A hot dog encompasses all the elements of a sandwich. It includes sausage, bread, and even sauce if desired, so the hot dog is considered an open-faced sandwich. If an open-topped sandwich goes into a sandwich, this should go in too.
The bread is also soft and melts in your mouth, just like sandwich bread. I won't even get into the fact that their breads have the same taste.
