Everyone was cheerful.

The boy who presented himself as Landsey seemed to be buzzing with energy, enough to overlook her at first, but quickly apologized. "Oh, don't worry about it," Lyanna replied with a fleeting, warm smile. "But yes, it's nice to meet you as well!" His politeness didn't end there though. After finishing an introduction of his own, the first year slipped back into the crowd for a moment, only returning after having acquired three pastries from the stand on the other side of the deck of the Lost Pearl.

Whatever had he brought those, for?

The sunchild's question did not remain unanswered, however, as the ever-so-lively Landsey spoke up once more. "I thought you might be feeling a bit peckish. There are so many people at the banquet, we'd better enjoy it now, it'll be gone soon!", he said. It was unexpected to say the least. Lyanna didn't believe that the boy wanted to drug them, though, otherwise he would've been a very good actor. No, he seemed genuine, to which the sunchild smiled. She valued kindness.

"Oh, thank you! That's very sweet of you."

And then she took a bite. Was that the wrong decision? Haste makes waste, they say. Only time would tell. As soon as Lyanna bit into the pastry, her eyes widened with approval. It was delicious, a mix of lemon and... a flavor she couldn't place, but the perfect combination all the same. A mental extra thank you note to the bringer of this delicacy formed itself in her mind, one that she would not forget. Someday, when he was in need, Lyanna would pay him back. Probably. Or she would forget, for time is avoidable for no man, and with time comes the slipping away of memories, cherished or not.

Everyone was cheerful.

That cheerfulness was infectious, a pandemic spreading, but a kind one. When Lyanna heard Landsey's question, she didn't even hesitate before answering, which was living proof of its contagion. "I do! It's nice to take a break from the usual rhythm of eat, class, homework and sleep," and not sleeping, for that matter, but oh well. As to not break the mood, the sunchild's lips pulled up into a lopsided smile, reflecting her previous answer. Oh, how she was bored of never breaking her normal rhythm, she pondered.

In reality, that wasn't even true.

Lyanna didn't mind at all, homework was quite fun for most subjects, as long as it was interesting, and the food served during mealtimes in the Great Hall was always very good. Sleeping was a dream come true (possible pun intended:P), and the insomnia had lessened by quite a lot, lately. And so, when Verity then asked her about Hogwarts, specifically how she found her first year, her brows furrowed into a pensive but interested expression as she thought on how to best phrase her answer, and what the answer even was. Before speaking, it also occurred to her that she was probably hoping for a few tips from a senior like her, which Lyanna would gladly offer.

When words had formed, the sunchild spoke.

"At first, it can certainly be a lot. Especially coming from a muggle family, that certainly makes it more of a challenge, but that's only at the beginning! Once you understand how things work around here, Hogwarts will be as much of a home for you as it is for the purebloods with the longest legacies. I'm a wizard born myself, but I certainly remember feeling lost at the beginning... as I said though, you'll get used to it. Maybe you already are! Some people are like that, fish in water wherever they end up, change not affecting them too much. But I digress."

A second of silence. Then,

"Having a few close friends really helped me, because the more people you have around you, the more people you have to give you support and help you out- but also to share mutual feelings of confusion, and not feel all alone! That can be hard, especially at the beginning. Hmm, what else do I have to offer? Oh! Just because you're new at Hogwarts, doesn't mean you shouldn't put yourself out there. On the contrary, go sign up for one of the sports here, and get involved in the student activities run once in a while! Don't stress out, enjoy it, and remember that us Hufflepuffs are always here to lend a hand."

Being cheerful wasn't so bad after all.

Clocks ticked on, seconds coming and going as they always did, but with perhaps a softer light coating them. Not so damning, but something to be anticipated, instead. Candlelight flickered as voices continued to perfume the air, hints of laughter and smiles ever apparent. Mists ghosted over the edges of the boat, holding it in an enchanting embrace.

Near the edge of the boat, leaning on a railing, there were two. Meeting for the first time only in technicalities, but blushing and stuttering all the same. @Zophyr Qethnis and @Maurice Andrieux were starting off the night well, though a little late, with compliments and flattery of every sort. Their conversation would have seemed odd to any passerby, consisting of guitars, constellations, and (less odd) going to get food.

More compliments were being exchanged elsewhere, though @Lilith Darcy and @Harvey Barrows did it with an air of calculated sincerity, even when it was genuine. A conniving pair they made, both manipulative and hiding behind a well made facade, which could be a perfect match, or end in burning tatters. Alas, only time would truly tell.

There was also more dramatic pretentious teens leaning against railings, as one would expect from a less than exciting night such as this. @Archer Duncan was pondering both pretentiousness (as one does), and @Violeta Roux simply striking conversation so as to not make a complete waste of the night. Or so one might think, though intentions are fickle things.

The later attendees could still find plates with any manner of the courses even amidst things going faster than one might like. The children would not starve or go without unless by their own volition. Floorboards creaked, candles twinkled, and the evening went on like any other night might, though perhaps with more extravagance than necessary.

Ally Craig made it to the dining hall with the rest of her group but somehow managed to have gotten herself lost with in the crowd so it had took her a good minute to find her group again but when she spotted them Maisie was the first one she had spotted amongst the crowd.
Ally couldn't believe it how she had managed to get herself lost when she was just there talking to her friends when all of a sudden, all Ally had seen was her group's backs walking away and they had gotten further and further away from her to the point where Ally had to practically run, sprint or jog to be able to keep up with them so Ally had decided I had better walk for getting there a tad later would be better than getting there all dirty and scathed, scraped and bruised from the constant felling she would have done if she had ran. Ally immediately after spotting Maisie with the other two boys she immediately apologized saying Oh my heavens, I am terribly sorry guys! I had gotten lost in the crowd one minute you all were standing and walking by my side and then like some evil force or spell had pulled me to the boats siding and when I turned back around you were gone if I hadn't spotted Maisie first I think I would have lost my mind!
Ally had hoped her apology sounded sincere and realistic so then she went to take her seat and decided to order the first thing she saw on the menu which happened to be Chicken tamales with a side of chicken salad and chicken fajitas, because for some strange reason she had been smelling chicken she boarded the ship so that is what Ally had settled on wanting to eat.

For‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ a fraction of a moment, Mikey was literally out of breath. Avery’s last remark was a surprise to him. The feeling of it went all the way from his brain to his stomach. He and she had their fingers intertwined a little more loosely until he regained his senses and remembered that he was supposed to be a person with lungs and brains, not a creature made of overwhelming emotions.

At the same time, his stomach made a small but very loud grumble. Mikey stopped. Then winced. Then laughed like people who are both embarrassed and comfortable with their own failures usually do. He waved his hand. “To tell you the truth, I completely forgot to eat today, and now my stomach is throwing a tantrum.”

The boat shifted a bit, and their shoulders brushed, and he turned towards her. Avery's dress, her hair, and her cheeks were all lit up with the dancing light of the lantern. Mikey’s face changed, and along with it, his eyes not only showed immense care for her but also a kind of wonder that amazed him every time. Somehow, she was able to get even more beautiful every time he looked at her.

“Did you see all of that?” he said, pointing at tables full of food, and forcibly pulling his eyes from her. There were bowls of something steaming, trays of hot and freshly baked bread rolls shining with the melted butter, and plates of things whose names he could not pronounce at all, along with glasses sparkling as if they were little stars catching the sunlight. “It would be very unfortunate if all this stuff just lay there wasting away. We as students would be completely irresponsible if we didn't try one of everything.”

While they were holding hands, he was drawing figures on her palm with his thumb, and looking at her playfully, he said, “Captain Gray,” “How about we just take over one of those tables?” With a polite smile, which was both a request for permission and an invitation, he pulled her hand a little and straightened up. “Come on,” he said with a smile, “let's do it before all the good rolls are taken.” He continued to walk her through to the tables, they were still holding hands ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌firmly.

Time ticked by as they chatted about silly little things and laughed off their previous encounter. Any tension in her shoulders from earlier that day had quickly dissolved, and relief washed over her. Despite struggling to maintain eye contact at times, Percival was good company – easy to talk to and rather friendly. He was unlike any other snake she had met, but did not mind that. If anything, it was rather refreshing. Perhaps they would become friends after this evening.

Cecilia nibbled on bits of food here and there to keep her hunger at bay, but began to grow curious about the rest of the ball. Chants and laughter drifted from another area, growing louder until she could no longer ignore the clamour. She could have sworn it was as though a spell was luring her. Perhaps this meant it was time for a change of pace. She turned to her companion, wondering if he had a similar thought.

“Do you hear the music? It sounds like something fun is going on over there,” she said, gesturing towards the source of the sound. “Let’s go investigate,” she suggested with a wide grin before gently grabbing his hand and leading him away when she heard no objection. Though if he wished, he could easily let go.

Tonight most certainly is a first...

She had never been one to arrive later than the appointed hour, such... mannerisms defied all expectations her name carried. Perhaps the Athanatos understood the importance; he arrived before her after all.

Stood by the entrance like a groom waiting at an altar.

Nabi would look at him calmly, noting the shift in tone as he said her name with a familiarity he would have once hesitated to use. Her compliment lingered, earned by the way his attire seemed to obey rather than wear the boy. You look so certain that she would arrive, join him, even after everything. "I would leave making entrances to you, Aamon.." His name left her lips with a smooth and surprisingly natural informality. Nabi could count with just one hand the number of times she had ever referred to him in such a way.

"You have proven yourself to know how to make a memorable entrance." A faint smile appeared as she calmly said, "Or should I remind you?" Of that night at the common room, the party that ended with the sound of an explosion that led to a rise of... water at the attendees' ankles.

While lavender filled the air.

His mutter in the hallway that night came to mind, before the scent of his cologne brought her back, looking slightly up at him. A small hum left her as her eyes flickered from his to the silvery glint around his neck, "It was a gift, and it would have been rude not to oblige to your hope of seeing me wear it tonight..." There was a fleeting hint of pink that colored her ears as she attempted to reason, more to herself than Aamon. "Thank you... It is a beautiful piece..."

Her gray eyes looked back up at Aamon as she felt him take her extended hand to turn it, the cold metal under her fingers contrasting with the warmth of his breath that fanned the skin stretched over her knuckles. Nabi hummed softly, taking a slight gulp while his smirk cut deeper along his face, feeling a warmth in her chest, It is just the metal heating against my skin... or the effects of his words that seemed to dig beneath her skin with ease.

She never did know what to expect of the young Aamon, meeting his gaze while his thumb flirted with her skin. "Who is to say I am the right company?" Leaning in slightly, her voice would soften into a faint whisper, "And if I had not arrived? If I had decided to leave you to stand here in waiting, hoping to hear the siren's call to lead you astray", you would have looked like a fool...

By the water's edge.

The links around her neck grew mildly heavy, the candlelight casting a silhouette of his figure as her fingers gently curled in his grasp, as if subconsciously not wanting him to go, to risk thinking he had been lost again through the sea of bodies. "you could have come for nothing", but a watery demise... "with not even the spell of the sirens to guide you."

Avery laughed lightly with Mikey at the sound of his rumbling stomach. She had understood that feeling of not eating all day. She herself had eaten very little that day. Her nerves of making sure everything was perfect getting the better of her. “Trust me. We’re lucky my stomach hasn’t begun rumbling. I barely ate today and even skipped breakfast.”

Avery knew her grandparents would kill her if they found out she skipped breakfast. They had always stressed the importance of eating breakfast as it was the first meal of the day, but Avery tested that theory by not eating. She didn’t see the problem with it though since she wasn’t hungry until that moment anyway. Maybe she shouldn’t continue letting her nerves take over. Not eating every day didn’t sound like a good idea.

Avery couldn’t take her eyes off of Mikey. How had he become even more handsome than he already was? His blue eyes sparkled in the moonlight as the gently swaying ship caused them to bump shoulders. How had she gotten so lucky?

“That foods does look as if it is calling our names.” Her mouth drooled at the sight of still fresh rolls steaming in the cool air. Their buttery tops shining in the light. The soups smelled delicious and filled the air with their smells. How could one not stop and stare or eat? It was just too delicious and beautiful to look at.

She smiled. Captain Gray. That was a phrase no one but Mikey had called her. She thought it was sweet. “Well, lead the way, First Mate Forville! We don’t want to let those hot buttery rolls go to waste!” Avery grinned before she laughed a little. The night was just getting better and better by the minute. There would be a time for more dancing later. Now, it was time to dine.

Their conversation seemed to be turning into a sort of battle of wits. Maurice's response had Zophyr once again at a loss for words. Oh come on, what was he supposed to respond when his- crush? friend? (who even knew at this point, just the prettiest boy on earth) said he wouldn't need an excuse to meet up again. It was unfair. This was debilitating. Zophyr realized he had started grinning almost giddily, which was embarrassing when he was known for being able to school his expressions.

He found that he no longer cared. He was here, with Maurice; nothing else particularly mattered. The blush on the French boy's face was absolutely everything to Zophyr, and he had the urge to find every way to prompt it possible. For now, though, he would get a moment's respite as the Uagadou student held out his hand, palm up, in an invitation to follow him to one of the small 2-person tables covered in appetizing desserts.

He was sad he'd missed the seafood, though it did seem there was some left (perhaps he'd go take some later, as a midnight snack). The desserts looked delicious, however, and right on theme, blue and white and sparkly. He went with a blue pie of some sort - whatever was in it, he did not know, but it was very blue - with what he hoped were edible pearls decorating it. He did find he was unsurprisingly distracted from the food by the boy in front of him, though.

As much as just admiring him for hours sounded appealing, he wanted ever so much to hear that voice again. After months getting to know each other through owls, he wanted to be able to imprint Maurice's voice into his brain so he could hear it every time he read a letter in the future.

"I'm having a bit of a hard time registering that this is really happening, if I'm honest," he began, before pausing to take a bite. "How are you? How are your sisters?" Was that a weird thing to ask? He knew Maurice cared about them, though. "How is Quidditch? And - what was it - bass ball?" Was this too many questions? Why was he so insecure about it all? He just wanted to talk to him, keep knowing him, finally take advantage of the fact that they were not only on the same continent but within five meters of each other.

"The moon is really bright tonight. Perhaps we could dance, later, if you're up for it. Or, uh..." he swallowed. "Go on a broom ride together, maybe. Or not, it's up to you, pretty boy."

*She complimented me !*
Touched by Verity's compliment, the young Gryffindor gave a small, awkward laugh, the tips of his ears reddening slightly. Long fascinated by the beauty of fashion, his mother had kindly made this pretty ball outfit for him. Even though she knew he would grow again because of his part-giant nature, perhaps it was a way to make him feel a little normal among the others. When the older Hufflepuff begins to answer her classmate's question, he regains his composure, and leans forward slightly, intrigued.

"Whoah."

Impressed by Lyanna's eloquence, the boy was stunned, his mouth slightly open and his pale, pinky eyes, shining with admiration. He had always respected people of his own age, especially girls, due to his family nature. But having an elder in front of him, speaking so confidently, and calmly about such a fascinating subject, left him completely speechless, no thoughts behind this head of his.

"It's incredible. The way you speak, and explain things, it's wonderful ! How did you learn that ?!"

Landsey's smile quickly returned to his face, illuminating it, as he continued to listen attentively to Lyanna's words, as well as Verity's, the conversation flowing peacefully from one topic to another, occupying his energetic mind. Having known them for barely an hour, he already likes the two young women, and their personality.

Landsey listens attentively to Lyanna, and admires her eloquence !

While they walked, Maisie was too caught up, and didn't realize she'd left Ally behind. It was very unlike her, and she berated herself when Ally had finally caught up. "It's fine, Ally. But of my fault, too. Should've made sure everyone was together." She took the girl by the hand, and led her to the other two, a little bit ahead.

- • 。⋆𓇼˚ 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 ˚ 𓇼⋆ 。 •-

She had been too eager to sit and eat to not have taken a look at the decorations. Now, seated on a surprisingly comfortable seat with lovely friends, she studied the decorations. It was like the way to the ship, and how one would imagine a shipwreck: splintered wood, chests, more wood, pearls spilling out of various holders, and paintings of a giant octopus-like creature.

The names of the delicacies on her menu were not unfamiliar to her. Rich and gourmet food were often placed before her back home. Not that she was always particular about food. Instead, she sat quietly and let the others decide. Chiming in only for the addition of pumpkin juice.

She laughed along at Fred's words and Marcus's Italian as the food arrived and they started to dig in. She saw the smallest hint of pride in Marcus's eye as he said the foreign words. Maisie was savouring the goodness and contemplating the night when she was jerked out of her trance by a loud clang. Startled, she looked for the source of the noise, but it was only Fred, dropping his fork. "Card?-" Then it hit her. She had been too caught up with anything to have forgotten pocketing the card at the entrance from the old creepy sailor. She fished in her pocket and pulled it out. She understood Fred's next words, as it was all happening on her's: vanishing words. "That is strange indeed." She exclaimed.

She held the card by a thumb and forefinger and raised it to the shimmering lights. Perhaps it would be better seen. Maybe it was a trick of the light. "Captain Bartholomew Vane? That was the name of the old sailor?" Maybe it was because of the long name, as she read on more frantically. "...of the tides meet their doom, and now my proud.......she shows. Words often conceal others. Fair wind!" She read out loud, for the others to hear. "What is it, some kind of riddle?"
