping!

This slender Scots Pine would make a fine Christmas Tree but this tree was modified with purpose. A metallic framed seat complete with windshield and stirrups has been added at the back, serving as the tree's counterweight. This sturdy, reliable tree that will definitely get the job done.

This broom is intended to carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. This broom can carry up to four users. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance. Returning users to their broom is a free action for the owner of the blue bottle, but those being returned to their broom need to use their action getting to their broom. Only one person can be returned to their broom as a free action (for the owner) per round, they can use their action to return a second user however.

Outfit of the Day

Sophie felt extremely satisfied with herself after she knocked one of the snakes off their brooms, so she tried to do it again except with a much older student. But before she got the chance to ram into anyone, another snake tried to throw a branch (or whatever it was) at her. The branch missed her and she missed her target.

Fair enough. She thought. Sophie ignored whoever (or whatever) hit the ground because all she wanted to do was ram into more snakesfocus on winning.

"Bloody hell!" Colin cried. "Let me get this stupid blind fold off! Smelling poop is bad enough, but being blind is worse!"

Colin grasped his broom tightly between his legs and began sorting out that blasted blindfold. "Obscuro, of course! Drat, where is the knot!?" His fingers probed the cloth of the offending garment. He found it at last --- buried within the folds of cloth. "Why can't it just be on the outside?"

After a moment of hard work picking away at the knot, Colin got the blindfold undone at last! It was still tangled a bit in his hair, but at least he could see again! He took a moment to examine the thing. The colours seemed appropriate for autumn, kind of all ---

THACK!!

"Oof!" Colin felt a hard cracking thump on his left shoulder blade. Something hard smashed into him! It sent him off balance! He tried to compensate by wriggling to the right and grabbing hold of his broom! He saw something --- a stone? --- careen off towards his left. One of the Badgers had thrown something at him and sent off course! He could feel his Silver Arrow nose down dramatically!

THOMP!!

"Unggg..." Colin felt another whomping blow to his body --- much worse than the first! A stone hit his head and everything went blindingly white for just a moment! Colin was sent reeling, somersaulting through the air and downwards. He was thrown completely from his broom, falling helplessly towards earth, where he would wind up in an unconscious pigeon poop reeking heap of bleeding and broken boy!

The bright white of the initial strike rapidly faded to black. Colin wasn't sure if he'd actually said anything or just dreamed it.

A last word before the world disappeared.

Things were still going quite well! Besides, of course, the spell that flew past his head, only millimeters away from its target. It could have been some sort of blindfoldy thing, but it just as easily could’ve been something worse. Wyatt was simply glad it didn’t hit.

Interacting with himself

Percival continued forth and managed to swerve out of the way of another spell, showing off the quick reactions that he was known for. His head snapped backward to see the annoying face of Jack come up behind him, and to say the least he didn't want him to come any more closer than he was. Flicking his wand back, he shot a spell that sent the boy flying off his broom to the ground "Prick..." he grunted under his breath in revenge for his fallen comrades. All he could do now was keep alert and keep ahead in the race.
