Interschool vs Mahoutokoro

Alemayehu managed to take off the blindfold. He tried to move forward and orient himself in the race again. Some heavy fog, which was difficult to pass especially after being blind already before. And then he felt a strong pain and the feeling of falling. Not something he really liked. He managed to get a glance at the quite big Mahoutokoro student that knocked him off his broom but ouch that hurt.

Abilities: Steady FlyerReducioHealing SageWhen facing an obstacle on a broom racing course that is of easy or moderate challenge rating, you have a 10% chance to automatically make it past without having to roll against the obstacle's DCs. If you go through multiple obstacles in one round, your chance to make it past stacks for that round. Example: If you go through an easy obstacle and a moderate obstacle in one round, you have 10% chance to make it past the first obstacle, and a 20% chance to make it past the second obstacle. This stacking chance resets to 10% when the ability is successful and between rounds. This roll is performed before any other rolls that might impact success against an obstacle (eg Evasive Maneuvers). Taking this ability twice will allow this effect to happen with hard and near-impossible challenge rating obstacles too.ReducioBroom: Silver Arrow (+3 to all stats, top Speed 5)+30% healing done with potions and spells by this user. This ability can be taken twice for a total of +60% healing. When a player with this ability casts Ferula, the subject of the spell (whether self or ally) has bleed immunity for the duration of the race.

ReducioAs soon as Alemayehu was able to walk, his dad placed him on a small broom to practice. He was not a natural flyer, it took him a few weeks or even months to be able to keep his balance on the little broom but when he got the hang of it, he didn't even want to dismount and was always sad when they arrived and he had to get off his broom. In the first years on his toy broom, he would only fly with a string attached and mostly above the flying carpet they were using for their tents. He would also only fly shorter distances and times. Then he got tired and mounted his parents broom. But as he grew older, he could fly longer and further. When he turned six years old, his father bought a new broom for himself and so Alemayehu got his father's broomstick. It was much faster and they would also do some races for fun at night, when no muggles were there to see them. His mother didn't really appreciate this but his father liked broom sports too much to not show his son.
When he entered Uagadou, he got a new broom: A Silver Arrow. Alemayehu was proud and happy and hoped to get on the school's broom racing team. His flying experience when entering Uagadou was already 10 years, making him a quite experienced and steady flyer. Always living on the move like nomads he had flown across all over the african continent in almost all weather conditions and knowing how to handle various obstacles. They mostly flew over the woods but sometimes it was safer to fly through them. They fly often on open space with winds blowing hard. They often fly at night or in dusk or dawn, often having fog along the way to make it even harder to see and navigate.
Additionally to their normal travel obstacles, his father taught him how to best maneuvre through narrow ways, how to navigate when you really see nothing or when the sun comes from the front and blinds you. He had put Alemayehu through various tests. Once he had flewn with a magically dense cloud of fog around him, only with his compass he could determine where to fly. He had needed to fly very slow because there could always be some obstacle before him. Another time, his father had caused the wind to blow from the front and Alemayehu had to stay on his broom and idealy even move forwards. They had created their own maze where Alemayehu had to fly through as fast as he could. They had a lot of fun but it had been also a lot of work.

Healing Sage
ReducioAlemayhu had learned healing skills from his mother. Even though she was not allowed to teach him spells just yet, she had made sure that he learned everything else. And so from three years on, she had taken him to collect magical herbs and ingredients needed in healing potions and ointments. They had collected flobberworms and he had helped her to get the mucus, a perfect thickener for ointments. They had collected the leaves of the abyssinian shrivelfig. She also showed her the non-magical healing plants and how to collect them, when to collect them, what to watch out for. He learned which plants were healthy, which were poisonous, which needed to be cut, which to be plucked. He then watched her to brew her potions.
When he turned six years old and already had started to learn how to read, his mother would make him read about all the plants not native to Africa, all the plants she could not show him. he would read about potions, herbology and healing magic.
He was also allowed to collect the plants himself and to help with preparing them for the potions: chopping, grinding, mixing them.
With eight years, she also took him to her patients where he learned what made them sick, mostly muggle diseases but also some magically induced ones. He learned about the ancient techniques of healing as well as the modern ones, even though the last were seldom possible with the means they got where they were.
Alemayehu learned a lot of things from his mother, from the books, and in the end had a vast theoretical knowledge. When he was ten years old, he often could identify the disease and what the people needed as a treatment, even though he lacked practical experience.
Only when arriving at Uagadou he had also gotten pracitcal experience. He learned the spells and with his background in how the human body worked, how plants made healing possible etc. he had learned all the healing spells in a breeze. Other spells had taken much more time to learn but healing seemed to be in his blood or at least in his muscle memory, induced by his mother. He was not sure whether it was genetics or pure hard work but he was happy to also have this ability to heal. It was not necessarily something he wanted to do for a living but he wanted to have his friends feel well and so being able to heal them was great.

Date : August 23rd, 2025 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Jason could only see one obstacle in his sight: snowfall. He had come all the way from the deepest Amazon that was freezing at this time of year, so this obstacle was more like nothing to him. Instead, his thought was about his team's situation. He saw Alemaheyu remove his blindfold, and as far as he knew, that was a critical situation. Sure enough, the Mahoutokoro racer succeeded to blatch him while he was so low in his awareness. It's still a long way to go, Jason sighed.

Maxi sighed as he shook his broom again and despondently found that it indeed refused to go forward. He thought for a moment before taking out his wand again, this time directing the tip of it towards @Claire Ducasse. She was quite impressive as a second year, surpassing all the older players and maintaining her lead. Being ascended, Maxi could catch a glimpse of the obstacles ahead, and some of them did seem tough, not to mention that opponent players would probably try to eliminate her before she crossed the finish line—oh gosh Alemayehu was blatched off his broom in the unit where Maxi was.
“You okay?” He leaned over and called out to @Alemayehu Ngeni Bekele. His fall sounded like it hurt. Then he was determined about his spell choice to aid Claire—the Leg-Locker Curse might be called a curse, but it could help her avoid being brutally knocked off her broom. “Best of luck.” He mumbled, as she didn’t dodge the spell. And it was good thing that Javier and Jason were catching up with them. Their team would make it, he just knew.

Hikari was rather relieved to find his broom rather quickly. The quicker I can get back into the game, the better it would be. He glanced at the girl who had also fallen off her own broom in time to see Maria flash him a thumbs-up as she swung over her recovered broom. Hikari returned the gesture with a brief nod, before mounting his own broom and taking off to rejoin the others.

ReducioWhen growing up with a younger brother who seemed to have trouble following him around everywhere, one often learnt to avoid potential catastrophes in the nick of time. A flower pot about to fall, a dirt mark on the floor that hadn't been there the previous day, Hayato stealing his food.
Besides Hikari had been an observer since he was a child. Less talking, more listening, looking, watching; all of these had been ingrained in him as the oldest son of the Fujimoto family.
And he noticed things.
And it was not in the "he has good instincts" kind of manner. No, he really noticed, and often, he found himself studying it all. His father's crooked tie after returning from work, the quill on the professor's desk, angled a few degrees off the remaining, a book which had been placed with the wrong series. He had an eye trained like a lens, sharp, precise and observing.
Then, of course, came his art.
Hikari saw the world in brushstrokes. People looked and moved on, but Hikari stayed, lingered, because in painting, everything was details. Six years of painting had trained him, sharpened him to look, to study, to remember. To paint well, one had to look closely. The soft colors, the hidden shadows, to spot the pink behind the clouds or the various shades of orange and red of the sun.
Now, it had become a habit.
His eyes were always moving, analyzing, every perfection, every imperfection, shapes, lines, colors, textures. The world was a canvas, full of flaws and beauty. And there was always something worth recording. Hidden details which were often overlooked by an untrained eye but Hikari never missed them: The slight asymmetry in a person's eyes or smile, fabric folds around knees, elbows or collars, different shades of shadows besides black and grey, purples, pinks, blues and even reds.
This little developed skill helped Hikari quite often. One of the best things about it was that he rarely misplaced his things. Even in the rare occasions where he did not feel like cleaning after himself, his room was more of an organised mess compared to his brother who could never find anything in his room when he needed to.
There was a kind of safety in that, he thought. The world was forever shifting, living. But as long as he kept watching, really watching, nothing could catch him by surprise.

ReducioClaire is rich and a Pure-Blooded girl. Rich, Pure-Blood ladies are nearly royal in the wizarding world. And being royal means you are skilled at many things. Claire was often reminded that as a young girl, by her parents. Her family believed all wizards were equal, but they still couldn't help being a little proud of their money and status. "I was skilled at charms when I was young. Mabie you will be too?" her mère sometimes mentioned. "Come on honey, put that tutoring to good use when you get in that school. Make us proud!" her père occasionally said. After hearing that a few times a year, per parent, nine-year-old Claire really wanted to make her parents proud in some skill of magic. She wanted to show that she was a good girl. And she'll admit she was a teensy bit jealous of all the attention the twins were getting. She'll also admit that she didn't really like young babies. Sure, now that her brothers are older she has an inseparable relationship with them, but that wasn't always the case. So, she decided that she would hide in the family library studying ancient books of magic from The Family Of Ducasse. The family was dying out so the books would probably be hers someday. What would she learn? Defense of the Dark Arts? Too scary for a young child. Potions? No way a kid could learn it all from a book! Then, she realized that it was settled. Charms. Claire's mother was really good at it. The books were fairly easy to understand. When she was ready, she would just ask her parents to cast some spells and she would name them. Easy peasy! She sat in the library for most of the day for a couple months soaking in new knowledge and studying old knowledge. She didn't budge for outside time, games, or family chats. Only when her presence was required did she begrudgingly come. It sometimes got hard and boring, but Claire kept at it. She didn't let herself stop. Claire thought that she might have a talent for them just like her mother. Finally it was the big day. "Mère, Père do some charm spells. I can name them. Please?" said the nine-year-old girl. Her parents were amused, so they did, to humor her. They got more and more surprised as Claire named about fifty charms right ( and sometimes a little history behind the spell, or why the light was a certain color, ) after another with no rhyme or reason to what was cast or who cast it. After the last charm was fired her mother was in happy tears and her father was grinning like he had never seen his daughter that way before. Claire still happily carries that wonderful memory and that important knowledge with her today, as she studies to be an official witch .

UNIT 4
Katsuro stays here.
In a surprising turn of events, Alyss glanced back to see that a member of each team seemed to have frozen in their tracks— both Katsuro and Javier simply neglected to act, both opting to pause mid-race. Perhaps they had simply been observing as Kiyoshi alley-ooped Chiaki. It was excellent form, and extremely well executed, with Chiaki flying incredibly quickly, much faster than just the broom could have flown without the boost. “And Kiyoshi alley-oops Chiaki, sending the upperclassman flying! But will it be enough?”UNIT 5
Javier stays here.

Ah, the fog. Throughout the race, it seemed to be a monumental pain for everyone, and it was no different this time around. Due to Maria’s speed coming into it, she struggled to fight the haze, with Hikari having similar struggles. “It appears there’s more trouble when it comes to the fog, with Maria and Hikari both coming out disoriented— these two have had a tough race.”UNIT 8 - HARD FOG - ACC DC 26

Jason acc: [d20 : 18] + 14 - 4(speed) = 28 —> success
Somehow, though, Jason had flown through as if it was a simple obstacle, something to laugh at. “Jason, however, pulls through and manages the fog seemingly with ease.”
UNIT 9
Ale is remounts here, Kiyoshi stays here.
Thorns could symbolize so much. Roses, flowers that contain such beauty, can still prick people with the sharp teeth protruding from its stem. They draw blood upon contact with skin, and can cause much pain in the scratches that are left behind. Despite the possible beauty of the flowers, Alyss had never liked roses for that reason: it came along with too much pain. That was why the difficult thorns that stood in the racers path was one of the harder obstacles to sit by and watch, with her eye twitching at the sight of the long scratches against the skin of the racers. “Hikari and Jason unfortunately cannot clear the thorns unscathed, with wounds that should surely be brought to a nurse. Thankfully Maria and Chiaki found a way to make it through that thick and painful experience, saving themselves some suffering.” Aly’s commented, nodding at Maria and Chiaki in respect and astonishment. That was an impressive feat.UNIT 11 - NEAR IMPOSSIBLE THORNS - ACC DC 23

UNIT 14 - MODERATE HUGH WINDS - STR DC 11
Chiaki str: [d20 : 6] + 10 = 16 —> success
Finally, Maximilien stopped flying. It was quite easy to keep track of him due to his condition of being so far above the track, however it did mean he didn’t have to bother against any of the environmental hazards that stood in the way of the other players. All he had done was fly. And just below him? Chiaki also hit the brakes, the two being the second farthest racers, with only one person in front…UNIT 15
Maximilien, Chiaki end here.
UNIT 18 - HARD TREES - ACC DC 22
Claire acc: [3d20 : 18, 7, 2] + 4 - 3(Leg Locker) - 3(Speed) = 16, 5, 0 —> fails all three, takes 3 x (4 x 10) = 120 damage.
Claire, the leader, was not the most experienced, and it showed. She bumped into the trees left and right, still bleeding from a run-in with the thorns earlier and very much disoriented from the fog. On top of that, she was still under the effects of the Leg Locker Curse, meaning she was not flying her best already. However, this wouldn’t end up mattering, as she continued to fly, no matter how beat up she appeared. The Whomping Willow didn’t bother attacking due to the speed Claire flew, and soon she’d crossed the finished line. WE HAVE OUR WINNERS!! Claire has crossed the finish line for the team made up of students from Beauxbâtons, Castelobruxo, and Uagadou. Congratulations, racers!”UNIT 19 - WHOMPING WILLOW
