Motivating Mahoutokoro!
Several weeks before the students of Mahoutokoro were to leave for the International Magical Olympic Games (IMOG), which would this year be hosted at the Koldovstoretz Conservatory in wintry Russia, an anonymous professor decorated one empty classroom with plenty of sign-making materials. Everything from large poster boards and rolls of parchment to markers, paints, glitters, and, of course, quills and inks in varying colors and of varying enchantments could be found scattered around the desks and tables. A snack bar had also been set up at one end, boasting local delicacies - such as pocky sticks, mochi, and onigiri rice balls - in case students got hungry while they were making posters.
This errand is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games. January 25th, 2026 Mahoutokoro
(Japan)
Of course, the creation of posters was not just for fun. Different schools always took great pride in winning the IMOG, whensoever they were hosted at different times throughout the many years that they had existed alongside the Muggle version. To support other athletes from one's own school was considered just as much of an honour as was competing in one of the games. As such, the professor who had set up this errand had promised rich rewards to any who came to create a supportive banner, whether they were going to the games themselves or staying home. Of course, students could go to the Koldovstoretz visit and not compete; that was why an abundance of posters could be made, to be sent along with the school’s delegation.
A school with no supporters was certain to be a losing school! The audience is just as important as the athletes.

Motivating Mahoutokoro!
It was very early in the morning, a few hours before dawn, when Katsuro arrived at the room designated for the creation of posters and other support materials for the Mahoutokoro team that would be present at the 2026 International Magic Olympic Games. That year the competitions would take place in Koldovstoretz, a name he would never dare to say aloud, but the truth is, he was curious to see that school with his own eyes. He had already read and heard about how it was built and organised, and although he wasn't a big fan of the winter temperatures in Russia, Katsuro was still eager to travel and see a new place and possibly make some new contacts.
However, he hadn't yet decided whether he would actually participate in any of the competitions or not. There were one or two activities that seemed interesting to him, but they required him to form a team, and to what extent he would be able to do that or not, was still a mystery. But one thing he was sure of , was that if he decided to actually participate, one thing absolutely couldn't be missing, something he could start working on immediately.
Having avoided the common area where breakfast was usually served, since he didn't want to draw anyone's attention to his presence, and more importantly, to his absence, Katsuro went to the table where some snacks were displayed. He chose an onigiri rice ball and began taking small bites while looking at the materials laid out there, trying to get his creativity going. One thing he was sure that he would put on all the banners, his photograph, obviously! There would be no doubt who the posters were for.
Once he was satisfied with his breakfast, at least for now, Katsuro decided to get to work. To begin with, his idea wasn't to make something tasteless and flashy. It had to be something sober and done with some rigour, he would never want to be associated with something messy and pointless. He opted to make vertical banners, resembling royal standards, more sophisticated than those simple, common horizontal banners or small posters that would be barely seen in the middle of a large crowd. No, if they were going to show their support to him, things had to be done with some class, worthy of Mahoutokoro's prestige and his own, obviously.
He began by cutting out beige and blue strips. Blue, the shade of his robes, also a symbol of his abilities and student status. Then, giving his best in terms of drawing and calligraphy, Katsuro dedicated his time to creating the logo of his beloved school, writing his name, and of course, a phrase worthy of himself. In this case, he opted for three different quotes, one especially dedicated to his favourite professors.
Next, and not wanting to waste much time risking being caught by someone, Katsuro carefully rolled up all the banners he had made and hurried to the owlery to anonymously send them to the people he knew. Surely his plan was going to work! No one would suspect that he was responsible for making those masterpieces, and obviously who wouldn't want to display them and show their support for one of their own? That certainly wasn't Mahoutokoro's way!

The art was what had drawn Hikari to this place.
He didn't normally participate in events the school organised, preferring the solitude of his dorm, away from the noise and bustle of his fellow students. Solitude suited him much better. Even then, it wasn't too bad. Mahoutokoro followed strict routines, and everything was always orderly and organised, suited for a school. But even then, one couldn't have an event such as this with the same calm and quiet that the school normally bore.
The International Magical Olympic Games were a happy occasion, and Hikari would be attending, even if it wasn't exactly his type of thing.
It was after all, a pretty significant occasion.
Curiosity had drawn Hikari to the classroom which bore the materials for the banner-making event. The type of curiosity that could stem only from something that promised the craft he adored. It had a way of pulling him from his self-imposed quiet, gently, persistently.
Although, that did not mean he didn't care to support his school. He always did. It was just that... he wasn't exactly the type of person to show up at crowded games and clap and cheer and scream himself hoarse. He'd attempted that at the Granian Derby the previous year. It had been an eye-opening experience, in the sense that he would never let himself get into another situation like that if he could help it— with all the noise and hats and bodies pressing together. Hikari shuddered at the memory. It had been too much, way too much.
He could do this though, Hikari thought as he lingered at the door. The room was not too crowded. Only a few people were around, surrounded with pencils and parchments and bottles of color. Unsurprisingly, he didn't recognise any of them. Hikari, for the most part, basically had only one friend in the entire school.
No, that wasn't quite right. Hikari spotted a black haired boy busy at work, drawing and coloring something; shapes, lines, he couldn't quite make out properly. A name floated up to his mind, unbidden.
Katsuro Souto. A fellow racer.
Hikari did not dwell on his thoughts, walking over to the table to collect the stationary he required. Pencils, an eraser, markers. He took a his time to look through the colors, inwardly marveling at the multitude and variety of colors they had managed to gather. It was impressive, to say the least.
He eventually settled on a shade of lavender pink, the light shade reminding him of the school, and picked out inks and paints of the colors he felt could complement the pink well. He eventually ended up with shades of purples and blues, and finding himself a spot in an empty corner of the room.
He soon got to work.

Before he found joy in the teamwork involved in Quidditch, Sara always had felt this was much more his scene. Cheering those much more deserving of the spotlight, with something else that could speak for him. Banners, posters, and such. Something that could give a lot more impact than his voice did. He fondly recalled of friends who had used just that during his games to make their message even more clear, and he hoped that even if he didn't know specifically who were the ones competiting for their school yet, Sara wanted to show more school pride. Afterall, he wouldn't be here much longer afterall. With graduation just around the corner, soon the school grounds he had walked on for several years will be a nostalgic memory instead of an almost everyday experience.
He had been asked in passing by a before if he would participate in the Olympics and Sara shyly offered vague non-commital responses. It was a common question he supposed, being a senior and part of the quidditch team. By other people's words, he was fit for sports more than academics. It felt .. a little shameful, really. He feels his heavy expectation to do what he actually could for the school, but he didn't feel in his heart that he was really ready for such a big sport. He was going to do his best to cheer for those who do though. And that's why when he heard they were going to be doing banners for the team, Sara didn't have to ponder for an hour if he wanted or didn't want to do it.
It was a little nervewrecking to think who might be watching while he was doing his own craft. Remembering that everyone else might be busy with theirs, Sara was able to not think too much about it. As much as he preferred to do the banner in the privacy of his own room, it was good to go out to these events every now and then. How would he grow past his usual burst of social anxiety if he stay in his comfort zone and relied on specific people to give him a sense of mind.
He saw a couple of people he recognised in the area. Safe to say he was surprised Katsuro would be interested in making banners for…. other people. But he seemed enthusiastic and motivated to do it! Sara decided not to really distract him. Who knows he might be in a creative flow, and Sara wanted nothing more than to encourage that.
There was another junior he hasn't had that much pleasure in talking to, Sara believed their name was.. Fujimoto-san… he thinks? Sara might poke them later. With a banner/poster in mind, Sara begun to take just enough items for his idea. He had laid them all out on the floor to work with. He was in the middle of sketching out the basic outlines the best he could until he realised one of the most crucial red marker had rolled out to someone else's side.
Hikari might notice that the edge of their poster was touched by a random red marker. And a senior would soon come to their side, towering over their smaller form with a guilty/sheepish smile. " S-sorry .. that's mine.. I didn't realise it rolled away.. hm..?" he noticed Hikari's work. " Oh! That .. that looks nice! I .. didn't expect anyone to use those colours.. " he muttered, seeing the splash of pinks taking up the main focus, purple and blue next. He thought most associated pink in a negative way, considering the robe colour system.

Hikari was actually having a good time, away from the crowds of people, doing something he actually liked. The room had not become too crowded, and Hikari could safely say not too many more people were going to show up. The quiet hum of activity, the scratch of pencils, snipping of paper, settled peacefully under his skin, almost pleasant, and Hikari found it easier to lose himself in his work without feeling like he was being watched.
His own banner was slowly coming to life before his eyes, the colors merging into place. The colors settled where they were meant to, pinks fading into purple hues, anchored by the cooler blues. Hikari flipped open a pink marker, solidifying the lines around the pink sakura blossoms that had been smudged onto the paper.
Out of the corner of his eye, Hikari caught a marker roll into his space. He spared the pen a quick glance, but made no attempt to pick it up or remove it. The section of the banner it had rolled into, he had already finished; a corner decorated with pinks, purples and browns— an intricate design of cherry blossoms and branches. Hikari was pretty certain the ink had already dried, so he need not worry about any smudging.
Hikari had very little patience for smudges. It always accounted for a whole bunch of unnecessary problem fixing.
It didn't matter here. Hikari ignored the pen, leaving it to whoever had dropped it to come and retrieve it on their own. It had nothing to do with him. He picked up the brown marker as a voice, sheepish and soft floated over to him. Apologising.
Hikari's hand stilled, and he closed his eyes, fighting back the sigh which had risen to his throat. Had his evening of blissful solitude come to an end? Of course it had. He should've known it was too good to be true. It was like there was some part of his face which screamed, Lonely and has no friends. Please come bother.
It wasn't like he was lonely.
Still bent over his banner, for a minute, he seriously considered pretending he had not heard the voice and see if it passed. What was that phrase he'd hard Akari use? If I pretend he's not there, maybe he'll go away. Would that work for him too?
Nevertheless, Hikari did not wish to be rude. Even though his peace had been interrupted, the person hadn't been rude. So he looked up at the newcomer who had invaded his personal space.
He was tall, Hikari noted, easily towering over him. He also seemed much older, maybe a sixth or even a seventh year, dressed in pink. The boy was looking at his art curiously, and Hikari had to resist the urge to bundle up the canvas and tuck it away behind him. He commented about the color, offhandedly, softly, and Hikari blinked, annoyance seeping into him even as he realised what he meant. Pink stood for the lowest strata of academic level. Even then, who was this gentleman who'd showed up out of nowhere and barged into his personal space? Hikari wished he'd leave.
The younger boy glanced down at his handiwork and then back up, unsure of what he should say. He didn't feel like playing into his fantasies. He closes the marker carefully, setting it aside, "Right, umm.. thank you?"

" O-oh.." it escaped him before he could really stop himself. He looked away, trying to hide his expression. Knowing that it might've caused a misunderstanding, out of instinct. But if Hikari had keen eyes, he could see Sara's brows furrowed and the frown deepened. Everything about the expression was like a harsh drawn line. As if he had been insulted greatly, something he felt he shouldn't have been. It was the same expression that had on occasion, made quidditch opponents too shaky to focus on the game.
He tried his best not to let it get to him. Perhaps Hikari was just shy, and didn't know what to say. But his overthinking had been kicked into gear, and all he could worry about was that if he had disturbed someones space by taking a selfish chance to … to what? Compliment their piece? Start conversation? He had to tell himself he hadn't meant to - but that didn't mean he wasn't the cause. Or might be - oh god - he was spiraling a little.
" I see…" he forced himself to say, looking back at the other. " Good luck then" he says, ensuring he had the marker in him, before turning back to his piece and leaving the student alone. He was going to accidentally think about this the whole day wasn't he? And worse- he was going to look like he was planning to send a bludger to the kid while he did! Curse this face! While continuing to work on his piece, despite looking like he was seconds from tearing the banners to shreds, his mind was busying itself trying to calm down and not overthink on the interaction.
This was out of his control… but at least he will keep this in mind for future interactions.
OOC: TY for the interaction! So sorry- I could not justify Sara staying and talking to Hikari still after that xD Its still open for interaction though!
