2025/26 Stage 3 Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 4

Everything went wrong? No, not quite, but it could've gone a lot better. Axyen had aimed his wand at Ula, and chanted, "Nec Divinos Crepitus!" Unfortunately for the Hufflepuff, the spell would miss almost everybody (though it still managed to thankfully hit Siobhan).

Hey wasn't the blast a bit too close!? "—!?" Axyen felt some of the pain his spell would inflict, and as if to add onto the unpleasantness, he failed to see an incoming Flipendo which slammed into him. Shakily getting back up, he would thankfully evade another Flipendo sent towards him.

His teammate had a similar idea, but Reyna had been unable to hit any of the Gryffindors. They were fast this time around! Eugenia would also find that she had been unable to cast any spells thanks to ANOTHER Mimblewimble (and her Incendio Duo had been evaded), and Axyen could only grimace.

Again!? I don't like where this is going at all! Axyen clenched his wand tighter, he wasn't down, and he refused to give up until he was unable to stand or until Hufflepuff won! Fortunately, as if sensing his will or realizing who his initial target was, the storm above would send a lightning strike directly onto Ula.

"Just keep dueling, just keep going... I will do everything I can to win..." These words were likely inaudible to all except Axyen himself. He just needed to get himself into the mood and continue to push past the pain—regardless of if he got scorched, hit by a knockback jinx, or anything else that came his way!!

• 10% chance that a random spell known by the caster will be cast in addition to the spell that they have already cast. The spell will target the same target the caster had attacked/aided with a spell that round. If the spell cast had no target, then a target is assigned randomly with no consideration of friend or foe. The second spell still has to go through the normal targeting mechanics, it would not be an automatic hit or anything.This effect will not take place if the wand is not drawn.
• In duels the wand only chooses from the list of official duelling spells.

This round it all sucked. Her spell missed, she could not cast yet again and her teammate was hit. Yet again. Couldn’t he dodge? She was limited to very few options and currently, not in a good position. Eugenia was NOT happy. In her mind, she anticipated the other team’s strategy and expected everything that could go wrong. Oh well. Maybe she’d fall in honour. The fire inside her was momentarily doused, turning into cold, hard ice. She didn’t care now, anything was better than nothing. At least she has to try. And at least they hit some hits, even partial, to their opponents.

The match was going well for the lionesses—perhaps a bit too well. Ula managed to land a hit on one of them, her Knockback jinx knocking the wind out of the badger. It all seemed like the trio just might end up unscathed for this one round too…until the storm cloud above their heads rumbled and struck down none other than Ula herself.

She stood there frozen for a minute, her hair spiked and the outfit officially ruined.

"For fucks sake", she cursed out loud, her blood boiling. The ravenette could only hope the Hufflepuffs would end up pulling the short end of the stick from now on.

Sere chose Mimblewimble again as her action selection. She didn't think twice and chose the same target as before. The lioness watched what was happening around her: the Badgers were still trying to cast all those Cracker Jinxes on her team. Would they stop after one of their spells caused blowback? She hoped so.

Speaking of hopes, Sere also hoped the stormcloud above them would disappear on its own, especially after its lightning struck Ula. Well, of course that was very unlikely.

As time ticked away toward the midpoint of the duel, the audience watched several of the duellists closely, anticipating the first fall. Both sides of the stage played their cards to ensure they wouldn't be first, balancing violence and healing, or trying to. Siobhan was momentarily phased, wand still in the air, though it didn't seem to cost her team too dearly.

Ula and Sere were jointly after Axyen, twin Knockback Jinxes from Gryffindor once more seeking brutal impact. Sere missed rather widely, the focus that had just allowed her to pin Eugenia lapsing, but Ula was consistent and brutal, the spell just the forceful push needed to send Axyen tipping past his limits. He had almost saved himself, spinning a bright spell of healing to restore just enough strength to keep chugging. Almost.

The thing was, Axyen was a remarkably unlucky duellist, at least in this moment. As his wand produced his desired healing spell, it also gained a mind of its own. A strike of misguided genius, or perhaps a sharp expression of discontent. A Flipendo arced out alongside the Reparifors, bright blue and curling horribly inward. To cast another spell instantaneously was truly marvellous, but not like this, not when it acted like a backfire and doomed Axyen to be the first one out.

Their moderator was stunned into brief silence. They'd never seen that happen before. But then the obvious caught up -- a player was down -- and they called out, "Pause!" The medics rushed on in the pause to do their work, and Axyen would be just fine. Whether the Hufflepuff team would be in his absence was a different question. The true tide of the match wasn't obvious yet, though Gryffindor had some momentum, now; both Reyna and Eugenia were unharmed. In the chaos of Axyen's wandwork, Reyna had badly missed a Flipendo and Eugenia had felt the tongue-tying wear off, leaving her ready to go for the back half of the duel as the moderator signalled for them to resume.

Aaand disaster had to strike them, as if shedding first blood meant death. In the last two rounds, their advances had been wholly unsuccessful, Reyna missing Ula by a margin and Eugenia being able to do pop nothing but dodge. And Axyen, that idiot, hit himself just after healing himself. Did he have no mind? Eugenia felt very weird and honestly, she felt like she could do nothing. It seemed the fates gave them a semblance of winning, only for them to lose.

For a moment it seemed like everything came to a still. The first badger was down—in a truly surprising turn of events.

Ula stood there frozen, the wand in her hand trembling from the adrenaline of the Knockback jinx she just sent out to the Hufflepuff. And then—a grin stretched across her face, one that could either be described as disturbing or competitive (depends on how you want to look at it). Whatever resided in that teenage girl, was clawing at her insides, wanting to get out. It was hungry. Hungry for more.
