"To be quite frank, Ms. Wynn," Draven mused, wand twirling across his fingers, "I don't care."

"Verdimillious" His words were punctured by a flash of green light.

The spell hit Wynn square in the face, making her see stars as Draven gripped her by the shoulders, and sent her stumbling backwards towards the center of the room. It wasn't a fair fight. Not really. Two skilled spellcasters against a mousy first year girl who didn't know which end of the wand to grip. Which was why Draven hadn't blasted her through the wall. He'd wanted to. His wand had warmed up in his hand, demanding a fight, demanding a show, really.

He'd pictured her head snapping backwards, hitting the wood, blood starting to trickle down the back of her head. He'd pictured her groaning in pain, hands clamped over her ears, tears trickling down her face. And then he'd imagined Juni looking at him with the disgust he felt welling up in his chest, and the Flippendo had switched to Verdimillious.

"Reggie, love, I trust you can keep her quiet for a few hours?" An "Alohomora" was whispered towards the lock, and the door clicked open, gaping to reveal a dark hallway. "Wouldn't want her crying wolf."

He turned to Wynn, kneeling before her, just out of reach, and relived her of her wand with a quick flick of his wrist. "You shouldn't be a prefect." he whispered to her. "The ones running the place should be competent, and you're anything but."

He handed Regina the girl's wand.

The corner of Regina's lips lifted into a cold smirk as she watched Draven hurled a Verdimilious right at the Hufflepuff Prefect's face, side-stepping indifferently as the boy mercilessly threw Emma Wynn to the hard floor and away from the door. She didn't feel any sympathy for the dimwit, of course - it was Wynn's own fault for not taking a genuine threat as it was. Regina was a bit surprised Draven hadn't gone for a more powerful spell, but she reckoned it wouldn't be too wise to cause a loud ruckus lest somebody else blew their cover.

The Gryffindor stalked forward with her wand raised and ready to attack, pointing directly at the fallen Prefect in case Wynn decided to retaliate. Not that there was much the other girl could do anyways, not when faced with two incredibly efficient spellcasters who weren't afraid to use force to have their way. Regina had been a little bit complacent after her duelling match just a few days ago - she'd almost forgotten the exhilaration of subduing an opponent with vice and prowess. The darkness kept at bay inside of her was spiking once again - a welcoming feeling - as she stared down at Wynn from the tip of her nose.
"Reggie, love, I trust you can keep her quiet for a few hours? Wouldn't want her crying wolf."
"With pleasure," Regina answered. "She would be a fool to even try."

The raven-haired witch pocketed Wynn's wand with her free hand after Draven had offered it, and focused her attention back on the meek Badger. She knew just the thing to silence Wynn and assert her dominance.

"Mucus ad Nauseam."

With a blinding green light, Regina casted the Curse of Bogies with precision and confidence - only to be taken aback when the Muggleborn rolled away just in time, effectively avoiding the line of fire by sheer luck.

"You impudent little flobberwom," She growled. "Stay still!"

The shout was emphasized with a flash of white this time - with a hissing 'Petrificus Totalus!' vicious enough - shooting out from the tip of her black aspen wand and immobilizing the other girl in a matter of seconds. Dark satisfaction curled inside her stomach as Regina finally lowered her wand and crouched next to the bound body with malice glinting in her eyes - turning her usually enchanting violet irises poisonous.

"Such a shame an incompetent like you holds such a prestigious title. Enjoy breaking out of the curse on your own."

Feeling vindictive at Wynn's earlier attempt to dodge her attack, Regina reached out and unclipped the Hufflepuff's Prefect badge from her robes and tossed it towards her Slytherin companion.

"Well, we best be on our way now," She addressed nonchalantly, dusting her expensive designer clothing as she stood up and turned on her heels to walk to Draven's side.

Emma was shocked at the words that Draven said so calmly. She really couldn’t understand why they were not listening. And she was frustrated by their disobedience. But she didn’t have time to do anything else, as she saw a flash of green light coming quickly at her face. So surprised by the violent action, Emma didn’t raise her hands to protect her face, taking the spell full force. Crying out, she felt her head go back and slightly to the side, hitting the wood of the door frame. She sank to the floor, her hands rising to clutch her face, the pain hitting several seconds after the spell had hit, as if her brain couldn’t comprehend it. Her wand felt useless in her hand, the shock and pain throwing all thoughts of spells from her brain. She cried out ”Why?” As if they would answer why. Or anything that Emma would like to hear.

She felt her wand yanked from her hand, her tight grip doing nothing to stop the disarming. She missed the words that Draven spoke to Regina but caught every word he whispered to her, the words echoing in her head, creating a loop that she knew would keep her up at night for days, if not weeks. Lowering one hand from her face, she glared at the student, feeling hatred and disgust rising in her body, though she couldn’t be entirely sure if it was for Draven and Regina or herself. Or a mixture of both. Clenching her teeth, she threw the words at both Regina and Draven, “You’ll be in bigger trouble now.”

Catching movement out of the corner of her eye, she watched as Regina drew closer, whimpering at the wand thrown at her direction. The hatred that she had shown such weakness to these….awful people grew, and she didn’t know how to stop the tears from welling in her eyes. Emma watched as her wand disappeared into Regina’s pocket, her second hand withdrawing from her face. She didn’t know what made her think to move, other than an intense need to somehow grab control of the situation, but she threw herself to the side but angled towards Regina, trying to get out of the way of the spell she knew was likely coming as well as maybe get closer to her attacker, and maybe even taking her down. The dodge she succeeded at but instead of getting closer to Regina she seemed to be farther away.

She half-heartedly grinned, having a moment to ask herself if Regina really thought she would stay still, the pain from the first spell and the subsequent head strike still smarting quite a bit. But that was enough of a distraction to miss that Regina was casting another spell in her direction. Gasping, she felt her body go still, and no matter how much she wished to wiggle her toes or feet, Emma could not. She attempted to close her eyes, but not even her eyelids obeyed. Tears were running down her face as Regina crouched next to her and she was even further frustrated when Regina took her prefect badge, watching as she tossed it somewhere that was out of Emma’s limited vision field. Emma was frustrated as she tried everything to move, everything to stop Regina and Draven from leaving with both her wand and her badge, but could do nothing but think. Immediately she just thought of all the things she should have done, could have done and knew that the words the two had spat at her would repeat on a loop. She just gave up at that point, hoping someone would find her quickly.

Draven caught the badge without thinking, fingers wrapping around the silvery surface. It was cool to the touch, nearly oppressively so, the metal molding to his palm and making his skin crawl. It was more than a badge. It was a ticket to freedom. It was an honor he hadn't earned, and possibly never would considering the strikes accumulating on his record. "You don't deserve this." Draven said quietly, letting the badge drop in the pocket of his robe. "And you never will."

A beat of silence passed as he surveyed the room, noting the closed windows and chairs stacked high, towering above the three kids. The Rehearsal Room...what a joke. Not a particularly funny one either. The point of detention was to teach a lesson, not to humiliate. And there were no lessons to be learned here, particularly not from Emma Wynn.

Retrieving the girl's wand from Regina, Draven stalked to the opposite side of the RR, setting it down on the podium. A whispered "Wingardium Leviosa" later, and the wand rose in the air with a flourish, floating towards one of the chandeliers, up, up, and away from wherever Wynn could see...or reach. It was only when it settled on one of the exposed marble beams all the way up in the celling, that Drave allowed the spell to drop. The wand lay still in the dust.

"Just in case you had any plans." Draven told the prefect evenly, offering Regina his arm. "Shall we, Ms. Miller?"

The young witch knew Draven must have some brilliant plan in his mind when she handed him Wynn's wand, judging by the glint she could see in his eyes as he surveyed the room just a few seconds before. Her suspicion was proven right when the Slytherin walked to the very back, the murmur of an incantation on his lips. Regina's neutral expression could not hide the malicious glee in her orchid eyes as she watched Draven depositing the meek Badger's wand on the ceiling. Oh he was good, she commended him in her mind. Emma Wynn was truly and utterly defenseless now.

This felt like a moment to be recorded in the history of what used to be Regina's cold and dull life - the very first act of rebellion, done without a single hesitation. She'd inevitably smeared the image of a perfect student, a perfect Heiress that she'd tried much too hard to maintain. Letting go of the pretense she had to keep up for so long was a large burden off her shoulders. It felt good, incredible even, when Regina finally retaliated against one of the authority figures she despised. It wasn't comparable to the imagination of fighting back against the true people who controlled her entire life...but it was close. Closer than Regina would ever wish for.

The Gryffindor tucked her aspen wand securely back inside her sleeve, the ghost of a smirk present on her face as she stared down pretentiously at the prone form of the farce of a Prefect, her hand looping around Draven's arm almost naturally.

"We shall, Mr. Mirador," She answered, leisurely matching him step by step as they both exited the Rehearsal Room without a single glance behind.

It was a rare weekend, these days, that Evelynn did not spend her afternoon in Hogsmeade. Or rather... it used to be. Lately, with the nicer weather and anxious energy looking forward to the end of the school year, more and more students seemed to be taking their weekends in the neighbouring village. It had gotten to a point where the prefect could hardly even enjoy her excursions there. More often than not, she would run into yet another first or second year thinking they could get away with breaking the rules and sneaking off of castle grounds. Since she couldn't bring herself to ignore any transgressions, it often meant administering warnings and detentions and spending what little spare time she had for herself on upholding the rules. Sometimes... it really was just better not knowing, she had come to realize. And she wouldn't have to enforce rules about leaving the grounds if she never left them herself.

Besides, it was less than two months to the end of the school year now. Professors really did tend to escalate the work and expectations of study as they approached the end of the semester. Quidditch had commanded her attention for a great portion of the year, but with the last games now concluded, she could finally fix her full attention to academia and end in an unquestionably strong position to continue her choice of electives the following year. A matter that became increasingly important to her as the OWLs loomed ever closer and thought started to turn to what she planned to do with her life beyond school.

Thoughts continued to reel down this line of thinking as she made her way down from Gryffindor tower. Over her shoulder was slung her bookbag, its contents deceptively spacious, expansive enough to contain the effective entirety of her personal library and educational necessities. Her destination: the actual library. It was early enough, she reasoned, that she might be able to snag herself a decent table in a quiet corner. And early enough, as well, that she would be able to get a solid amount of work done before supper if she hurried.

Fluid strides carried her down the levels of the castle, heels of her boots echoing dully with every confident step along the corridors. Out of habit, she had taken the path of her usual patrolling, finding it easier to fit that particular praefectorial duty in to her already existing paths than to have to retrace the steps again without any other purpose. She never expected to find anything. Usually, students were either decently behaved, or at least smart enough to avoid her attention. So there was no anticipation of uncovering anything on this occasion either. Perhaps it was because of this reason that she very nearly passed the rehearsal room by without a second glance.

Almost. Steps had faltered, backtracking until Evelynn stood abreast of the room's portal.

The door was ajar. Which was... unusual, to say the least. The rehearsal room was one of the highest traffic areas of the school, in her experience. With that came a certain value of space for practicing dance or song or music. During those times, the door was kept closed so as to discourage prying eyes and uphold the relative peace of the corridors immediately nearby of infiltrating noise. Rare it was indeed for that space to be unoccupied, particularly on a weekend in the afternoon. And then she noticed the figure.

All of a sudden, her heart stopped. In a flash, she had swivelled on her feet, ducking mid-step just long enough for fingers to fish free the wand kept hidden in the inside sheath of the lining of her boot. She withdrew it in the same motion as she rose into the stride. Lumos solem..
Wisdom roll: [d20: 18] + 15 = 33 [success]
Wand held before her defensively, she jogged quickly to the downed individual. Crouching at her side, her free hand went for her neck, fingertips feeling for a pulse. Alive. But all the while, her gaze and attention kept itself aloft, wand sweeping systematically around the room as though she were looking for something. Or someone. It wouldn't be until she had inspected the full perimeter of the otherwise empty space, assured that they were indeed alone, that she would finally let her gaze drop to the victim at her feet.

"Wynn?" A sigh escaped the Gryffindor prefect's lips as recognition of her fellow prefect dawned. A split second would lapse between the mental release of the sunlight charm and her utterance of, "Finite incantatum."
Wisdom roll: [d20: 6] + 15 = 21 [success]
Once again, her free hand would move, this time to slip itself under the girl's shoulders petite shoulders and help her to sit up. "What happened? What attacked you?" What. Not who. There was a certain gravity to the ender prefect's tone, an expression of concern that left to room for belief that this was just a funny prank or something to laugh off. That said, there was no denying the relief she felt. As far as Evelynn was concerned, this was a relatively mild situation. Still grave.. but at least time there was no pool of lifeblood to clean up...

Emma wished she could close her eyes, or even just run away from the words that were being told so calmly and so quietly to her. She had been nervous about being a prefect as a first year but had thought that she could handle it but obviously not. After all, if she couldn’t keep from being overwhelmed in her first detention, why should she think she could fulfill her duties as a prefect. It felt very much like failure, and Emma did not like that feeling. It caused a gnawing feeling to grow in her stomach and for tears to stream from her eyes, even as she couldn’t move. Her brain just kept repeating the words that had been thrown at her over the course of the detention and it felt like torture.

Even worse than taking her badge, which was already bad enough, Draven did something to her wand. She couldn’t hear anything but a faint breath of sound, and could not make out the words. She hoped that her wand was somewhere in the room, otherwise she didn’t know how she would get it back. Wouldn’t that be even worse? Having to explain that not only had she lost her prefect badge, but that her wand had been removed too. The small patch of ceiling and the room that she could just make out of the corner of her eye was not enough for her to tell what was going on which made her even more fearful of what happened. Emma heard them as they politely went on their way, and she felt some anger grow at the fact that they were just leaving her.

But it was soon overcome by pity and fear. Fear that she would not be found and she’d just be stuck here forever. Though maybe that would be better than having to admit what had happened. Emma would rather just forget entirely about the whole thing, and pretend it didn’t happen. But that seemed impossible. After all, someone would have to find her in order to become unfrozen.

It seemed like hours passed before she heard footsteps and she tried to cry out but was frozen by the spell that had been cast on her. The tears poured more heavily as she heard words then approaching footsteps, before a face she recognized as a fellow prefect, Evelynn, came into view. Emma was begging with her eyes to be released, but Evelynn seemed to be cautious, checking the room. She just wished for this humiliation to end. After all, she couldn’t imagine any of the older prefects, such as Evelynn having been overtaken.
Gasping when she was finally released, Emma took Evelynn’s help in sitting up, frantically wiping at her eyes, and doing her best to clean herself up. Sniffing a few times, she heard Evelynn’s question, but turned her face away, swiping at her eyes again before closing them. Realizing that really she couldn’t avoid saying something, she asked Evelynn in a wavering voice. “Did you see my wand?” Pausing, Emma said in a quiet voice, “Or my badge?”

Brows rose with the sudden gasping of the girl, hyper-reflexive instincts almost directing the Gryffindor prefect to start searching for something in the shadows of the room that might have prompted such a reaction akin to surprise. An equally swift counter-reaction had soothed the temptation, however, reminding her that breathing might not have been the most comfortable experience given the restricted movement. Besides, as hands lift to wipe tears away and tidy herself up, it didn't seem as though her focus was on anything still present.

Tilting her head as Wynn turned her face away, Evelynn waited, watching the subtleties of her movements with a mixture of concern and curiosity. Both sentiments swelled all the more as the question of what had attacked her went dismissed in favour for another.

"No.." Evelynn responded, drawing out the syllable. What was it with students losing their wands? Wasn't this exactly why she had written an article for the Headliner outlining exactly how to care for and store them? To prevent this very sort of loss? No wonder she'd ended up in this sorry state if she hadn't even have been able to defend herself. "I have not seen it," she clarified, then added , "And what do you mean, your badge?"

At that, Evelynn's gaze dipped to the girl's robes, noting the absence of any significant signs of damage or injury. As well as the notable absence of a prefect badge. Not all the prefects wore them so prominently, though. Nor all the time. It hadn't struck her as odd that there wasn't one so brazenly visible. But if the girl was inquiring as to having seen it, perhaps there was more to this situation. Deciding Wynn didn't seem in any immediate need of medical intervention, the lioness pushed herself to a rise. Whispering Lumos solem for a second time in only a few minutes, she then began a second sweep of the vicinity of the rehearsal room, this time in search not of potential assailants, but of lost belongings. "Where did you last have your wand?"
Observation roll
Keen Eye: d10[1] = 1 (does not automatically spot anything)
Wisdom Roll: d20[19] + 15 = 34 (spots something unusual)
Given the way the girl had asked if she had seen them, she could only assume there was a high chance of them being somewhere in the room. But there had been nothing unusual on the ground insofar as she could tell. Instruments were lined up nicely where they were usually kept. The piano seemed in good repair, although the key cover remained open as though someone had recently been playing. A quill and a few candies had found there way fallen beneath the bench, but neither badge nor wand. Props and curtains from plays and activities were tucked away tidily in a corner. Nothing at all had really struck her as out of place or somewhere someone might misplace a wand without some considerable effort on their part. Even the chandeliers seemed void of suspicion, unless an absence of cobwebs despite their elevation could be considered unusual.

"What happened, anyway?" Eyes narrowed, training in on a shadow against the ceiling. Steps echoing dully off the floor, she circled in on the chandelier of interest, wand light shining upon it from a variety of angles to try to spot whatever was caught in it that would cast a pointedly protruding shadow. Only.. the shadow disappeared as soon as she had changed the angle on the light fixture. So she retraced her steps back to where she had seen the oddity. "How did you come to be cursed?"

Emma was beating herself up and honestly just did not want to tell the older girl what had happened. She felt like a failure and didn’t want to spread that around, but it seemed that there was little option. After all, Regina and Draven could not be allowed to get away with attacking a prefect, even if it meant her embarrassment and continued reminder of the situation. She sat there, trying to work up the courage to tell Evelynn what had happened, though finding her wand was a priority. Her prefect badge she wasn’t as worried about if only because she half expected to lose it for being so weak as to be taken down by two students, even though Regina was older than she was and therefore knew more spells.

Emma looked around slightly panicked as if her wand would just be laying around on the floor, after Evelynn’s answer. She needed her wand, even if apparently she needed to do much more work to ensure she never lost it again. This was one of the reasons she had signed up for the dueling team, and was currently on the waitlist. She never wanted to be weak or defenceless. She decided that she’d spend more time practicing and ensuring that something like this would happen again. Though her brain couldn’t help but throw that she had practiced the spells she knew, and it had still done nothing.
She sighed dejectedly. “…my badge was stolen. And I don’t know what happened to my wand either. I was ….kind of frozen.” Emma gestured slightly behind her as if that explained everything. Although the words should have been enough considering Evelynn had seen her after all, but she felt the need to do or say something and that was easier than explaining everything.

Looking around, she silently groaned, not seeing her wand in any of the more obvious spells. Emma briefly watched Evelynn as she stood and surveyed the room. Deciding she might as well be useful, she pushed herself up, stretching slightly, and taking pleasure in her body responding to her. There were still a few random sniffles occurring but it was better than what she had been like before. ”Um… I think it was by the door area, but honestly it could be anywhere. I just hope they didn’t take it.” Emma whispered the last bit under her breath, hoping Evelynn hadn’t caught it. Honestly, she just needed to blurt the whole thing out. They needed to be punished. Emma cringed though at the thought of tracking them down, scared that the same thing would just happen again. She was weaker, and less reactive, not having expected the two to attack a prefect and potentially bring more trouble down on themselves.

She moved towards the door area, stretching to reach any out of the way areas, and even in the very darkest of corners, not sure if where exactly they had gone. All she knew was that a spell had been cast that she hadn’t seen the effects of so her wand could potentially look like anything or be anywhere at this point.

Emma chuckled sadly, realizing that she needed to spill the story now, before it became impossible. She looked towards Evelynn, and weakly grinned. “I’m sure it will be a funny story sometime….well maybe not?” Emma really was delaying as long as possible. “I had given two students detention, and had told them what they needed to do but they…didn’t really like that. Draven and Regina managed to catch me off guard with a few spells I wasn’t expecting when I tried to block their way, but obviously that didn’t work very well. They took my badge, and did something with my wand. Honestly they may still have it. By that time I was frozen on the ground so couldn’t really see very well.” Emma looked away, looking into another area of the room as a distraction, trying not to think of what Evelynn must be thinking of her right now.

"They stole your badge?" The question echoed from a short distance away, Evelynn pausing in her hunt to glance back towards the girl.

That was.. not ideal. Granted, it wasn't as though the badges provided prefects with any sort of special privileges or accesses, but it could still be used deceptively. There was enough turn-over in the ranks that somebody who didn't make an effort to keep up to date with the hierarchy of their own—or other—Houses, or who was new to the school, may not realize a lie if someone were to try to claim to be a prefect who wasn't. The imbalance of power and ability to coerce someone into giving information or performing a task, then, could be problematic.

"Who?" This was the biggest question on her mind. And one that was quickly answered. Miller and Mirador. Shoulders rose and fell with the disappointed breath she had released as she turned back to peering up at the chandelier. She knew little of the Slytherin boy except of his exploits on the Slytherin team. But Miller... Evelynn had admittedly hoped for better.

I do not need a babysitter. It had been spoken with such resolve. Such indignation. And yet, to then turn around and defy the rules on such a level as to blatantly attack a prefect... It was recklessly imbecilic in a way that left Evelynn feeling rather angered. Nothing good came of behaviour such as that. She had truly hoped that the warnings administered and the request to keep an eye on the girl had been unnecessary. That she would prove to be misunderstood and simply rough around the edges. A little polishing alone wouldn't be enough to rectify this, however..

"If there is a piece of advice I might give you.." Evelynn spoke up unemotionally, then, "it would be to know your strength. Know when to stand. Know when to flee and seek help. Miller may be young, but she is an accomplished duellist and skilled with her spell work. Alone against her, you were out-matched. To stand against the pair of them when they had resolved to defy you... that was foolish."

There would be no sugar coating it. No cushioning. In truth, the girl was lucky that it had only been two petulant children who had bested her, and not one of the more sinister denizens of the castle. If Evelynn had to inject a bit of tough love to ensure that she made the right choice in future, so be it..

"There is no shame in seeking help."

Still circling the base of the light, she adjusted her wand and moved the beam of the light around to try to find that strange shape again that she had previously glimpsed. After a moment, she paused and glanced back in Wynn's direction. "What was it they had done previously? Why were they in detention?"
