Emma had struggled for quite a bit after sending an Owl to Draven and Regina detailing that their detention would be held in the Rehearsal Room at 2:00 PM, today (May 7th, 2022). This was the first time she had given detention and as such, she didn't want to be too harsh, but also not let them get away with their behavior or have them laugh at her. Honestly, she had debated just having them write essays, but that seemed.....to be a bit less interesting than Emma would want for her first detention. Emma wanted to do something different, though it was tempting if only so she could stop thinking about it. But in the end, it hadn't mattered. A thought had randomly popped into her head while humming one of her favorite Broadway songs, and she had grinned happily to have finally settled the issue.

Emma had arrived shortly after a late lunch, her bag full of odds and ends of crafting supplies and things she had collected once her idea had appeared. She had also grabbed several rolls of parchment, quills and ink. Her bag had felt so full, and heavy that Emma was glad when she could set it carefully on the ground, rubbing her shoulders to relieve the ache. She had gotten out the parchment, ink and quills, setting them on the floor out of the way.

Watching the door, she watched as the students entered the room, grinning as she realized that the room had been perfectly chosen. Clearing her throat, Emma waved them over. Folding her arms loosely in front of her stomach, she looked nervously at the students. "So....ummm... well you've made it to detention. I thought instead of writing an essay, you could write a short play, then create a few props and act it out. You're able to work together or separately if you'd prefer. But you'll both be working on the same topic." Pausing, Emma made sure they were still paying attention before continuing, her voice growing louder, in an attempt to overcome the nerves in her stomach. "You'll be doing a play demonstrating the dangers of being in out of bounds areas, whether that be Hogsmeade before your first year or the forbidden forest or any other space that may be out of bounds for various reasons." Emma nodded, hoping that it made sense to the two students.

Draven had started eating again. The shadows underneath his ribs had grown smaller, dark circles underneath his eyes slowly fading. Time was a picky doctor, treating only the few who had garnered his favor. It passed by viciously for some, painting their hair silver and cutting into their skin, blurring the world and leaving them unable to do much but sit still and look pretty. But time built others up, lending them strength and grace, healing old wounds and bringing closure.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, Draven Mirador was one of the latter. And he'd gotten a full night's sleep.

Walking into detention was a familiar feeling by then, oddly enough. Like coming home. Of course, 'home' and 'Regina Miller' were oxymorons and as such shouldn't have been used in the same sentence by anyone who still had all their marbles. Draven gave the girl a look. He's arrived a few minutes before everyone else, and taken his place against one of the grand columns in the rehearsal room. Dressed to the nines, with Deimos sitting comfortably on his shoulder and surveying the occupants of the room, the boy very nearly blended in with the background.

The prefect had been the second to arrive, carrying a bag of writing supplies Draven wouldn't have touched even if you'd paid him. It was nearly an insult to the tree who'd died for parchment to write on it with such cheap ink and an even worse quill. He and Deimos exchanged a look.

There was no greeting from the prefect.

She wasn't much. Red hair which looked much better on another, a round face her barber didn't know how to compliment with a proper haircut, eyes that were neither blue nor gray settling for a murky in between color, pale skin with the faintest hint of sunburn painted on the bridge of her nose and across cheeks. It wasn't a flattering look. Draven paused for a second, his eyes scanning her frame. She was too pale to be wearing dark colors. Warm tones mixed with pastel fabrics, perhaps some dangling earrings to accentuate her j-
"You could write a short play, then create a few props and act it out"
Draven's brows furrowed, eyes narrowing in her direction. Why was she so familiar? Potions class, perhaps? No. Mx. Achillean was in his potions class. Charms? No. That was Mr. Gwild. History? No.
"You'll be doing a play demonstrating the dangers of being in out of bounds areas"
Draven's eyes cleared as he laughed. "You're in my DADA class. Ms....Wynn, was it?"

𝕬lthough the youngest Heiress of the Millers was anything but dramatic, there was something to be said about the way she entered the Rehearsal Room clad in her usual expensive clothing and her chin held high as if she wasn't walking into her very first detention session ever that was surely going to leave severe repercussions should words travel to her stern and unforgiving Father. It was the first, and last time she was ever going to attempt such a foolish act. She held herself accountable for not thinking it through, of course, but there was a large part of her blamed it on sneaking out with the Mirador Heir as her companion. Regina was no stranger to the boy's notorious reputation of always getting detention, but it seemed that staying close to him had inevitably made his bad luck rubbed off on her.

She would always think twice before going anywhere with him ever again.

Speaking of the devil, Draven was leaning against one of the columns near the back of the room, quite literally one with the shadows as it was hard to spot him out at first glance. It was typical of him, Regina thought, as she knew he was never the one to deliberately make himself stand out. A cold glance was the only interaction they shared after Regina stopped at the opposite corner, folding her arms in an imperious stance as they both waited for the Prefect to show up. Even though this was a punishment, Regina wouldn't be caught dead showing any humility.

Especially not in the presence of two underclassmen.

When the Prefect finally showed up to explain the task, the ravenette's face remained inexpressive up until she said that they had to perform a play about the dangers out of Hogwarts bounds. Regina already had a questionable first impression of the Hufflepuff back at the first semester when she couldn't even cast a decent transfiguration spell, but this was ridiculous. She'd rather write out a full essay instead. The idea of having to work with Draven, much less act with him, was entirely dreadful given they couldn't be in the same space without arguing for more than five minutes.

"Wynn, huh? At last, a name to attach to a terribly common Muggleborn face," Regina interjected. "Have you been getting better at casting spells? Do you still need guiding and demonstration?"

It was uncharacteristic of the Gryffindor to start off with such an abrasive remark right off the bat, given her current situation, but there was some resentment there for having her Hogsmade plans with Draven foiled. She wasn't going to regret it, though.

Probably.

Alright, so Emma hadn’t expected outright enthusiasm considering it was detention but she didn’t quite know how to handle outright laughter from Draven. Her mouth fell into a frown and she momentarily hugged herself tighter before straightening her back. “I believe I am, Mr. ummmm….Mirador?” It had taken a moment to place the face and honestly she wasn’t quite sure she had succeeded. “I don’t know what that’s got to do with your detention.” She added, trying to pull off a bit of a haughty tone but likely failing miserable, unsure of how to best do so. But she had been chosen to be prefect and she didn’t think that failing at her first detention would give her fellow prefects much confidence in her. She was determined to prove herself, knowing that she could do that. Or at least that was the refrain that repeated in her mind as she stood near the two.

Her eyes widened and her faked confidence took a hit when Regina, who she had not had the greatest first impression of, mentioned her common muggleborn face and brought up her failure to cast the spell. Breathing out noisily, Emma’s eyes tightened and she glared at the haughty girl. Her temper was slowly rising and she reminded herself that she was a prefect and couldn’t behave negatively. “Excuse me. You don’t need to be so rude. And yes, I’ve worked hard on my casting and it’s certainly improved. I think I’ll be perfectly fine without your….instruction.” Emma gritted the last few words from between gritted teeth, not impressed at all. It wasn’t like she had truly asked for her help, and if she had known it was going to be thrown back in her face, she would have walked away.

Taking a breath in then out, Emma forced her face to go back to a more neutral expression, unclenching the fists that had clenched themselves. “Now are there any questions?”

Draven laughed. "Oh it has everything to do with the detention!" he beamed, pushing off the column, amusement dancing in his eyes. It was funny, how stark the comparison between the three kids was. Regina and Draven were dressed in fine, expensive clothing and held themselves with the air of high royalty whom had been disturbed from their tasks. Ms. Wynn on the other hand....was just Ms. Wynn.

Draven moved soundlessly, the smile tugging at his lips not quite reaching his eyes as he approached the prefect, distance between them closing at a concerning rate. "You see," he purred, stopping before her with a saccharine grin, "I don't quite understand the danger."

The spruce wand had found its way into his hand. He was playing with it, twirling it across his fingers, colorful sparks dancing at its tip. Green and silver lit up the two kids' faces. "It seems a little strange, don't you think? For you to be walking about the town, all alone. Ms. Miller and I were in a pair, at least. We're both proficient spellcasters, dare I say, a bit more proficient than you. So why is it, Ms. Wynn, that you're giving us detention?" His arm had wrapped around the tiny girl's shoulders, leading her (willingly or not) towards the door of the classroom. "How about we just put this entire mess behind us, and part as friends?"

𝕿here was an unspoken rule between the two young Purebloods, one that had been established over the course of time without either of them having to explicitly acknowledge out loud. The moment there was a common enemy, Regina and Draven were automatically on the same side. They became allies against one.

And once they chose to side with each other, they were certainly a force to be reckoned with.

A smirk slowly appeared on Regina's face as Draven took the initiative and taunted Prefect Wynn. She pushed herself off her own little corner as he approached the Muggleborn, clearly enjoying the intimidating show he was putting on when he got up close and personal with his wand brandished. If Emma Wynn was smart, she would understand her position and not provoke both of them any further. Regina knew Draven didn't make empty threats, and neither did she.
"It seems a little strange, don't you think? For you to be walking about the town, all alone. Ms. Miller and I were in a pair, at least. We're both proficient spellcasters, dare I say, a bit more proficient than you. So why is it, Ms. Wynn, that you're giving us detention? How about we just put this entire mess behind us, and part as friends?"
"He's right, you know. Not to mention, you are most likely not as well-versed in the dangers of the Wizarding World as we, Heirs of prestigious Pureblood families, are," The ravenette had flanked Wynn's other side as Draven draped his arm across her shoulders, both of them now crowding the little Badger domineeringly. "We are not easy to be messed with, you see. It is better to have us as allies than enemies."

Regina made no attempt to hide the underlying warning behind those words. She allowed the meaning to sink in, the smirk on her lips still present as they not-so-subtly coerce the young Prefect towards the exit. It was clear that though Wynn held a superior position to both of them, there was a clear difference in power and prowess between her and them. The Lion-Snake duo was not planning to back down easily and let the girl have her way.

Emma was definitely not enjoying the attention being placed upon her at the moment. And for more than just the fact that she did not like to be the centre of attention, but that it was clear the two students were not impressed with being in detention. Especially as Draven moved closer to her. It was clear the height difference and Emma felt as he got closer that he was growing even larger. Fear continued to grow as he got closer, and he started playing with his wand. Emma reached in her pocket, grabbing it tightly, but leaving it in her pocket for the moment. Honestly, she didn’t feel like she knew enough. Deciding she needed to say something, Emma latched onto the question that honestly sounded kind of rhetorical. “Th-he d-d-diff-f-ference is I-I-I had p-permission to be there. N-n-n-neither of you d-d-d-did.”

Emma was frustrated that words were becoming harder to say. She didn’t stutter but her fear was starting to overcome her speech. Emma’s eyes flicked to Regina as Draven wrapped his arm around her shoulders, guiding her towards the door. Looking towards the door, she tried to decide if she felt it was worth it to continue. But in truth, this was the first time she had ever been in this position. But she also didn’t want to fail and knew it would haunt her unless she at least attempted to stand up for herself.

Doing her best to bring the taller student to a stop, she said “N-n-nooo….you are doing this.” Emma’s voice grew a little stronger, and she clenched her teeth, attempting to stand strong. Especially when Regina made the comment about purebloods. That frustrated Emma and gave her some extra courage that seemed to at least lessen the fear a bit. “Well then the assignment should be relatively simple for you two to complete. You broke the rules and now you must do detention.” Emma started off speaking slowly but by the second sentence, her words were beginning to run together. Ducking away from Draven’s arm, she turned to face the two, blocking the doorway, her arms crossed tightly over her chest with her wand gripped just as tightly in her right hand.

"Perhaps you shouldn't have." Draven crooned, words sticky and honey sweet. "Getting all flustered in front of two normal students... one might wonder if you're really fit to be a prefect." He and Reggie exchanged a look. They'd flanked Wynn on both sides, and whether it was shock or fear that made the tiny girl allow herself to be led away, it was working in their favor. "It's alright though," the slytherin smiled, his hand on the door handle. "We all make mistakes. No hard feelings."
“N-n-nooo….you are doing this.”
Wynn ducked under his arm, planting herself in front of the door with a determined expression. Cute. Suicidal. But cute. Draven raised an eyebrow in her direction. "No, I'm not."

There was a tiny voice inside Draven, screaming at him to put his wand down. Telling him to humor the prefect, that it would only be a couple hours. That at the end of the day, the trouble which was brewing over their heads was in no way, shape, or form worth it. But that voice was small, merely an annoyance.

His wand had warmed up in his hand, eager. Gray eyes took in Wynn, the stubbornness with which she was standing in his path. She almost. Almost. Looked like her.

"The essence of tyranny" Draven said pleasantly, wand dancing across his fingers. "Is the enforcement of stupid laws." Green and silver sparks lit up the three kids faces as he stalked forward, methodically narrowing down the list of places Wynn could use to slip away from them. "I think you're smart, Ms. Wynn, despite your difficulty grasping basic spells. And a smart person would move out of my way."

𝕽egina raised an eyebrow at the Hufflepuff's foolish attempt at bravery after literally stuttering like a meek little prey. She felt her anger spiked when Wynn suddenly moved away and stood in front of the door, challenging both of them in such a commanding stance with that insufferable superior tone. Who did this daft dimbo think she was?
How insolent. It appears another lesson is in order.
The Gryffindor understood the cue when Draven began to stalk forward, her own aspen wand sliding down from her sleeve and crackling with red sparks in contrast to her partner's green ones. Her expression had gone cold and unforgiving, feeling the familiar darkness that had been suppressed for so long rising with every step she took to approach the Hufflepuff Prefect. Regina stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Draven, her calculating mind already going through the list of spells she had in her disposal to subdue the Badger should a duel truly break out and the possibility of unwanted interventions. There were only the three of them in this room right now, and if Wynn chose to run out, the Lion-Snake duo would have the chance to escape on their own. If Wynn retaliated, well...

She would be digging her own grave.

"You heard him, Wynn," Regina threatened, the burning feeling of her magic warming the tip of her fingers through her wand. "Step aside."

Being restrained and commanded reminded her too much of home, of an unaffectionate Father, a stern Mother and a dastardly older sister. She was not at the Miller Manor at the moment. She was in a place where she could have the forbidden taste of freedom. The freedom of not having to be perfect. The freedom to be herself and act on impulse with someone who understood.

Someone like her best friend trustworthy ally Dray.

They were going to show Emma Wynn exactly why no one ever dared to mess with them.

Emma was embarrassed and angered by the words Draven said about not being fit to be a prefect, her cheeks flushing. Admittedly it wasn’t anything she hadn’t thought herself. After all, while she enjoyed rules, she detested conflict and even though the majority of the job did not involve conflict, there was enough possibility there that it had given her pause. And now it had seemed that Draven had spoken the words that she had thought several times since becoming a prefect, ones that sometimes haunted her it seemed. Emma’s determination was fading slightly, the words etching themselves onto her brain and Draven’s voice repeating them on a never-ending loop. There was a slight stutter to her words once more, her doubt growing. “Y-y-y-yes, y-y-you a-are.”

It was a weak reply, but it was all she had to say at the moment, not even attempting to defend herself from the harsh words he had thrown at her. But then as the green sparks erupted from Draven’s wand, and then Regina’s, Emma knew the threat was very real. But…..she couldn’t get past Draven’s previous implication that she was unfit to be a prefect, and she knew that if she stood aside, even when being threatened that, she would truly live up to the words that had echoed in her head before and Draven had just so clearly spoken. “Th-t-they’re n-not stupid. Y-you’re being f-f-foolish, th-threatening a-a p-pr-prefect.” Some of Emma’s bravado had returned, but not enough to stop the trembling of her voice. She couldn’t even recall one of the spells that she had learned and should be familiar with by now considering the year end tests weren’t that far away.

“No! I-i-I d-don’t th-think so.” Emma’s head turned to more fully focus on Regina as she joined in the threatening manner of Draven. The red and green sparks emitting from both wands had Emma clenching her wand even tighter if possible, her knuckles going white and her nails digging into her palm. Trying to come up with even one spell that she could use against the two older students, she stalled for time. “You’ll be in even more trouble if you hurt me.” Emma’s didn’t have time for fear s she struggled to remember what her classes had drilled into her head over the year.
