Unlike Godric Gryffindor, Alphonse didn’t quite parallel in the ‘might’ department.
Fortitude was one thing the Castelobruxo-expulsé had in abundance, and yet was not enough to bring the anvil from stone. A grimace of defeat flickered across his features as the sweat and popcorn grease hindered his grip. Fuck—that’s what he got for eating carbs.
Flashing Genevieve an infectious grin to decoy his struggle, Alphonse finally managed to lift it, but not enough to unsheath it completely. Not enough to score enough tickets for the prize he had in mind. Before the Toussaint boy knew it, the anvil slipped from his hold and slammed back into the stone with an angry thud.
“Modi! Que besteira,” [Damn, this is bullshit] Alphonse hissed through gritted teeth, shaking the tension that pulsed in his hands, “Gotta be rigged.”
Muttering a few more select curses in Kreyol under his breath, Alphonse rigorously rubbed his palms on his jeans and prepared for another attempt. Hopefully a second try would bode the boy well. His strength had been tested and his pride wounded — Alphonse couldn’t leave now with so much on the line.
“Alright, one more go. Then we’ll get ice cream or something.”
And, if the gods would permit, a smoke break with Siobhan.
