Some people like to cycle through unread messages for hidden gems. It is actually pretty neat.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Hiya Zach!

I love the new update. It makes it more visual for which floor you want to go to. I love the banner/header on the top of each forum,I will definitely be using for a description in my RPs instead of Googling!

The floo system makes navigation easier and the coding of the flames it super cool! I also think that the navigation is easier to use via mobile (woo) and will be easier for newer users.

Just to say it again, this update was a big change, but it was definitely a brilliant makeover for the site! Thank you for all of your time, effort and perseverance to get us this update! <3

THANK YOU!!!

The new update looks awesome!! Thank you for all the work that you've put into it, Zach! It's definitely gonna take a minute to get used to the changes, but it does look very nice.

One small thing, I can't toggle the rememberall animation, which- I love it, the animation is wonderful. The issue is that my computer does not enjoy this animation as much as I do.

Other than that, everything's awesome!

Hiya Zach,

Thank you for all of the updates. I know this has been a very time consuming process, and difficult to code with the site (and poudlard) being up and used during this time. I know you have more changes that you are planning, and I hope they come to fruition.

I do have a small request, and I have no idea how easy it would be to bring back. But, I really liked the unread notification that occurred on the forum names when navigating to them that was there previously (as in, when using the crest icon previously, there would be a dot on a forum name to indicate a new post in that forum). But, no need to prioritize such an idea, as I know you are still hard at work. Please do take all the time you need to make the changes you are hoping for. Resolved

I still remember the very first time I tried to navigate around the site and found myself grasping over the fact that I am lost from how many forums are existing and opened to a first year like me. I've been here for more than a month already and I can say that despite many changes currently happening right now, I do love the improvement of the navigations! It's so easy and there's also a search bar now for easier access of the location I want to go to without having to sort each drawer tabs just to find it. Plus! I love the new choices for the fonts! There's not just one but three more fonts to choose, and I absolutely adore the Charter font (aaaaand, I'm happy to see that there's a font specifically chosen for other users with sight problems).

Also, I have seen the current discussion and how divided people are when it comes to the issue of the background images now existing in the site. I do know where I stand when it comes to AI discussion, and I'm really proud of them for standing up to their opinions and on what they think is right and better for the site and community. But I'm not here to discuss my side, rather, I am glad and grateful to see that you have given everyone the decision to toggle the backgrounds on or off (even if it's still in ongoing vote, I like that this feature gives both sides a chance to pick their own preference). It's a good thing that there's still room for everyone to decide on their own whether to enjoy the new background images and the animations or stick to the plain backgrounds to avoid gen-AI usage.

All staffs and moderators working tirelessly for the continuous improvement of this site, you're all downright amazing. I really, really, really respect you all guys for all of these. I have no other request to suggest in this post as of the moment as I am a bit satisfied (even if you toggle the backgrounds off, the site was still the same with the plain background, just no animations) with the updates. I hope you all get to have some rest after doing a difficult process like this.

Thank you so much Zach and everyone behind your team! I really appreciate all the efforts and hard work you all put through for this site and for everyone of us in the community!

Not Zach, but I just checked the preferences, and you can turn the notification dot on in the House Crest navigation by changing this setting (Show which places have unread posts in the crest menu) to Yes. It's set on No by default.

Pffffft. I can’t believe I haven’t seen that. I have been in the preference page to change fonts. XD Thank you, Aiko! <3

So like I said everything looks AMAZING. I love the new options and Im so excited you said there might be a bit more customization on the bottom bar in the future.

I just thought of one possible feedback. I get now why we don't have hovers anymore. I actually don't mind too much, the only reason I needed them was because I always forget where the spell stores are (the first year study corner, second year study corner, etc, which are currently on the fifth floor). I wonder if those spell store forums should have its own category like the houses do that makes it more obvious to find? It seems like something people will want to find quickly quite often!

I could just use the Floo search of course, so this might not even be necessary. I could also save them with the awesome new shortcuts feature. So Im happy to try those new things out too

Hi Zach,

I love the update so far (as I stated on my Orion account). I was wondering if it would be possible to add a link to drafts on the right drop down menu? I cannot see a way to get to drafts unless we change it to be an option on the bottom bar.

Thanks!

Hi Zach,
first of all I want to say thank you! I personally really like the update. The images look great, the customisations are awesome and the new functions are not only visually appealing but also helpful.
I especially like the option of quickly getting to the common room on desktop again!

I have some suggestions for the bottom bar shortcuts (these are just ideas as you also mentioned in the updates that you plan to develop these further):
  • first, maybe even the first button (floo) could be customisable. I am wondering why there is even the navigation from the hogwarts crest and the floo system? It has more or less the same function (maybe the search and shortcuts could even directly implemented in the top-left menu), so for those who mainly use the navigation dropdown, this button could provide another place to choose another shortcut, maybe even fully customisable to a forum or thread of choice
  • additionally/alternatively, the bottom bar could have a similar "drop-down" (in this case it's rather a "pop-up" though :D) as the remembrall, trunk and profile at the top. Clicking (or hovering on desktop) on the buttons shows potential other options. If you want to keep Floo, unread/new messages and mostly the third button customisable, that third button could open an overlay just like the buttons at the top row and provide the "my messages", "favourites" etc. as options. That would at least reduce one extra site loading as we are directly transported to the respective pages.
Again, if full customisability is granted, it could provide some slots for the user to fill with forums, threads or areas that the user is frequently visiting and therefore wants to access quickly.
I don't know how the coding works, but since it's already done in the upper menu bar (with the drop down), I thought it might be similar to that.
  • the owls might also be nice to have similar as the remembrall. The remembrall dynamically shows the latest posts from followed threads or mentions. Clicking on the owls button could also bring up a list of latest owls or unread owls to immediately navigate there. Would be nice because it prevents one extra site load as one can jump directly to that unread message.
Then I noticed a few things about responsivity towards different sizes of screens and have some suggestions as well:
  • On bigger screens the hogwarts crest and top right icons in the upper bar are not on the outside anymore. Maybe this is on purpose but since the background is further extending it feels a bit arbitrary where they are located then. Maybe the maximum width can be unset or something like that to make these icons appear at the outer edges for consistency?
  • I know that tables have been changed so that on smaller screens the columns show below each other. In the signature this causes parts to be invisble since the height of the signature is still fixed it seems. Until there is a proper solution for tables also for small screens, maybe the height of signatures could be variable in display size, so that it's still fully visible on smaller screens.
Nothing of this is urgent. Please take or discard ideas as you like :) Thank you for making this awesome website and experience!
