𝕬s the raven-haired witch quietly snuck up to the balcony of the Astronomy Tower after making sure that the Professor was not present in the classroom, she wondered with detached amusement if this was how her Lion peers felt whenever some of them had the reckless urge to step out of line. Regina knew that it was completely inconceivable that she would willingly break a rule when she'd been forced to uphold an exemplary image since her first year at Hogwarts, especially right after being reprimanded by the Miller patriarch, but a small rebellious side of her couldn't resist against following through with the decision. The feeling was exhilarating, pretending to be someone other than the perfectly molded daughter of a prestigious family despite the risks.Astronomy Tower, 16th January 2022. 7:00pm

You were raised like a Slytherin, but I know you are a Gryffindor at heart, her Mother had once said. And that's why the Hat sorted you in my House.
Perhaps it was true, even if Regina would never admit it out loud.
Orchid eyes gazed longingly at the ether above her as she slowly sat down against the railing, the admonishing owl from her Father clutched tightly in one hand wrinkling considerably until the offending words became illegible. The young Heiress allowed her conflicting emotions and oppressive thoughts faded away in favour of admiring her favourite little escape. Looking up into the night sky, Regina was pleasantly welcomed by countless stars, constellations, and the moon. Despite the slightly chilly air, this place offered her so much comfort and peace. Away from everything and everyone else, she was greeted by a sight she usually did not get to view quite often back at the Miller manor in the vast green fields beyond West London. Regina found that the cold did not bother her, as she was a winter baby. She simply brought her legs close to her chest and wound her arms around her knees to at least keep some warmth as her breath came out in gentle puffs of white.
During stolen moments like this, the Lion allowed herself to ponder what would her life had been like if she hadn't been born into the Pureblood community. Would she have had a happier family then, showered in affection and wanted for nothing? Instead of learning cursive handwriting, proper etiquette and schmoozing with uptight traditionalists, would she have been able to enjoy mundane, simple things like playing with new toys and whining for sweets to her parents? Perhaps she would have not turned out such as jaded, cynical and so resentful against the world.
Alas, it was a silly daydream that her Father would be scandalised if he'd known. The Miller patriarch never ceased to preach about prestige and and power, influencing his idealist views into his heirs. His wife was a bit more gentle on the subject, but Regina knew Mother agreed with him all the same. And wasn't that such a sad thought?
The purple-eyed Gryffindor was pulled out of her introspection when she heard a pair of footsteps approaching. Regina held her breath, but didn't tear her gaze away from the starry night sky.

Hello...cousin.
16th january, 2022. sunday evening.
pv thread with @regina miller, sorry for the wait! She really needed to stop leaving her books lying around everywhere.
Earlier that day, she'd gone up to the Astronomy Tower during the open study times to do some extra reading and get ahead in class, but in a hare-brained move she'd left her textbook lying around somewhere in the classroom after rushing to lunch. Ivy had only just remembered ten minutes ago halfway through a game of cards, and with a rushed apology to her opponent she'd hurried out of Gryffindor Tower, praying that the Tower was still open. It wasn't like she had some sort of emotional attachment to the textbook or anything, but there was a letter from her cousins jammed in between the pages she was yet to finish reading, and she wasn't willing to wait for tomorrow to see if some nosy tosser had already got their grimy little hands on it.
She ran through the corridors and reached the top of the staircase slightly breathless, before tentatively trying the door. Oh, good, it was unlocked. She scanned the Tower for the professor, but the only other person in there was a raven-haired girl still in Gryffindor-coloured clothes, sitting on the floor with her legs drawn to her chest. "Oh," said Ivy, still catching her breath. "I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone else would be in here. Just grabbing something I left in here earlier and then I'll be out of your way." The brunette smiled gently at the girl. (OOC note: don't forget that Ivy still has long brown hair at this point!) She had to be a first year or a second year, Ivy thought to herself. Not someone she'd have known when she was a first year... certainly someone she'd seen around Gryffindor tower since her return, though.
For some reason, she suddenly felt a little self-conscious about her outfit. Ivy always made sure to look put together, but the clothes she had on right now were definitely a lot more casual. Dressed in a hoodie [x], blue flannel pyjama pants [x], and pale pink sheepskin boots [x], this probably wasn't the best outfit to make a good first impression in, but then again, she hadn't really expected to make an impromptu evening trip to the Astronomy Tower when she'd gotten changed. Two or three years ago, she wouldn't have been caught dead wearing Muggle clothes. Her parents disapproved and she had constantly sought validation and approval from them. But... well. Her time in France away from them with her open-minded grandfather and cousins had changed the way she thought about Muggle culture as a whole.
Ivy retrieved her book quickly, sighing with relief when she found the letter untouched and still in between the pages of the textbook. She was about to leave, but for some reason she stopped in her tracks and she turned back, looking over at the girl with dark hair. The Gryffindor glanced down at her wristwatch quickly, making sure that she still had time before curfew, and walked over to the other witch with the book tucked underneath her right arm. "What brings you to the Astronomy Tower at this time?"

At the second intruder's soft little greeting, Regina finally looked away from the beautiful night sky and assessed the girl who'd appeared in a rather peculiar state. Orchid eyes scanned her up and down critically, noticing with distaste the ruffled state of her clothing and...were those Muggle nightwear?
Regina let out a light huff at the thought. Even though most of the time she hated when her parents dictated her every actions, she still had a bit more dignity than that. She would never imagine putting on anything belonging to that magicless and plebeian culture - not to mention the insufferable scolding she'd receive from Mother who always scrutinised how she dressed from head to toe. Whoever this other girl was, she must not be of the Pureblood high society. If she was, then she must be a defected one, as Father would put it in his own words.
It took a moment for the raven-haired Lioness to recognise the face she'd seen in passing several times inside the dormitories of the Gryffindor Tower. Brown hair and grey eyes with just a hint of blue in the bright moonlight. There was something...familiar about her facial features that Regina couldn't quite put a finger on. As though she'd known this person outside of Hogwarts...or was it somebody else who shared similarities? A relative, perhaps?
"I do not believe I am obligated to share any of my private matters with you," Regina replied coldly. Half of the school year and she hadn't had any improvement on her social skills, and it reminded her unpleasantly of the reprimanding she'd received by owl that led her to this situation in the first place.
I do not need comfort from anyone, she thought resolutely - bitterly - in the privacy of her mind. I do not need to depend on anyone.

Hello...cousin.
16th january, 2022. sunday evening.
@regina millerThe girl's cold words slowed Ivy's footsteps to a stop. Her smile stayed, although it no longer reached her eyes. It was a little hard not to take offence at the curtness of the other girl's tone, but to be honest, Ivy was more focused on the strong sense of deja vu that had come out of nowhere. She frowned slightly, trying to place the trigger for it, before brushing it off quickly. Probably just a face she'd seen around Gryffindor Tower.
"Alright, then," was her quiet reply to the dark-haired girl, and Ivy turned away to walk back down to her dormitory. She had no desire to have a conversation with someone who so obviously didn't wish to talk to anyone. It would be a waste of her time as well as incredibly aggravating - clearly, this girl had never been taught how to interact with other human beings in a polite manner...
Ivy couldn't shake the weird sense of deja vu, though. Where on earth had she seen this girl before? She was certain that this wasn't just a passing Gryffindor face, and considering that she had been back for only ten days, it was natural to assume that she wouldn't know many of the first and second years anyway, so why was this person sticking out so much? As she reached the doorway, she paused and turned back to face her. "I'm sorry - do I know you?"

Regina tried not to wince when the girl turned around after a curt answer. Her previous dismissal had come out a bit meaner than she'd intended, but she convinced herself that she owed strangers no pretense of kindness. She didn't need company, she was perfectly fine alone. Those who were ready to turn away from her coldness proved they would have abandoned her sooner or later if she'd let them in.
That was right, she couldn't trust anyone. Regina constantly reminded herself no one could understand her struggles or the complexity of her mind. She hated when people offer her empty sympathy or - Merlin forbid - pity. It was fine. If she had to isolate from the rest of the world as an emotional protection, then so it shall be.
She didn't regret dismissing the girl.
But the brunette stopped in her tracks and faced Regina once more, inquiring about some supposed familiarity. Orchid eyes narrowed in suspicion as she scanned the other Gryffindor's features once again, trying to match a series of faces she'd known explicitly before flashing inside her mind. One particular image clicked. It was quite some time before her enrollment in Hogwarts, but Regina could recall seeing the same features in another witch during her cousin Isaiah Barett's wedding. A marriage burned to ashes because the wife had eloped with a Muggle, the scandal putting a stain on Louise Miller's side of the family.
This girl...this girl was present at the aforementioned wedding. She was yet again present when the Millers and Silversteins had organised a grand engagement party for Regina's brother Rupert and his betrothed Audrey.
Bellamy was the name of the in-laws, at the time.
"Well, what a small world it is," Regina drawled as she stood up to her full height, arrogance mixed with venom dripping darkly in her tone. "You are Lillian Bellamy's sister, are you not? I must say, I'm not surprised that you are also a filthy Muggle lover. It must run in the family."
She tilted her head, the ghost of a smirk appearing on her lips. Isaiah's former spouse had been branded a blood traitor when the messy divorce had happened. A younger, less jaded Regina had mourned the loss of her favorite cousin when the man threw himself into his Curse Breaker work and no longer returned to Great Britain except during holidays as a result of this scandal.
"I am Isaiah Barett's first cousin, Regina Miller. It is a relief that my brother is betrothed to a Silverstein rather than a Bellamy. Your family would have tainted mine as well, otherwise."

Hello...cousin.
16th january, 2022. sunday evening.
@regina millerAh.
So that was how Ivy knew her.
The Gryffindor's bristled slightly at the term 'filthy Muggle lover', now very aware of her Muggle attire. Great, so this girl here was a blood purist. Obsession with blood purity was no longer respected these days, especially at a school as diverse as Hogwarts. Sure, the Silversteins and Bellamys still put a heavy emphasis on keeping bloodlines pure, and like all old pureblood families, they had unconscious biases against those unlike them (half-breeds and those with non-magical heritage), but they were never so openly discriminatory. Ivy vaguely wondered if Regina had any friends at all with such backward views.
Oh, right, her cousin Audrey's engagement to the Miller boy. He seemed like a nice enough guy. How did he end up with a sister like Regina? Ivy made a mental note to tell Audrey to be wary of her future sister-in-law.
She wasn't going to defend Lillian's actions. It was clear even to Ivy, who had only met with Lillian a handful of times since they reconciled, that her older sister had found her soulmate in Noah. But she knew the impact that it had on poor Isaiah Barrett as a result of Lily's callousness, and perhaps it was only fair that Regina had been left with such an awful impression of the Bellamys.
Still, at the insult at her family, Ivy's grey eyes flashed briefly with disdain. That was her sister, her family that Regina was talking about. If Ivy was anything, she was loyal.
But she was also a lady, one that had been raised with class. Ivy was hardly going to start screaming at this... first year? second year? Anyway, she also just didn't have the energy to start anything right now. She'd gotten the answer to her question of how they knew each other, and there was a game of cards waiting for her back in her dormitory.
Ivy gazed at Regina steadily from across the room as the younger girl spoke, wondering where the younger kids kept all of their audacity these days. "I see," she said coolly when the girl had finished. There was a slight pause before she spoke again. "You are correct. I'm Ivy Bellamy, Lillian's younger sister." Ivy smiled at her, but her grey eyes remained icy. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Regina." And with that, she turned and left, thinking over the encounter as she walked back to Gryffindor.
It would probably be for the best if they did not meet again.Ivy Bellamy has left the thread.

Perhaps she was feeling much too vindictive for her own good. But to be frank, Regina had felt terrible all evening and she wanted to hurt somebody in order to regain some sense of self-righteous arrogance. It wasn't a healthy way to cope by any means, but bringing others down to make herself feel better had become a worrying habit she couldn't quite get rid of - especially those she saw were beneath her.
Regina didn't always express her distaste of Muggles and lesser bloodlines out loud, but she didn't have the best role models for parents. She'd been raised to acknowledge that Purebloods were superior, the true wielders of magic. She'd never been allowed to step foot into the Muggle world as a child. Her father and grandfather weren't the most accommodating towards wix of other bloodlines either, and the House of Miller were known to be one of the oldest, most traditionalist families.
So the raven-haired Gryffindor felt no remorse as she watched Bellamy flinched at the insult, eyes turning cold and expression reserved. She crossed her arms and smirked even as the older teen turned her back after a passive-aggressive dismissal. Regina commended Bellamy for at least not taking the bait, but she was still a tad disappointed with the lack of reaction. She would have loved to rip into her a bit more and release the frustration pressing her down all night.
However, her two minutes of arrogance disappeared when the older Gryffindor's presence left the Astronomy Tower, and Regina was once again alone. Her lips pulled into a frown as orchid eyes lost their maliciousness, turning on her heels slowly to gaze at the sky. No amount of scathe and short-lived victory could ever erase the fact that she was subconsciously pained by the self-isolation.
Regina wasn't a perfect person. But in the end, she took consolation in being alone than being hurt anymore than she already was.
