Spring Races Gryffindor V Ravenclaw Spectator Thread April 2022

This was not something he tended to do.

Kim wasn't the type of person to come to a Quidditch or Broom Racing event.

But after Sage had dragged him to make banners to support the teams, and the professor in charge told them to come to the event with aforementioned creations, he didn't feel as if he had much of a choice. So he'd gotten here early, hoping to avoid the crowds, and chosen a place far away from the main cheering section. But of course, he was still within the section.

After all, he needed to be in a certain section in order to cheer for the racers.

It was raining and he was wearing a light black jacket with a large blue flower embroidered on the left hand side of it, designed to withstand the rain, with a white shirt underneath.

He was also wearing dark pants.

Kim sighed as he placed his banner beside him, having gotten someone to cast an Umbrella Charm on him beforehand, so the item wouldn't get wet out in the rain.

He really needed to learn how to do that himself at some point in time. Kim glanced around and was satisfied to note that he seemed to be the first to arrive. What great luck. From his current vantage point, Kim could see the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw team getting themselves ready for the race. A house elf passed by him and offered him some hot cocoa and sweets.

Kim couldn't resist the urge to get some.

Damn them.

He was trying to save his money and here they were crowding around, tempting him with sweets! It was downright unfair! But so delicious.

Ah, that was so good. Kim sipped the hot cocoa and then picked up the banner he'd laid down beside him on the bleachers. Taking out a small towel he'd brought with him, he unfolded it and placed it down on the planks. Placing the banner down again onto the towel, Kim seated himself down on the bench. Wrapping his arms around the warm drink, he looked down.

He'd purchased a small pile of sweets from the house elf. A small box of chocolate frogs, a couple of marshmallow biscuits, some chocolate bars and a bunch of his favorite chocoballs.

Yes, he was a chocoholic, don't bug him.

Kim put the chocolate bars and chocolate frogs into the pockets of his rain jacket and left the other sweets on his lap. Maybe he should have gotten tea instead. But the house elves had been selling the hot cocoa, so he'd gotten that which he had to admit was delicious. However, there was an abundance of chocolate now. Perhaps too much? Nah, that was impossible.....

He unwrapped a chocoball and bit into it, relishing the taste. Yes, this was literally the best dessert he'd ever had in his entire life. It was simply perfection.

After making banners and signs, Juniper was MORE than ready for this race. With her funny sayings and cheeky chants, she was ready to embarrass her besties in the best way possible. What were friends for if not to embarrass each other? Exactly. Practically useless. Just kidding. Friends were so much more, but mainly for that. Her signs were in plain site so she wouldn't forget them, and as she marched out of the dorm she grabbed them. In the common room, she found her baseball thrown on a cushion from a few days before. Thankfully the house elf hadn't taken it. She grabbed it and twisted it backwards on her head. She would of brought Poppy, but it was not ferret friendly weather. But it was perfect broom racing weather. Meaning, anyone could cheat under the covers of dark clouds. Wonderful, isn't it?

Juni walked outside earlier than the actual race so she could grab a seat next to a pleasant person. She could feel and smell the rain in the air, so it was obvious the seats were wet. A few people were already getting seated, but Juniper was able to spot someone out right away. She ran along the row right behind Kim, stopping behind him. He hadn't yet noticed her. Perhaps he was too invested in the treats on his lap. The TREATS! Juniper eyed the chocolate and snatched one up from him as she leaped over the seat into the one next to Kim. "Thanks!" The first thing Kim might notice was her outfit. She was wearing a faded blue jumper with blue tinted jean shortes. She wore her Ravenclaw scarf proudly (although she fidgeted with it ) she wasn't a fan of scarves at all. What contrasted with the blue was her green Holyhead Harpies baseball cap, but she didn't seem to mind. Her red hair was in a long brain down her back. She had on long blue socks. Despite the fact that it was raining, she was unbothered by the rain hitting her legs.

Kim was a boy she quite liked. He was fun to tease for one thing. What a coincidence that their houses were going against each other? "We're going to beat your booty." She said, matter-of-factly. She munched happily on the chocolate she snatched from Kim, grinning in his direction. "Long time no see, mister. How's life been?" She actually saw him not that long ago. They have history of magic everyday together, and she always sits next to him. But she hasn't really seen him outside of classes. "I was beginning to think you only existed in classes!"

He wasn't paying much attention to his surroundings. After all, there weren't that many people here yet, so there was no need to do so. Even when he heard the sound of running footsteps, he didn't look up or move. It was only when someone snatched a chocoball from his lap and then vaulted over the back seat to take a seat next to him that Kim reacted. He was about to give the person a rather annoyed look when he recognized the person there.

Juniper Kelly.

It seemed as if she had come to support her House too.

"June." He said, using the nickname he'd come up with for her, after the two had gotten a little closer together in class. It was a unique name he didn't think anyone else used for her.

So it was something special that only the two of them shared together as 'friends'.

She looked pretty good, dressed all in blue.

The only thing that looked off was her green baseball cap. But personally, Kim thought it looked good on her. And once again, her long red hair was pulled back into a long braid which hung down her back. Kim was starting to like that braid and briefly entertained the idea of doing the same thing himself if his hair ever got that long. But then again, he wasn't sure if he'd look as good as Juniper did with one. He sipped some more cocoa, thinking a bit.

And then, Juniper said her House was going to beat his House.

"We'll see about that. Only time will tell." Kim said with a smirk.

"We tend to have a good track record at quidditch and broom racing, unlike with the House Cup." He told her, feeling a bit confident.

As Juniper munched happily on the chocoball she'd stolen from him, Kim offered her a marshmallow biscuit too. "You should try this with it, it makes it taste even more heavenly." He told her and then held out his hot cocoa. "You want a sip of this to wash it down? I think the house elves will come around again with their trays soon. But in case you want something before then you can share with me." Kim told her.

When Juniper asked how he was, Kim made a face. "Same old things going on." He commented, trying not to think about what had happened at the Blossom Ball. "I'm trying to learn more spells, charms, potions and all those types of things before I graduate. There's also my many club activities." Kim said with a shrug. "What about you? You doing any extra-curricular things?" He asked, curious about Juniper.

As his 'friend' spoke about how she thought he only existed inside classes, Kim shook his head. "It certainly feels that way sometimes. I want to explore and go on adventures but with homework, studying, classes and all my extra-curricular activities, it doesn't feel like there's enough time in the day!" He said with a sigh and wondered if he'd taken on too much at once. No, there was no such thing. Not with him.

Kim flashed an annoyed look in her direction, to which Juni only stuck her tongue out. He finally realized it was her after a split second and greeted her as cheerfully as one would introduce themself to a chocolate thief. "You know what? You're right, Kim!" She munched on the treat and raised an eyebrow in his direction. A little bit of chocolate still in her mouth, she spoke again. This time, she covered her mouth to hide the chocolate she was still chewing. "We will see." She calmly looked ahead for a few seconds. They will see. Yes, they would see Ravenclaw WIN! She turned to Kim quickly. "See Ravenclaw KICK YER BOOTY!" She shouted in a boisterous manner. She sat back, laughing at her own expense. "Ah, but you know who DOES have a good record with the house cup? She waved her braid to the side as she smiled cheekily. "Ravenclaw." House competition aside, she was glad to see Kim here. He was fun and made History of Magic so much more entertaining than it actually is.

Kim offered her another treat and she glanced at his hand. She didn't take it but instead, she looked at Kim as he explained what it was. Deciding it wouldn't hurt, she took it. "Yeah, thanks!" She held it in her hand and inspected it, then took a bite. They were- really good. She reacted instantly. "Dang! Wait that's REALLY good!" Juni was a chocoholic, but mainly with chocolate frogs. However, these were almost just as good. She made a mental note. "What are these called, again?" She was pretty sure she could find these at a shop somewhere. She needed them.

"Thank you thank you." She took the drink from him and took a small sip. She didn't mind sharing a mug with him. He was almost a brother to her at this point. Someone to annoy and to hang out with. Seriously, he puts up with her like a brother. Kim explained that the same old things were going on, trying to learn and bla bla bla. She listened to him, swallowing the hot cocoa and handing the mug back to him. "Wait, I never told you!! Yes, I'm the second-string keeper on the Ravenclaw quidditch team! Isn't that cool? " She was proud of that position, even if she wasn't first-string. The first-string keeper was amazing. Aly Salinger, Juniper quite liked her.

Kim said he felt the same way. She laughed and nodded. "Right??!! Gosh, we should fix that. " She took her wand out as an after thought. "I'm so stupid, hold on." She knew the umbrella charm, and she was letting them get wet this whole time. "Pluvia Velo." Thank god she paid attention during that spell. "There we go."

Kim rolled his eyes as Juniper cheered for her House.

Still, two could play at that game.

"Aren't Ravenclaws supposed to be good at learning and intelligence? Gryffindors are supposed to be the ones who are bold, daring and active. Broom Races are more of the latter than the former. Therefore, it stands to reason that we should be the ones to win all the time. Past races have apparently proved this." Kim said matter-of-factly with a faint smirk. Yes, he'd done some research into this.

If he was going to be cheering for his House at a broom race of all things, he might as well find out more about it before he came. And then Juniper messed with him again, over Ravenclaw winning the House Cup multiple times in a row. Kim sighed, not able to refute this. "For now. You just wait. When there are more people sorted into Gryffindor, we'll make a comeback." He told her with a shake of his head. It was true.

With new blood, there was always a chance.

It all depended upon how eager they were to win House Points.

As Juniper took the aforementioned sweet from him and bit into it, she expressed her delight at the taste. "I told you." Kim said with a smirk.

When she asked what they were called, Kim looked down at the package. "Marshmallow Biscuits." He told her and opened one himself, to bite into it and the chocoball in his hand at the same time. Yup, it was a delicious combination. Kim didn't think much of sharing his drink with Juniper because she was Juniper. He'd known her for a long time now. Or rather what felt like a long time. She was actually one of the first people he'd met at Hogwarts here.

That is, people he'd met who had stood out to him. He took his mug back and warmed his fingers around it again. It was around this time that Juniper suddenly got excited all over again and told him about her latest news. Kim raised a brow and a faint smile came to his lips. "Oh? That's great, June. I knew you'd be able to get something awesome like that!" He was about to say more when she abruptly took out her wand. What was she doing?

Ah. The umbrella charm.

She didn't realize someone had already cast one on him earlier.

But Kim wasn't about to tell her that, as it seemed as if she wanted to cast one on both of them. It wouldn't hurt to let her to do so.

"Have you ever considered Broom Racing instead of Quidditch?" He asked, curious. For those who liked flying, how did they decide which they wanted to do? Both seemed like fun to him, if he hadn't had this fear of heights. But as it was, he couldn't even stand to put his legs over a broom. What was odd was he didn't seem to get affected much when watching others. It was only when it came down to him in person that it bothered him.

--- Date: 09/04/22 || Time: Just before 2 pm ---

Sophia ran through the rain with a hood covering her head. It was raining so hard, and she wanted nothing more than to curl up in bed with a book, wasting her Saturday away in warmth and comfort, but she felt an obligation to attend the Broom Racing event. Not just because of her house pride, but because, for once, she’d kept up with the date of an event and knew when and where to be. It helped that the school-wide decoration-crafting was only one day ago.

She was still getting soaked, despite being bundled in a heavy coat, so she was quite cold. There was a spell for this, she knew. They’d learned it in Charms, but she was worthless in Charms. The Umbrella Charm. What was that incantation again? Sophia groaned, frustrated at her lack of ability and out of breath from running to the race all the way from the castle.

She certainly wasn’t dressed for running, in her heavy boots, leggings, and thick purple coat. The only thing she was wearing that didn’t contribute to her discomfort was the longer-than-her-usual black skirt, which was thankfully loose and comfy.

She arrived to the spectator area and noticed only a few students had arrived so far. Sophia wasn’t used to being early.

She scanned the thinly spread crowd for familiar faces and smiled when she saw not one, but two familiar people, and they were sitting together!

“KIM! JUNI!” she yelled as she ran toward the two, unaware of the conversation she was interrupting. Her feet splashed in the mud and puddles as she got closer. She saw Kim’s banner and felt a bit bad about forgetting her own, but the rain would have ruined it anyway.

She reached the pair and grinned, breathing heavily. What a workout! Her hood was now too soaked to be of any use, and she could feel the rain soaking through to her hair. The neat ponytail felt heavier than normal as water dripped from the hair and ran down her head and neck. She resisted the urge to shake dry like a dog. It wouldn’t help anyway, with the rain still falling hard.

“Hey guys,” she panted, “Ready for Ravenclaw to win the race?”

A little smack talk was fine between friends, right?

"𝕿sk. If you had not been so insistent with dragging me along, I would never be bothered to come here and witness this hooligan lot fighting on brooms," The ravenette scoffed, though one could probably tell that she was more or less pretending to be annoyed. "This is why I am a duellist, it is a sport with much more finesse."

With an umbrella held between them to keep the rain out, Regina weaved between the crowd of spectators with Faye's hand held tightly within her own. After spending time together at the Blossom Ball, she'd gotten more use to the strange but not unwelcome physical contact with the auburn-haired Ravenclaw and had been subtly looking for opportunities to 'experiment' it again. This time, it was under the pretense of not losing each other in the sea of people coming to watch the race. Whether or not Faye would be sharp enough to notice the real reason, Regina kept her usual aloof demeanor--she had a reputation to uphold, after all. It was fortunate that no one would easily see their hands holding in this big of a crowd, especially since all eyes were attentive where the two House teams were on the field.

Despite her words, it hadn't been difficult for Regina to agree to accompany Faye when the other girl had seemed so excited over the prospect of broom racing. The setting was convenient as well, since her presence wouldn't be questioned as she could just claim she came to support the Gryffindor team in spirit. It was a decent cover-up for her true intention--spending some quality time with her crush best friend. Regina gave Faye's fingers a gentle squeeze on instinct at the thought.

Yes, this is quite pleasant indeed...huh? Is that--?

Regina's steps came to a halt when two familiar faces on one of the benches popped into her line of vision--Juniper Kelly, that insufferable little gremlin and Kim Sato, her underclassman and friendly mentee. At the sight of Kim, the Heiress paled as her mind raced with millions thoughts of how their parents were closely acquainted and both sides were very traditionalist. Regina and the boy had grown as friends over the months--such was inevitable when she had been instructed to look after him--but there was no telling whether or not Kim would mention of her 'coziness' with Faye to his parents, which word would in turn flow to her parents...ending in imminent disaster. Pureblood Heirs did not mingle with Muggleborns, such was the lesson she'd been taught as a child, the term Mudblood being thrown frequently from her ever arrogant and imperious father.

She couldn't let him know. The punishment would surely be severe.

Forgive me, Faye. Please do not resent me for this.

Regina swallowed nervously as they approached the other Ravenclaw and Gryffindor pair, dropping Faye's hand rather abruptly and schooling her expression into something characteristically neutral.

"Good afternoon, Kim. I was not aware you would be spectating here," She greeted the boy with a polite nod before giving the other redhead with a cool glance. "And...Kelly. I am certainly not surprised you would be here, as I expect someone like you would enjoy watching such a rowdy sport."

Kim was distracted as he heard his name being yelled out and turned his head, wondering who was calling him. Ah, Sophia. Through the rain, Kim could just make out a thick purple coat, what was up with purple this month?, and a soaked human beneath it. He shook his head, wondering why she hadn't used the Umbrella Charm, or at least brought a regular umbrella with her. Apparently, she knew Juniper too, since Sophia had called out her name.

He picked up his banner from beside him and placed the towel down on the floor. And then laid the banner down on it and gestured to the now empty seat beside him. It would be dry by now. "Sit down." Kim told the girl. When she did, Sophia would realize that she was now being kept somewhat dry, due to the Umbrella Charm that had been cast on Kim before. Double the charms, if you counted Juniper's too. He looked over at her for a second or more.

And then she made a remark.

About Ravenclaw winning the race. Kim raised a brow at her.

"Apparently, you don't know how this works. Gryffindor will win this race because you can't find any better players on brooms than Gryffindors. Wait until the race is over and you'll see red and gold colors in first place." Kim told her with a smirk. "Here. Have a chocoball, they are my favorite and I got a bunch of them." He said, offering one to Sophia. In his opinion, they were the most delicious treat.

How could you go wrong with chocolate, clotted cream and strawberry mousse?

Well, unless you were allergic to strawberry or chocolate.

But then, you wouldn't buy or eat one if you were, right? "So you two know eachother?" Kim asked, letting his eyes flicker from Sophia to Juniper. It was around this time that another set of people showed up at the scene. And rather than sit in the middle or the front of the bleachers, the best area to cheer from, they also came over to where he was. What was up with that? Why were they all coming towards him? It didn't make sense, at least not to him.

Did he have some sort of charmer presence about him that he wasn't aware of? He'd chosen this location so he wouldn't have to sit with a huge group of people. But it was turning out to be completely the opposite. People seemed to be drawn to him instead for some reason. Kim reached down and sipped some of his hot cocoa before setting the mug down on the floor at his feet again. And looked up when his name was spoken yet again. More people Kim knew.

Oh god, hopefully he wouldn't end up seeing Stalker here too.

That would just take the cake.

But maybe by that time there wouldn't be any room around him for the boy to get near him. Kim shook his head, trying to forget about what had happened at the Blossom Ball earlier that month. It was just him overthinking things, that was all. Since Kim had been preoccupied with Juniper and Sophia at the time, along with his own personal thoughts, he hadn't noticed Regina approaching with Faye. So he missed their handholding at the time.

Although if Regina hadn't dropped Faye's hand before addressing him, Kim would have definitely noticed the action. A faint smirk came to his lips at Regina's surprise.

Surprise that he would be at a broom race of all things.

She was one of the few who knew how deadly his fear was of heights. Or at least he suspected she knew from their first initial meeting at Hogwarts. "Me too." Kim agreed with her. "I was actually dragged into it by someone. And then discovered I was expected to come cheer at the broom race in order to complete the event to gain my House points. So I had no choice in the matter." He told her with a shrug of his shoulders.

"That's why I'm here. What about you? Did you come with your friend?" Kim asked as he glanced over at Faye. "Nice to see you again, Faye." He said with a nod, having already met her a few times before this. "Were you the one who brought Regina here?" Kim asked, knowing Regina wouldn't have come of her own accord, she wasn't that type of person. Like him. "Or are you two here because of the event too?" He said.

Sophia took the seat beside Kim and smiled at him. His confidence was wonderful to see. It was her favorite thing about him. Well, that and his knowledge. He was brilliant.

She started to offer her own response to his more elegant smack talk. Something like, ‘The sky belongs to the eagles.’ However, she was silenced by the chocolate treat offered to her.

Sophia was almost ashamed at the way her mouth began to water. She justified her hunger in her mind by reminding herself that she hadn’t had lunch yet, and she did have a day of fasting coming up. Wasn’t one day of indulgence okay?

She accepted the snack with her thanks, but her eyes didn’t leave the chocolate piece. She was savoring its flavor as Kim asked her about Juniper. Oh man. That was a wild story. She looked to Juniper as she licked her fingers clean of the chocolatey goodness.

“We met at the Common Room, but there was also this one adventure we had with two boys, a cup of cocoa, a lizard, and an almost-fight. It was so wild.”

Before Sophia decided to elaborate, even more people arrived. Wow, Kim sure was popular, but that didn’t surprise her in the slightest. He was so great.

She sat back and idly watched the conversation between Kim and the two other girls while she waited for the race to start.
