The Lake was still frozen from the wintry Siberian cold as well as yesterday's opening festivities. Now at midday, however, there was no stage near the icy sheet, but instead a small dais with several seats and a long table in front of them. Score sheets lined the table from edge to edge, and in each of the chairs sat a different headmaster or director from one of the international schools. @Aulis Vorozheykin, as the host of the Games, sat on one end; then down the line came @Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbâtons, @Anthonie Engelbrecht of Uagadou, and finally Durmstrang's @Emery Albrecht.

As for the crowds of cheering students, lots of chairs had been Summoned (or, more likely, Transfigured from shoreline rocks by the Vedma of Transfiguration) and scattered upon the cold shore. Small fires were lit in stone-lined fireplaces in various locations, allowing those who had gathered to watch to stay warm whilst they gazed upon the spectacle.

Oh, for what a spectacle it was! Russia was famous for their Muggle ice skating, and the magical version was no different - if perhaps with a bit more glitz and glamour. Out on the icy expanse, solo skaters had just finished their programs and the pair skaters were warming up, all dressed to the nines in sparkles and skating outfits galore. How they weren't cold may have been a mystery to Muggles, but of course everyone's outfits had been enchanted to stay warm so that the frigid weather would be no issue for today's athletes. The solo competition had just finished, so now it was time for the pairs, which would be judged in two heats: first through third years starting off, with fourth through seventh years still yet to come. Who would take home the two shimmering gold medals sitting encased in glass on the side of the table? Well, we will just have to wait and see...

HOW TO PLAY
There will be two rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

Each round, you MUST perform a Mundane Action from the Mundane Actions List; you can also perform a Magical Action from the Magical Actions List if you want for potential bonus points. As this thread is for Partners, your Actions can either be those that are tagged [Solo] or [Partner] on the actions list.

If you choose to do [Solo] actions, you can either do different actions to gain different amount of points or you can choose to do the same [Solo] action and have an extra WIS roll added for synchronization, which is hard to achieve but can reward bonus points.

If you choose to do a [Partner] action, you must do the same partner action as your partner. These are harder, but provide more points!

Performing the Mundane Action gets a certain number of points if you succeed and no points if you fail. Performing the Magical Action gets you more bonus points if you succeed, but you LOSE points if you fail.

Please include what action you are doing, as well as what level (Single/Double/Triple/Quad), at the bottom of your post. Different levels and different actions have different passing DCs and award different numbers of points! You cannot post an action for your partner - each partner must post individually in the thread each round.

Also in the first round, please include (in a Reducio underneath your action) the title and artist of the song to which you are skating (this must be a song that we can listen to IN REAL LIFE) as well as a picture (NOT a link to a picture) of your characters' skating outfits. Bonus points will be awarded to the Best Music and Best Outfit, as determined by a staff vote.

This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.

Donning a stunning dark red, tight skating outfit, Leo checked his skates one last time as he waited for Rosaline and his turn to skate. They had watched a couple of other partner skaters, all of whom did really well. But he wasn’t going to let it psych him out. They had prepared very well for a while now and they had great outfits and a fun song to skate to. The pair was definitely ready and hopefully they would accomplish what they wanted to on the ice together. Leo knew that some other friends were taking to the ice today too so while he wished them luck he also had his own inner competitiveness coming out and wanted to beat them. The bragging rights were going to be epic for whoever in their friend group got the best score in the end.

As their turn came up, Leo stepped out on the ice and skated to the middle, taking his starting position beside Rosa. Wrapping one arm around her back, they stood close as he looked at her and waited for the music to start. When the music began they took off and began their routine. Going through choreography sequences together they were coming up to their big lift move. Leo had been nervous performing this at first since he didn’t want to end up dropping her in the real show. But they had practiced it a lot and he was determined to do it. He placed his hands on her waist as she had come closer, and prepared to lift her in the air. This was something he never thought he would be doing in his first year as a wizarding student but here he was, participating in an ice skating event at one of the other wizarding schools with one of his closest friends. He couldn’t let her down now.

Prepared—that’s what Camille felt when the previous partners received their applause and stepped off the ice. Exuding a cool confidence beyond his experience in figure skating, Camille rose from his seat, gesturing for Cecilia to enter the ice first. He watched her from behind, briefly admiring the light reflecting on the beads of her green dress. The color coordination had been his suggestion, of course; green had been the obvious choice to complement the red tones of her hair. The purpose was not only to skate their routine with flying marks, but to look prestigious. Costumes were half of the performance. His own costume was much less flashy, though he wore the black trousers on like a second skin, blending seamlessly in with the expensive, black skates he’d bought for the occasion, while the balloon sleeves added a touch of dramatic flair.

After her, he placed a skate onto the slippery surface, feeling a surprising familiarity from months of rehearsal, even though he had started from nothing. Of course, his background played its part. Having spent years by the barre, he imagined he had a great advantage over the other amateurs. No one of exceptional talent would waste their time here, he reckoned; they would surely be at a more prestigious competition.

From the first time the fox approached him about partnering, to stepping into figure skates for the very first time, to their final rehearsal just yesterday, Camille had done everything meticulously to ensure success. Regardless of his personal feelings about his partner, he’d committed with the sole intention of winning. During winter break, alongside his usual rigorous ballet training, he had enlisted a professional figure skater to hammer him into form, day after day, returning home with fresh bruises marking his legs. Balance and edge-work came easily, with his previous experience in ballet. Within a month of hard commitment, he’d landed his first singles, more or less clean. Considering his level, it came to a good enough point that they could proceed to partnering, somewhat safely. What came after was vigorous partnering exercises, to prepare for the lifts, offering a practice in endurance as well as patience. Merlin knew how much he was in need of it, dealing with Cecilia Merrick on the regular.

Gliding into the starting position, Cecilia gently rested her head on his shoulder, and Camille’s face angled down at her with a tender expression, waiting for the music to begin playing. The intimacy they portrayed was a careful façade, convincing for anyone who hadn’t seen the two of them bickering constantly for the last few months, concealing the contempt that had been brewing behind the scenes. For this competition, they opted for a romantic theme, a complete opposite from their dynamic off the ice.

Still maintaining a smile for the public, he muttered for her ears only, “If we lose, I’m blaming it all on you.”

After all the work he’d put into this, Camille refused to assign himself any responsibility. There was no way in hell any mistakes or wrongdoings could be blamed on him. Depending on the scores, he’d be willing to blame the judges for unfair judgement, otherwise, there were plenty of directions incompetence hailed from. Any snide, or threatening remarks from Cecilia would be child’s play, which Camille had learned to mostly ignore for the sake of progress.

As the music began, they started their routine by holding hands and chasséing forward toward the audience. Coming to a graceful halt, Camille discreetly drew his wand and waved it in the air above. “Nix Facitur,” he whispered, intending to make the arena snow as they skated.

Without waiting to see if it succeeded or not, thinking the spell was the least of his troubles, knowing what was about to come, their routine continued. Turning in the opposite direction, Camille wrapped an arm around her waist, guiding her beside him as they glided backward in a sweeping arch. Using the full extent of his turnout, he parted his feet and bent into a spread eagle. One arm extended into the air, where his gaze followed. Meanwhile the other arm was holding on to Cecilia's waist to keep her close. They were so close he felt her heat radiating off of her, onto him, even in the cold wind. At the speed they were skating, the outside temperature quickly became negligible. So far, he felt like he had everything under control. However, the further they got into the routine, the more he felt his nerves spike for the upcoming lift. Forcing his focus onto the performance, he guided her through a partnered spin, his hand brushing gently along the side of her face. Attentive to where he had his own gaze, Camille watched Cecilia who rested on his knee. Like this, when she wasn't giving him an attitude, he thought she was quite beautiful, a detail he noted but didn't linger on.

After a few more seconds of simple spins and dancing across the ice, it was time for the lift. Facing backward, Camille placed one hand under her armpit, the other one clasping her hand firmly. Taking a steadying breath, he mustered all his strength at the right time and hoisted her up in the air, hoping that they succeeded with the double armpit hold they'd been practicing.

𝕵ulia was beyond nervous and beyond excited at the same time. She had arrived at Koldovstoretz the day before, and now it was time for the main event. Figure Skating. Julia watched as the singles performed first, enthralled by the precision and smoothness. Suddenly she felt underprepared but didn't let it show. She had, maybe unfortunately, gotten good at hiding her emotions after the family fiasco in the winter break. The solos ended and Julia once more checked her skates and outfit. Today, she was donning a gorgeous teal and black, figure skating dress, with silver glitter-like things all over the dress. She had smooth, new white skates and gloves. Julia's navy blue hair was left open cascading to her shoulder. She was feeling quite proud of her outfit. After all, It's never just skill and smartness, she thought. People did judge a book by it's cover, sometimes in good ways, sometimes in bad. Here there was an award for best outfit, and if Julia couldn't get a medal, she was aiming for that. Getting up from her seat, she gestured for Laasya to join her then made her way to the ice rink/frozen lake. Taking a deep breath she assured herself and her stomach, then waited as the music started.

Content. It was all Julia felt as she moved through the routine smoothly and, hopefully, flawlessly. The world disappeared and only she was left. The song they had chosen was a muggle song called Sky Full of Stars by a muggle band called Coldplay, fast yet slow at the same time. It also gave a elegant, or magical feeling. Perfect for IMOG and Figure skating. Julia and Laasya had started out side by side, waiting a second after the music started before launching themselves into the routine. They had decided to keep their routine somewhat symmetrical to make it look pleasing. Julia and Laasya started the routine at the same time. First she did a single Axel towards her right as Laasya did the same to her left. Then, they both smiled softly, lifted their wands and whispered, "Nix Facitur". She continued her routine without waiting to see if the spell was a success. If the spell had worked, it would have looked enthralling. Snowflakes shooting out of her wand like fireworks before the snowy landscape. It would have matched their song and their surroundings. But Julia didn't linger on those thoughts. We have a medal to win she thought, feeling a new burst of adrenaline rushing through her body as she got ready for her next move.

Shaking with anticipation. That was one way to describe Ula Takahashi at that moment.

The young primadonna stood immaculate beneath the Russian sun. The white satin of her dress clung to her frame like second skin and the rhinestones, scattered across the bodice like frost, shimmered with her every inhale and exhale. With flawless posture—chin held high, shoulders drawn back—she was a vision nothing short of perfection.

At least, that's what she believed.

The white swan—elegant, delicate, innocent, ethereal—stood poised beside her black swan: the ever beautiful Meiyu Xiang. God bless the day Ula had met her at that stingy, abandoned bathroom, for she couldn't imagine being partnered up with anyone else. In the weeks since, the two grew impossibly close due to spending twelve hours a day practicing their moves in unused classrooms they enchanted in ice, polishing their choreography until it gleamed. With Meiyu, everything came together quite easily. The concept. The music. The outfits. No endless debates and no clashing of the egos, just two witches striving to crush someone's hopes and dreams in winning anything against the two of them.

Yet, something strange had happened in those long hours of rehearsals. Words had stopped being necessary for the important things. It started as practical—silently mouther counts—until it evolved into glances between the two, that were enough to restart the sequence. Beneath them ran an understanding of how the other moved and thought. Much like the white and the black swan, the ying and the yang—incomplete without the other.

And so, standing in the middle of the frozen lake, with a razor sharp grin on her face, Ula squeezed Meiyu's hand. Not in reassurance, but in confirmation.

They were so ready.

Today was the day, the day when Laasya would finally be able to participate in the figure skating event, hosted by the IMOG, with her partner Julia Evans, whom she had met in their yurt yesterday and at some other places at Hogwarts before arriving at Koldovstoretz. She was excited and nervous at the same time. Excited because she would finally be able to participate in her first skating competition. She had participated in the band auditions last month, but they felt easy compared to this. She had just watched the solo performances and they were brilliant. The participants did leaps and twirls and everything. Laasya hoped that she and Julia would be able to perform brilliantly as them. Then it was time for the partner round. She checked her outfit again. It was a gorgeous teal and black with hints of silver here and there, which was matching with Julia's. She had heard there would be a winner for the best costume and hoped that they could win it, if they did not win the medal. She got up from her seat, and joined Julia on the frozen lake. She had butterflies in her stomach as the music started and she began to glide.

As Laasya skated delicately on the ice, but carefully to make sure she did it without messing up, it felt like everybody and everything had disappeared and only she was there, gliding on the ice. Luckily, she had not forgot the routine, which she had memorized plenty of times, or the whole performance would have been a flop. They were skating to a muggle song called Sky Full of Stars by a band named Coldplay and despite being muggle-born, she had never listened to it. But it felt so magical and graceful and would spice up their performance even more. She did a single axel to her left while Julia did the same to her right as they had decided to keep the routine symmetrical to look nice. Then she slowly lifted her wand along with Julia and said softly, "Nix Facitur". The spell would cause snowflakes to shoot out of her wand, which would have matched the snowy landscape perfectly. A burst of excitement and adrenaline passed through her as she got ready for her next move.

✽ It was a big day. The day that she and Mikey would finally get their chance to show off what they had been working hard to achieve. Later that day Avery and Mikey would figure skate in front of an audience and judges for the first time. She had arrived late. Just before her own performance. Adrenaline rushed through her veins as she took a deep breath. This was her and Mikey's time to shine.

Avery stepped out onto the ice. Letting go of the nerves and letting herself feel the music. That was the only way she would do it. Once Mikey was on the ice, everything would begin.

The choreography ran through her mind. This would be no easy performance, but she believed they could do it. They had taken special care planning and working for that day. The day that would change everything.

Avery took another breath as she got into position. Ready for the moment that the music would begin and she would dance the night away.

The song Mikey had chosen was one Avery as pure blood had never heard before. Though the moment she had heard it, she knew it was perfect. It didn't follow their own story, but it did follow the story of two people that wanted to go back to the time where they had been like herself and Mikey. Free and happy without the rift.

Mikey stood at the edge of the frozen lake, skates already laced tight and stiff against the leather as he watched the pair finish their dance. There was a cloud of breath with each inhale as the pair came to a stop and the applause began to roll across the ice like a wave washing over the shore. Mikey’s eyes, though, weren’t really focused on the pair as they took their bows. His eyes wandered to the side, back to Avery. She looked so calm. So centered. He could use some of her courage right now.

It was her calm courage that helped ground Mikey as much as he tried not to admit. Every time the nervous energy began to creep back in, Mikey’s eyes would fall upon the calm posture, the confident set of Avery’s shoulders, and he was drawn back into himself. Mikey flexed his hands before letting them fall back to his sides. Reminding himself that they had practiced for this. Enough so that the movements were etched deep within him. When the time came for their turn and the music began to build across the lake, Mikey pushed off the ice. It was like riding a broomstick, not quite, but close enough that the tension in Mikey’s chest was the same. Awareness of eyes upon him. Awareness that each movement counted.

He glided into place next to Avery as the opening notes of "The Night We Met" began to play. For a moment, the rest of the world outside receded. There was just the ice, the music, and what they had practiced to so many times they had each memorized it. As they continued to skate, Mikey began to gain confidence, not loud or in your face, just a quiet knowing. He was no longer worried about the judges or the audience. He was worried about balance, about staying in sync, about getting through the routine just as they had planned it.

✽ Ice skating. If someone had told Dylan that he would someday be ice skating with his best friend he would have brushed it off or even laughed. That was not the case now. Now he could feel the nerves bunching tighter inside of him. He glided out onto the ice. It was smooth sailing so far, but how much would his nerves affect his performance?

Then he saw Summer. She looked beautiful in her butterfly dress. It flowed slightly as she approached him. Her blue eyes shining. Dylan smiled. A real smile. He glided closer to her. The song was one he had never heard before, but that didn't stop him from learning it. Though for some reason the words hit him deep. Deeper than he had ever expected any song lyrics to hit.

She turned to face him as the song began. Then her head turned away. That was Dylan's cue. He gently placed his hands on her waist and pulled her in. Turning her face to meet his. The double twist was coming. A move that Dylan was very nervous about. What if he messed up? What if Summer fell? What if she got hurt? Dylan had to shake the bad thoughts away.

He raised his wand into the air and whispered out, "Periculum."

He hadn't checked to see if the spell had worked or not. All he could think about was Summer.

𝓣his was it, what her and Dylan had prepping for ever since he had asked her asked if they could do it together. Naturally, of course she had said yes to his offer. Living in New York despite being pure blooded, Summer had heard a little about the muggle sport of Ice Skating. The way they would glide across the ice is fancy leotards and turn jumps and spins and lifts and all sorts of fancy things.

𝓓espite Summer's nerves and the cold that she felt, she felt somewhat excited. It was their turn now and the others before them at been very good. Summer nervously approached the ice with Dylan, making sure to keep the smile on her face as she toyed with the lace of her dress. This was it, she took a breath and skated to the center of the ice, waiting for the music to start. "This is it" she whispered so only Dylan could hear.
