The Lost Pearl
Kafelé was awestruck as his friend turned to face him a smile across her face. He had thought she was pretty when they first met, still did. But tonight, it felt like an insult to just tell her she was pretty. Her eyes seemed to glimmer in the candlelight like to gemstones. Her dress made her look like a mermaid out of a muggle fairytale and her curls of red hair that hung down in the front entranced him. He couldn't believe he was looking at his friend Aisling.
He was so lost in the dramatic change that he almost missed her complimenting his Jalabiya. She also mentioned his hair again just like in the common room when they first met. She also told him it looked nice just like back then. His entire face turned flush at the compliment.
"Thank..you, i like yours too... the curls are rather nice." He said with a smile nervously. "It has been a bit since we've seen eachother though. Ive been doing well, ive been mostly in my studies. How have you been...." He had been rambling but stopped short when he noticed her smile. He hadnt thought he would really see anyone that was in his friend group here. He was happy that Aisling was here and thought she looked great. Although he began to feel silly now that he realized he had come to the ball alone. She had to be here with that guy right, a pretty girl like her. No way she showed up alone, right? "Hey Aisling, I'm not keeping you from your date am I?" He asks pointing to the boy she had been speaking too before he arrived. His pulse raced at the question he couldnt understand why the answer seemed so important. He wasnt sure if he was curious or just jealous of the other boy. He had never been jealous in this sense of the

Aisling's smile widened at Kafelé's compliment. "Thank you," she said, "and yeah, I've been buried in classwork too. Mainly Potions." She paused for a moment. "I ... I know I'm gonna struggle when we start actually brewing," she admitted, "so I'm trying to make up for it by studying the best I can." She frowned slightly. "I ... I know that some of the ingredients for the potions don't hurt the animals," she said, "but some of the other ones that do, like salamander blood." She shivered at the thought. "Makes me ill." Aisling shook her head. "Anyway, how have classes for you been?" she asked Kafelé, "any one that you really like so far?"
"Huh?" Aisling asked. It took her a second to realize what Kafelé said. "Oh," she said, "you mean Percival. He's a friend I met a few days back. Just so happened to meet him here." She chuckled. She blushed harder. "If anything," she admitted, "I ... I actually came here alone." She shrugged. "I didn't know if any of our friends, or if any of my friends from my classes were going to be here in all honesty. And I ... I wanted to see what it was all about." She rubbed her palm against the side of her neck. Aisling could feel butterflies in her stomach. Why am I feeling this way? she thought to herself. She mentally shook it off. Maybe she was just hungry. "I'm ... I'm really happy you're here, Kafelé," Aisling said.

Percival turned the moment he heard his name and blinked in surprise before a smile spread across his face. “Aisling!” he said, clearly happy to see her again. It felt like forever since they had talked, and seeing a familiar face here made everything a lot less nerve-wracking. She looked completely different from how she did when they first talked, too. This time, she wore a beautiful dress, which made her whole appearance fitting for tonight's theme. “Wow,” he said, scratching the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. “You look really nice.”
When she told him he looked dapper, though, he felt his cheeks grow warm and that same heat spread down to his neck. “Oh. Thanks,” he said, smiling through the blush that refused to fade. “My mum sent it. She’d have been disappointed if I didn’t wear it and went in my usual clothes.” It was true... he could already picture her face if he’d gone in his school robes or worse, in his baggy casual clothing.
Hearing the compliment made the awkwardness of wearing it a little more worth it.
Before he could say much more, another voice drew his attention away. Aisling’s expression brightened as she turned toward it, and Percival followed her gaze. Another boy who he hadn't seen before was approaching them, smiling at her. They started talking right away, and it didn’t take long for Percival to realize that maybe he should give them a moment. He glanced between them, then smiled. “I’ll let you catch up. We can talk more later, yeah?”
Maybe that was her date, or something.
Before he could step back too far, however, a hand landed on his shoulder. Percival blinked up at the older and much taller boy beside him. “Draven,” he said, trying not to sound startled as he was guided off to the side. Percival looked up to him ever since they had met in the duelling club, though being pulled away so suddenly had him stumbling for words. “Oh, uh… yeah, the outfit wasn’t my idea,” he admitted with a nervous laugh. “But I couldn’t really show up here without it, right?” Looking appropriate for an event like this was important, or so his mother had told him in her letter.
He glanced back toward the crowd and then at Draven again, “Do you have a date?” he asked, genuinely curious. “I think most other boys I've seen all have a date.” Wait, did that mean it was weird that he didn't have one?
He hadn't really thought about it until just now.

Karime had arrived at the Lost Pearl. She looks around and doesn't see Rusty yet. Karime still couldn't believe she actually had a date to the ball and so she decides to go up to a girl with beautiful blond hair and introduce herself. She vaguely remembers seeing Tavi in class (But doesn't know her name yet) so She goes up to the girl (Tavi) and introduces herself as Karime and as a first year.

Karime is talking with the girl a bit when Emily comes up to them. Karime found out that the blond haired girl's name is Tavi and that Emily must have seen her in class before. Karime nods her head when Tavi looks to her to acknowledge her with a slight nod. Karime smiles at Emily as Karime was fixing her earrings before Emily had arrived. She remembers Emily as they may have slightly chatted or at least acknowledged each other in passing as they are from the same house. Emily asks her and Tavi if they have dates and if we are eschewing the dancing part.
Karime didn't think kids her age used big words like that. She knew what the word meant but was surprised as many kids don’t know words like that. Karime kind of fidget a bit before answering,“I actually do have a date and am kind of nervous about the dancing. I met him a few weeks ago at the great lake and he asked me out just recently to be his date… His name is @Rusty Singer and he is a second year student in Slytherin”. Karime blushes softly and looks to Tavis who asks if Emily has a partner. Karime heard Tavi reply about not having a partner but also not avoiding the dancing part and wait for Emily's response back about having a partner or not.

"Oh my classes have been going well, im particularly fond of Herbology so far. I grew up around potions my father makes potions for a living. Potions are where my fascination in Herbology came from honestly." He answered happily and earnestly. The news that Aisling was here alone excited him for some reason. When she said she was happy he was there his entire face became as red as a rose. He felt like there were a group of butterflies flitting around his stomach. He looked at her and could't help but smile. He thought the way she rubbed her palm on her neck was cute.
"I... c..c.c.came alone to. I overheard some other st..st..students talk about a fun event h..ha..happening tonight." He was so nervous he was studdering. He was so scared and he wasn't sure what of. He had thought that coming out to a social event hatless would be his biggest hurtle tonight. What a suprise, that was nothing compared to the simple question he wanted to ask. Kafelé nervously mimicked the palm on the neck movement that Aisling had done. He looked at her his golden brown eyes fixed on hers. "Want to check it out t...t..t.together? Ma...ma..maybe?" He asked her softly and shakily. He was so nervous he thought he could keel over right there. He couldn't believe he had just asked a girl to a ball. He had never been to a ball he wasnt sure how to dance. But he was already here and the question was spoken.

In the evening
With @Verity Engels, and others of course ! Just owl me first !

Landsey had met some friends on his way here, but they already all had partners. He thought he'd spend his evening laughing and eating with them, but he is almost disappointed to see them all with girlfriends, or boyfriends. It was barely the beginning of the year, and they were already caught up in that complex feeling called love. He sighed, his pretty, bright pale pink eyes now highlighted by the light makeup, of the girls of his dorm, had done.
*What a bother. I'd manage to keep myself busy then, more food for me !*
Dressed in an ensemble of a soothing and welcoming color palette, he wears a white shirt with slightly puffed sleeves, and a purple bow. Cinched at the waist by a plum-colored corset embroidered with crocuses and laced with a long ribbon falling down the back, it gives him an elegant waist, and highlights his broad chest in a refined way. Accompanied by ankle-length pants in complementary purple hues, his tall stature is striking, and his trench coat, accessorized with rhinestones, silver jewelry and ribbons falling from the ends of the sleeves, rests lightly on his wide shoulders, giving him calm yet imposing air. His part-giant nature makes his size even more obvious, forcing him to lower his head when passing the entrance to the desk, to avoid bumping into the top of the door-frame.
"Love your outfit man !"
He chuckles softly as he compliments the pirate at the entrance before continuing on his way to the ballroom. His long red and white hair are pinned back with an amethyst crocus-shaped clip, a few pearls dangling from it, and reflects the room's bluish light. He heads straight for the banquet, his purple shoes echoing on the wood of the boat. After swallowing a few cupcakes, Landsey marvels at the beauty of the space.
*It's cool that they did that on a boat, I love it.*
Amused, a wide smile spreads across his lips, revealing his sharp teeth, slightly protruding from his mouth. Then, his gaze falls on a beautiful young woman, alone at a table. Her dress reminds him of a pretty waterfall, but pink, and adorned with butterflies. He approaches the girl and gives her a sweet smile as he hands her a little cake, his deep voice becoming even more respectful than at the entrance with the sailor.
"Hello there, are you alone ? You must be bored. Do you mind if I keep you company ?"
Landsey entered, and ask nicely to sit at a table !

Aisling smiled when Kafelé asked her. She hadn't been invited to an event before by anyone. Even if he was already there, it still meant a lot that he asked her to spend more of the dance with him. "I'd love to!" she said. Not even thinking, she softly held onto Kafelé's hand and led him closer into the ball. Back in Limerick, she wouldn't have ever done this. Then again, she wouldn't have even dreamed of coming to a social event like this, considering how many people there would be. While the event wasn't as crowded as she had worried, something told Aisling that she was comfortable here. She could be authentically her.
Aisling smiled. "That's grand that you already have a class you like," she said, not realizing her hand was still holding his, "and it makes sense that it's Herbology. It suits you. You're a tender and kind person like that. I bet the plants adore you." She heard that his father brewed potions for a living. "That's wonderful he can do that," she said. She sighed. "I ... I wish I could see myself doing potions. It's fascinating, but ... but the idea that some of the ingredients for them use animal parts." Aisling shivered. "I ... I'll be honest, I barely have the heart to do it for class. I know our professor said that the unicorn horns are collected when they shed them, but the fact that other creatures might be hurt for potions." She shook her head. "I can't even imagine. I know it's not your dad's fault. I reckon he's just doing his work and I'm sure he's a lovely man who wants to help others. I just ... I personally couldn't do it, you know?" She really hoped he knew what she meant.
"If we could take Care of Magical Creatures in our first year," Aisling said, "I'd be all over that class. But since we don't, I do like Herbology. I really like what Valerian and Lovage can do to help someone and I'm excited to learn more about the other plants. But right now, something about my Defense Against the Dark Arts class gets my attention. Of course I don't want to have to hurt anyone or anything unless I'm getting attacked. I just like learning about that kind of stuff, especially since this is all so new to me." Absentmindedly, her thumb gently ran over Kafelé's knuckles. "This time last year," she said, her voice hushed slightly, "I didn't even know that I could do magic."
Aisling paused for a second. This had to be the longest she's talked. She worried Kafelé barely got a word in. Her free hand's palm rubbed against her neck again. "If ... if I'm talking too much, I'm really sorry. I just ... I like talking to you. I hope I'm still letting you talk."

Aisling smile seemed to make him feel more at ease."I'd love to!" She said yes, he couldn't believe it. He hadn't expected anything out of coming to the ball. He figured maybe he would eat some nice food and see some really nice outfits. He never imagined he would actually enter with someone. Before he could contemplate further his hand was in hers. Her grip was soft and easily broken but he wanted to follow her. She gently guided him further, opening up along the way. He didn't realize this shy girl from his house had so much more to her than timidness. She genuinly cares for creatures and seems to have an affinity for nature. Her disapproval of some potion ingredients resonated with Kafelé. He didn't approve of harming anything plants, animals, people it didnt matter. He was so happy to hear her call him a kind person.
She was also kind she mentioned her interests in Defence against the Dark arts, at the same time expressing a dislike for harming others. Her thumb ran across his knuckles as she spoke of the subject. For some reason though he didnt feel anxious at her touch anymore. He was anxious when she first took his hand but, after listening to her open up about herself so much. He couldn't help but feel a certain comfort in her presence. She suddenly cut herself off, she seemed worried she wasn't allowing him a chance to speak. It was true he had not said hardly anything at this point. He didn't mind though, he had become curious about Aisling. But he was grateful to have a chance to tell her about himself as well. He felt a level of safety with her that made him feel like he could open up to her. He smiled when she put her free hand to her neck like before. He found it to be a cute habit. "I hope I'm still letting you talk." as she said this he smiled gripping her hand with his gently. "Not at all, I enjoyed hearing about the real Aisling. You are a kind witch who wishes no harm. I feel much the same way i have so little ill will in me that i cant even cast a proper curse. I mean i can cast the spell just fine but if it causes harm its potency is almost nothing. I love plants and animals, I also wanted to take Care for Magical Creatures. I honestly can't wait for our third years when we get to study those magnificent creatures. Potions are a small hobby of mine but im mainly interested in what the ingredients themselves do. Is it not facinating to see what all these plants can do. I used to sneak magical plants out of my fathers potion stores. I would try eating them after i checked my books to see if they were safe. I even tried planting some of the seeds." Kafelé had never been this open with anyone. He also worried he may have been bombarding her with too much information. " Pardon me, i may have gotten carried away. Anyway i do love herbology but im equally interested in Care for Magical Creatures. I do have to say though transfiguration is growing on me. I find the physics aspect very curious." He continued on but only briefly before saying. "Thank you, for saying yes to joining me for this. Im happy im here with you."
