Warching your underclassmen duel was sometimes a truly depressing experience. It seemed that the term who had held the reigns last round was now in deficit. Eugenia stayed crouched and thankfully, the worst didn’t happen. Lest she got hit by a curse going awry…

Mikaela seemed to do good in spellcasting, pointing her wand at the sky and vanishing the angry, dark cloud threatening to strike. The relief was, however, short lived. Eugenia watched as Nick aimed and threw Mikaela’s wand out of her hand. Even though the stick hadn’t landed far, it was still far enough to need searching for. It was kind of sad seeing it, just as it had been with Lilly, because she knew that it hurt to feel defenceless, without a wand.

Nick’s teammate, Lilly, was not payed any attention by the other duellists as she searched for her wand. Eugenia, who had seen the general location it had gone towards as an outside observer, realised that the Hufflepuff was getting closer to reaching her goal.

Well, Eugenia had been wrong after all, hadn’t she been? Penelope, the only first year of the duel, pointed her wand at Lilly getting poised to cast. Eugenia almost lost her mask of composure when she saw something completely wrong in the girl’s wand movement. She could almost anticipate the backfire, the light leaving the girl’s wand the other way. Instantly, Penelope looked like she was suffering from a bad cold, her face much paler than usual. In the heiress’ eyes, you could spot some concern as she looked at the young badger. She didn’t want the poor girl to vomit on the floor.

Well, she didn’t want to remember what had happened with Darkest Night back in Second Year, the inky vomit on the kids they had needed to drag to the hospital wing staining their clothes and her hand. Cursed…

Looking at the Silver Wands and then the other team, Eugenia wondered how they’d react to the new data and adapt their strategies.

I felt my stomach tvist as I pointed my wand towards Lilly.

I tried to remember the spell I had practised but my nerves got the better of me. My wand moved the wrong way and suddennly the spell shot back towards me.

I froze.

A strange feeling hit me and my face went pale. I lowered my wand a little trying to understand what had just happened.

This was going terrible.

I quickly looked towards Mika. She had already lost her wand leaving me to face the other team with mine.

I looked around the platform and saw Lilly still seaching for her wand.

Maybe I still had a chance.

I took a slow breath and tried to focus. I could not let one mistake make me give up.

I looked towards the area where Lilly was searching and saw that she was getting closer to her wand.

I tigtened my grip.

I raised my wand againn this time more carefully. My hands were still shaking but I tried to remember what I had been taught.
I aimed at the other team and prepared to cast another spell.

I had never imagined my first duel would be this difficult. I was thinking I would simply cast a few spells, maybe doge one or two, and that would be it.

Instead I was standing in the middle of a chaotic duel, without much experience trying my best not to make another mistake.

I took another breath.

I was nervous.

But I was not going to give up.

I raised my wand once more and focused on them.

This time I will be more careful.

There was news. Good news and bad news. The good news was that there was no storm anymore! Great! No one would get hit by a lightning now!

The bad news was that the storm disappeared with my wand. It was in my hand and, the next second, it was in the ground between us and them. Fuck. Now I needed to go for it.

And once I have it, I'm gonna destroy Jameson. What was his problem? Did he really have to- Ok, no, focus. Find the wand first, fight Jameson later.

But now that I think of it, I may as well punch him on my way there. Or just spit on him. Or-

Since when am I so violent? No, wand. I'll fight like a wizard. I don't even know how to throw a proper punch! And being honest, Jameson's kinda scary... I had to think of a good plan. Now that Penny was at his mercy, only the Saints knew what he was capable of doing to the poor girl.

"Ok, hold on, I'll be back." I said, turning around to take a last look at her before going for the wand. I had to act quick, smart and fast. Hopefully, I'd get it before the next round started, and I could keep protecting her...
