Quidditch Slytherin vs Ravenclaw - Fall 2022

Flash would not be surprised to be joined by the spirited and enthusiastic Avery, who he had seen massive improvement in over the last year. What started out as clearly his first ever attempt at working out, now the little firecracker was as fit as a fiddle, and with a new position on the team to show for it. Having not had the opportunity to play the field for more than a millisecond before, the title of second-string Keeper would prove to be the one with the highest turnover rate. Koko was a powerful Keeper that was rarely knocked out of the game, whereas the Chaser position was far more likely to see play and have a major effect on the outcome of the game. To be quite honest, Flash felt a twinge of pride in him, more than he had ever felt in his life for his own little brother.

"Yes, this one is more stable. It should help with spotting the snitch, I hope." Flash would either show Avery his broom, or give it to him to look at, whichever he seemed to be more interested in. "A Silver Arrow is good at just about everything, but I think it's worthwhile to find the rider's exact weakness to accommodate for."

Percival and Burnett would join them in time, with Percival looking as disgruntled as ever and Burnett looking completely frayed. Before Flash could acknowledge either of them, Avery's excitement would boil over into further questions. Flash could not besmirch him this, he had much to look forward to this match.

"Likely, I think. Any of the three up there could be targeted for one reason or another." He would smile, wondering, with optimism, how Avery would perform under the pressure. "You've done well in practice, I'm sure you will do well on the field."

The would start of course, leading Flash to look to the sky with his binoculars. Of course, only one of his eyes could actually see through them, as the other one remained blind. Unlike last year where he allowed Marion to see while he played, in order to use his sight as a Seeker, this year he did not have that option. While it was a good thing that she no longer had such control over him, he had to admit that a lack of depth perception wasn't exactly good for his Quidditch career. It was good that he was second-string, but that didn't mean there was no chance that he would play. He would have to prove that he still deserved his spot on the team if he did.

Up above, their own team started with what could be considered a typical play. Two going for the Quaffle, the beaters attacking the opponent's key players, and the Keeper in her goals blocking the enemy from scoring. Attempt after attempt, Flash watched Sylvain winning the grabs over their own Chasers, and yet Koko managed to block all but one shot. In the end, both sides were tied with a measly one goal each. Flash was glad that Quaffles were getting more emphasis now, since that made the strategy more interesting, and now he had so much more to keep track of.

"Burnett, don't sulk like that. You chose to be on the team, didn't you? Have some pride." While not taking his eyes off the sky, feeling the need to understand where the game was as it was going, Flash would address Burnett without expecting much of an answer. It might have sounded like a careless or rude approach, but he needed to toughen up sooner rather than later if he expected to be a helpful contribution. "We might not be world champions or undefeated, but we always do our best. As a team, our victories and failures are as one."

Flash would continue to watch the game, interested in the targets Dan chose and who would be falling first.

"For Merlin's sake..." The Irish girl mumbled under her breath. It seemed Winnie would get a chance to play this game after all, but she wasn't expecting it to happen so soon after the game had started. Just what the hell was Cecily thinking? Hopefully poor Lavinia would be okay after a trip to the hospital wing. Cec definitely had some sucking up to do later.

PARAGON OF HEALTH: Winnie is boosting Lavinia and Cecily, giving them an extra 10% of health.

Flash passed his broom to Avery, and the small boy took it eagerly and gingerly in his hands, admiring the embossed name on its shaft and the aerodynamics that were different from his own Silver Arrow. "It's awesome!" he blurted. When Flash mentioned a rider's weakness that the broom was meant to accommodate for, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness for the older boy's loss of vision from that eye behind the eyepatch. How cruel and unfair it was, to take away something that a seeker might treasure most. But, he was determined not to let his smile or the excitement for his mentor's new broom falter, even as his those unhappy thoughts appeared in his mind. He didn't want Flash to be reminded of anything less than happy today. Instead, he allowed himself to examine the broom in admiration once more before handing it back. "If we see it in action today, I know it'll do its job well with you riding it!" he said confidently. He and Flash had trained so much together, that he knew things would turn out for the best if luck was also in their favor.

He swelled with pride at Flash's confidence in him. It erased the last tinges of doubt he had, knowing that the words of someone who had seen him improve over time meant the most to him. "Well, if they dare go for Tyranni, Maggie, or Lucky, they'll have a new threat to reckon with!" he proclaimed dramatically, clutching a fist tightly.

He noticed Percival sitting down nearby, shooting him an icy glare as if he had just seen his most hated human. "Oh Percy, are you just jealous that your old roommate decided to room with me this year?" he asked in a falsely-sweet voice, blinking innocently and hoping to get back at him a little for what he had done. "Hana and I have lots of tea parties together." What could this big guy possibly do to him here, with all these onlookers watching? He wasn't in a lonely train compartment anymore for Rainwood to shoot sparks into his face. To be honest, he wasn't completely thrilled that Hanako and his snake were his roommates now, but Percival didn't need to know.

A slightly frazzled Jack Burnett joined them as well. "Yeah, what Flash said!" he agreed readily, hoping that Jack would feel better. "Y'know, it can't be worse than what I experienced! I got knocked out of the sky within the first minute of my first and only match last year as second-string keeper!" he added enthusiastically, hoping to helpful, before realizing it probably wasn't the greatest story to tell. "But look at me now, good as new after a few days in the hospital wing with a big swollen head!" he added in a desperate attempt to make things sound better. Oh, dang. Should've left out the swollen head part.

Lavinia had this match win in hand. With all of her training there was no way anyone would be able to avoid her blatches or even attack her. Except for one person. Cecily Quinn, one of her best friends and her other cheating buddy. Luckily for Lavinia, she would never have to worry about Cecily ever going after her since they were on the same team. At least that’s what she thought until Cecily started barreling towards her.

Lavinia immediately recognizing the blatch called out to Cecily, “Cecily! What are you doing?!” Realizing that her yells were doing nothing and something odd was happening to Cecily, Lavinia started to brace herself for the impact. There was no way she could dodge this rouge attack.

When Cecily finally did hit Lavinia, she thought all was lost and her first game was about to end in another trip to the hospital wing. Also, Lavinia gained a better understanding of how overpowered the blatching move really was, it definitely packed a punch. Falling off her broom, Lavinia was surprised when a broom appeared underneath her. Damion had caught her! All hope was not lost. Before her time ran out, Lavinia on Damion’s broom set out to blatch Koko, the author of Lavinia’s cheating article in the Hogwarts Headliner. Quickly Lavinia blatched her before the referee could even notice it. Another cheating success.

"SCORE!!!" Sylvain said, holding his hands above his head. He had seen the opportunity to grab the quaffle and went for it, but as he looked back at his team the lack of confidence in his plan faded and he knew exactly what he had to do.

"Don't worry Eagles, I'll be right there!" Now if some of you would just keep holding on until I get there for goodness sake, He thought to himself while racing to their side filled with high hopes that the match wouldn't be over so soon.

Aly and Sylvain had been practicing this; it was a pass-off of sorts, an attempt to have Aly play both Keeper and Chaser at once. Sylvain snatched the Quaffle and scored, and Aly whooped at her captain's fantastic play: "All right, Syl!"

But her joy was quickly quashed by one of the Slytherin Chasers scoring on Aly's empty hoops, even as she sped back to them in an attempt to block. Syl kept his hands on the Quaffle a few times more as Aly guarded and headed back to the midfield, and then, when her hands finally wrapped around soft red leather, a victorious jolt of adrenaline shot through her. She took aim, fired - and the Keeper for Slytherin blocked - and then said Keeper was blatched from her broom by Aly's teammate Damion.

Aly grinned at Damion as they passed each other in the air. She'd never really congratulate someone for cheating, but, well... the revenge did feel mildly good.

It was a terrible day, the day Cecily committed treason, heinous crimes against her own beloved team. Never did Cecily imagine the day, never did she expect to turn against her own. And yet, watching her fellow chaser, her teammate, her good friend Lavinia tumble from her broom, the day was upon her. She wasn't quite sure what had happened -- only that she couldn't target Erin. Something about the girl had compelled her to alter her course at the last moment, to fight for the Slytherin.

Those goddamn slimy snakes.

She let out a breath of relief as she watched Lavinia land safely on Damion's broom. Lucky for all of them he was there-- it would do no good to have their star cheater out of the game on the first play. Cecily herself, meanwhile, was off to take her penalty lap for BLATCHING HER OWN TEAMMATE. Way to go, girl. Really nailed it on this one. She'd really have to apologize to Lavinia once they cinched the win. Profusely. Maybe with chocolate.

See this was not how River was hoping to start off the match. She did her usual search, but before she could even get a good over-look, a hit was sent her way and she had no chance dodging. As if suddenly struck by lightning, the ravenclaw tumbled to the ground, trying to mentally prepare for the blow. Thankfully her teammates were on high alert, catching her before the landing. River gave Damion a quick pat on the shoulder as she breathed a light “thanks”, and trying to orient herself and keeping the game going.
