CICTF Anaconda vs. Caiman

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
After breakfast on the twenty-sixth of June, excited Castelobruxo students and their visitors gathered by the Jungle arena. The guests displayed a varied compote of nerves: some were excited, some would boast about their prospects of winning, while others, who had heard about the potentially dangerous terrain, would wish that they had never signed up. Nevertheless, it was too late to back out now, as Headmaster Santiago paved the way through green overgrowth that got progressively thicker the further they ventured from the school grounds, for the first teams to claim their bases and hide their flags. Since South America was experiencing its calendar winter, their guests would find the outside temperature pleasant. Meanwhile, the Castelobruxo students and islanders were used to considerably warmer weather.

Reaching the thickest part of the rainforest you could get without taking a trip to the nearby jungle village, they came to a halt. Santiago lifted his head and squinted towards the overhead canopy. The sky was clear. For now. The people accustomed to living in these conditions knew that the rainforest had a tendency to be unpredictable. Rain might begin to fall without warning, but for now, they seemed to have a dry game day ahead of them. After taking a glance around the groups, he thought it was for the best; it would have been a shame to scare them away before the games had begun.

The teams had been named after different Amazonian animals, which the groups were more or less satisfied with. Predictably, Santiago didn't care if they were satisfied about their assigned animal or not.

Before he sent the teams off in the opposite directions, he clarified some of the rules, hands resting on his hips in a casual stance. “This is it, Anacondas and Caimans." Glancing over the fourth to seventh years, some he knew as students from his own school, though most were unfamiliar to him, he couldn't help but smirk. "Once you’re in there, you’re on your own. If you see something that looks dangerous, my advice is to not stick around long enough to find out. Me and the judges will keep eyes on the bases.”

“What about fouls?” A student asked, to which Santi only shrugged with an indifferent expression.

“That’s up to the rainforests’ discretion.” A twinkle of mischief briefly broke through his otherwise stoic expression as he added, “Remember, there are eyes everywhere.” Not just human eyes.

Uncertain glances were shared by some of the students, causing the more experienced players to chuckle lightly. Even the Headmaster’s lips tugged into an amused smirk, having seen this happen many times before; each instance was just as interesting as the last. It never got old.

“Well, what are we waiting for? To base!” He clapped his hands, sending them off.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Anaconda will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Caiman will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Cecilia Merrick before the posting deadline.

Manu could not have been more excited for this Capture the Flag match. It was truly a perfect end to her seven years at Castelobruxo: a fun-filled few days with some of her mates from other schools (she had been placed in a maloca with @Aly Salinger, her long-time pen pal and good friend, and @Evelynn Decipio, another Hogwarts seventh-year she had grown to like)... and, of course, a competition. No one could ever say the duellist was not competitive, that much was certain.

She came to the area for Capture the Flag with a scan of her enemies and allies, feeling a rush of satisfaction when it became clear that she was one of only a pair of native students on the field. A sixth-year, @Verona Andréas, had been placed on the opposing team - probably for good reason, as it wouldn't have been fair to have a team with two students from the host school against a group without any. Still, she offered a wave across the field to her classmate; though she and Verona hadn't interacted much, he was a nice fellow. "Ready to lose, Andréas?" she shouted, her native tongue flowing from her lips with a playful tone, across the field.

As for her teammates, this was certainly a more varied bunch. She vaguely recognised one redheaded girl (Phylicia) from a Truth or Dare game a few summers back, and a younger girl with dark hair (Kaitlyn) from that odd incident at the Boathouse the previous year, but hadn't exactly spoken with either of them before. A girl from Mahoutokoro, though, she knew at least a little bit more, having met her just in January when they had been slated to room together during the Tenūsa event; Manu nodded to Kanae, a small, friendly smile on her lips. The others, though, were strangers to her, and she pressed her hand to her chest to introduce herself. "I am Manu," the Castelobruxo girl explained, her English having grown much stronger in the last few years. "Pleasure to meet you."

She shrugged, then pointed across the field to the opposing team, a devilish grin forming on her face. "Are you ready to beat them?"

Archer decided this field trip would be a traumatic endeavour. Thrown to the wolves of the upper years once more, he received immediate flashbacks to the duel he had gotten himself involved in, one with the horror of seniors he should never have to witness. Perhaps the universe woke up today and chose hatred onto a boy who was, by all accounts, innocent.

He could still cling onto some remnants of hope amongst the sea of foreign, unfamiliar faces. Lindsey Springhall was one of the rare few he recognised, along with a handful of people he had observed between breaks spent alone with only the company of strangers and a notebook. He was used to it, by this point.

He was also used to being disadvantaged.

Plagued by his mind, frozen in his spot, betrayed by his body -- never had he been the shining duellist or the champion star. Tall and scrawny, pallid in his cheeks, not quite settled into his teenage years, and genuinely with an underwhelming disposition, often he had to use his resourcefulness to make up for himself.

A height as his meant he slipped into the ranks of his older teammates with ease, but skill will be a different issue entirely.

Logan hated to admit it, but she did not think she would have ever been able to survive at Castelobruxo. The school was beautiful, and the grounds were too, but the Seventh year hated the weather. It was winter time, and the weather was not unpleasant at the moment, ut you never knew when it would suddenly be humid and you felt half drowned. Don't even get her started on the number of bugs.

The Hufflepuff felt like she was being thrown to the wolves. She did not know the are and was terrified of getting lost in the jungle and enver finding her way out. Surely the staff would not let that happen, right?

Logan needed to not psyche herself out. If she was going to be any help to her team for Capture the Flag, she needed to be confident and not show fear. "Hello, I am Logan." She introduced herself with a soft smile as she looked at the team around her. She could hear a faint shake to her voice, indicating the nerves running through her, but she would ignore it for now.

The dark haired girl recognized a few of her team mates from previous Hogwarts events or they were Hogwarts students. Don't ask her their names though, she was awful at remembering them and would not get them right. She felt like she was confident in identifying who her teammates were though, not afraid of confusing them with the other team.

Lily had thought that this game would be fun. Once it was over she was going to be leaving Hogwarts and traveling home with Colin McCoire and the family. She had dressed in easy to move clothes, such as jeans and a T-shirt. She was so ready to play this game. She knew a couple people on her team. Ebony Vetra and her were friends, while Guinevere Russetwood had watched a duel that Lily had done with a certain Amethyst Castillo. Lily had vaguely heard of Archer Duncan, but other than that she didn't know anyone else. They had all met the night before to strategize together and decide how they were going with the team. Lily hoped that they would win this. It'd be absolutely awesome to be on a team with only a few people you know and then win the whole thing.
Technically Lily wasn't going to join, but it sounded like fun and she had talked it through with her family. She had to since the Flag competition wasn't at Hogwarts and she'd have to be picked up by Colin's family when the game was over. Lily stretched her limbs as she waited for the game to start. Once the whistle blew, she started to move forward.

It was Capture the Flag time. The Jungle Arena looked awesome and Tone was very excited to see what was in store for them. Ye-jun had wanted to sit this one out, probably because he didn't want to risk accidentally hurting someone in the process. Tone understood this. But at least Ye-jun would be there on the sidelines cheering him on, silently or otherwise. He'd been put into a team, Tone hadn't minded what team, as long as it helped out others, and was curious to know who he was going to be with. The names of the teams were awesome too and Tone was excited to be called Anaconda because it reminded him of Slytherin House from Hogwarts. Snakes were the coolest creatures. He liked them because a lot of people had misunderstandings about them and Tone always liked the underdogs. Team Anaconda would go for the win in this battle game!

He nodded upon hearing Santi warn them about possible dangers out there. Turning to his fellow teammates, Tone smiled at them all. "Hey, guys! Let's have fun out there and win this game!" He said to everyone. Being able to meander around inside a beautiful rainforest sounded like a great time. As long as there weren't any future traumatic incidents that took place like earlier with the vines and monsters. But surely that wouldn't happen again, right? Of course not. Now, it was time to have some fun with people! They were starting in Zone 1 and Tone was happy about that as 1 was the first number. "We're starting in Zone 1, let's end up as number 1 in the end too!" Tone said with a smile. The area they were in now had massive trees that acted as a barricade and was perfect for a base. The ground had lots of tree roots.

It also had vine like structures too. Although the ground was firm, it was not anywhere near stable enough to avoid tripping all the time. Especially if you were going at a fast speed too.

Haven hummed a silly tune as she skipped along, enjoying the cool jungle scenery and looking at all the cool plants. Marcus was having just as much fun, skittering from shoulder to shoulder and squealing at the fluffy plants that looked kinda like him. She was off in her own world, trying not to think about NEWTs or jobs or graduation or any of that silly adult stuff that she was much too stupid for and would have to be thinking about pretty soon. Quite honestly, she probably should have been thinking about it a whole lot sooner, but Haven wasn't all that bright, and really thought things were just going to work out for her. I mean, somehow, she had made it to the seventh year, nearly the end of the seventh year, and they kept letting her pass, for some reason. So she didn't have anything to worry about right now except for her and her pygmy puff having fun and exploring the foreign school.

"Hey, what are you doing over here? You're supposed to be over there!" someone shouted at her. Haven, not being one to question things, shouted out a hasty apology before turning around and heading in the direction they pointed. She figured they were probably a Castelobruxo student and was probably pointing her away from a cliff or something. Falling off a cliff would be pretty bad, she figured, so it was very nice of them to do that.

The jungle was kind of thick with overgrowth here, though... not a lot of paths. Haven kept nearly tripping, and Marcus climbed onto her head and was holding on to her hair for dear life. At one point, she DID trip, and was shocked to bump into...

"Lindsey!" she gushed, giving her duelling buddy a hug. "What are you doing here? Actually, there's a lot of people over here... what am I doing here? Is there something going on?" Either way, Haven was totally prepared to go along with it. She found Marcus a nice, warm, cozy rock to set him down on and gave him a firm pat on the head. "Oh my gosh, are we playing a game? Can Marcus be our mascot??"

Standing within her team’s assigned zone, Kaitlyn took a deep breath in. Then out, after a few moments. While it was currently considered winter in South America, this weather was certainly still pretty good. And, thankfully, not humid! Perfect weather for a competition, in her opinion. To put it quite frankly, however, her participation in magical competitions was pretty limited, unfortunately. She had only joined the Brisk Basilisks - the Slytherin Broom Racing Team - one year ago. As such, she had only raced in three games. Likewise, during the International Magical Olympic Games, she had participated as an ice skater. None of these were similar to Capture the Flag at all.

Even more so, Kait didn’t recall playing Capture the Flag at her previous muggle school. While attending St. Ann’s all-girls Catholic boarding school, they rarely played games like Capture the Flag. Despite that fact, she was well aware that this magical equivalent would be different … especially with the potential spells that could be used (and healing spells … which would hopefully not be needed, and yet it is always good to be prepared).

While she was not familiar with most of her team, Kaitlyn was well aware that a few of her teammates were fellow Hogwarts students. That was always a plus in that regard. A smile formed on her lips as two of the girls started to introduce themselves. A perfect opening. “It’s a pleasure to meet all of you. I’m Kaitlyn,” she glanced around the members of her team. Just like with broom racing, she had to think about what her best course of action was. As a teenage witch, and she was pretty sure she was the youngest on her team for that matter, she needed to decide on some type of action … and fast. It was very likely that she needed quick thinking, just like with flying.

--- ---Guinevere walked out into the arena, mentally berating herself for ever stepping foot in this foreign country... yes, she'd loved every other aspect of it: the scenery, the animals, the environment, the school, the food... she could go on. But as she surveyed the arena and saw many (scary?) older years competing against such an imposing backdrop... she almost considered turning and running away. But eomma did not raise a quitter, so Guinevere put on her big girl pants and got ready to play.
---She had a good draw with teammates, as she saw some familiar faces in Lily and Ebony. The others, she was not so sure about, but had definitely seen them around school, except for a blonde haired boy around the same age. She looked around, maybe trying to telepathically apologize to each of her teammates beforehand in case she was too much of a let down.
---She listened with a growing pit of dread in her stomach as the foreign schools' headmaster began to explain the rules, but also decided just to give it her best shot. If she passed out... well, the healers could deal with that one.

There were a great many things Phylicia Stanwood could be worrying about this close to graduation (how long she needed to stop back at her mother's house before moving out, if she wanted to even try staying with her dad, where she was going to get a job) but instead she'd signed herself up for another international exchange. It wasn't running away from her problems exactly, and she wasn't even that worried about it. Maybe she should be. But she just wasn't going to think about it for a few days, and instead explore a new school and today play some good old-fashioned Capture the Flag. This wasn't Phyllis' first flag-stealing rodeo, but it was her first one in a rainforest, and the trek out here had her watching her feet a lot more than she usually did, then missing the occasional thing hanging at eye level. Broom-racing here had to be on another level.

None of her teammates were from Ilvermorny, but there were a couple familiar faces from over the years (she was blanking hard on names) and getting to know new people was pretty much the best part of these exchanges. She smiled at each teammate, with teeth, eyes bright, doing her absolute best to commit names to memory. Manu, Logan, Kaitlyn. "I'm Phyllis." She'd been considering going by Phyl, recently, since it was even shorter and sounded less like a grandma, but she was still too used to introducing herself with the nickname she'd chosen at seven. "I am so ready to beat them," she agreed; she liked Manu's energy and was more than happy to return it.
