Amethyst felt the taste of happiness on her tongue.

However, it did not last long, as she heard commotion in the dining room.
It was officially dinner time.
And for such a small girl, a rather dreadful realisation dawned upon her – her grandmother would be here any moment.

The young heiress was quick when it came to hiding the evidence of all the sweets she had cherished.
Once done with wiping her mouth with the napkin, she stood up to fill her plate with something green this time, all for show.

She soon spotted her father, and a wide smile spread across her face instantly.
"Look, I picked out my own dinner, and it's all green, Father."
She said proudly, as if she hadn't committed her sweet crimes a few minutes ago on the same plate.
Cyrus smiled fondly in turn, patting her head.
"Go and finish your dinner. We will be a little late escorting the guests," he told his daughter softly.

Amethyst nodded her head as if she were the most obedient child to ever exist.

Satisfied with her father's approval, she returned to the table, careful to not trip over her long dress.
Proper manners were considered essential for a pureblood heiress.
And she had filled her plate a little too much to hide the remnants of sweets.
There was no way she could eat all of it.
So, with her face contorted with distaste, she picked at her food.

Amethyst was so busy with hating her plate that she did not notice when someone sat beside her.

She stopped stabbing her fork in the salad once she noticed a napkin.
I am sorry; I would like to be friends.
Amethyst admired the glittery purple ink. She blinked, her mind processing the apology.
She picked up the napkin, finding a cookie neatly wrapped inside.
Her eyes sparkled.
Before she lifted her eyes, she knew who gave her that.
She still felt deeply hurt, but Amethyst could never deny a cookie.

She turned her head to find Damien sitting right next to her.
She did not know whether she could accept his apology this quickly.
After all, he had nearly moved her to tears.

But the cookie looked ravishing.

Amethyst tried to smile a little, despite the memory of Damien being rude running rampant in her head.
"Well," she started off carefully. "I assume it's alright."
The words came out softer than expected.
After all, he had apologised.
After all, there was a cookie.
A very convincing cookie.

Amethyst stared at it for a moment before she came to a decision.
She split the cookie in half and held out one piece for Damien.

Damien waited nervously to see if Amethyst would accept his apology. He didn’t even know why he had to apologize he didn’t do anything wrong, all he did was express his emotions and the truth that she couldn’t bother someone that didn’t want to be spoken to. Yet here he was feeling horrible and even gave her a cookie with a little note written on a napkin as an apology. The whole notion of this was just ridiculous, he honestly was starting to regret just coming here. He decided to finish his meal while he waited. He hated this silence it was deafening almost like it was killing him but suddenly he looked up at he heard a voice speaking to him.

Damien just looked shocked at he saw Amethyst holding up half a cookie that he had offered with a smile on her face. He just stared at it blankly before gently taking the cookie from her before looking down at his hands. “Thank you..” He mumbled out quietly, it wasn’t just a thank you for the cookie but a thank you for her giving Damien a second chance as he honestly felt relived and glad that he had another chance to try and possibly be a friend to this girl. Damien looked ahead of her and noticed her grandma sitting next to her before he turned back and whispered to her. “I see why you don’t want to be next to hear she seems like a buzz kill” He mumbled softly to her before giving a small cheeky giggle.

Damien’s didn’t know why it was so funny but he felt that he could make light of the situation to have her smile at least.

Amethyst bit into the cookie content with the flavour.
She was rather grateful to Damien for offering her one after she had to eat the bland green food on her plate.
Grateful enough to forgive him for being so rude previously.
The cookie served as a delicious ending to an otherwise horrible meal.

The 7-year-old smiled widely as Damien badmouthed her grandmother.
"Oh! You wouldn't want to cross paths with her," she giggled softly.
She continued, whispering, "She is like Lyssa, the Greek goddess of irritation, rage, fury and madness. I wonder if she prays to her besides goddess Hecate for all the bearing she had acquired."
Amethyst felt jolly, for now she had someone to badmouth her grandmother with.
"That lady is tyrannical!" she said in an animated voice, still careful that no one heard them.

"She makes me study for more than half of a day!" she exclaimed exasperatedly.
"And school has not even started! Moreover, most of the study time is spent on 'manner' training," Amethyst huffed, taking another bite from the cookie.

Her eyes followed Jenalyn. She was still guiding guests and chatting with them.
The old lady had not had a single morsel the whole night. The heiress felt pity for her grandmother and somewhat guilty for deprecating her.

She then noticed someone else, the elder Dragonclaw. "He's your father, isn't he?" Amethyst asked, pointing at him from under the table.
"He does not look any better than my grandmother in terms of demeanour," she commented.

Damien just smiled as the comment he made about Amethyst grandmother seemed to have made her smile and more cheerful so that was always a good sign. He looked at her closely before nodding along with her, she did indeed look like Lyssa. Honestly Damien was impressed Amethyst knew about her as most people truly didn’t know about the goddess or a lot of the minors gods so he truly found it astonishing.

“I uh…I never would have guessed you knew about her.. most people proudly don’t even know she exist so uh..color me impressed ha ha.” He felt awkward admitting that but even he could admit whenever he was surprised by someone. Maybe Amethyst was just a pleasant surprise the fates decided to gift him due to all the hardships he goes through. He just let out a small chuckle at he little mutters about being forced to study all day. He understands that quite a bit and can only imagine that it feels like hell.

His moment of happiness was cut short as his father finally made his way to the table sitting beside his mother. He gave Damien one small and subtle glance that may have seemed small but to Damien it carried so much weight. He just stopped laughing and straighten himself and his posture as his hands gripped into his pant leg trying not to have his body shake. He truly hated when his father gave him that look as it either was a warning or him saying we’ll be having a talk later both Damien hated as even with a warning came a small lecture.

He snapped out of his thoughts as Amethyst was speaking to him. He just subtly nodded as he didn’t want to speak to loudly and his father somehow hear him and start having things to complain about.

He couldn’t help but let out a short little quiet laugh as what Amethyst said. “Your right, he didn’t look much better maybe that’s why him and your grandmother chat a lot.”

Her grey eyes followed Damien's every action and reaction.
The Dragonclaw seemed genuinely surprised by Amethyst's reference to yet another Greek goddess. She did not understand, however, why Damien found it awkward. The Castillo mansion was obviously inspired by ancient Greek architecture. Each column, each corner of the grand house Amethyst lovingly called home, narrated yet another Greek story.

The 7-year-old was about to reply when she noticed the boy beside her straightening up. His body shook, ever so slightly, almost invisibly.
Amethyst had not expected such a reaction out of him. Especially after how vocal he sounded back in the garden. His father was obviously a source of fear, one that he could not avoid. And Amethyst found herself feeling sad and somewhat guilty once again.

While Jenalyn was a tyrant, Amethyst rarely had to feel scared of her. The young girl was not reprimanded, after all, for being too verbal about her dislikes. Amethyst gently touched Damien's shoulder, seeking attention. But his father had already called for him by then, and Damien stood up with a jolt.

Amethyst could not help but feel intimidated herself by the older Dragonclaw. She had mentally added him to her list of people not to interact with. She, however, hoped she could teach her new friend a few tips and tricks to avoid his father. And so she called after him as he walked away from the dining area, "We shall meet again, friend! Let's sit by the river next time!"
To which she received a menacing side-eye from her grandmother.
