Bobsledding Years 1-3
The final day of the International Magical Olympic Games events had arrived, and with it, an event that had been weighing heavily on the minds of its competitors for days. Bobsledding, a similar sport to broom racing, would not be easy to win. Now, in the late morning of this last day of events, they had gathered to race the course set up for them by the judges. Over the mountains and through the snow, to the finish line we go...
This event is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games. February 20th, 2026 Lake Bear (frozen), Russian Federation
Speaking of the judges, the four of them had scattered themselves throughout the course, ready to act as referees and be on the lookout for any unsportsmanlike conduct or injured players. @Aulis Vorozheykin, the host of the Games, had personally designed the course and was more than ready to watch students flounder upon it. His fellow panel of judges was made up by @Lawrence Maynard from Tenūsa, @Catalina de la Torre of Castelobruxo, and finally Hogwarts' own @Solomon Lear. Any cheaters-to-be had better watch out.

FINISH LINEHOW TO PLAY
There will be three rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats and abilities in your post (NO broom stats; you are not riding brooms).
Each round, you must perform an action from the Broom Racing System. However, please note that you and your partner cannot travel different distances as you are essentially riding a Two-Headed Dragon. Anything that involves movement of the broom - e.g. Flying, Blatching, etc. - must be performed by BOTH RACERS. Individual actions such as throwing projectiles, casting spells, etc. can be done individually (so each partner can use a different one, so long as the broom is flying the same amount as their partner). You cannot post for your partner - each partner must post individually in the thread each round.
Bobsleds can go a max of six units per round if sledding at full speed.
Also, you cannot perform the following actions: Save, Return to Broom, Parkin's Pincer, or Help Ally with Obstacle.
Partners' stats will be averaged for anything that requires both of them (e.g. Blatching, Flying, dodging).
All other standard broom racing rules apply, and whoever crosses the finish line first wins. Even if there is only one player left on the bobsled when the finish line is crossed, that team is considered to have won and the player who fell off will still be granted the gold medal. If no one crosses the finish line by the end of the three rounds, the first, second, and third furthest teams will be the medalists.
At least one member of the pair must owl the entire teams' action list to Aulis Vorozheykin before the posting deadline.
This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.
Please do not godmod Aulis or any of the other judges.

Bobsledding Years 1-3

She wanted to believe this was more normal, but bobsleigh was a muggle sport most people did not have access to. So, she still felt that uncertainty she experience in almost everything. Still, being very clearly on the ground instead of up in the air was somewhat comforting. If they crashed, it really couldn't be that bad, could it?
Whatever happened, she had a partner for this: the chatty girl from the hall whose French was as bad as her English. That made Marina, or 'Rina' as she liked to be known, strangely relatable. Plus, she was a new addition to the Quidditch team so she was going to need to get to know her and how to work with her sooner or later. This seemed as good a place as any to begin.
As she arrived on the course, she took a moment to squint and look out ahead. "What a road," she muttered as the course extended well into the distance. In her mind, it was a road, just like the all the streets her father drove on. In that moment, as she reached for a helmet, it occurred to her that they had not actually discussed the order who'd be in front or behind. "Do you want to drive? I do not mind. I will try not to—eh, what is the word?—backseat you," she queried wondering exactly how similar this would be to her father's taxi. Perhaps not at all. But that was all she had to go on.

The level of energy Rina brought to the bobsledding event would make it seem like she had chugged three energy drinks and downed two shots of espresso with a lot of sugar. She was practically bouncing when she met up with Akerrah on the course, all excitement and bright-eyed smiles. Actually doing a competitive sport lessened her aversion to the cold (seriously, why was it so snowy and icy!?) and made her far more willing to zoom about on the frigid ground.
She blinked at Akerrah, confused, when the older girl uttered a sentence. 'Huh?' she mumbled, using one hand to push her bangs underneath a headband. She then re-adjusted her mittens. Brr. Only then did she register something about a road. She knew that word! 'Oh. Yeah.'
Rina made a face when she saw Akerrah reaching for a helmet. On one hand, wearing a helmet was lame and Rina was not lame. But on the other hand, Akerrah probably had the right idea. What was more un-cool than wearing a helmet was being dead due to not wearing one. Reluctantly, Rina reached for one and shoved her head into it, frowning at how it pressed against her hair.
The thing about communicating in English was that it took Rina 10 times longer to actually figure out what words were being said, and then even longer to actually understand maybe 25% of it. French was somewhat easier because some of it kind of made sense like Spanish. 'Drive? Er...' Rina stared ahead of her, finally putting two and two together to get four. 'Oh, yeah! I can drive! I am good at drive.' Well, she could drive a Vespa, kind of, if that counted for anything. 'Back seat' kind of made sense, too. Sit in the back. She had to unpack it a bit before she fully got it. But Akerrah said she would try not to sit in the back? Rina opened her mouth, about to ask where Akerrah would sit instead, but then she realised she probably just misunderstood the English because English was hard. 'Pues well, 'ere we go.'

The waiting is finally over for the Bobsledding competition and it will happen on the final day of the Olympics games. Zephyr woke up early due to anxiousness. He told himself it was just another event and just another competition, but that didn’t really work. This was not just any game, it was the last one of the entire Games. He got dressed earlier since he didn’t like sitting around with nothing to do. The waiting made everything worse. Outside, the air was freezing, but he welcomed it. The cold helped him focus. He decided to do some warm up exercises and went for a short jog just enough to feel his heart working. He didn’t want to waste energy but he wanted....no he needed his body awake.
He was familiar with bobsledding in the muggle world but that didn't mean he rode one before. The closest he got to that was a wooden go kart he and Rosalyn used when they were younger. There was this go kart race in their neighboring farm that they both joined as a child and they won second place. It was a fun and a nice experience and now, they're about to experience something new, here in the wizarding world and he got to do it with his childhood best friend. He was glad he was sharing this with her.
Arriving at the event with Rosalyn, Zephyr looked out into the race track as far as his eyes can see and whistled softly. "Well, this is going to be interesting. Look at that track." He glanced at Rosalyn and motioned toward the path they're going to take. "Are you ready for this?" He grabbed two helmets and gave her the other one. Once he put his in place, he also wore his gloves. He didn't want his hands to turn cold while he's driving, that would certainly affect their performance. He was also dressed appropriately for the cold. "Let's do this...after you..." He nodded toward their mode of transport and followed her right after, securing himself in place. Once seated, he checked all protective gear and looked behind him and sent her a thumbs up, "All set there?" It's just to make sure everything's okay before the start of the game. You'll never know. Turning his attention back to the front, he gripped the string tightly. Here we go...

Bobsledding Years 1-3
Matilde was incredibly excited about the International Magical Olympic Games, and especially bobsledding. She had never seen much of the Muggle Olympics, but she was exceedingly curious about the whole ordeal. As soon as she heard about bobsledding and its similarities with broom racing, she knew she had to try it.
Phelan was perhaps not the most obvious choice as her partner. He refused to go near a broom, and the few times that he had watched Matilde race, his face always turned a stony shade. But Matilde wanted to do this with her best friend. Besides, the scariest part of broom racing was flying. Despite her confidence in her powers of persuasion, Matilde had been pleasantly surprised when he had said yes. Part of her had wanted to try ice skating, as it was something new. But that had gotten a firm "not a chance" from Phelan.
She met her friend by Lake Bear, all decked out in her warmest wool sweater, scarf, and mittens, with a heavy jacket zipped to her chin. Russia certainly was cold. He was already there, that nervous expression on his face. Matilde nudged him in the shoulder. "This is going to be so fun." He mumbled something in reply.
All the players lined up at the start. "I'll take the front," Matilde suggested, though she was sure Phelan wouldn't argue. They took their positions, and away they went.

Bobsledding Years 1-3
Throughout Phelan's friendship with Matilde, he had repeatedly been thrust into scenarios where he ended up asking himself, why did I let her talk me into this? The bobsledding race was one of those situations.
Phelan despised heights. He couldn't stand Quidditch. Even without the problem of flying, he found the game boring and pointless. Broom racing was slightly more interesting, but every time he watched Matilde race, he felt like he was going to be sick.
Despite his misgivings, Phelan eventually gave in to Matilde's begging. So here he was, standing beside the lake waiting for his friend, sucked into one of her plots yet again. On her part, Matilde looked absolutely thrilled. This made him smile just a little. "I hope you know what you're doing," He said nervously. It came out a little quiet, and he wasn't sure she heard him. She was the captain of broom racing at Hogwarts. She should know what she was doing. Even so, Matilde was known to be a little... reckless. Though her seemingly reckless behavior was almost always based on intuition, ensuring their escapades usually ended well.
Phelan did not protest when Matilde nominated herself as the driver of their sled. He got in behind her and braced himself for the coming journey.

@Zephyr DeakinIMOG Bobsledding"Brrrrr!" Rosalyn said, rubbing her arms to try and keep herself warm. She got really cold really easily, and she knew that it was not the right time for this!
"Sooo, who's excited? I am!" she said to Zephyr, noticing then that he was very focused and she probably should be too. Alas, no time for joking around, they have a competition to...well...compete in!
"Yeah, the track looks difficult. But we've got this!" she said, responding to his observations. She was internally pretty nervous-she was clumsy enough as it is, now she was getting on a bobsled to zoom down a track that was designed to mess them up? She knew though that everything would be okay. She and Zephyr had known each other for years, and as long as they just tried their best, then everything would be just fine.
"Of course I am!" she said once he asked if she was ready. She was born ready! Or, well, I suppose not, as shoving an infant into here would probably not be good...okay, maybe not born ready, but close enough!
"Thanks!" she said, putting on the helmet Windy handed her. If something unfortunate were to end up happening, at least they would be prepared!
"Why thank you, kind sir." she said, giving him a little curtsy before hopping in. What, if chivalry wasn't dead, then neither were fancy responses to it!
"Yep! Ready to go!" she said, making sure that she was all good and settled in. This was a pretty huge moment, so she really needed to be prepared, and she was! She hoped he was too, because this was happening no matter what!Stats-

Bobsledding Years 1-3
I actually had pretty much no idea what bob-sledding was. All I knew was that it was a muggle sport, where you had to throw yourself down a hill, on a wooden board.
I fidgeted with the cuffs of my jumper. Well, it wasn't actually mine. I had found it in a pile of clothes that used to belong to my mum, and, hoping it possessed some good luck, packed it to bring it on the trip.
I saw two girls from Beauxbatons had paired up, so I waved and said, "Bonjour". Although I hoped that my pair would win, if we didn't I hoped those two would, so that Beauxbatons could take home the win, and people that I knew. There were only four pairs taking part, so there was an extremely high chance of coming first, however, I knew that I couldn't get complacent.
I turned to my partner - a boy from Uagadou, the African school. I knew that some places in Africa spoke French, but I didn't actually know where the boy was from, so I decided to speak English, just in case, as it was a more universal language.
"Hi! Are you ready?"
I sat on the back of the bobsled, clenching my wand in my fist. I put on the helmet, and waited to be told to go.

Only Koné and Alacrán decided to play on the offence side of things. Alacrán's attempt at throwing an improvised projectile at Emile missed with quite a long distance between it and its intended target - perhaps his horrible demeanour at work? As for Koné, was her wand working? She couldn't seem to cast the Wand-Lighting Charm properly.Hostile Actions
Unfortunately, Wolde didn't seem to be here yet, leaving his partner Blaze abandoned at the start line. If he didn't show up the next round, she would just have to pack up and try to complete the course herself, though it would be significantly harder. Hopefully he would show soon.Movement Attempts
Having halved their speed, Koné and Alacrán took a pause just past the thick copse of pine trees, looking about the same as when they had entered the mini-forest. These two Seeresses sure could dodge some branches!
It was Deakin and Willows battling it out for the lead with Emile and O'Fionnagan. The two pairs had no issues with the chizpurfles, as none of the quartet of students wanted to cast a spell and set them off. They managed to make it just to the edge of the snowstorm up ahead before both pausing, with no issues created from the gently falling snowflakes. But were those... snowballs being pelted by onlookers up ahead?
Outcome
Marina's attempt at a projectile automatically misses because Phelan is too scary.
Akerrah's Lumos is UNSUCCESSFUL (updated). She cannot cast Lumos for the rest of the race.
Everyone who is moving passes the trees with no issue.
Everyone who gets to the snow is in the easy part with no issue.
Ending positions are shown below with colours & initials.

Some notes:
- You all get +3 to all stats, basically like a Silver Arrow, from your sleds to help with the obstacles. No, these do not count towards the overall player averages, nor does it count towards your health count.
- Your sleds come equipped with a compass. You don't need to worry about stating that you have one.
- Player stats are averaged for everything you do together, like flying, dodging obstacles, blatching, etc. Only for casting spells, etc. would it be considered separate.
- I have a renewed respect for the broom racing captains and moderators.
