Midspring Celebration
As far as the games went he couldn't blame her, Elsian didn't quite fancy flying tag in a dress either! Fire or not!
Seemed a dreadful pain.
Sneering playfully at the girls' dramatics Elsi plucked at the clasp holding the simple, short cloak like shawl around his shoulder, lazily letting it plop next to his bag; it was hardly chilly enough inside to need it yet, whilst Dakota seemed to weigh her options. Literally. Tilting her hands this way and that as if she had any other choice in the matter! She didn't. Not anymore anyway, no no, now it was a matter of childish pride that she had to dance with him. He gasped in dramatic outrage, copying her previous action and throwing a hand atop his chest; he was an amazing dancer, peak of grace like a bloody Disney princess, thank you very much!
She held out a hand. Dancing it was.
He was instantly appeased.
“As the Lady of Butterflies demands.” He tittered with a laugh, voice drawn in a joking elegance as he moved to her side. Taking her offered hand they turned to the dance floor, briefly pausing by the edge to wait patiently as the previous slow song came to an end. He hummed thoughtfully, with a mockery of seriousness as he tilted his head to face her. “I dare say Milady Butterfly, how shall we make our entrance to the dance floor this evening?”
“Hmm, a fine question…Perhaps skipping?”
“Ah very well then, shall we?”
“Indeed!”
For a moment it would appear like the makings of a respectable, normal entrance onto the dance floor for the duo, hand in hand and posed at odds with each other in fake elegance as they mocked each other in the fairytale-like setting. This of course was decidedly not the case as the two suddenly dropped hands and Elsian, with utmost dramatic haste offered his elbow, unable to stop the small laugh bubbling in his chest when they linked arms. It was silly, silly and stupid and they probably seemed ridiculous to a few stick in the mud attitudes but it was fun.
The two bumped into each other fumbling not to trip at times as they skipped jovially in step together onto the dance floor with the rest of the poor fools who simply wanted to have fun dancing, as was usually one of the big points of said events.
He paused near the middle of the floor, among their peers just as a new song began to play, filling the room and becoming a odd, slightly funny type of filter to the drama skimming the walls of the room from those not dancing. It did a fine job of blocking out the distant drama of the few classmates that always seemed to draw the worst of drama to themselves. How nice!
With a dramatic whirl of his skirts he moved to face Dakota, bowing with a flourish in a mock of princely manners; the upbeat orchestra kicked up as he straightened and partners began to dance. “Milady Butterfly.” he offered his hand, snickering at her dramatics whilst raising his arm to twirl her in a dramatic start to the quick beats of the instruments.
“Promise to only crush a few of your toes,” he teased, easily taking the lead in this particular dance.

As the child left her sight, Illowy released a short, quiet scoff, the corner of her mouth curling upright with a small sense of amusement. The girl would be fine, she was sure. After all, aside from the bit of innocent ruckus that seemed to be stirring up, things were alright so far tonight. At least here. There was still more of the dance to see.
The snake rocked slightly on her feet, weighing if she might migrate to the next part and beginning to turn to do so when she noticed the child starting back to her again. Why was she coming back? Was she to be a beacon all year for first years to hover to? Couldn't they guess by looking at her she wasn't the fluffy, friendly type? Maybe it was the dress... should've gone darker.
Her pale eyes shifted a bit as the girl asked if she might stay with the older witch, trying to find some way out of the situation. Someone she recognized, someone that needed her assistance, or some place she needed to be.... to no avail.
Thin fingers brushed a curl of out her face and behind her ear as she looked back down at the child, "I'm not exactly exciting to be with at parties. I'm sure you'd have more fun with your friends, poppet. They're probably looking for you." she insisted. However, if the girl was considered spending her night on Illowy's coattails, perhaps she didn't have friends there at the moment to join. Not unlike herself.
Oh, she just knew she was going to kick herself later for this.
"You're welcome to join me if you like." she invited, resisting to urge to sigh about it, "I may go to the courtyard later if nothing happens here. You can come with if you like." making a gesture towards the door before folding her hands at her waist, "I'm Illowy Magnard, by the way." she added, offering a polite nod of her head before her eyes lifted back towards the crowd
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

april 2, 2022. interacting with @evelynn decipio. The last ball Ivy had attended here at Hogwarts had been the student-run Blossom Ball of 2020. It had ended in flames, literal flames, with Ana burnt to a crisp and gigantic mosps stinging the hell out of a large number of students. As such, she had been rather hesitant to attend this one, but could you really blame her? Still, against all odds, here she was, decked out in pink and sporting a new hairstyle courtsey of one Aurora Ranvier. Her wand was in the deep pockets of her dress, hidden between the tulle folds of her skirt. Yes, not only was Ivy's dress beautiful, but functional too, with pockets. It was a feature she found very useful.
Tonight, Ivy was tagging along with Evelynn and this guy named... Marshal, was it? She didn't have a date in the traditional sense. There had been a boy or two in France, but there was no one here that had caught her eye yet. Besides, Ivy had found a good friend in Evelynn, and she could think of no one better to attend the ball with.
She would respond with a laugh at the redhead's comment in reference to Rafa D'Spacito. Some things never changed around here, and the rivalry between Rafael and Evelynn was almost the exact same as it was when Ivy had left Hogwarts in 2020. "He surely will not bother us. I'll make sure of it. Do you suppose he's in there?" They turned to enter the Great Hall. Ivy barely got a single glance at the setup when a piece of food came flying past her. "What the..." She blinked at the food fight happening in front of her, incredulous. So Hogwarts balls hadn't gotten any less chaotic since she last left. Damn, no one could get their shit together around here (including her, but that was besides the point.)
"The courtyard?" Ivy followed Evelynn quickly out of the Great Hall, nodding in agreement. "Yes, I think that would be wise..."action: entering the great hall with evelynn decipio and leaving immediately to the courtyard.

If anyone had asked Sage if she came with a date, she most likely would have poked their eyes out. Did you need to have one to attend a ball? What would she need a date for anyway? The twelve-year old cared not about such things, obviously. Besides, if she truly needed a companion, she could just ask Sophia.Action: Sage enters the hall and waits. Open to interactions.

To the lanky brunette, all that mattered was getting a look-see at the event everyone had been talking about for days. What in Merlin's beard was the fuss all about?
It was interesting how one event could put some adolescent girls into a tizzy - over what to wear, no less. Amidst the elegant ballgowns and fancy suits, it would be clear to Sage that most, if not all, were dressed to impress - as if it were some tactical move to soften the enemy. Was that it, after all, distraction?
Sage's attire was entirely ball-inappropriate; more suited for frolicking in the English countryside, she had (somewhat cluelessly) opted for her usual ensemble: though instead of a skirt, she had worn a sweater over the least frumpiest dress she could find.
She leaned against a pillar near the entrance, keeping a lookout for a certain redhead. They'd planned to meet up at the Hall, curious to see how it had been transformed into something fit for a celebration.
It would seem the organisers had pulled through. The Hall was prettied up with flowers, some were familiar while some she had no names for. There was a banner for each school, festooned with flowers that represented their culture, Sage guessed. A feast not only for the eyes, but to the olfactory senses, too, it would seem; but for those with pollen allergy or reactive sinuses, not so much.
Her mother would certainly be delighted by the floral display. She ought to keep some flowers for the older woman, press them into bookmarks as a souvenir of some sort. At the thought, she instinctively cast a worried gaze at the notorious goblet of fire, feeling slightly ill at ease as its flames burned brightly into the night. Admittedly, Sage wanted to get a closer look, maybe chance a student willingly hand their fate over to a mere trophy cup. Leaving her spot would mean missing her friend's entrance, however.
Besides the ball, Sage had heard there were going to be activities… and food. Something about a potluck, the flyer had said. She would’ve brought something, too; she wasn't allowed in the kitchens, though. She might’ve bribed a house elf to make her favourite dessert, but she’d be in hot soup if someone found out she was giving them extra work. The girl scuffed her lace-ups against the floor, inspecting the hem of her sweater, seemingly lost in her thoughts.

will code post laterThe fact that @Eun-ji Lee Hunt's father had chosen his daughter's dress made Ye-jun laugh for some reason. Maybe it was because Eun-ji's grandmother seemed to like fancy clothes? Eun-ji's dance attire was evidence enough of that, but the dress which she was currently wearing wasn't any less fancy in Lucia's eyes. Well, maybe it was a family in-joke. She supposed she should get used to that.
Lucia laughed at Ye-jun's joke even as he politely declined Lucia's offer to carry a box for him. He was right, of course: there was little chance of them losing that bright-red suit among the mostly not-red-clothing everyone else was dressed in. Him carrying the boxes rather than Lucia was probably also for the best. The Beauxbatons boy seemed far more skilled than Lucia at making sure that they didn't all fall out of his arms, and he carried them to the table with ease.
A wince couldn't be hidden when @Samantha Salwis began babbling on about Ye-jun's name. Admittedly, Lucia had thought the same thing when she'd been introduced to the boy, but had quickly figured out it was probably the Korean way of naming. Samantha, though, not only thought it but spoke it out loud, including a rushed crash course on how to introduce yourself which Lucia thought was quite rude, although she likely didn't mean to be. Ye-jun could probably explain by himself, but if he didn't or paused for a moment Lucia would attempt to rescue the situation. "It's a Korean name, and Korean names have the family name - the surname - first. Ye-jun's forename is Ye-jun." Was it still called a forename when it came last? Lucia wasn't sure but figured that was the easiest way to explain it the the confused-looking second-year.
Despite Samantha's happiness at seeing Eun-ji, Lucia was pretty sure now that the older Ravenclaw had spoken that the feeling wasn't mutual. Eun-ji seemed awkward and unwilling to really say much to the younger girl, and politely all but refused to dance with her. Lucia was happy to be the excuse if Eun-ji needed one, so she nodded. Rather than pointing out that Lucia and Ye-jun could just dance together while Eun-ji danced with Samantha, the Hufflepuff just said, not unkindly, "Sorry."
Samantha seemed very excited at the prospect of a magical comb that could do her hair for her. "I'm... not sure," Lucia said after thinking for a moment. "Sorry, I can't remember where I got it from."
Another thing Lucia was happy to be was food-taster, so she lit up at Eun-ji's suggestion that she try some of the food. "Yes please!" Lucia didn't need the other girl's words to convince her that the little rice thingies - Ye-jun had said they were Korean food, but Lucia didn't know anything about Korean food so couldn't identify them - would taste nice: they convinced her by themselves. "What's in them?"
Samantha unwittingly opened up the perfect opportunity for Lucia, Eun-ji and Ye-jun. Clearly, Eun-ji didn't want to talk to her, so Lucia decided to do the honours. "Most of it, yes." There weren't many circumstances in which you could abandon your date at a ball. "You should probably go and find her."

Trying to shake off Samantha Conversing with the group
Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji couldn’t help but cringe upon hearing the flood of questions pointed in her cousin’s direction. This all just because he introduced himself. It was borderline fascinating. The witch honestly had no idea how Samantha’s brain even functioned and she gladly let Ye-jun take the lead on that one. She was not in the mood for lecture. The boy could handle it just fine on his own and it seemed like Lucia decided to help. Fortunately, it didn’t take too long for the wizard to describe the name treatment in different cultures. His explanation made sense to her, now they just had to hope it made sense to the underclassman as well. If it didn’t, the girl would no doubt come with more questions to solve the mystery.
“What?” The Ravenclaw blinked in confusion. She straight up zoned out for a moment there. Next time? Oh…Oh no. She didn’t mean that literally! Well you should have known better than that at this point. She scolded herself for giving Sam anything to work with in the first place before answering. “No…I wasn’t coming up with a time plan or anything. That’s just what people say in these situations, don’t they? I don’t necessarily know. Definitely not tonight though.” Or ever. “We should look after our own company tonight.” The date excuse seemed to work for now and so Eun-ji decided to stick with the reasoning for now. Thank God, for the Hufflepuff by her side that once again offered her support. Unlike someone, she was clearly quick to pick up on the shift in Eun-ji’s attitude. The Ravenclaw was also quite happy to see her interested in the dish they brought. “It’s Bulgogi Kimbap. Korean seaweed rice rolls with sesame oil filled with marinated BBQ beef, carrots, yellow radish pickles, egg omelettes and cucumber. It’s really good I promise.”
Unfortunately, the tasting was soon interrupted by Samantha, who went ahead and asked for advice regarding her date. Eun-ji didn’t mind this time. It was a good opportunity to send the junior witch on her way. “I see…You should definitely stick to them for the whole night then. It’s only natural especially if it’s your first date. You don’t want them to feel left out while you hang out with somebody else.” She looked around before realising she didn’t know who the date was or if she would even know them. Probably better if she didn’t. “So…aren’t you supposed to meet somewhere? You shouldn’t make her wait if that’s the case.” Eun-ji tried her luck again.
To be fair, while she was mainly trying to usher Sam away, her words were mostly true to her opinion. Eun-ji didn’t necessarily believe the pair needed to stick together for the whole night. Different circumstances required different behaviour from the people involved but she did believe nobody should be feeling left out on their date. Not to mention, she also didn’t like to wait for her company to arrive alone in the room overflowing with people. This meant overall Eun-ji didn’t even feel too guilty about her final advice. After all, she only gave Sam a somewhat simplified version of what she actually wanted to say.

Roleplaying as Lee Ye-jun from Beauxbatons – Encyclopedia
Violet in English, Red in Korean and Blue in FrenchYe-jun barely stopped himself from following Eun-ji’s example and sighing. It would not be polite to do so in front of somebody he just met. He was however starting to understand why his cousin wasn’t eager to indulge the young girl in a longer conversation. Although as far as he remembered, Eun-ji din’t use to mind hanging around chatty people. He made a mental note to ask about that later. For now, he had a question of his own to answer.
The boy knew the mechanics behind the different name order quite well but by the time Sam finally stopped talking, he almost felt confused himself. Lucia even managed to jump in before he collected his thoughts. “Lucia is right, Ye-jun is my first name and it is indeed a cultural thing.” He confirmed. The Beauxbatons student wished he could just stop there but he had a feeling, the young witch wouldn’t take it as a sufficient answer. “You say your first name first because you have a European name. My name is Korean and I grew up in a Korean family so I’m used to introducing myself accordingly. Many Asian countries do that actually.” Was that enough? No, she would probably still ask about Eun-ji, right? “Eun-ji has a mixed heritage so that’s why she introduces herself as Eun-ji Lee Hunt. After all, she wasn’t even Lee before this summer. Or well…she was, but the name was not officially in her papers and since she kept the Hunt last name it makes more sense to leave the Korean last name in the middle. It would sound strange otherwise” There, now it should be clear. At least he hoped it was.
Thankfully after that, most of the conversation happened to be directed at the girls. Ye-jun felt almost sorry for them but he was also selfishly glad that he didn’t have to participate. He wasn’t necessarily keen on making new meaningless relationships and this girl just seemed exhausting if he was being honest. He could see how she could become a good friend to someone but Ye-jun probably didn’t fall into that category and he was pretty sure neither did Eun-ji. At least she has a date then and won’t be sticking around. The boy thought contentedly while eyeing the delicious looking Kimbap they brought. He was not allowed to steal any more but it sure was tempting. At least Lucia would be able to have some.
Ye-jun let his cousin explain about the dish. He knew what was in it of course but Eun-ji was the expert when it came to cooking. He looked around, now very aware of some people throwing food and frowned. They had better keep their hands off my mother’s cooking. He honestly had very low opinion of people that showed no respect to food and whomever made an actual effort to prepare it. Food was an important part of his heritage. It was used to gather family together and honour their ancestors. Ye-jun was almost tempted to take the lunchboxes away again but he knew that wouldn’t be fair to people that actually looked forward to tasting the potluck dishes. Well, let’s hope those ruffians won’t get to them.

Sophia wished she had some kind of reasonable excuse for her tardiness, but the truth of the matter was that she had simply fallen asleep after getting dressed for the Ball. She had been up all night wondering what kind of wondrous things she would see. After all, this wasn't just a normal Spring celebration, it was a magical spring celebration. She expected to see unique decorations and dresses that would stick with her for years.
In a way, she wasn't disappointed. Even just on the walk to the Great Hall from her Common Room, Sophia saw some marvelous dresses that looked as if they belonged in a fairy tale. She also felt horribly underdressed in her boring, green dress. It didn't just look like an old church dress. It was an old church dress. Her old church dress, in fact. She'd worn it to Mass - along with a few others - for a few years now. The only upside was that she was finally starting to grow into it, so it fit her fairly well.
She watched fellow students scurrying about in the corridors, frantically racing this way or that. She found it pretty funny, and she was thankful she wasn't in their shoes! So much pressure for what was supposed to be a relaxed party!
Yes, Sophia was thankful that she was meeting up with her good friend Sage. Both of them seemed to have similar expectations for the Ball, and they were just going to check it out in a low-stakes, no-expectation evening full of fun.
As the redhead approached the Great Hall, she could hear the bustling crowd from far away. Her hair fell into her eyes with every few steps, and she was reminded now why she normally wore it up. She hated wearing her hair down without straightening it, but apparently wizards had some weird bias against electricity or something, so she couldn't have brought a straightener even if she'd thought about it.
She scanned the crowd looking for her friend. Part of her wanted to admire the decorations. After all, there were so many flowers. It was beautiful, and she was curious how many she would actually recognize. She wondered idly if there were any marigolds, but she pushed the thought aside. She had more pressing matters to attend to.
Theoretically, it wouldn't be hard to find the taller girl in the crowd, but with her curly red locks blocking her vision every time her head shifted, Sophia was struggling a fair bit. She kept looking until she finally recognized the familiar bob cut. Aha!
Sophia wasn't a complete idiot when it came to social blunders. She knew that this was a dignified event. Or, well, it was more dignified than a normal class meeting, at least. She fought her every urge to yell out, 'SAGE! SAGE!' and run over to the girl. It would be highly inappropriate, and, as her mother used to often remind her at Easter Mass, she was supposed to present herself as a lady. That meant ladylike manners.
She fought back her excitement at seeing her friend and slowly walked over to Sage, noting, with relief, that Sage was dressed more casually than many of the other students as well. It was refreshing and at least they almost matched in the semi-casual attire!
"Hey, Sage," she said with a smile, "Fancy meeting you here."
There. A dignified and casual joke. The perfect greeting for such an occasion!

“My, you scrub up well, don't you?”
Truly, even Sage’s artistically untrained eyes could appreciate a flattering outfit on someone. Anyone but herself, that is. Not that she minded, these sort of things were lost on her for some reason or another.
“Look at that,” the girl held out her hands, gesturing around the Hall with a chuckle. “...your first magical party!”
The girl supposed a Midsummer Celebration counted as one, and Sophia would likely have attended a Muggle version of it. She wanted to know how it compared; Sage was sure it would involve more ingenious inventions like that self-inking quill called a pen. If so, wouldn’t that be more exciting than magic? Ah, but this was hardly the place to discuss that; they had a ball to check out, remember?
There were several highlights offered within the Hall itself; the Goblet of Fire, the potluck tables, some activity sign-ups, the ball itself… She had also heard in passing that some students were setting up crafting booths in another area. Furthermore, if her nose has yet to succumb to the perfumed assault of the floral décor, Sage could clearly smell something burning.
“See anything interesting so far?” the brunette grinned, returning to her friend’s side. She figured they couldn’t go wrong with whatever Sophia’s excitement brought their attention to. If anything, Sage had long since considered the redhead’s reactions as a gauge of some sort.

Maybe she does," she agreed, "though I'm not against socializing, but I'd have to say I'm more of an introvert majority of the time. I prefer to spend my time in the library, or in the Rehearsal Room, as you know," her gaze was knowing as she glanced at Pax, referencing their first and less than friendly meeting.
The Ravenclaw took notice of the way Pax's smile widened as she disagreed with traditional Pure-bloods, and she couldn't help but smile back at them in return. "Not necessarily predictable," she said, "but you have to admit, playing games is right up your alley. But no," she shook her head immediately, "I won't be participating in any of the games. Especially not in this dress," she gestured down to her dress, that definitely was not game or any sort of physical activity friendly.
Adelaide let out a breath, "It's fine," she said to Hiro, she wasn't going to make a big deal out of him accidentally stumbling into her, "I'm Adelaide Barlowe." She introduced herself. She smiled at his compliment, "I do like to take good care of my hair, and that's a cool hobby. I can definitely tell," she gestured to his pink hair, "your pink hair is really nice."
She couldn't help but wince when Hiro mentioned his 'unfortunate incident', "You're very optimistic," she commented, "I definitely would not forgive someone if they ripped my dress like that. I'm a first year, so I haven't been at Hogwarts that long. What about you? Have you been at Mahoutokoro long? I'd love to visit it sometime, but I don't think I'd ever be able to unless they had an event and invited the other schools like Hogwarts does."
Adelaide turned her attention back to Pax as they spoke, "Yeah, the dress does suit you. You definitely pull it off really well, and I'd almost mistake you for a girl!" She let out a soft laugh, "A very pretty girl though, don't worry." She contemplated Hiro's question, "I don't mind. We can either move to the festival or stay here."
