Devil's Gonna Get You
Homestead Members: @Maisie Gemmell | @Robin Marie | @Adeline SpinksSprawling across the great mountains that towered over Tenūsa lay the most magical structures the isle had to offer. They were not just mere feats against gravity and physics but symbolic of the ever growing understanding of the island folk. They knew that tradition was important, and they would never forget, but acknowledging and respecting the past does not require binding yourself to it. No the Isle and its inhabitants were always looking to grow, to thrive. So while many of the older structures still sprawled across the jungle floor, these marvels carved into rock and crossed the expanses of the sky while never taking away from the natural beauty of the place.
One would think up so high that roots could not reach, that the rot that was beginning to engulf the jungle floor would be a distant problem. Such beliefs would be quickly realised as foolish. Everything in this island was connected. Being made out of magic itself many believed the island to be alive in a sense, and as such each and every part of it was one and the same. Much like a body, the infection could spread no matter the initial cut. This disease that was claiming the ancient haven seemed to be intelligent enough to use that magic, to guide it to where it wished to be. To guide it to the creatures it wished to take, and as such from the draping vines and tunnelled pockets their inky ichor appeared ready to strike.
Ravenclaws were known to be smart, and Ravenclaw duellists were lethal in turning that intelligence into prowess. It made them a harsh competitor to go against but what would come for the three teammates was no ordinary target. No it was something much worse. Roll: 10 Still with their instincts in check they would not succumb as poorly to the monstrous entity as others would. After all, their duellist training had made them quick on their feet and their Ravenclaw status had them quick in the mind. So when the inky mass of tendrils began to claw at their feet and hands while they rested it was a near instantaneous burst that allowed themselves to break free of the constricting grasp. Still they were not entirely in the clear as the infestation had already spread thickly across the floor of their high house making it a writhing sea of darkness. Far more problematic that than however were the three stalking vines that seemed to be aiming for an attack ready to launch at them in seconds. They would have to rely on everything they had learned if they were going to get through this, but they had each other, they knew the techniques, it was time to properly use them. No holding back.Moderation Note: None of you are currently restrained as you managed to escape but your room has been taken over by the entity and you each have a vine attempting to launch at you.

Devil's Gonna Get You

High houses were not where Maisie ever expected to be. They were too big and too grand for a small girl from the big city. And yet, she was glad to be here with Robin and Adeline, two friends and duellists who actually had some skill. She'd come to enjoy their company—something valuable in a place that was completely new.
Maisie had never been out of the country, and certainly not in a jungle before. She had taken several turns around the room just to ensure it was real. Perhaps that was why she had been quick to notice something was not right. A fleck of green seemed to intermix with the floorboards. At first she thought it was some leftover fibers from a rug, but then it moved. "Addie, Robin..." she started as she raised her hand to point.
And all of a sudden, there was one by her foot. It was a large vine, clearly a part from the jungle below. Three large vines seemed to emerge—one for each of them. But Maisie could only think as she shifted her eyes around that this might be part of a bigger whole. Out of the corner of her eye, she spied her broom, which might help them make a quick exit if needed. But for now, she reached across the table for her wand, having just recently set it down along with her bags. "Do you think they have Devil's Snare on this island?" she queried, before pointing at the vine nearest her and casting, "Lumos Solem!"
She blinked. It was going to get bright—unless, as if on cue, she failed again.

The trio's arrival and subsequent journey had been entirely exhausting. Tenusa had proven to be even more enchanting than the Spinks girl could have realized, and significantly hotter and more humid than she could have ever imagined. Arriving to the island brought a wave of emotions and new experiences that the girl's would undoubtedly carry with them back to Hogwarts, and the journey was only beginning. As the day came to it's close, the three lounged, soaking in the atmosphere of their cozy high house.
Unbeknownst to the three birds, a threat was slowly growing. Tenusa was harboring a secret. Bit by bit, tendril by tendril, an infestation spread it's way through the forest around the girls, inky, ominous, alive. It started slowly at first.
Maisie noticed the first tendrils as they forced themselves through the floorboards. "Addie, Robin..." her brown eyes widened as the vines began to flood their room. "...huh?" Addie lurched forward out of bed, narrowly avoiding a winding tendril. She looked between her groggy friends- was this actually happening? Was she... dreaming? Maisie's voice cut through the fog. "Do you think they have Devil's Snare on this island?" Maisie called out, fully pulling Adeline out of her half-awake state. It was moments like these that Addie admired Maisie most. She was one step ahead, perceptive, prepared.
Adeline would never have thought to identify the spread so quickly, even while wide awake. Whether the seemingly sentient vines before them actually were devils snare, they would have to see. In the meantime, it was Maisie that Addie found herself leaning on in this moment of fear. Adeline retrieved her wand from her bedside table as Maisie targeted the vine before her. There was no time to discuss a plan. Ready or not, it was time to act. "Lumos Solem!" Maisie called out. Almost instantaneously, Adeline flung her own spell. "Impedimenta!" Her cherry wood wand honed on Maisie's vine. Adeline held her breath.

Why was something tickling her foot? The thought came to Robin in a haze, her first thought that her older brother Jeremiah was trying to pull a prank on her. It wouldn't have been too far-fetched to assume that he had snuck into her and Sam's room to irritate both of them - more than likely an instruction straight from their mother herself. Kicking her feet at what she presumed to be his hands and tugging the blanket tighter around her, she mumbled something about not wanting to do any chores. When the tickling only continued, she heaved herself up, ready to shove him away, when she heard her name being called - a female voice. Because she wasn't at home in Wales, or even at school in Scotland. She was in Tenūsa - and her friends needed her help.
A split second passed where Robin took in the scene - an infestation of dark, inky tendrils creeping up the bed she was lying in - the reality of her situation kicked in immediately, causing a jolt of adrenaline to course through her body. "Do you think they have Devil's Snare on this island?" Robin heard one of her friends ask as she scrambled to stand up on top of her bed, a few choice curse words streaming from her mouth at the sudden intrusion to her sleep. ("Holy shit, Jesus Christ what the fuck!?") The raven quickly grabbed her wand from under her pillow, bare feet sinking into the soft cushion of her bed as she steadied herself, pointing her wand at the closest tendril.
The isle of Tenūsa had captured Robin's attention from the moment she'd learned of it - an island dedicated to the instruction and education of divinitory magics - there had been no possibility but to be absolutely enthralled. When her group of friends - Addie and Maisie - decided to travel together and stay in the same homestead, Robin couldn't imagine herself staying anywhere other than the High Houses in the mountains above Omah Geni. The treehouses were incredibly magical, filled with charms to ensure their comfort despite the wooden, stone, and thatch exterior. The vines trailing from the High Houses had only brought her a sense of joy when looking at them from below. It felt like she had been dropped into a fantasy book - a group of three young students departing their homeland on a quest - a quest to bring honor to their names and prove their prowess to all who doubted them. Now, facing this tendrilic plant - the deadly plant she'd learned about in her first year Herbology class, she couldn't help but feel a rush of undiluted excitement. Adventure! A real one! This is what she'd been looking for since the moment she received her letter from Hogwarts in the post. She had to stifle the pure excitement she felt at nearly being strangled to death in her sleep to be able to react promptly. It would only be fun if she didn't die, she had to remind herself.
Drawing from her memory of the previous year, the first instinct that came to her was to cast flame. It didn't matter that they were in a house made of flammable material - she only wanted to watch this plant burn. In any case, if it wasn't Devil's Snare, at least she could potentially damage it enough to give her another moment to think. "Incendio!"

Devil's Gonna Get You
FINAL MODERATION OF PART ONEThis girlish trio leapt into action upon their High House being attacked by leagues of angry vines. Three vines launched into the air, one for each of the students. That which was attacking @Maisie Gemmell was fended off by Maisie's own Lumos Solem and a kind Impedimenta from @Adeline Spinks, and @Robin Marie defended herself with fire. Unfortunately, though Maisie and Robin stayed unharmed, Adeline's untargeted vine seized her leg... and then, suddenly, let go and retreated. Adeline was bruised, certainly, but not restrained.
Standing in for Lawrence in this moderation round to end part 1 of the event!
All three of the girls were free to leave as they wished, because as if terrified of the trio of powerful students, the vines shrunk back into nothingness and vanished seemingly into thin air. Perhaps they could proceed to part two and meet up with the other residents of the High Houses...
