A plan was in place. Simon agreed that the Petting Zoo would be their next stop on this Faerie Tale Trail agenda of theirs and she was absolutely ecstatic to be seeing her first unicorn with him. She was also thrilled because, well, unicorns were to her what dragons were to him, and the idea that they would be able to actually see one, let alone touch one, was just astonishing. She hoped it would be a more magnificently dignified creature than her muggle upbringing had always portrayed them to be and not anything like the vomitously-technicolored and commercialized “My Little Pony” versions of unicorns marketed to sell to little girls. Yes, she had had those plush versions of the unicorn ideal while growing up, but all of a sudden she felt her heart ache to know that those visions were just a marketing ploy. AngelFyre knew that the real thing would not be rainbow colored but would likely be even more spectacular in its magnificence than she could possibly imagine. She was so excited she could feel herself begin to bounce sit next to him.

She smiled happily as Simon spoke about unicorn luck. “Yes, I am happy to take as much luck as is available to me to be took,” and she winked at him. She knew he would much rather it be a dragon they were going to see, but she had also read the same books he had. A unicorn would definitely hold some intrigue for him. One of the books, maybe more, had said that touching a unicorn…or a unicorn’s horn… could cure you of any ailment. Simon had never mentioned it aloud or otherwise to her, but she now could see that it was one of those secreted little bits of knowledge… or was this an old witches’ tale… that he had stowed away in his hopeful heart as a possible cure to his dhampirism.

She looked down suddenly as hot tears blurred her vision. Once again the same old battle reared its ugly head within her. She loved him with her whole heart… just as he was…for good and bad…undeniably and irrefutably. But he loved, what? Only half of himself? Even if touching a unicorn this evening would “cure” him of his dhampirism, what other changes might accompany that? Had he thought all of that through? What if it were to have ripple effects on his personality or his physicality in ways he could not anticipate and would not appreciate? Would he be happy then? Would she? Could it manifestly change his feelings about her? He saw it as a disease… an ailment. She just saw it as a fundamental part of his whole, beautiful, remarkable self. It made him spectacularly unique and interesting.

It made him Simon.

She reached up to brush away the tear that had begun to track down her cheek. Once again it broke her heart to know there was so much of himself he just did not like, let alone love. And once again it led her to wonder if his feelings about himself would change should they ever be blessed enough to have one, let alone 12, of their own children one day. He knew he would be passing his dhampir traits onto them. Would he feel about them then as he did himself now? No. He would not. It was not even a doubt in her mind. AngelFyre could not imagine Simon being anything other than the happiest, most loving and proud father in the world. She simply could not reconcile his feelings in any way about the family he one day hoped to have with the way he felt about himself. Would it take his becoming a father for him to love himself… his whole self? AngelFyre sincerely hoped not.

It was those heavy, oh so heavy thoughts tripping through her brain in that moment which were forcing her throat to tighten and constrict from the effort to not crumple into a bawling mess right then and there. She reached a trembling hand down for her goblet to take another sip of the deep, red liquid, hoping that would give her the few seconds she needed to reset and compose herself. No sooner had she swallowed than she was startled to hear Simon bark out “What the HELL?”

She looked up just in time to see him fling something that looked to be clinging to his finger to the ground. As her eyes tracked the object, it became clear that it was rat, a large one, and it, like her fellow, was not in a happy mood. It arched and hissed and Simon wasted no time in stepping in front of her. She was concerned that he might have been bitten and was so totally focused on him and his well being that she failed to notice the goblet in her hand was undergoing its own transformation. She reflexively stood and not thinking about it one way or the other would have likely dropped the goblet to ground.

As she reached her hand to Simon’s shoulder, however, she was shocked to find that the last semblance of what had been the goblet was undergoing some macabre change before her eyes. She was no longer hanging onto it, but it was definitely hanging onto her! Long, hairy, legs were clinging to her hand and fingers as the well of the goblet itself transformed into a large, cephalothorax with yellowish red eyes staring her down. The goblet stem disappeared as it transformed into the plump abdomen of a spider.

Her hand had not yet touched Simon’s shoulder so she swerved to the side, afraid the spider might jump onto him. She tried his nifty karate chop-like move in an effort to send the spider sailing, but not having his wicked quick dhampir reflexes (yet another of those traits of his she absolutely loved about her fellow!) the spider quickly moved from her palm to the top of her hand where it sank its venomous fangs deep into the fleshy area between her thumb and index finger.

It was by far not the worst pain she had ever felt, but it hurt enough. AngelFyre was far from being an arachnophobe, but what did have her spooked was the knowledge that she had no idea what kind of spider this was or what danger she might be facing from its venom. As soon as it injected its venom, AngelFyre’s hand began to throb with an incessant stinging kind of burn.

She had the presence of mind to reach for the bowl her stew had been in with the idea of trapping the spider within that so that it could be identified if necessary, but the bugger released its fangs and its grip and jumped into the shrubbery next to them before she could trap it.

Now she was feeling a weird kind of sweaty flush run down her spine. “Love, I -… I… think I need some help. Wh-… what do you know about spiders?” and she held her throbbing, swelling hand up for him to see.

Why the hell did it seem like every time he tried to be nice he got bit in the ass instead? Oh right, because everyone sucked, including the kid he had just saved. A scowl of disgust formed on his lips as the little rodent started to complain. "I'm rude? I just saved your face from meeting the stone work and you can't even bother to offer a thank you. What the hell is wrong with you?" If the girl was still relying on Felix for support, he would drop her like a sack of potatoes and step away from the new pain in his ass.

Yefim's spell attempt was... Well, an attempt. He wasn't crazy enough to point out the failure, given he was already on thin ice. "To be fair, you didn't know that when you plowed into her. She turned out to be a bitch, but she's still just a kid. Most of them need protecting because they're too stupid and fragile to protect themselves, so it's kind of up to us to make sure they don't get killed and don't end up sucking as humans. Might not be hope for this one, but there's no reason to go pushing the twerps over when you have nothing to gain from it. Why waste your time?"

The rodent was still scurrying about, squeaking her self righteous nonsense. Hadn't Felix just told him the same damn thing? Her continued presence was a plight on his evening and apparently she hadn't learned to count her blessings when Yefim's spell missed her. He was about to tell the shivering chihuahua (@Rani Adler) standing next to her to grab her and get lost when Yef decided it was a good time to practice swatting pixies. Felix reached a hand up, using his thumb and index finger to massage his temple. He bit down on his lower lip to keep himself from laughing. "Seriously, Yef?"

Extending his right arm, he would try to catch Yefim's hand before he could smack the girl on the head again, "Come on. I heard there's animals somewhere. Let's go find them." They could at least go and find Amina, who he had kind of ditched with that weird American guy.

Ooh, this was fun.
Colin was positively itching to find his lady love, and damned if Gem wasn't going to pass up this opportunity. She hummed and carefully took him by the hand. "Well? What are we waiting for? You've got your princess to find!"
Perhaps it was just the enchanting evening, but she was starting to feel rather giddy. She didn't know Clair all that well, but Colin got so passionate when he was in love. It was honestly really contagious. Gem envied him a little for it.

Wait... Gem paused for a moment. It felt as if someone was watching her. She peered around. Ah-- there was a boy with blonde hair, standing by himself. He didn't pop out at first, as he was dressed similarly to every other prince here, but it seemed as if he was staring right at her.
Their eyes met. Gem furrowed her brow and quickly turned away. Strange.
He had blue eyes. I always did love blue eyes...

Gem shook her head, laughing nervously. "Sorry. Thought I, uh, saw someone. Now we're going." She shot Colin a crooked smile and set off at a comfortably brisk pace.

Off they went, weaving through scores of royals, rebels, and beasts.
"I just got here, so I haven't seen much of the attractions," Gem said over her shoulder. "I heard that there's a petting zoo? Maybe Clair's gone to check that out." She spotted a uniform line of absolutely adorable animal statues in the distance. "Those look remarkably petting-zoo-appropriate!"

She giggled and eagerly sped up. Gem had never had the opportunity to visit a petting zoo before. Mum always thought of them as a waste of time. "So juvenile," she would say, clicking her tongue. "Why go to to some titchy farm when you could go to the London zoo?" Never mind her. She possessed more of a taste for the finer things in life. Gem had gravitated towards simpler pleasures.

"Let me know if you have any idea of where she's gone, since I'm flying blind here-- what the...?" Gem trailed off. She slowed her pace. A girl, probably a first year by the looks of her, was waving her arms around wildly.
Gem watched curiously. Was that a doll biting into her arm? What in Merlin's name was going on here?

Gladly both, Rani and Beatrice were spared from any more smacks on the head. She watched as the other boy talked to Yefim, seeming to try and get him somewhere else. She suddenly felt a pinch of guilt, realizing that the one who catched her had only tried to help her.

»Uh, wait a second.« She said to Rani, before hurrying over to the two boys again. She tapped Felyas - which was probably not his name - arm gently because she couldn't quite reach his shoulder. »Uhm, Sorry and uh, Thank you.« Beatrice stuttered before turning around and hurrying back to Rani. She didn't know why she suddenly felt bad about not saying Thank you, but he did seem much nicer than Yefim. The interaction felt a bit weird, but she also thought it was the right thing to do.

Beatrice turned her gaze back at her friend, putting on a smile. »Are you okay? Sorry, I didn't want to get you into this mess. Well, I didn't know it was going to happen, but you know...« she trailed off, her gaze wandering through the crowds while waiting for Rani to answer. Beatrice thought about what they could do now. She noticed the food table with good looking little pastries, but then again what if they were hexed? This was a magical school after all. Beatrice thought back to what she was about to ask Rani before being pushed. She blushed slightly at the thought of it while still trying to listen to Rani's answer.

»Would you maybe like to do an activity? I heard they offer different things for this evening. I believe they have a petting zoo, a pumpkin carriage ride and some game? Or we could just go eat something?..« for what she was about to say, Beatrice took all the courage she had. »Or perhaps,...dance?« Her face most likely flushed fully red in that moment.

Beatrice uncomfortably stepped from one foot onto the other, looking down between Rani and her. Then she looked back up into her friends eyes, smiling awkwardly.

The night air was electric as Ethan took her hand and led her out onto the dance floor. He could feel the warmth emanating from her skin, and her eyes twinkled under the moonlight. The other people in the room faded into the background; all that mattered was the girl in his arms. His heart raced as he pulled her close and they began to dance. He couldn't believe his luck that he was with such a beautiful and special girl. He was lost in the moment, and nothing else mattered.

As they swayed to the music, Ethan couldn't help but smile. He was happy just being with her, and he knew that this was a moment he would always remember. He would never forget the way she looked in the moonlight, and the way she felt in his arms. This was a night he would always cherish.

Ethan had never been much of a dancer, but he found himself swept up in the moment as he danced with the girl. He felt himself falling more and more in love with her with each step. “That was great," he said breathlessly as they finished. He chuckled, relieved that he had not stepped on her feet. It would have been embarrassing for him if he had. “Do you want to go to the pet zoo? There are a lot of pets there, and I think it would be really fun to see them.”

The rat hissed again, but remained frozen in its position. It was during this time that many of the spells and incantations that Simon learned in either Charms or Defense Against the Dark Arts went through his mind and he wondered which ones he might use. There was untransfiguration and 'Reparifarge," or maybe something with light even though that hurt his eyes a little. There was the Green Sparks Charm of 'Verdimillious' or the Red Spark Charm at 'Periculum' or even the Purple Firecracker Conjuring Charm of 'Violaceous.' Perhaps he could go the dueling route and use something he had seen AngelFyre practice so often like the Knockback Jinx of 'Flipendo' or even the risky Fire-Making Spell of 'Incendio.'

Knowing his wandcasting wasn't the strongest and that he excelled more in academics when it came to classes like Herbology and Potions, Simon decided to go a more practical and non-magical approach and stepped toward it. The rat remained frozen in position, still staring forward and its back still arched. "Get!" Simon yelled firmly, making sure to be assertive here. If the rat was going to do anything at all, it would lunge forward and he would block it from harming his date but perhaps he could scare it off. "Go on," he repeated, and this time he ignored the blood that was still dripping from one finger and clapped his hands together. The sound was not one that the rat liked and it backed away some. Simon stepped closer once more and clapped again, and this time the rat dashed off to the left and away from them.

He was just about to feel success when AngelFyre's words rang in his ear. It wasn't so much her words that caught his attention, and he would need to hear them again because he wasn't sure they quite made sense, but her tone is what captured his attention. The tone was questioning, wavering, maybe even a little unsettled or frightened. Did she just ask what he knew about spiders? Why spiders?

Simon turned around. "Spiders?" he questioned her. He was alarmed before seeing her hand because she looked both clammy and pale and those two symptoms could be a sign of overheating or that the body was in some type of circulatory crisis. She was raising her hand to him and he could tell from her eyes that this was the source of her worry, the source of her pain. It was swollen and he could see the puncture wounds, with some blood making an escape. He paused.

Dealing with his blood was one thing. It never had affected him and therefore he was pretty sure that dhampirs never drank other dhampirs blood nor did vampires drink vampire or dhampir blood. It was the freshness of human blood that provided the best nourishment and taste. He had his daily ration of blood that was required by both Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic so that his kind could remain students at Hogwarts, but it was such a small amount. Still, she would never be in danger in Simon's presence and this moment could not change that. Startled, for maybe a fifth of a second, Simon jumped into action, hoping that his countless books on medicine, magical medicine, and his first aid training in The British Boy Scouts would come to good use.

"Tell me what happened," he said calmly, taking her hand into his own and leading her over to an area near the snack table where they could sit, He wanted to get more information from her but also wanted to keep her talking and keep shock out of the picture. "And what does it feel like? Were you able to get a good look at it?"

He grabbed some napkins and some water and began pouring the water onto the napkin so he could begin cleaning off the hand gently. There obviously was redness and pain and swelling. "Do you have any abdominal pain? Any problems breathing?"

Judging from what he saw and his knowledge, it reminded him of a brown recluse spider bite - although they were commonly found in the Southern part of the United States and in South America and not the Courtyard of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Still, it would start with mild pain, then cause a fever and chills and body aches which could be the clamminess and pale skin. Maybe this spider was related to or somehow mimicked it and he looked for a deep blue or purple area around the bite, knowing it could then transform into a red ring around it.

Hopefully it wasn't that. Maybe this was just something that caused an initial reaction in her body from a foreign substance and she would start feeling better at any moment. Maybe she'd be back to her normal smiling bright eyed AngelFyre Afton McCubbin self in no time and he could get her to still see that unicorn. The unicorn..... could it help? That was a thought.

Once the area was clean, Simon brought his wand from his pocket. A good Hogwarts student went no where without theirs. "Ferula," he said softly, but confidently as he waved it correctly. He had been accepted that year into the Healing Internship with the School Nurse and this was the Bandaging Spell so that nothing would get into that wound. The School Nurse was definitely going to need to take a look at this, perhaps sooner, perhaps later. It all depended on how she was going to soon be feeling.

Hannah Blossom, they had met in the Library, she loved books a lot, she said her favorite book was The Tales of Beadle and Bard. He still hadn't gotten the time to read it, he realized he wasn't even sure he would recognize her, considering that she could be in a costume, he wasn't sure if it would be as unrecognizable as himself. He usually sun kissed skin hidden under white and pink make-up, his dark curious eyes replaced with cartoony green ones. Though under all the clothes and makeup, his smile and heart stayed the same. Edward had to compliment whoever created and planned the whole event it was really breathtaking, he smiled revealing the small gap between his large two front teeth, odd yet charming.
"Stories are the makings of our very child hood, so to forget a story is to forget to be a child," He smiled at the roses. "I wonder when she'll be here..."
He then noticed noticed a girl with long red hair, and unmistakably icy eyes... It was Hannah! She had her hair wrapped and perfectly placed with the additions of braids and a long blue dress. It reminded him of two of his favorite movie series, The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. Anyways she looked really pretty, she looked like an elegant elf. Edward walked over to her tapping her shoulder lightly with his bandaged hands.
"Hi Hannah," He grinned revealing the small gap between his two large front teeth. He held up the red-painted white rose bouquet he held behind his back as a surprise. He wondered if she would know that he was the Mad Hatter or not, hopefully she would. After he had given her the bouquet of roses, he decided to ask 2 questions.
"I love your costume or uh... outfit! Is it Hobbit?" He asked curiously, his crazy green contacts piercing her. He grinned at her. He looked around the fall ball, he saw that everyone as getting ready to dance, he smiled holding out his arm to Hannah, bowing lightly like a gentlemen.
"May I have this dance?" he smiled from beneath the brim of his dusty-brown, ornate hat.

Valentin smiled, noticing that Johannes’s witty banter was particularly sharp today. Of course my keeper is not only rising to the challenge, but excelling, figured Valentin. This is why he’s on my team. With a flourish of his hand and a wink, the captain indicated to Johannes to keep up the excellent performance.

Just then, a blow struck Romeo across the face. Valentin was no fool, knowing a strike from a gentleman’s slapping glove when he saw it. Spinning around, Valentin’s keen eyes searched the crowd for who was looking at them. There, not far, stood Piérre Marchonné, slipping the telltale white gloves into a pocket with a smug little smile.

“PIÉRRE!” shouted Valentin. Pushing off his back heel, Valentin was about to dash towards the jester to give him the Şüräle* treatment right when someone else walked directly into Val’s path. It was Percival Rainwood, although Valentin didn’t know him by name – the guy who had stood right next to Ileen and failed to give up his coat when she was clearly freezing herself half to death. The look in Percival’s eye told Valentin that he had business with him, and it seemed Val would have to catch up with Piérre another time.

“Can I help you?” Valentin offered the dark-haired boy, edging slightly to the side so that his body blocked any line of sight onto Romeo. The seeker didn’t know what Percival wanted, but the boy’s clearly hostile intent triggered Valentin’s most fundamental instincts. After Romeo had just been attacked, Valentin felt particularly on edge, and Valya was not going to let the hellfire in this boy's eyes reach his co-captain... no, especially not during the beautiful moment he had worked so hard to give his new white knight.

Jack was late and he knew it. He raced into the courtyard, panting, cursing himself and his nerves. It had taken him far too long to find something suitable to wear. So much for not being concerned with appearances.

For a ball with 'fairytale endings' as the theme, Jack guessed there would be plenty of young men dressed in the garb of royal princes. He didn't feel like going as a prince himself - not just because it would likely be a popular choice of costume, but because he could never have pictured himself as a prince. Or a knight. Or anything remotely so heroic. The fairytales he knew had many 'Jack's in them, but they were usually peasant boys out to seek their fortunes. So peasant boy Jack eventually decided to be. He just hoped Ye-jun didn't hate it; Ye-jun who was most definitely prince material himself.

As he glanced around, barely taking the time to absorb the amazing scenery and identify little landmarks of certain stories here and there, he hoped he hadn't kept his date waiting long. He wasn't used to having a date who wasn't Ruka and thus who he didn't think of as a brother. He was the one who had asked Ye-jun out and he should have been the one to be there first to welcome him to the ball, especially because it was his school who was hosting it and Ye-jun was a guest. Unfortunately, it seemed that ship had long since sailed.

Merlin's beard, he must be swarming with girls by now, Jack thought bitterly, thinking how the Beauxbatons boy must have been faring alone. If he hadn't been so anxious about his costume, maybe he could have given his date's feelings a second thought! What had he been thinking, allowing a little thing like that to make him late?

Determined to make it up to him once he found him, the redhead sighed in relief when he recognized the royal figure by the entrance and it was all he could do not to tackle him in a hug. "Ye-jun! I am so, so sorry," he apologized, running both hands through his disheveled hair. "I was stupid and didn't think about what to wear until the last minute. Are you okay? Haven't been hit on yet, have you?" The last part was spoken with a half-smile, for he meant it half jokingly, half seriously.

He gestured toward the feast laid out on the tables with the dark linen. "Are you hungry? Thirsty? I could get you something. Or if you're bored, we could check out one of the events happening. Bloody hell, I hope I didn't keep you waiting long."

@Bloom Silverton
Howard let Bloom guide him along towards the dance floor, even though he could sense his surroundings enough to make it on his own. Still, it felt so good to have his hand in hers and to know that she again wanted his company that he went along with it. For all he cared she could drag him wherever he wanted, just as long as they were together.

As they reached the floor they would come together like a pair of magnets. Bloom's arms would wrap around his neck as he wrapped his around the small of her back. He held her close, but allowed enough space for them to begin to move together with the beat of the music. For a blissful moment her head would rest against his chest as his heart beat with the power of love. It could have exploded the next as she stood on her tip toes and whispered those magical words into his ear.

I love you...

With his eyes covered all she might see was a quiver of his lips as the words sunk in. The emotions he felt threatened to overwhelm him as the realization set in. Just as he thought he had ruined it all, she know stood here in his arms and confirmed that they indeed had fallen in love with each other. The one thing Howard truly wished for had come true and this truth stood in the form of Bloom Silverton. He didn't care that they would come to a stand still in the middle of the crowded dance floor. Not even the shouts and commotion nearby could dampen this moment of joy and wonder. Howard would slid his arms from her and if she allowed they his hand would cup either side of her face. The kiss that would follow was not that of a lusty, teenaged boy, but that of a young man who had found true love.

"Not exactly how a dreamt it." Howard giggled along with her as he realized just how silly the events leading up to this was and how odd he must look. However it would surely be quite the fond memory to look back on one day. "They seem to be going down." His eyes did feel smaller as he wrapped his arms back around her and moved to the music again. As much love as he felt in this moment, Howard couldn't help but to still feel a need to apologize once more. "Bloom, I'm sorry that I broke our promise." The one they had made to each other to never allow anything between them. An almost impossible oath to keep for most, but in this time he had to renew it. "Never again, okay?"
