The bare truth was that Eugenia was relatively new to duelling. Having joined the team days before the Spring Matches and having lost her first match due to the sheer exhaustion that constant spells would cause, she wasn’t exactly the most weathered of duellists. But she had already watched matches enough times to know how to moderate one, and was for once brave enough to host a duel, during the actual school year, with dueling captains definitely present. The Greek put flyers all over the school trying to get people to join and in a single day, she had managed to get four responses. She arranged a meeting with each of the candidates telling them the day she planned to host the match, but she kept their partner a secret. Ah, the century old element of surprise.
She then proceeded to read rules like never before, devouring a tome in one night. The other times, she could have been spared, but now anyone could be watching. She had to be absolutely sure, although she had committed most rules to memory. After a certain point, she didn’t know if it was to satisfy her own perfectionism and slightly obsessive tendencies when it came to being informed, or to make her a more rounded and correct duellist. Practice was poured in new spells as well, parallel to classwork and duelling practice, as well as the newly-attained for her, Patronus Charm soon creating application..
When the day of the duel came, she stepped effortlessly on the piste, kind of relieved she was not casting today… at least competitively. At the promised time, the four duellists came closer, and she beckoned for them to step on the piste as well. Smiling politely and having a measured expression to hide her nerves, she shook her robes and started to twirl her wand. “Alright all. Welcome to this unofficial duel. I hope you are well prepared. The pairings are as following: Nick, you’ll be with Lilly. That leaves you, Mikaela, with Penelope. Now, please go to opposite ends of the piste.” She gave the duellists a moment to walk there. Then, she continued.
“Since I don’t know if you’ve done this again, here are the rules: firstly, only approved spells. Secondly, no contact, no potions, and no intentional targeting your teammates.” She looked to the duellists for another moment. “Oh, and please no spells directed at me. Play fair guys, don’t attempt to murder each other, however spectacular that might sound.” Eugenia took a step back and allowed the younger kids to get poised.
“Ready, Set, Cast!”

date; 17/09/26 ──────xABILITIES.Second duel in a month. I was definitely making a record here. But, as I repeated myself every night and day while practicing the spells, the more experience I can gather before joining the team, the better. Plus, I was bored, and the idea of having another experience close to death seemed more thrilling than doing another essay. Not like I hated it, though. I love essays. But sometimes a girl needs another distraction.
Said distraction came in the shape of another duel, this time moderated by... The girl of the first night. The one with the funny name, Eugenia. Nope, no more memories for today. Today it was a good day.
"That leaves you, Mikaela, with Penelope." I looked over at her and... Huh, Hufflepuff. Never saw her before, so she was surely a first year. A Second with a First. Fair. We'd work something out.
I waved my hand at her with a little smirk. Yeah, she was definitely new. I'd make everything to make her first duel experience as amusing as it could be. Or keep her alive, which was basically the same thing.
"...don’t attempt to murder each other, however spectacular that might sound."
Ugh, where's the fun in that? What is the point of a duel if I can't try to kill Nick at least once?
I approached my teammate. She seemed really cute. What's the worse that could happen? I offered her my hand, introducing myself.
"Hi! I'm Mikaela, call me Mika." I greeted her, with a smile.

I stood inside the Duelling Club holding my wand tightly in my hand. My heart was beating fast so I kept taking small breaths to calm myself.
This was my first time duelling and I was already very nervous.
The rom was huge with a high ceiling lit by countless floating candes. Stone tiles covered the floor. At the far end was a raised duelling piste where the matches took place. On the left side were mechanical duelling dummies with metal wands in their hands and wooden bleachers were on the right.
Above us were portraits of famous duelists watching the students. Everything about the room made the duel feel much more serious.
Then the moderator 'Eugenia Smyrnidi' began announcing the pairs.
"Penelope with Mikaela."
I looked up and saw a girl walking towards me. I had seen her around a few times but we never spoken before.
She was of average height, with pale skin and black, wavy hair tied into a perfctly neat braid. A few small freckles were across her nose and cheeks and she had slight bags under her eyes.
She came closer and ofered me her hand with a smile.
"Hi! I'm Mikaela, call me Mika."
I smiled and shook her hand.
"Hi, Mika. I’m Penelope Kneen, you can call me Penny. It's nice to meet you."
I glanced towards the duelling pite again and continued "This is my first time duelling, so I’m a little nervous".
"Magic can make anything happen. It reveals itself only to those who have eyes to see it"

Lilly walked into the hall, nervous for her first duel. One of the only parts of the castle that she had not yet explored was the duelling club. There were several groups of people scattered around the spacious room. She noticed the group of people she was duelling with, and seemed to recognise one of the girls from the Hufflepuff common room.
Lilly listened carefully as a fourth year, Eugenia Smyrnidi, another girl she had also noticed wandering around the common room, started explaining the rules. “Nick, you’ll be with Lilly.” Lilly nods and smiles at Nick in a greeting. She also faintly recognised his and another ravenclaw’s face as they were in the same year.
“Hey! I’m Lilly.” She greeted Nick. He had an interesting eye colour, a mix of green and blue that seemed to change as the many candles flickered. “I haven’t done any duelling before so don’t be expecting anything amazing,” she added, the nerves in her stomach not leaving despite her controlled breathing and best efforts to ignore them.
She turned back to their moderater as Eugenia recapped the rules of duelling. Lilly took another deep breath, feeling better at the fact that she wouldn’t have to be the one to awkwardly ask what the rules were.

wc including ooc must be at least 229Another day, Another duel and again that Henderson girl being in the Same duel when when the moderated Eugenia or something announced there teams got paired with a Hufflepuff and was against Henderson great I’m going to die when he moved to talk to his partner Lily her name was Hello as this is your first Duel a few things I’d recommend a) DO NOT DIE OR GET KNOCKED OUT and b) at least try to dodge spells ah yeah and c) If they shoot spells at you don’t be afraid to shoot spells at them but I have seen people just stand idle as there being shot at with spells he then turned back to the moderator as she explained the rules as she didn’t know if anyone had done anything which was quite good as lots of moderators just told you to play fairly and not to kill or cheat she one was actually telling people the rules if they didn’t know Nick for once was impressed with the competence of Eugenia as a moderator. Nick looked at the other team as he got in a duelling stance and cleared his mind and stared at the other team not menacingly yet not any other emotion yet confidence. And with a flurry of spells, the first round of casting began. The four duellists seemed to be in their full levels of concentration, as a spell came out of each person’s wand. Eugenia, still standing, crouched down a little, in the even of a spell missing by a huge margin and perhaps hitting her straight on the face. If it had happened on official duels, it could happen here as well. But thankfully, it didn’t.
First to cast was Mikaela, of the team that apparently seemed to be a depiction of girl power. Her spell, quite powerful it was, shot out of her wand hitting Lilly straight on the chest, her wand flying out of sight. It would take the girl a good long period of time to find the poor stick again and, until then, she would have to do without a wand. However, the spell hit not before the Hufflepuff cast a hex of her own, heading for Penelope who dodged it, perhaps not with the ease of the experienced duellist, but still efficiently. Truly, Eugenia didn’t want to catch the flu.
Penelope was next, her spell heading towards Nick, who narrowly dodged it. Eugenia winced at the miss of the first year, for it was so narrow it could have landed if Nick were a little more inexperienced. She could only hope it didn’t deter the young girl, as it seemed to be her first time on the piste. On the other hand, Jameson whipped out a fine weather modifying charm. Dark, stormy clouds manifested of the two girl team, the thunder baring it’s teeth at the heiress’ underclassmen. She only sighed, the memories of what happened with Axyen’s monster cloud last duel surfacing. You weren’t enough to win.
But then, she managed to suppress the urge to lament. If the kids saw her discouraged, what would they think? So she smiled and waited for them to cast once again.

"Oh, don't worry, Penny. I'll take care of you." Ah, the thrill of your first duel. At least, I hoped this little girl didn't die in her first experience. That would give a very bad impression. No, no, she wouldn't let her get hurt.
Specially in a duel against Nick. That guy with a wand in a duel was the devil. And I say it as her partner. Reckless, dumb, a man... sigh.
"Let's go. We have a duel to win."
The first round was... incredibly good. I guess being paired with a Hufflepuff gave me luck or something. My expelliarmus hit. Great. It actually looked like a duel was working as it should.
Then Nick hit. And a very bad cloud formed above our heads.
I sighed.
"Seriously, Jameson?" The old trick? He was truly falling behind on his own capacities. "Don't freak out, Penny. Careful with the lightnings. Try not to get hit." A shudder came down my spine as I rememered the last duel. Paul getting hit. Paul not getting up. Paul's scar on his arm. All because of me. My fault. My-
Not the time. Focus. I had to protect this girl, even if it meant letting my memories aside.

I smiled at her words feelig a little better. That was comforting to hear especialy because my hands still felt shaky.
"Let's go. We have a duel to win." She said.
I replied confidently "Yes."
I followed Mika onto the dulling platform. The open space suddenly felt much larger than before. Lilly and Nick stood across from us and I tightened my grip on my wand.
Before I had much time to think Mika was the first to cast.
Her spell shot forward and hit Lilly straigt in the chest. Lilly's wand flew away disappearing somewhere across the duelling area.
My eyes widened in amazement.
That was fast.
Lilly still managed to cast a spell before losing her wand completely. A hex came fling towards me.
I quickly moved aside.
I nearly lost my balance but the spell missed me.
I let out a quiet breath of relief. Atleast I had managed that.
Then it was my turn.
I raised my wand towards Nick trying to remember everything I had practised. I took a breath and cast my spell.
The spell flew towards him.
For one second I thought it was going to hit.
But Nick moved away at the last moment.
My stomach dropped a little.
It was so close.
I pressed my lips together and tried not to let the miss bother me. It was my first duel. I could not expect every spell to work perfecty.
Then Nick cast his next spell.
Dark clouds suddenly appeared above Mika and me.
I stared upwards.
Thunder rumbled.
"Don't freak out, Penny. Careful with the lightnings. Try not to get hit." She said though she looked worried herself.
I looked back at Mika and nodded quickly.
"Okay."
I moved away from the centre keeping my eyes on the clouds. A flash of lightning made me jump a little and I quickly lifted my wand.
This was definitely not how I had imagined my first duel going.
Still I was not going to stand there doing nothing.
I took another breath and focused on our opponents. My heart was racin but I tried to ignore it.
Mika has already shown me what a proper duellist could do.
Now it was my turn to try agin.
"Magic can make anything happen. It reveals itself only to those who have eyes to see it"
