Figure Skating Soloists Years 1-3
The Lake was still frozen from the wintry Siberian cold as well as yesterday's opening festivities. Now, at midday, however, there was no stage near the icy sheet, but instead a small dais with several seats and a long table in front of them. Score sheets lined the table from edge to edge, and in each of the chairs sat a different headmaster or director from one of the international schools. @Aulis Vorozheykin, as the host of the Games, sat on one end; then down the line came @Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbâtons, @Anthonie Engelbrecht of Uagadou, and finally Durmstrang's @Emery Albrecht.
This event is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games. February 16th, 2026 Lake Bear (frozen), Russian Federation
As for the crowds of cheering students, lots of chairs had been Summoned (or, more likely, Transfigured from shoreline rocks by the Vedma of Transfiguration) and scattered upon the cold shore. Small fires were lit in stone-lined fireplaces in various locations, allowing those who had gathered to watch to stay warm whilst they gazed upon the spectacle.
Oh, for what a spectacle it was! Russia was famous for their Muggle ice skating, and the magical version was no different - if perhaps with a bit more glitz and glamour. Out on the icy expanse, solo and pair skaters were warming up, all dressed to the nines in sparkles and skating outfits galore. How they weren't cold may have been a mystery to Muggles, but of course everyone's outfits had been enchanted to stay warm so that the frigid weather would be no issue for today's athletes. First up was the solo competition, judged in two heats: first through third years starting off, with fourth through seventh years still yet to come. Who would take home the shimmering gold medal sitting encased in glass on the side of the table? Well, we will just have to wait and see...
HOW TO PLAY
There will be two rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.
Each round, you MUST perform a Mundane Action from the Mundane Actions List; you can also perform a Magical Action from the Magical Actions List if you want for potential bonus points. As this thread is for Soloists, your Actions MUST be those that are tagged [Solo] on the Actions List; you cannot perform any [Partner] actions.
Performing the Mundane Action gets a certain number of points if you succeed and no points if you fail. Performing the Magical Action gets you more bonus points if you succeed, but you LOSE points if you fail.
Please include what action you are doing, as well as what level (Single/Double/Triple/Quad), at the bottom of your post. Different levels and different actions have different passing DCs and award different numbers of points!
Also in the first round, please include (in a Reducio underneath your action) the title and artist of the song to which you are skating (this must be a song that we can listen to IN REAL LIFE) as well as an inserted picture (NOT a link to a picture) of your character's skating outfit. Bonus points will be awarded to the Best Music and Best Outfit, as determined by a staff vote.
This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.
Please do not godmod Aulis or any of the other judges.

The lake was beautifully frozen as Tatiana was lacing up her skates. The ice shimmered as she stepped onto the rink, adrenaline, confidence, and fear bubbling up inside her altogether. A long, vast mirror of frozen silver reflected the pale winter sky above them. The cold cut the air clean, biting lines, but she welcomed it—the cold sharpening her senses, forcing her body to listen. Enchanted fires were burning along the rink, throwing in soft golden balls of light inside it, from a distance, the audience was already murmuring, Tatiana half-expected them to already be talking about participants other than their own; typical competition stuff.
She inhaled, soft, but sharp, then pushed forward. Her blades whispered fondly beneath her as they glided across the ice while the dark-haired girl was tracing a wide arc, her posture tall and her shoulders relaxed. Her actions were no rush nor pressure, her glides were soft and steady, and her arms formed graceful curves as she spun once, twice, then three times, already basking in the cold air as though the competition already started. But to the girl, this was simply just a warm-up.
Koldovstoretz was as beautiful as she had imagined it to be, though the hills were now covered with snow that seemed like white fluffy blankets, the whole place still was breathtaking. There were a few forests that surrounded the school, she knew, but now they were littered with white spots, and the village itself was quite grand. She wondered often what the whole place would be like if it was spring of summer—perhaps the hills were abundant with flowers, or that the forests were homes to critters that were now hibernating for the winter.
Then, her song started; and all her thoughts about Koldovstoretz quickly faded as her pride began or eat her whole. The world narrowed to the curve of the ice, the rhythm of the music, and the controlled burn of her muscles. She let the cold guide her movements, allowing them to fade gracefully with her turns and jumps. Her pace was steady, settling into something she knew that she could maintain.
As she was beginning to gain more speed, she performed a jump, together with a murmur, “Nix Facitur”, a spell that would hopefully make the turn more extravagant, if she could perform it well. Her confidence, ego, and pride all depended on this competition, if she fell here, so would her reputation.

Kaitlyn let out a quiet sigh as her blue eyes danced around the crowd for this event. Figure skating. Honestly, it didn’t seem too different than the dancing that she was accustomed to, hence why she decided to compete in the sport. Hopefully, Hogwarts could earn many medals from the various students participating in the events. But, for now, she needed to worry about herself … and just what it was that she was going to perform. After all, she wanted to do her best. Sure, she wasn’t exactly a figure skating pro, but that wasn’t about to stop her from trying. Certainly not!
A long breath in … a long breath out. Having been a broom racer for the Slytherin team, Kaitlyn has already competed in activities. However, this would be the first time she was competing alone. Yet, she wouldn’t dwell on such a prospect. Alone or not, she needed to try her best … just pretend like she was dancing. To be fair, it wouldn’t be that far off … just on ice!
A smile danced on her lips as she heard the song she requested start to play. The young teenager skated out on the ice and began her routine. Her wand was safely in her hand, as she began. This was going to be an experience … and hopefully a good experience, at that! Her options rolled through her mind ... both magical and nonmagical. Each option provided temptation.

Although Livia had not been trained extensively in the art that was figure skating, she had been trained in the specifics of dance, and she had, of course, skated, as many children had. Of particular note to her were the intricacies shared between the art of skating and that of dance; while the techniques were vastly different, Livia had no doubt that she would be able to perform decently, as long as she utilised those skills she had learnt previously. Deftness and agility would aid her here.
Being in Russia again after so long had been surprising at first, especially as Livia's visits had all been confined to the western portion of the country. However, the ease with which she could utilise a tongue other than English brought her great pleasure and comfort, and she found that, as she readied herself for the ice, nervousness did not plague her like icy needles pricking her heart. Rather, she was almost excited. She would not call it that for fear of it impeding her performance, but surely, she would find pleasure in dancing to the music she had grown up with on ice.
The song she had picked was quite famous, so even those who knew very little about Russian culture would be able to recognise it. Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act 1: № 2, March. She had even procured a Nutcracker from her family, having written to her grandfather and having informed him of her intentions to compete at the International Magical Olympic Games. His gift, and his affectionate response, had only solidified the girl's desire to perform well.
She waited until she heard the renowned introduction to the piece she had specified, and she began to move onto the ice. As quickly as she could, she would slide the Nutcracker out in front of her, letting him gain traction on the ice. Then, she would quickly wave her wand and utter the incantation, 'Nix Facitur.' After all, with any good performance, it was important to set the stage, to let it be known what type of world the audience was entering. In tune with the music's staccatos, she would skate, and then hesitate and spin, and then repeat the actions. As the music grew more fluid, she would prepare one leg for momentum, and then swing herself upwards, attempting a quick spin precisely timed to the music.

| ___ | ![]() 16/02/2026, Koldovstoretz Growing up with ice skating as a hobby and competing in a major international figure skating event were too distinctly different things. The first consisted mainly of weekend trips to ice skating rinks, or, sometimes, when the weather allowed it, skidding around on an enchanted ice surface in the backyard. The latter implied a table of judges, scores and evaluations, on top of mastering highly technical moves. Miss Elisa Wagner was comfortable on ice, no doubt, but to state that she would be ready for competition was too far a stretch. She had never executed more than a single rotation in jumps, and two turns were enough to make her dizzy. Nonetheless, all her childhood skating proved useful as they provided a solid foundation she could build on. Not a single day of training was wasted in the few months that preceeded the International Magical Olympic Games. The hour of 'figure skating training' was added to her daily schedule. She worked with precision, insisted perfection in every move; the basics were relearnt, every term memorised; scoring mecanisms were digested, and choreography expectations mastered. She would do her best to find ice to work on, but when none was available she settled with working on steps, strength and balance in an empty space. By the time she was packing for Koldovstoretz, her ice skating skills were nothing like they used to be. Admitted, she was still no match for any professional, but for an amateur competition, she might just stand a chance. No matter how well Elisa had prepared herself, however, her nerves were eating her up whole. There she stood on the edge of the rink, trembling despite the warmth radiating from her enchanted costume. She had spent far more time than she would ever admit in front of the mirror that morning, taming her hair into a neat twist at the base of her neck, dabbing on makeup with a shaky and inexperienced hand and making sure her reflection was flawless – or at least, as flawless as she could get it to be. She grew more and more anxious as each skater went by. When her turn came, she wondered for a moment if she would be allowed to quit. But then all those weeks of prepartion came back to her and she realised it would only be cowardly to step away now. The young girl could feel the hundreds of eyes trained on her as she skated to the center of the rink. Her heart was hammering so loudly in her chest she was sure the crowd could see its rapid beats. If her music hadn't started right then, she was sure her legs would have given out. The arpeggios gave her brain something to hold on to as her body worked from muscle memory. She glided across the ice, steady and poised, following the graceful rythm of the music as she danced along, displaying for the first time the wide array of skills she had worked so hard to earn. word count: 502/200

Casey checked himself out in the mirror one more time. He never doubted his mother's sewing in the fourteen years he'd been alive on the earth, but never had he looked so extravagant before. In an ice skating costume no less. Casey had a list of "firsts" going on in his life the past year; Scooby-Doo investigation into his missing brother, said brother now a werewolf, contending with a good friend overseas getting caught up in a love feud with another werewolf-- Just werewolf after werewolf!
A circus nerd by nature, Casey figured this ice skating shindig was a perfect excuse to forget about this werewolf crap for just one day. He couldn't bring balls, clubs or yo-yos to the rink, but he did know how to perform. Even if at a basic casual level.
He had to thank Emily for humouring his request to find many variations of "Ice Skating for Dummies" for him to read. He wasn't a gymnast or contortionist by nature, so flexibility was a right laugh trying to train for, but the actual tricks he managed to catch on pretty quickly. Whether or not it paid off would be reflective in his performance today.
Pfft.
That wasn't why Casey was doing this. Points be damned, he just needed a break from everything. On a stage, in any way shape or form, was one's haven from the rest of the outside world.
And by the time Casey's name was called to take the spotlight for the next five minutes, he hurried to the rink on his skates. Five minutes was a drop in the ocean for the amount of time he wished he had to himself but goddamn, he'd take it. Five minutes was better than being reminded of the werewolf business that he was still struggling to wrap his head around every other waking minute of his existence.
The crowd settled and he spotted a couple of familiar faces, both from his school and from others. He acknowledged them silently, offering a subtle wink to whatever direction he found them in the sea of seats.
The music he picked out for his performance began to fill the silence. Seconds into the track with his wand at the ready and he was in his element.

Emiline felt the nerves bubbling up inside her, her first proper competition on ice. She had been going to ice-rinks since she could walk with her mum, every single Christmas season. She was glad she had her own skates for this event as she knew she would be thrown off if she would have to use new shoes or not being worn into. The worst feeling ever.
She focused back onto the ice, the flickering flames around it and the chatting of the audience. Her blue leotard sparkles in the light, reflecting off the many gems on her hair, legs and body. It made her nerves fade but only ever so slightly. The projected voice echoed across the ice and reminded Emiline that soon she'd be skating on the very ice infront of her. She tried telling herself she wasn't nervous, the good-old reverse psychology but today it wasn't working. Maybe it was because it was a competition or the olympics or maybe it was because she was somewhere new, but she was definitely nervous. The pressure she'd feel on the ice? Gulp.
Then her name was called out with her school name in tow. She took a deep breath and stepped out onto the ice, it felt like a knife on butter. Smooth. She could easily feel the cold from the ice making her hair on her legs stand up on end, but she needed to focus. Her muscles are ready to go after her warm-up and only keep cooling down the more she waits. Once in the middle, she looks up and smiles, ready as she'll ever be to perform.
Then the first few beats of her song played and she glided off to the left in the gentle rhythm, with the shift of balance; left and right, left and right. Her mind clears from all her worries, fears and pressure. She let her music guide her. Each glide of her skates feels free and weightless. She needed to make sure this performance counted, as she could only do it once.

| _ | While figure skating wasn't something Samantha was widely familiar with, she did follow a few ballet classes over the years in accordance with her grandmother's wishes. Sadly, that didn't help much, as her legs and hips turned out bruised after countless of falls during the last few months of rigorous practice sessions. Yet, every time she fell, she got up again and continued training until she could complete the move she wanted without losing her balance. She was fortunate to be trained by an excellent coach for a good few months. It turned out her grandmother knew someone who in turn knew someone who coached "some of the best figure skaters in the world", as her grandmother put it. It turns out Maryvonne's endless social gatherings and events were useful for something after all, although Samantha would never admit that out loud. Her personal trainer, Sonya, had drilled every single move into her head until she barely made any mistakes anymore near the end of the training period. But now, as it was finally her turn to go onto the ice, she felt her palms begin to get clammy and her knees wobble at the sight of the crowd. Maybe a partner would have made this easier, but then again, Samantha wasn't exactly a team player. An ineptitude the young girl was well aware and frequently reminded of. Even though Samantha deeply craved to end up on the top step, she wasn't a performer at heart. She had always liked working behind the scenes, not wanting to be in the spotlight. One of the many reasons she preferred to simply write plays in her free time instead of spending it on stage. However, once the word got out to her family that she had the chance to compete in the International Magical Olympic Games (her own fault for mentioning it), her grandmother wouldn't have it any other way than see Samantha competing in one of the sports, preferably figure skating. That was how the Ravenclaw girl found herself signing up for the Games, in the hopes of giving her family something to be proud of. She took a deep breath before taking off her guards and gliding onto the ice, eventually moving into her starting position. She crossed her left leg behind her right as she stretched out her right arm. She tilted her head to lay on top of her arm and held her left hand next to her right cheek. It almost looked as if she was sleeping. As the sharp tones of the flute entered her ears, she started skating. Her routine began calm and slow. She swiftly moved forward, flicking her wand in the process and whispered a soft, "Nix Facitur." She quickly continued as the music started to swell. She knew she had to land the upcoming triple axel to get at least some of the points she needed to get a chance at winning. She steadied her breath before gaining some speed to attempt the jump. Samantha wouldn't call herself adventurous, usually wanting to be safe rather than sorry, but her strong desire for gold drove her to take risks she normally wouldn't and this jump was one of them. |

"Oh, it's evil, babe / The way you let your grace enrapture me."
It had been some time since Valour fell into the reprieve of figure skating. She took gracefully to the art of dance, but always felt somewhat like a beached whale, frustrated by the limitations of dry land. To glide upon ice, drifting away like the tide, felt inexplicably right. From skating hand in hand with her parents as a child, to glimmering across the rink alone, skating was once but a hobby to the young heir. It was as her artistic obsessions grew and her desire to perfect the arts infected her mind when they realised their skill was a gold mine. Valour haunted the ice-rink day and night, a fixation that came second only to her violin. All of that blood and sweat boiled down to one fateful day, when they missed the landing of a jump. Everyone in the hall remembered the crack. The blood and the tears.
And now, the decorated artist was back on the ice. Like a prophet walking on water, Valour found her place before the judges. She came to win - naturally - but there were personal stakes at hand. These people did not matter. Valour bowed deeply, arms outstretched by her sides, before rising once more to face the sight before her. Pale, unfamiliar faces of their spectators, curious eyes studying every inch of them. Their poise, their costume, and each hair out of place. They simply lifted their chin up higher, a bitter dying dream lingering in their chest.
The piano began with a perfect abruptness. Sharp dissonant chords and a crooning voice permeating the air as the witch cracked into position with rehearsed precision. Fiona Apple was an unusual choice, but one they hoped would be memorable. They paid no reverence to meaningless traditions and uninspiring classical pieces. Not when it came to craftsmanship like dance. Their movements stretched out from their chest and towards the sky, brooding, angular and unorthodox. Her expressions were a housefire of emotion, scowling out to their anticipating audience with an intense stare. As though each movement was a motif on manuscript paper, her skates cut deep, jagged scores across the plains before them as they swayed and preened. The lyrics murmured a tragic, possessive story, and Valour did all they possibly could to grip and strangle their onlookers with their sheer elegance. Wand in hand, she whispered an incantation that would hopefully fall upon deaf ears but cause quite the shock. "Periculum."
As the song started to crescendo, Valour sucked in a deep breath and cleared their mind. Despite their wild and unruly dancing, the inner workings of their brain could not have been more still. The jump that had ended it all. A triple axel should be child’s play for someone competing in the International Magical Olympic Games, and yet, the taste of bile in their mouth said otherwise. Nevertheless, she continued to push it down and keep praying, arms tucked into her chest as she felt her blades grace the air.
"When well you know I'd be insane / To ever let that dirty game recapture me."
