This thread is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games.
Tents are for suckers -- here at Koldovstoretz, we stay in enchanted yurts! Charmed for warmth so as to keep out the biting winter cold outside, these yurts are like nothing you have ever seen before and boast the cultural and beautiful importance of our Russian heritage inside. Choose from any one of the three offered themes, each representing one of the International Magical Olympic Games' values: Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. Sign up with anyone you want or ask for a random assignment to keep things exciting!
For questions about the yurt system, please contact Aulis Vorozheykin.
How do the yurts work?
  • You MUST be indexed in order to sign up for a yurt.
  • Yurts come in all different sizes and can house anywhere from two to eight people.
  • Everyone who attends the IMOG from a non-Koldovstoretz school will be staying in a yurt. You do not need to sign up for one if you don't want to be able to RP in your yurt, but you should sign up for a yurt if you plan on RPing with your yurtmates.
  • Koldovstoretz students can choose to stay in a yurt with their international friends (sign up) or simply stay in their normal yurts with their Koldovstoretz roommate(s) (not sign up).
  • Adults are invited only if they are presently staff at one of the nine schools, and may sign up for a shared yurt if they like (otherwise, it's expected that they chose to stay in an individual yurt). Graduates and former staff are not invited.
  • To RP in your yurt, follow these steps:
    1. Find a group
    2. Choose a yurt value/theme
    1. Excellence
    2. Friendship
    3. Respect
You may find descriptions for these themes below.
    3. Post your yurt thread(s). (There will not be any official yurt threads; these are ones you post yourself and are not moderated by me.)
Step 1: Finding a Yurt Group
In order to find people to be your yurtmates, choose one of the following two paths:
  1. Find yurtmates yourself by asking around and/or staying with your friends. Perhaps a group of you are in-character friends and would want to stay together. Perhaps you want to choose who you stay with instead of being randomly assigned. Perhaps you post in RPGs Partners Requests asking for potential yurtmates. All of these are fine! If you choose this path, please make sure you have consent from all of your yurtmates and then post your group here in this thread, making sure you answer "No" to "Randomly Assigned Roommates".
  2. Sign up to receive random yurtmates in this thread. If you have a small group but you want more people, or if you have no group and want to have some yurtmates, simply sign up here and answer "Yes" to "Randomly Assigned Roommates".
Note that only one person from your group should post here! Please do not clutter the thread.
Some additional information:
  • If there is anyone you do not want to be matched with, please let us know by messaging Aulis Vorozheykin. You do not need to provide a reason; you can simply say "Please do not room me with this person".
  • Sign-ups for yurtmates will close at 11:59 p.m. EST on February 14 for the start of the actual events. If you have not signed up by then, please do not RP in a yurt.
If you want to officially register your yurt group or sign up to be roomed with others, please fill out the following form:
Names of Tent Occupants: The names of everyone who is already in your group (can be just you)
Number of Tent Occupants: How many people are already in your group?
Preferred Theme: Choose between Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. We will try to honour this but no promises if you are signing up to be matched with others.
Assign Random Roommates? Yes/No; if you want more people to be added to your group (as long as it is fewer than 8 people) or if you are solo and want to be assigned roommates, put Yes. If you do not want anyone else added to your group, put No.

Step 2: Choosing a Theme
The Olympic values for Muggles are Excellence, Friendship, and Respect -- and we in the wizarding world believe in the same qualities from our student athletes. In signing up for a yurt, you may choose between being assigned to an Excellence yurt, a Friendship yurt, or a Respect yurt and state so in your sign-up (form can be found above). Read through the descriptions for each of the yurt themes below:
  1. Excellence

The Excellence tent assumes that you are going to be a victor in these International Magical Olympic Games, for it resembles much of a victor's podium. Anywhere from two to eight beds circle a small home gym in the centre area, placed there specifically so that students may continue to push themselves physically even in a place of rest. The beds have been enchanted so that the student who most utilises the gym during the day will have the #1 golden bed at night -- silky gold sheets, fluffy gold pillows, and even a bedframe that appears to have been made of real gold; it also rises slightly higher above the rest, a place of dominance and excellence. The other beds range in similar colours and comforts, from the second-nicest silver bed down to the eighth-place bed (if there are eight in the yurt), which is still comfortable but certainly not as fancy. The beds can rearrange each night as to who is allowed which comfort, so don't rest on your laurels -- continue to push yourself in the pursuit of excellence!
  2. Friendship

Comfort and closeness is the name of the game here in the Friendship yurt. The inside is filled with more pillows than you have ever seen in your life, all in shades of the loveliest blues and purples -- pillows atop the bunk beds lining the walls, pillows on the sleeping bags on the plush and slightly bouncy night sky-patterned floor, and of course pillows in the central pillow pit, in which you and your friends can jump and relax together, quite figuratively on cloud nine. Black light flickers from the enchanted candles overhead, which only drip wax on you if you're being a bad friend to one of your yurtmates; this black light also illuminates anything white or neon, and neon ink and quills have been provided for those who may want to write sweet messages on the walls to their mates. All in all, this tent gives the basic air of a giant sleepover from childhood, with perhaps a bit more magic.
  3. Respect

In order to be a truly great athlete, you must respect your competitors, and this is the central idea behind the Respect yurt. Each Respect yurt is actually themed after a different one of the nine competing schools, and in signing up for a Respect yurt, you don't know which one you'll get as they are randomly assigned! Perhaps you will end up in the light blue yurt representing Beauxbatons, decorated in the style of the Beauxbatons dormitories and with a lovely enchanted view of the Pyrenees out the window -- or maybe you'll be in a Castelobruxo yurt, forest green and full of magic, with the golden pyramid just out of reach. Durmstrang-themed yurts are brilliant scarlet, and if you're lucky, you'll catch the Bulgarian national team playing just outside the window.

As for Hogwarts' yurt, it's not themed after one specific House but after all four, joined together with each bed representing a specific House. If you end up in an Ilvermorny yurt, be prepared for the roaring of magical creatures from its four Houses waking you up in the morning as a pseudo-alarm clock! The Mahoutokoro yurts are also red with white accents, the air smelling faintly of the cherry blossoms you can see outside your window.

Those of the Tenūsa theme seem more like a living forest than a yurt, complete with a crystal ball in the centre and with the faint smell of various plants and foods in the air; as for the Uagadou-based yurts, once stepping inside residents may find themselves in a permanent semblance of night with silvery moonlight streaming in through the window, their lofted beds seeming like the perfect place to catch a good night's dreaming. If you are lucky enough, however, to land in one of the Koldovstoretz-themed yurts, you will find yourself in a traditional yurt, warm and golden inside from ever-lit lanterns, with no enchanted windows but a beautiful view of the snowy mountains and icy lake nearby. Perhaps you will even find some school supplies often used by Koldovstoretz students, such as Russian spellbooks and various cauldrons or uprooted saplings.
Step 3: Posting Your Yurt Thread(s)
  • You can make however many threads you want that take place in your yurt over your week's stay at Koldovstoretz, but please make sure you stay consistent and always be in the same yurt with the same people. This is your own responsibility, so please stick to this rule and also make the threads yourself!
  • Your yurt should have a unique name of your choice to make clear which yurt group a thread belongs to; you should tag [yurtname] in the titles of each thread ocurring in that yurt.
  • Please treat yurt threads of a group your character is NOT in as Private [PV] - you cannot enter them unless you have been specifically invited by members of that group.
  • Each yurt thread is still subject to HiO RP rules (200 words minimum). [Note that, while the first post of a yurt thread can include the description provided above, this does not count towards your 200 words of RP.]
  • Yurts will be unmoderated unless moderation is specifically requested by the residents of the yurt. No vines coming to attack you here!
