Spring 2026 Ravenclaw v. Hufflepuff

Ah, but it could never be as easy as just flying, could it? ... Eh, who was she kidding, Dee didn't want it to be that easy. Easy was boring. Just flying, with her biggest worry being the next tree ahead, was boring. Obstacles never gave her much trouble, barring that one lone tree earlier on along the track, and the ray of sun that had caused the bit of sweat on her back. No, the true fun in racing came from the opposing team. Knocking them off of their brooms, to be precise.

So when Dee noticed that her team's plans to stop Simon at the starting line had gone awry, and she was the only one likely able to do anything about it, she swerved. Literally. Right off her own course and into Simon's. Blatching wasn't her usual weapon of choice - her wand was so much more effective - but she was short on time, and anyway, there was no other Hufflepuff close enough to be a viable target, so blatching worked just as well as a spell.

She probably had surprise at least partially to credit for the resounding success, considering she was considerably smaller and less beefy than her target. That, and the fact that she knew exactly where to aim. Sharp focus was what Simon would see on her face the moment before they collided - if he saw her coming at all, that was. It morphed into a smug smile a moment later when Dee watched him plummet... even though her shoulder ached, and she'd somehow managed to twist her elbow oddly in the crash. Right. That was another reason why magic was preferable. Mad would be proud of her, though.

Barely noticing the spell fizzling at the tip of Simon's wand, Dee turned her broom back around just in time to watch first Kori, then Peri fly past her, and gave both of them a cheerful wave. "Cleared the way for you!" she called blithely. "You're welcome~"

Zephyr almost forgot he's part of the race he was watching due to the chaos ensuing around him. It was terrifying as it was amazing, watching his seniors go at it. He didn't expect how different unofficial games were from the official ones, it was mind blowing and if he's not going to be careful himself, it could happen literally to him. He reminded himself that he didn’t have the luxury to just watch everything unfold. His focus stayed on the path he was meant to take after his teammates went on their own way, at least to those who were left behind at the starting line. He easily pushed through the trees first. His new broom responded to his every action like an extension of his own body, as he was slipping between branches with confidence. His movements were probably not as amazing as his seniors but he was confident in his flying skill by now. He didn't need to be flashy either, he was not even trying to impress anyone. All he could think of was survive this without losing momentum.

While dodging, dipping, rising, going through the right gap with no hesitation in his movements no wasted motion either, it felt just like practice again. He noticed the course changed, the trees thickened which means he's entering a more difficult section of the course. He adjusted his grip on his broom handle as his path became more challenging. The first few gaps went fine but the final section didn't. His timing was not enough it scratched him in the arm, and another scraped along his shoulder. The sensation was felt which told him how close he had been to misjudging the whole thing. Cursing internally, he proceeded with caution especially when he saw the bowtruckles. He almost didn't notice them, it was only a flicker of movement in the periphery. He shifted his broom upward, then a quick forward to escape them and cleared the danger zone. It was too close and too fast to fully register in his mind.

Once he cleared the place, he finally felt it, a dull ache in his arm but it didn't stop him from moving forward. He couldn’t afford to, a wince came out as a protest but forced his focus on the race.

Everything was a blur. The trees, the other racers flying neck and neck with him, all of it blended together in a mesh of colors and shapes in his periphery. Even with a frustrating start at the beginning, things were starting to work for Ravenclaw's favor once again. They would just have to continue to push their momentum further.

The bowtruckles weren't much of a surprise. Heck, they had the kracken in one of the previous races. Would the new obstacle ahead even amount to something as grand as that? He'd find out soon enough. For now, he would weave through the trees once again, keeping himself out of the line of fire as he heard the thumps of his peers colliding with the trunks and branches. Luckily that wasn't him for once.

Korinna hadn't expected to accelerate so quickly, her eyes widening as the obstacles seemed to be rounding nearer and nearer and everything around her became blurry. She couldn't look back for fear of falling off her broom but the sound of sheer chaos behind her and the unhinged older slytherin student's commentary... distracting much? Orpheus would be proud.

She breathed a sigh of relief as she zipped through a narrow passageway, trying to speed through the next few passages as quickly as possible. She instantly regretted it as the air thickened and the heat suddenly became unbearable, trying to get through the passage as fast as she could to avoid being toasted into a human marshmallow.

She was flying alongside Peri and Dee now, laughing as Peri recklessly sped through the clear track with whoops of joy and smiling at Dee's cheerful comment, lifting a hand from her broom to flash her a thumbs up. "Thank you!"

She'd definitely miss them next year.

Korinna turned her attention back to the race as she flew after Peri, her eyes widening in panic as she finally took in the gnarled thorns before her. She hurtled through quickly, breathing a sigh of relief as she made it out unscathed.

With a start, she realized she had taken the lead. Fumbling with her broom, she spared a nervous glance behind her for any signs of the opposing racers before turning her attention back to the track ahead.

The wind whistled in her ears as she flew across the track and into the trees. It tussled her hair and made a few curls escaped the braids she'd done for the race. Hopefully the trees wouldn't grab her right? Those branches looked extra sharp today, just like they knew the racers would come rushing through. Thankfully though as she passed, none of those pointy sticks came close to scratching her or her uniform. She grinned to herself. All that practice was coming in handy. She looked ahead to see her team ahead, especially Dee, Peri, and Korinna. Hopefully one of them would win the race, and they could all have a butterbeer to celebrate!

Ruth’s appreciation towards her senior taking the lead soon fell short as the lad fell from the sky, much to her horror. With AngelFyre and Matilde both scrounging around for their wands, there was an odd sense of vulnerability that was instilled within the badger as she soared towards the narrow passageway, which, blast, nicked her again. What was with her and those damn passageways?
