APPEARANCE
With almond shaped eyes, a head full of curly hair, and a brown tint to her skin, Brazilian born Soraia is considered to be a pretty girl. Her height and hair stand out as identifying markers but she's your everyday, average teenage girl.
Soraia is considered a marvelous girl to her family. With a head full of thick, dark coils, her chocolate eyes, broad nose, and full, heart-shaped lips -- she's a little beauty. The only daughter of an Afro-Brazilian and his French lover, Soraia has spent all of her life in Brazil. Her skin is a lighter tint than her father's gorgeous ebony tone but darker than her mother's warm porcelain skin -- marking the differences between them all. But her eyes were given to her by her mother and her smile came from her father. She's a spry blend of them both.
Another thing she received from her parents was her height. Her father is 6'4 and her mother is 5'9. Although Soraia is only fifteen years old, she stands at 5'7 -- well above the average height for girls her age -- and shows no signs of slowing down. She's always been ahead of the curve when it came to growth. So much so that it was hard for her to control her limbs for a long time. She often would injure herself simply going from point A to point B. She was awkward and uncoordinated until her mother introduced her to dance. Years in samba schools have made her movements graceful and controlled.
Often, she wears her hair in its natural state. Dark brown coils spring beautifully from her head and brush against her shoulders. In its natural state, she can often pull it into a fun bun or high ponytail. When she doesn't feel like taking the self-care measures to maintain her hair, she has it in a protective style: braids!
HISTORY
She's a pureblood witch born to people who were radically different from one another. Her father -- a Brazilian ministry of magic employee -- and her mother -- a French born ballerina -- were complete and total opposites. Everything about their lives contradicted one another.
Reducio
João Francisco Cardoso Sampaio was born to a middle-class wizarding family. He grew up in a wizarding community not too far from São Paulo. Everything about his life was as normal as it could get in the extraordinary magic world. He lived contently with his enterprising parents, had three siblings -- he was the oldest of them all, and his life was completely mapped out. Everything he ever wanted to do, he planned it. He was funny like that. The one thing he didn't see coming was falling in love with a tourist at the age of sixteen -- and loving her sight unseen for the next decade.
Jolie Camille Martín lived her life on the edge. Her father was a traveler, interested in the pleasures of life. Her mother died when she was a child. It was always Jolie and her dad. She was born in France but considered herself a citizen of the world. It was during one of their trips that she met João. They were fascinated with one another and feel deeply into a teenage love affair. However, within three months -- Jolie and her father were on the go again. She and João were torn apart physically but never apart emotionally. They carried on their love through letters, living their lives but wanting to be together.
During their years apart, João graduated from Castelobruxo, began work in the ministry, and created a life for himself. Jolie immersed herself in the muggle world as an adult, preferring their simplicity to wizards. She gave up her use of magic and became a prima ballerina in France. Despite their achievements and success, nothing began to make them as happy as they made one another. Jolie took the first step -- leaving her career behind and moving to Brazil to be with João. They got married, settled in Bahia (in a wonderful neighborhood called Itapuã), and created a life together -- eventually giving birth to a daughter in 2009.
Soraia joined a large extended family -- her father's siblings, dozens of cousins, beloved aunts and uncles, and loving grandparents. Most of all, she was her parent's pride and joy, the physical representation of all their love. Soraia was an energetic child right from the start. They had to keep her busy with constant activity just to get her to sleep at night. She was a clumsy girl, often uncoordinated through her excitement. She was always on the go and sometimes it would put her off balance. She'd bolt up from a seat, preparing to run, and would trip over her own feet. Or she'd be in a hurry to get someone and would wobble unsteadily. As she grew older, the activities changed. Her parents' support and encouragement helped her grow into an extroverted young woman. Soraia was a popular girl in their neighborhood, often pulling her friends together to host monthly sleepovers or play dates in the park.
For a long time, Soraia was an only child. It was the reason she eagerly gained as many friends and close relationships -- she has always wanted to be close to people. She was spoiled, doted on, and adored. It was an idyllic life that Soraia lived. She doesn't know strife or worry. All she knows is happiness and harmony. In 2018, her mother gave birth to another child -- a daughter they named Isabela. The Sampaio family still lives in Salvador while Soraia studies at Castelobruxo. A normal, little family.
PERSONALITY
Fun-loving, quick-witted, and open-hearted. Soraia shines as bright as sunlight. She's warm and engaging, loves making friends, but can also be extremely competitive. It can be a major flaw.

Tragedy and sadness have never touched Soraia's life. It's a gift, a blessing, of course. And it characterizes how she reacts to the world around her. She's full of joy, and is a girl with immense spirit and boundless energy. Soraia does her best to be the life of the party. She's always there with an encouraging word and doesn't mind being a 'bad' influence. Just as long as people are enjoying life. It's a beautiful thing to her, a treasure, and she makes sure everyone around her knows it.
She's made of great traits. Courage, kindness, determination. But there are a few in there that aren't exactly positive. Due to her parents' doting and care, Soraia grew up to be a little spoiled. She's not materialistic, has never worn the latest fashions or owned high-tech muggle gadgets. No, she's just used to things going her way. She's used to being the center of attention. When she doesn't have that, she can be a little awkward and unsure of herself. She's also extremely competitive. The bright, happy girl is a fierce competitor and does her best to make sure she always comes out on top in a challenge. Her father calls it fortitude. Her mother calls it 'being a sore loser'. Tomato, tomato.
Her hobbies and interests are a part of her well-rounded persona. Soraia loves to dance -- a fairly talented (albeit amateur) Samba dancer -- she originally began to learn to help with her balance. Her mother was a ballerina but ballet was much too calm for her to gain interest in. Along with dancing, she enjoys mostly physical and outdoor activity. Surfing, running, hiking. All that energy has to burn out somehow! She's the friend that often encourages people to wake up early simply to bask in the sunrise.
Her laugh is melodic, her smile is bright, and she has a habit of dancing when she's happy. Which is constant. All in all, she's a pretty well-rounded girl who isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes is right. She's got a sense of self that would rival anyone. Soraia loves making friends. Leave her alone for five minutes and she's probably gained about three or four friends. But don't mistake her kindness for weakness. There's a strength in her -- brought on by her sense of self. She knows who she is, she knows what she considers to be right. Don't push her because she'll push back.
